Not to be *that person* but since its probably a small business I think you should know that at one point you say that the refill store 'did not fail to disappoint', which means it was disappointing...might be worth an annotation?

@@HollyGabrielle Holly, whenever I to to a supermarket, there are full of plastic bags. I bring my own bags to the grocery store which are not plastic. I stopped drinking out of water bottles fire years ago and use the plant-based milk made out of eco cartons. You are right, Holly. It is difficult to find items not made of plastic.

the no waste shop looks like bulk barn in canada. they are everywhere and you can just bring your own container and refill on anything you need. only thing is they also provide plastic bags for people who forget.

When I was younger we'd have the milkman come most mornings to deliver milk and collect our old glass bottles, and this got me thinking about how zero-waste that was so I looked up milk&more and good news! They offer oat milk with the same option of the reusable glass bottles - you should check it out!

I recently bought a bamboo sonic toothbrush and I'm quite happy with it, it's from a Dutch company called Bamboo'd Society. I don't know if that particular company ships to the UK, but maybe there is a similar company in the UK that produces these toothbrushes!

Makes me realise that the supermarkts here in Germany are actually not that bad when it comes to plastic. There is still a long way to go, obviously, but I´d say there are a lot more plastic-free options and unpackaged products then in the UK!

I’m a curly girl also! I use plaine products for shampoo and conditioner, they come in a metal bottle that you send back when you get your refill and they clean and reuse them, then for the styling products I just look for B corp certified because plastic free is pretty difficult

11:40 those are called "Kohlrabi" or "German turnip". They are popular mainly here in Germany. My grandma always used to make them so I do now as well. You just have to peel them, cut them up and then you can eat them raw or cooked (~15 mins till soft).

I wish there were more plastic-free alternatives in shops where I live. Right now I use soaps instead of bottled products, avoid buying any sort of drinks plastic bottles, and try to avoid buying food in plastic containers. It’s so difficult and I feel so guilty. It’s gotten to the point where I’m not eating enough nutrients because I don’t want to face up to buying items wrapped in plastic.
Also, no matter how much I do, seeing people continue to walk down the streets with plastic water bottles in hands discourages me so much. This world is not going to last. People don’t care enough.

    • @HollyGabrielle
      @HollyGabrielle  2 года назад +3

it's so difficult isn't it?! and i tooootally agree about seeing other people not care at all 😫 but i'm hoping that it's the small changes we all make and the information we share (for example in me making this video) that helps the planet 🌎✨

It is definitely always good to try something new and for everyone something else might be accessible. If you live in a city you have access to public transport , zero waste shops and bike lanes... But might struggle with finding compost options . If you live countryside you have access to a garden and compost , the local farmers shop , but the distances are long . Also everyone has different abilities some are more gifted in cooking, others more in DIY so everyone's contribution will /can look different and is still a contribution to the same cause. Also sometimes just doing nothing is a contribution ... I just stopped buying paper towels , never missed them *mind blowing*. For me a game changer was indeed to make my own plant milk that did save so much waste!!!

I dislike packaging that says "made out of X% of recycled plastic". Mixing recycled and completely new plastic, most of the time, can actually make the new bottle non-recyclable. This is the issue, more products need to come in aluminium/glass packaging or offer refillable options (in big cities for example). So much more can be done and there is so much greenwashing out there!
Make sure to do your own research of companies; look at their ethics, their production line, CO2 emissions, vegan/cruelty-free stance and fairtrade. You'd be surprised what you will find about your favourite brands! However, always remember that all the little efforts you and others make add up to a lot! Lots of people doing 'zero waste' imperfectly is better than one person doing it perfectly.
Have a great day everyone! :)

Great that Holly tried to go plastic free for the environment but yes it's difficult and can be more expensive. Unfortunately with prices increasing the cheapest option for a product will be bought by consumers and the cheapest option isn't the plastic free options. Plastic free needs to be cheaper to create the demand for plastic free products. Love 🥰 the video and love 💕 Holly.

that's actually a really good question! if you can, try and reuse them. and there are lots of creative ways to do this (i've shared an example of a blog post with ideas below)! the second best thing i think you can do is recycle them properly!

You may think the plastic in UK supermarkets is bad but trust me they’re doing a whole lot better than the US, I went to New York a couple months ago and literally EVERYTHING was in plastic boxes, salad leaves and even oranges like wtf?!! I also noticed their plastic bottles are made really thick compared to the ones we have over here. They also had no recycling bins anywhere except in Starbucks and every time you bought something in a store they’d give you a plastic bag even if you say you don’t need one, I bought one packet of sweets and they put it in a bag😑 sorry for the long ramble lol but the UK is actually much better with recycling and sustainability than it might seem ☺️❤️

The ugliest part is that, the waste from "Developed/ Rich countries" (UK, US etc) gets dumped in "Under developed/ developing/ Poorer countries". They pay the poor to keep their waste. So overall the rich countries get cleaner and the poor get dirtier. Influencers never stop going to super markets and coffee shops and they keep on buying crap, they don't care. Holly, I request you please promote reduce - reuse - recycle, and concepts like composting, buying from farmers market, not using chemical products that are dangerous to our soil etc.. Because you have the audience. Imagine if each of your follower stopped using at least 1 plastic crap, that will be 400k+ less plastic on earth.
