I had forgotten just how drop dead gorgeous Bernadette was at this time. She has always been a favorite of mine, but had I seen this film at the time it was made, I would have been lost in her soulful beauty....(Sigh).
A funny movie that I convinced my father to take me to see on the big screen. Ms. Peters and Mr. Martin were also great together in the drama/comedy/musical PENNIES FROM HEAVEN (1981)... which I also saw in the cinema.
i think that does current movies a disservice. while there is a lot of garbage that gets pumped out, there are some truly unique and amazing films that are being created, always. you have to look beyond surface level and search for the things that speak to you. there are always special and unique ideas being explored in art.
@@stink567 I agree. But my larger point is that The Jerk was major studio release that played in hundreds of theaters across the country. It was mainstream in 1979; today, to your point, one would need to search for it.
0:34 what you hear is "and tonight..." but you can clearly see him mouth the words "but tonight..." And immediately after he did that, you can see in his expression that he knows he just f'ed up LOL. If not for that one tiny whoops, it would've been a perfect lip sync :)
Watch the patience and prudence version on Perry Como show from September 15th 1956 that follows this. Versions are crazy different:: G major vs G flat, timing is slower w/ movie version (better imo), and one has a bridge vs chorus? What do you think if you had to have this played for a family occasion? I ❤ that 🎺 solo

Nonsense, but of course, no matter how irrelevant, your sort never misses a chance to drag that sort of thing into a conversation. You are simply a mirror image of the humorless, doctrinaire, illiberal, fools who you believe you're so much better than.

She’s still beautiful and she’s in her 70s.
I love Bernadette!
THE WAY SHE LOOKS AT HIM..LOVE
"Well I didn't wanna get spit on me" lmao classic
Best Movie scene ever!!
unironically a great cover!

This is an enjoyable movie. Love it.
Love this movie
Adapting it to key of G rather than in it's original G-flat form makes it easier to accompany with my uke.
Love this song Steve Martin is incredibly sexy in a unconventional way
My god, she's gorgeous.
Navin R Johnson 😎
I always bring a wind instrument to the beach
You would never see this in a movie today.
why not tho?
@@GlabTzu It’s so quirky and original. The antitheses of movies today.

I wonder how he feels watching this
Sorry - NOTHING beats the Patience and Prudence rendition of this lovely song!
I will have to give that a listen. It's a great tune and I've never heard that version.
Harry Styles ripped this song off for that tune he came up with in Don't Worry Darling. I knew I'd heard it somewhere before.

@@GlabTzu If Hollywood remade it they would put 2 diverse chicks in it and make them gay. No straight white men allowed to star in remakes any more.
That was such a sweet scene until it was ruined in the end by moronic "humor."
i think that’s just part of the movies charm
not to mention that after that scene bernadette says she didn’t want to kiss him because she was afraid of falling in love
