Are Climbing Jeans Any Good? | Climbing Daily Ep.1395
Boulder Denim are definitely my favorite. They look like normal jeans, have some sort of dwr finish, they're super stretchy, and both the men's and women's jeans have deep pockets and a no-gap waistband.
Did my own research on performance jeans and just ordered some of those. The black diamond would have been my next choice.
Love mine...about to order 2 more pairs so I don't have to wear any other pants...
Thanks for the love guys! We've been trying to reach out to EpicTV to review and possible sell since we have a ton of UK customers asking us for UK stockist. Currently we ship there from Canada which can be kind of costly.
I just buy my climbing jeans at H&M, $20 for a pair of stretchy slim fit jeans. Really stretchy and the slim fit model is not skinny and not to loose.
Old Navy had a stretch model called 360 stretch and they ran about $30. They were better than any of the climbing specific jeans I've ever tried, but they unfortunately discontinued them. The price on climbing jeans is prohibitive IMO. I can get Prana Stretch Zion's on sale for about half the price of a pair of jeans.
I am using the Soill climbing jeans and they are absolutely perfect for indoor climbing!! Love the show guys!!
What was your job before EpicTV? Teaching what?
I was trying to be an actor, so worked in school with disabled kids to supplement my income.
@@dailyclimbing Nice! Pity it didn't work out if that was what you wanted, but the EpicTV job must be pretty fun I'm sure!
It's sweatpants for me. Super comfy, don't get in the way, and not too expensive either.
“I look fairly smart for the camera....” 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I think the women's prana jeans have got the idea spot on. If I'm gonna wear climbing jeans outside of climbing, I want them to look like regular, stylish jeans. The other styles still look technical or come off as dad/mum jeans, which in that case I would only wear them for climbing which means I may as well just buy climbing trousers.
5:57 I have always pronounced Ocun as "O-Kun" and now I feel like my whole life has been a lie...
Desmond omg me tooooo!!!!!!
I've got interested :D but in other video person from Ocun pronunces it as "ocun" not "okun", but I'm also pronuncing it okun
I have a feeling nobody actually knows
in the gym its shorts or trackies for me, at the crag its shorts (weather dependant) or builders combat type trousers, I just find them to be wind resistant and fairly water proof and because their a baggy fit they tend not to restrict my movement
They're not exactly jeans but I love the UCraft terra pants. I have both the brown and the blue. The blue have somewhat of a jean look and tons of climber specific features.
I started wearing the prana wheeler and prana Bridger cause I found them on sale before I started climbing. They are so comfortable, and now that I do climb they are perfect. Plus they are named after mountains near the two places I’ve lived.
H&M tech stretch jeans. Absolutely perfect for climbing. And don’t look hideous like all these other ones.
i reckon the main reason people don't like climbing in jeans is cause they're not broken in enough.
wear a pair of normal denim long enough and they'll soften up. my only gripe is that jeans (when worn in humid/hot weather) tend to be sticky and hinder those high legs or drop knees, etc.
You guys should check out Boulder Denim! I've been living in mine nonstop since I got them a month ago.
Please do a Video for New climbing Gear comming out in 2019
I have the prAna axiom and It's an amazing pair of jeans. As a college student I am very active in the fall/winter/spring when I can wear jeans so I love that I can wear them everyday without fear of ripping them like I would other jeans. Yeah the price is steep at 90 usd, but I will not have to buy new jeans every 6 months so in a way they are a bit cheaper.
I don't know about climbing jeans (except la sportiva, they look like any other stretchable jeans from for example New Yorker), but I really don't like climbing trousers. They're loose, so sometimes you can't see footholds because of it, not very comfortable, not stretchy at all, sometimes not helpful when doing some quite gymnastics moves. For me sport leggins are much better. They're like second skin: well fitted (almost all leggins in your size probably will match you perfectly), sexy, stretchable and looks much much better. If it is too cold, I wear also tracksuit
I enjoy climbing v6-7 and 5.12+ in jeans I wear to school. They work great
I got mine from Primark for 10pounds. The simple regular fit jeans that stretch. The pair has 4 pockets and they re as cool as you can get.
I've always done that, only problem is that they only last for about a year or so
I think "you can wear them hiking to the rock" is more realistic and dank overall than saying you could wear the JEANS "at the office, straight to the gym". Just got my first pair! Super stretchy
I almost strictly climb in jeans. I've dodged a lot more wall rash in them than my partner has in shorts, and I like all of the above mentioned benefits as well. That said, I'm probably not willing to pay climbing shoe prices for jeans. The urban outfitters stretch jeans have worked really well for me though, for not even a quarter of the price.
1. Cotton kills.
2. 5:08 "less denim and more cotton"??? Denim is 100% cotton. Wikipedia: "Denim is a sturdy cotton warp-faced textile in which the weft passes under two or more warp threads."
3. For outdoor rock climbing give me military surplus or thrift store stuff that if it gets ripped up I can just throw it in the trash. For mountaineering (e.g. the Aiguille Vert), give me wool gabardine salopettes.
1. Its a fun saying and often true but its not really true universally. There are many conditions where cotton is a superb textile to choose.
2. Yeah I think he ment nylon
3. I'd rather buy 1 pair of climbing trousers that last years and feel great than 5 surplus pants in a year that feel like rubbish. But to be fair I didnt buy my pants I won them and justifying that purchase would be rough
I think the Prana jeans you reviewed are called the Creek Jean and not the Axiom.
I swear by American Eagle jeans while climbing indoors and outdoors. Really cheap yet as good as the expensive “climbing jeans”, probably even more flexible.
Prana Wheeler Jeans amazing, lighter and stretchier than Axiom but hard to get hold of now in UK 😢
Climbing jeans don't seem to come in 38 waist 38 leg (6ft 8 dude) so sadly i can't indulge, but ive been really enjoying a pair of cargo trousers for outdoor stuff, the extra pockets are great though they're not fantastic for super flexibile moves. When Sheffield isn't too miserable the humble shorts are king!
Can you do one about best climbing shorts?
Very late comment, and I know you looked at it with Adam Ondra’s gear, but please look at the BD ATC Pilot, like a video checking it out
Lots of "normal" jeans now are also stretchy, I've been wearing mine from Uniqlo as my everyday go to, even though I don't wear them for climbing.
Mine had tear themselves apart after a shortwhile :(
Boulder Denim jeans. These things are amazing.
Love my Prana Brion: Look great for the office, work great for the crag/gym. Great for those of us with thunder thighs.
I like climbing pants that dont look as loud but still have the techy features
No BoulderDenim? A company specifically designing climbing jeans that look just as good outside of the gym. Maybe it’s your sponsors and you have to support them but I would have thought you’d support a smaller brand doing just this and doing it really well.
The gear show is essentially an advert for the epic TV shop, think about it like QVC. They're only going to review and recommend things that they sell because that's the whole point.
ATM considering the Forged denim myself, and would've helped if you did a photoshoot with them like with the other jeans, to get a more clear idea of how they look on you. As is, we see you using them but not a clear view of the jean itself.
Yeah you really should have mentioned boulder denim which are by far the best available. EpicTV should look at being the European supplier.
a friend in Font got a pair last year and they wore out quickly enough. They are not worth the $$$ based on that observation, however he may have got a bad pair. They also took over 6 months to deliver them to him after taking his money, then going quiet for a month or so before finally sorting it out. Still, €140 can't be justified on the production/cost level. They were a good cut though!
Why don't you guys also review the Decathlon climbing jeans? They have 2 different types and they're both really good climbing jeans on the cheap.
The la sportiva squat and smile😂😂😂
Is there a gag real for this video? Must have been a laugh filming!!
I just change into shorts.....Like a cheap, sane person.
I started out like that, but it got me some real banged-up knees and shins.
Have fun with them torn up legs
@@pr3historic647 I like banged up legs, girls ask me how i got banged up and BOOM i've snared them into a conversation!
Gareth Jones oh wow that’s one of the saddest things I’ve read today. I was once at the bouldering indoor gym n some guy turned to a newbie n said ‘it’s a great chat up line girls love it’. Arnt you just climbing for fun cos it’s fun?
@@ellefifificii48 Yeah it's fun, so is chatting to nice girls. Some people have this rare ability to combine different types of fun to get the most out of any situation. Should i ignore girls when they ask me a question? " I'm sorry Miss the internet told me this is climbing only time!"
I love climbing but it doesn't mean i can't socialize while there, i usually spend 3-4 hours there, should i spend it all in quiet contemplation of beta?
oh god! those la sportiva womens ones are so unflattering!!
Im sure they work but they're just so expensive
Yes.... :'(
Nice video 👌🏼!
What’s the brand called, that you wearing at around 2:45min?
They look super nice!!!
✌🏼
Looks like the black diamond forged denim
Intern interviewer: what special talents do you have to bring in more viewers.
Intern: puts feet as far away from each other as they can go.
Interviewer: your hired.
In jeans I feel like my body doesn’t breathe. And it feels like they restrict my movement.
Prana Bridger jeans all the way baby
Primark jeans for me.. almost like leggings, they are super stretchy and cost less than £5
Another good option are basket ball shorts, they are soo light and stretchy... You Look like a beginner but it's okay
You doing a video for the new click up +
Why not shorts
Aren’t the jeans you are showing way too long/large? They go down to the ground and all over your heels.
Moon pants ;)
Matt the male model !
Unusable pockets on women’s jeans?! Shocking!!
I climb in dickies and levis. no complaints!
The Problem with all these pants are the cost!! Way overpriced for what you get. Yes they are sport specific and that will always cause a markup, but come on. What is the manufacturing cost!!!
Sure, that's why I wear clothes... Apparently, it's considered 'rude' not to wear any in public.
Did you have a look at boulderdenim.com/ read about them but didnot try them out yet...
Every pair of women's climbing jeans I've seen are rubbish. These ones included skinny fit or ribbon waist tie. Ugghh really???
All this makes me want to do is spend money 😂
2 words boulder denim
You neglected to mention, in my opinion, the best jeans out there. So ill denim. I rock the jeans and jean shorts. Most stretch I’ve ever seen!
De Ja Vu...
What I see is that people who wear jeans in my gym do it just for "style",wich is a little pathetic
Pros: very durable fabric .
Cons: durability not very good
Lol wtf you contradicted yourself so much
La Sportiva make some uuuugly clothes.
so thaaaaaaats what it takes to become a Epic Intern 0_o *slow clap commences*
"Climbing Jean's shouldnt work... " no.. Jeans dont work.. climbing Jeans do...
The second pair of girl pants, ugly. Just stating the obvious. But I agree please manufacturers better pockets, for women!!! I am tired of having to carry all of my wife's things in my pockets. Ha ha
This is more of an ad than an gear info video.
"I need to look smart for the camera."
Yeah, okay.
