This happens a lot. People try a unknown food for the 1st time but wasn't properly made or cook. Then you write off that same dish for the rest of your life. Later on try the same dish but by a better cook and you realize that the 1st dish you ate was the REAL problem. Then you think "Man! this is good, I could have eaten this a long time ago multiple times if that cook wouldn't have given it a bad 1st impression." It gives you the I missed out feeling.

Happened to me with eel. Made me swear off eel for like a decade until a friend's told me to try it once more because it probably wasn't cooked properly. Now, eel is one of my favorite meats. Hated raw tomatoes as a kid and I hate it now so that part is the same. Same goes for celery as the smell of them makes me gag.

@The angel born in hell..Gogeta I think it’s because British people have gotten used to food with no seasoning for generations so their taste buds are generally more sensitive. What you might consider bland a British person would find flavourful. I’m actually British and I don’t like food with lots of seasoning. It just feels like there’s too much going on. My favourite food is bread. I love just sitting there, eating it slowly as I absorb all the flavour. It’s so good. It’s not that I like bland food, far from it. I just don’t find that food bland. I appreciate the natural flavourings. Some things are good with lots of seasoning but I find myself preferring things lightly seasoned otherwise it’s usually overwhelming.

I'm not saying this because yall are Asian but growing up in Texas I used to hate Chinese food. I couldn't stand it, but while in high-school I had a friend that was Vietnamese and he used to take me to a bunch of different Asian food places. This particular restaurant called Hunan Gardens has some of the best food I've ever eaten. I started getting orange chicken and when he told me I only get that every time we go I decided to switch it up and get mandarin shrimp. Basically the same dish but with shrimp instead of chicken. I still go there to this very day and get the mandarin shrimp. I loved that place so much when I first started dating my wife I asked her if she likes Chinese food and she said no. I laughed and told her to get ready because we're going to a Chinese restaurant. Long story short we go 3 or 4 times a month and split the mandarin shrimp. So good.

The way most ribs are made at restaurants is they smoke them for 6-12 hours as they should but then they wrap them in foil and toss them in the fridge and warm them up when ordered. Getting something right off the smoker is night and day. That's probably what you experienced. And this goes double for brisket. Brisket rewarmed is quite unremarkable. That same brisket right off the smoker is amazing.

My girlfriend is Cambodian but she's been Americanized since adoption at 9 months, so she's had BBQ before. She doesn’t (and can't for stomach reasons) handle spicy foods much but she loves steak, chicken and Asian food the best..but not so much BBQ, though she tells me she grew up eating that too. I've found there's even good food in foods I didnt think I liked before, like German food. So we were out the other night and I was soo in the mood for BBQ and she didn't really want that. We went to one place in Hemet CA. and all they had left was a brisket sandwich. We should have stayed there but the place was closing and I wanted more..the whole BBQ package! We finally ended up eating at Polly's Pies in Moreno Valley and I forget what she had but I had some bland ass chicken. I mean it was ok but I felt like we were eating at a generic Marie Callender's or Coco's and there was a BBQ restaurant 20 yards away that I couldn't get my off of the whole time we were eating. Neither of us were crazy about dinner that night and I told her that next time..I'm picking the place!

When me and my boyfriend got together he told me he didn't like kielbasa so I made it my late mom's way and he ate more than I did and asked it I can make it at least once a month lol
Slice 2 polish kielbasas into medallions and sear them in a skillet on medium then add a bottle of sweet baby Ray's honey barbecue sauce and add 2 tablespoons of grape jelly and let it simmer until it thickens you can either stop there like my mom or season it like I do with dried thyme, oregano and basil and serve it on top of either mashed potatoes or white rice it's so good l.
My mom always loved sharing her recipes with people so if you make this thank you because i know my mom would love to have people try her cooking even though she is in heaven now

This is true with many dishes, I’ve had people tell me they don’t like… until they taste the way it’s supposed to be, I was told, ohh no, I don’t eat beans, but after trying my black bean salsa, I was told to throw away the ketchup, mayonnaise and mustard in their refrigerator and please keep supplying the black bean salsa 😊😊😊hint, I wasn’t raised with a smoker for BBQ, I was raised with a Smoke house for BBQ

My wife is a Filipina and at the start of our marriage I wasn’t particularly fond of most of the Recipes she cooked. They either lacked texture or had bitter and sour flavors that the misses really liked that were unusual to me and were by no means bad but just didn’t appeal to me. Then there were some cultural hurdles with eating rice with almost every meal.
Then on a trip to the Philippines to visit her family her brother was also home.
Now he liked to cook and he turned me on to how good Filipino food can be. His Duck Adobo is to die for and his papaya salad is excellent.
His Lechon doesn’t take a back seat to American style BBQ either.

I had that feeling about 🍣. I was in the Navy and traveled all over trying all the local food in our port calls. I liked about 90% and loving loads. Thai, Chinese, Japanese, middle east, India etc. We ate where the host nation folks ate. Stuff you'd likely never see on a menu in the US. Well I tried 🍣 a few times. I never liked it. Ost of my friends saying you've just never tried really good 🍣. I guess they thought 🍣 places in Japan I tried were not good enough. So I went to a very fancy wedding in a very fancy hotel in Hawaii. I was told they had a famous 🍣 chef and had the most fresh off the boat offerings. Fatty tuna, sea urchin, all the best. I told myself this would be t, I'll surely fall in love after this..I'll be a changed man. I selected 3 the pieces of 🍣 and nagiri that my friend suggested. Sat down with my freshly prepared. First bite. Nope. Second piece. Nahhhh, finally the third. The best fatty tuna on the island...........I was surprised, it hit me, I'm just not a 🍣 guy. Gave it a shot,.it's just not for me. I wish it were but I'll stick to other parts of the menu.

I used to hate Pizza when I was a Child, My Mom took Me to Pizza Hut to try out Pizza for the first time, didn't go well cause I picked some toppings that I would usually eat like breakfast in the morning, and ended up only eating a quarter of a slice
When I take a second try months after, but with the recommended toppings
    I absolutely loved it.

In Australia, what they yave done to American bbq here is a joke . They charge $20 minimum per 100 grams of meat. A little side dish is $ 20 each . Its served as dainty little finger food , you can go to an all you can eat japanese wagyu feast for less than a little bit of hipster " american bbq" finger food

I totally agree with this most times I find a food I hate its not a really a bad food its just prepared poorly as an example when I was growing up I thought I hated "tartar" sauce it was the nastiest thing in the world later in life I tried tartar sauce from a fast food place. Turns out tartar sauce taste really good and its not normal for "tartar sauce" to contain 50% horseradish paste.

The Southern States version of Barbecue is mostly Pulled Pork aka Pig Meat. The Central States like Texas up to Missouri version of barbecue is mostly known for Beef or Brisket aka Meat from the Cow. But at the end of the day, barbecue is just meat slowly cooked over low heat and smoke for a long period of time. Barbecue is good!

Yep, this one gets it! You know how a lot of parents struggle to get their kids to eat vegetables? Also how those kids grow up still having aversions to those vegetables? In my experience, it's always because the parents didn't know how to cook the vegetables right. Steamed broccoli is one of my favorite sides, but I hated it growing up. It was always given to me overcooked to almost mush and unseasoned. Lightly steamed, a little salt and butter. Perfection.
