Thank you very much, I appreciate your kind comments! I try my best to make life easy for fellow travellers by taking all the guesswork away from visiting a place you've never been before. My videos will tell you how much things cost, where to find them and how to get around - so that you can spend your time enjoying life rather than worrying about logistics. I'm glad that this helps you!
My family has been going to Skye every year between 2 and 6 times a year since 1971. I've been just about every year of my life as well. It's an absolutely beautiful place, but going there can be a bit sad for me as most of the people with whom my family were close friends on the island and who I met/stayed with as a young child have sadly passed. When I was young, we would always go to a specific restaurant where almost everyone in there would know my Grandad from his decades of visiting. The lady who made the food used to make mussels, which weren't on the menu, for my Grandad every time we came to visit. Now when we go in there, we're surrounded by tourists, and no different from anyone else. Everyone we used to eat and drink and laugh with has either passed away or moved elsewhere. Going to Skye is now an odd experience for me
I'm sorry to hear that. I know what it's like when a place full of memories changes ... and it doesn't feel like the same place anymore. My advice to you is hang on to those happy memories - because nobody can take that away from you.

This was apparently the largest mountain range on the planet during Pangea. After many eons it has eroded of course but supposedly the Highlands made the Rockies look flat, they were supposed to be monumentally massive.
@@UltimateBucketList There are a few places on the planet that I have been to that you can still, somewhat, see the outline of what once was. Isle of Skye is one of them. For example when you are standing on the edge of the cliff and looking out over the ocean. To me that area you were standing on was once an ancient mountain peak where the waterfall flowed downward into more lower ground mountain terrain. Isle is Skye is really weird in a geological sense in that it is so close to the north pole and yet remains so green which happens, quite literally, nowhere else on that long/lat line. No idea why it happens there, it's a mystery.
@@mspionage1743 Interesting points! I never considered the geological aspects of the island. But if you haven't been there, I highly recommend that you see it for yourself ... it's beautiful!

Great video thanks for sharing. I was just there in February and there is a sign saying no drones now. Glad you got some drone footage before they closed it off!
That's not surprising - people are unnecessarily scared of drones. I got a bit of footage, but it was terrible weather and I would have liked to go back on a nicer day to get more. Thanks for your kind comments on this video. :)
@@UltimateBucketList You bet! And yes, drones aren't that scary haha. The weather, as you say, changes rapidly. However the upside was that we saw 7 rainbows on our day tour there. Best wishes to you!
Geary's a crofting township rather than a fishing village but all crofters had small, clinker built boats and got some of their food from the sea. These boats were their equivalent of private cars, In 1820 they walked or rowed to go anywhere and the coast is so indented that rowing was often quicker.
Ideally, staying in the town of Portree will give you the most options and it's like the centrepoint for everything you want to see and do. Whilst I can't recommend any specific hotels, there are plenty of guesthouses and places to stay in the town so you won't struggle to pick something nice.
Glencoe is very nice - it's a beautiful spot. But if you don't plan on walking out into the wilderness to find the waterfalls or climb the Glen, admittedly there's not that much to do. If it's a quick whistle-stop on the way to Skye, I recommend going to the visitor centre and take some of the views from there as well as get something to eat and drink. But other than that, Skye is much more interesting. Hope that helps?
There are remote parts of the island yes, but quite a lot of it is civilised with shops, restaurants, supermarkets etc. The one big advantage of Skye is that it's permanently attached the the mainland via a bridge, so you can leave any time. With the other Scottish islands, you need a ferry to get there ... and when the weather is bad (as it sometimes is) they sometimes stop the ferries, meaning you're stranded. But on Skye - this is not a problem.
@@UltimateBucketList honestly all the stuff in and around New York is a trip in itself. Maybe if you do a Midwest/northern south trip, there's those two plus the bourbon trail and Churchill Downs in Kentucky, the Ohio State Reformatory where Shawshank Redemption was filmed, the Airforce museum in Dayton, Blue Ridge Parkway/Tail of the Dragon/Smoky Mountains in general and Gatlinburg in Tennessee/North Carolina, there's a lot to look at.
Got some of my footage mixed up in this video ... I used a folder called 'Scotland', unaware that it has footage from my trip across the north east, the whisky trail etc.
Although I quite liked your video and commentary, there are a couple of mistakes. The Fairy Pools are a series if small waterfalls in a little river running down from the Cuillin Hills, you will not find any seals. The sea stacks at 4.50 are on the north coast of the mainland. Also, the Q in Quiraing is pronounced as a K. Thanks for the memories though.
Loving your travel videos! Planning a trip to Europe/UK and I've added this to our bucket list! Is it possible to explore the Isle of Sky in one day ? Also, where is the best place to hire a car from around Glasgow/Edinburgh ?
Thanks, I'm glad you like my videos. You could drive around Skye in a day, but you won't be stopping to see anything. The best thing to do is set aside two days (or possibly more) for this place, especially if the weather is good. Plenty of car hire places from Glasgow/Edinburgh, they're all pretty much the same. If you're coming from the airport, their car hire places are just as good as any you'll find in the city.
Thanks! yeah, got some of my footage mixed up in this video ... I used a folder called 'Scotland', unaware that it has footage from my trip across the north east, the whisky trail etc.
I got my footage mixed up in a folder called 'Scotland' which contains all the footage from my trips to the NE, the Whisy Trail, Islay etc. Used the wrong footage.
The scenery is nice, for sure. But in terms of actual things to do, it's a bit lacking. You're basically hoping for good weather - because otherwise the trip is a bit of a wash.
I'd say three days is enough to see and do all the attractions on the Isle of Skye. The weather starts to turn bad in October, so please bring clothing for all weather conditions.
Thanks Micky. It's a tough one, because the roads are so narrow. There are things like buses etc. but you'd really have to learn the transport system there to get by via public transport. Besides, it's way more fun to hire a car and drive yourself through the mountains.
The MacKinnon's were the only sizeable clan on Skye that did not descend from Norse settlers but from the earlier Scots/Picts. They lived just south of the Cuillins, jaggy mountains that split the island into two communities. Skye is just big enough that from 30000 feet in a trans-Atlantic jet you can see just half of it at a time. The place names south of the Cuillins are mostly Gaelic, to the north of them they're mostly Norse origin. There was some fascinating archeological digging done near Torrin in the heart of the MacKinnon territory at "High Pasture Cave" that shows there was a widely known religious centre there for well over a thousand years before Christianity came.
I plan on going to the Isle of Sky at the end of July. I am a photographer and am looking to get it all. How long should I go for and what places do you suggest I stay when in the Isle of Sky?
Hi! Thanks for stopping by. - I managed to drone and photograph most of the island in about three days, but spending another couple of days there wouldn’t hurt. - As far as location is concerned, anywhere near the town of Portree is your best bet, as you can get to anywhere on the island from there (it’s almost like a centrepoint). It’s also the most civilised, so finding supplies, groceries, fuel etc. isn’t a problem. The main attractions (such as the Old Man of Storr, Kilt Rock Falls, the Quirang etc. are literally on the one road that goes north from the town. - But to be honest, anywhere along the main road that runs through the island (the A87) is fine. - Be warned - the weather changes in an instant up there, even in July - so bring cold and wet weather gear, even if it’s 100 degrees outside! Hope that helps?!
Lovely thanks; my son was there last week but it was misty until the last day. Railroad is Railway - is this where they filmed Harry Potter? It is a Via - duct to rhyme with higher and car *park. This is where they filmed the BFG.
It's quite a big island, and whilst you could drive around these places in single day, you won't be able to explore anything. My advice to you is to take your time and allow 2-3 days here in Skye, especially if the weather turns bad.
Nice video! I'm going there next month and found this very useful! Do you know if the new drone laws have any affect here or if you're free to fly your drone still?
Thanks. I believe Skye is still a droneable place, but just be careful - the weather is not your friend, so if you are doing it, do it quickly and watch the winds.

Thank you! 😊
what a great video
Glad you enjoyed it, thanks!
Been there last week! Extremely beautiful!
Thanks. And it really is!
Thinking of going to Scotland this November, visit my heritage. No, Isle of Skye isn't part of it, but it's on the bucket list.
Absolutely! I think it's worth it once in your life.
Thank you...it did
Great, hope you have a wonderful time there!
Been there, done that. I cruised the Scottish coast in my sailboat during a singlehanded circumnavigation. It is very beautiful.
Nice one!
Did you also drop out of Harvard perchance?
Great video! Question: We want to travel to Sky in August 2024 and looking for a place to stay. any idea? Regards Nieck jan Boschman
Ideally, staying in the town of Portree will give you the most options and it's like the centrepoint for everything you want to see and do. Whilst I can't recommend any specific hotels, there are plenty of guesthouses and places to stay in the town so you won't struggle to pick something nice.
No be a long chalk.,victor
beautiful nature s beauty
Indeed!
Bummer dude, Porter was great!
“Admittedly” a really good video 😉
Thanks.
Great video .. admittedly :)
Thanks :)
Thank you Ninh. I am going there next week. This really help a lot. . Do you have any suggestions for Glencoe. .? Thanks
Ultimate Bucket List Thank you 🙏 very much.
Amazing video :)
Thanks! :)
Looks like Norn Ireland
Yes, kind of.
I currently have the opportunity to work here and I’m so indecisive about the move. I’m terrified I’ll feel secluded
Rock and roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland
Edit if you do that there's also the NFL Hall of Fame in Canton about an hour away
I'd love to do both of those! Maybe next year when I take a swing at New York and all the cool cities around there?
@@UltimateBucketList honestly all the stuff in and around New York is a trip in itself. Maybe if you do a Midwest/northern south trip, there's those two plus the bourbon trail and Churchill Downs in Kentucky, the Ohio State Reformatory where Shawshank Redemption was filmed, the Airforce museum in Dayton, Blue Ridge Parkway/Tail of the Dragon/Smoky Mountains in general and Gatlinburg in Tennessee/North Carolina, there's a lot to look at.
There sure is!
Just got back. Can’t remember carrying on from uig to get to neist point and did not see the inland seals at the fairy pools :-)
Yes
Are you sure those are the Fairy Pools at 1:59?
...don't recall them looking like that with seals and all. haha
Got the footage mixed up. Sorry.
Hey thanks for sharing, I'm going next month so this was perfect :-)
Cool, thanks! Hope the weather holds out for you.
@@UltimateBucketList Yeah I've got my fingers crossed. I'm camping a few nights so hopefully it's reasonably warm too
Great video thanks
Glad you enjoyed it! Check out my channel for more like this :)
Good info. Thanks 👍🏻
Although was that not the duncansby stacks from John o groats at the end of your video?
Thanks! yeah, got some of my footage mixed up in this video ... I used a folder called 'Scotland', unaware that it has footage from my trip across the north east, the whisky trail etc.
I don't know how you managed to have footage of seals labeled as The Fairy Pools. They are famously about a third of the way up a mountain.
I got my footage mixed up in a folder called 'Scotland' which contains all the footage from my trips to the NE, the Whisy Trail, Islay etc. Used the wrong footage.
Looks amazing but your commentary seems to suggest there is not much to do there?
The scenery is nice, for sure. But in terms of actual things to do, it's a bit lacking.
You're basically hoping for good weather - because otherwise the trip is a bit of a wash.
@@UltimateBucketList agreed.
I live on the Isle of Skye am I love this video! :D one thing I do I have to say is uig I think is pronounced ooh-ig, amazing though :))
Yes, I got that wrong, and thanks!
Brilliant video! I love it!😍
Thanks!
good vlog i liked it 👍🏼1:50 => 😂
Thanks.
Oh......

Rules of (that game you just mentioned)
Yes.
Admittedly this video is not bad
Thanks!
Minimum how many days are reuqired to visit these attractions in October month
I'd say three days is enough to see and do all the attractions on the Isle of Skye.
The weather starts to turn bad in October, so please bring clothing for all weather conditions.
@@UltimateBucketList thanks for the reply. Would get appropriate gear
Some one that I like is born in there but she is Americans! 😀add to my list!
One more question are you chinese?🙂
Yes, I'm Chinese, but born in England.
Cool I am chinese too.
@@yl3386 Cool!
Liked this video of yours.. is there any other means of transportation on this island instead of car?. I am planning to visit here next year in March.
Thanks Micky. It's a tough one, because the roads are so narrow.
There are things like buses etc. but you'd really have to learn the transport system there to get by via public transport.
Besides, it's way more fun to hire a car and drive yourself through the mountains.
I’m from Mackinnon clan, I believe this is the land of our clan!
I think so?
This is MacLeod country.
@@Anaris10 Macleod had land here but so did the mackinnons. Look up a Scotland clan map
@@Anaris10 and macdonald nicol macqueen we don't mention the loud macleods
How long should I go for and what places do you suggest I stay
when in the Isle of Sky?
May i know which month you went?
I think it was in April or something?
my family were the Robinsons of Skye. can you do a film our clan?
Interesting history! Admittedly, historical content isn't my forte, but I'll consider it if I get enough demand.
Thanks :)
Cú Chulainn trained with a warrior woman named Scáthach on the Isle of Skye.
Apparently so, yes!
@@UltimateBucketList have you been to Scáthachs Castle
@@deaganachomarunacathasaigh4344 I don't believe so, no.
Lovely thanks; my son was there last week but it was misty until the last day. Railroad is Railway - is this where they filmed Harry Potter? It is a Via - duct to rhyme with higher and car *park. This is where they filmed the BFG.
Thanks. Yes, that's the Glenfinnan viaduct where they filmed a scene in Harry Potter.
@@UltimateBucketList many thanks
Wow
Indeed!
Is it possible to do all in 1 day?
It's quite a big island, and whilst you could drive around these places in single day, you won't be able to explore anything. My advice to you is to take your time and allow 2-3 days here in Skye, especially if the weather turns bad.
Nice video! I'm going there next month and found this very useful! Do you know if the new drone laws have any affect here or if you're free to fly your drone still?
Thanks. I believe Skye is still a droneable place, but just be careful - the weather is not your friend, so if you are doing it, do it quickly and watch the winds.
Also playable in forza horizon 4
Yes.
Dr. Holloway brought me here.
I've no idea who Dr Holloway is?
