This isn't a black woman or a white woman this is two women. I'm guessing celia didn't even see her as a maid. Two women who helped each other.

Historically though this was a black woman and a white woman. It was a very different time to be alive but I understand the spirit of what you're trying to say. Celia could have been blacklisted by the entire community if they had learned that she had her black servant eating at her table. But yes they are two lovely women

This moment really showed the audience that Celia isn't just a naive airhead. If she was she wouldn't be so perceptive to know Minnie was lying to her, and definitely wouldn't say something like "I'd give it right back to him." Kindness is often confused with stupidity, and I think Celia showed that beautifully.

Their friendship is the best relationship in the show in my opinion. If the whole movie was centered around them I would've been ok with it. I also love how Minnie gets maternal on Celia, telling her she doesn't need to be going to the benefit and to stay at home lol and also how they show that even though Celia may be bubbly and sometimes a bit distracted, she's not really dumb, as she correctly assumed that Minnie had been beaten by her husband.

Celia was raised poor so She was probably raised by her mama to defend herself again the advances and aggression of men. They show her butchering her own chicken so we know she knows how to get her hands dirty. It is the passive aggressive mind games of the wives she struggles with. While Minnie knows how to play the wives games but she was raised to be subservient and put up with mistreatment. They are good for the other.
