My ‘23 Sierra Elevation with the 5.3L V8 gets around 20mpg on the highway consistently. It has just over 20k miles without any issues. I’m happy I passed on the 4cyl.
Ay! I love the 2.7 engine cuz it sounds like a turbo whistle makes me feel like im driving a real truck this is awesome
Really like my 23 custom trail boss Z71 2.7 liters with zero issues and 19,200 miles.
What real miming do you get
@
Mileage?
17 est in town which is primarily what I drive. 18-19 hwy depending on speed
I used to own an F350 6.7 Diesel. I recently drove the 2.7 and was very suprised on the power it had. I don't do any heavy hauling so I went with the 1500 Trail Boss Custom with the 2.7. Plus the price savings getting the 2.7 vs the 6.2 was a lot. I ended up getting a 2024 for $43k plus tax, tag, and title. Specs are below comparing the 6.2 vs the 2.7.
6.2L EcoTec3 V8 engine
420 hp [313 kW] @ 5600 rpm
460 lb-ft of torque [624 Nm] @ 4100 rpm
TurboMax engine
310 hp [231 kW] @ 5600 rpm
430 lb-ft of torque [583 Nm] @ 3000 rpm
At elevation, the TurboMax is punchy off the line, I think more punch than the v8. It also gets better mpg overall (barely). Most folks forget, the TurboMax is the bottom engine replacement for GM and most importantly, it helps GM fleet mpg so they can keep the v8.
That said, I get 16-20 city and 21-27 with my 5.3.
Full-size truck should not have four cylinders in them
Exactly V6 minimum
And the abysmal fuel economy.
I had to go back and listen again. 4 banger in a full size pickup 👎🏽
I don't know who's idea is it to put a 4 cylinder engine in a full size truck. Insane!
They have a 4 cylinder so they can still have v8s, it evens out their emissions
A four banger that is getting 16 around town & 17-18 highway!!!!! Why would anyone even consider this much less buy it? Just get the V8
At the end of every week when I fill up I'm averaging between 19.8 to 21 mi per gallon every single time. If I jump straight on the highway and go on a trip I'll get 24. And it's cheaper
For one because this engine isn't crapping out as bad as the 5.3 and 6.2 and on top of it the gas mileage is as bad as that guy saying between 19 and 21 miles per gallon every week City / highway if I jump straight on the highway I'll get 24 no problem.
@@robertchapman4488 I have a heavy foot and I am getting 21 per gallon. GMC reg cab short bed sierra. You would think the so called experts who do these reviews would get the facts straight.
@@robertchapman4488my trailboss 5.3 gets better mileage than that. Lol oh ya the 2.7s are oil burners
@@robertchapman4488 not to mention the 100k warranty
It was actually the 80's when there was a mass shift to smaller vehicles/engines.
He keeps saying small engine, but have you seen the piston size on this four-cylinder that Chevy makes… They are huge!
So what its still a small displacement enginge using high pressure boost to make most of its power and torgque.
still a 4 :/
I think one selling point of the 4cyl is the 100k power train warranty vs the 60k on the 5.3. I test drove both and the 4cyl def felt more torque. Highway they felt the same. Never thought I'd say this but the lil 4banger was pretty comparable.
MPG is 16 & 17 with a 4 banger? Yikes!
I've had the 5.3 and now I have the 2.7 I don't have any regrets and the gas mileage isn't near as bad as what you just said. In the biggest reason is the two GM v8s are shit. They've had nothing but problems.
54k for a custom with a 4 banger????? Yo someone is taking crazy pills!!!!! Who is this made for?
Definitely not a workman
I wouldn't buy that size truck with a four cylinder.
guess GM needs money for their child gender surgery program - no joke, GM is offiicially funding a child transitioning program
@Ben Hardy: More midsize pickup reviews please and thank you
Very nice truck
People such as myself bought the 2.7 for the massive rebates. 5.3 trail boss custom will cost you about 7-8k more
Reliability is the reason you get the 4 cylinder. The 5.3 and 6.2 implode.
Bring back 4.3
Not happening
Have a 2025 custom trail boss with the duromax 3.0 love it - 26 mixed 30-35 highway
It's because the price 48,000 for 4 cylinder turbo Max full size truck and a full size V8 LT V8, LTZ 57,000 Town and country 60,000 or more, also 2.7 turbo Maxx is better than the 5.3 now that's amazing.
averaging 10.2 l/100 so far with my 2.7 100% city driving, regular fuel. they make more torque than the 5.3, dont need premium like the 6. 2, and doesnt have lifter issues that both v8's have. the audio track does suck.
2025 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Custom Z71 Trail Boss Dark Essentials 2.7L TurboMax 4-Cylinder 8-Speed Automatic Crew Cab 4X4!
I'd never buy a 4 cylinder full size, no matter the power numbers, It obviously doesn't help with Fuel economy.. The diesel is the coolest engine for this truck.
Manufacturers don't have to follow EPA as such, they get huge incentives to comply. All about the money
Wildly obtuse (and I suspect purposefully so) big govt green new deal nonsense apologist comment. That's like saying you didn't force a girl to "make love" with you. You just made her know that she would be way better off if she did. Wink wink.
The Biden admin...the DNC and parts of the RNC are all pushing for The Great Reset "fake green/real slow rolled socialism" agenda. None of it is about actually making things green. And corporations who want to still make money...are...no duh....going to go along with the govt's incentives. But blaming the corporations for that....while apologizing and scapegoating the actual culprits...the govt....is next level disingenuous and mental acrobatics.
I'm not really a Chevy guy. However, I had 17' F-150 XLT with the 2.7 Ecoboost. I swapped the turbo for a Waylon. Then, added intercoolers and an oil can seperator. Plus, a simple K&N air cleaner and turbo exhaust system. When done, I got over 450 HP and averaged 25+ mpg.on premium gasoline. I loved that truck! Some drunk moron plowed into me. During Covid! The vehicle wasn't fixed properly, and I couldn't replace it because these dealers were getting MSRP plus markups. So I bought a loaded Nissan Titan PRO4X. That I absolutely hated, but was Lemon Lawed. I wanted a 2.7 F-150 Lariat, but Ford stopped making them. So, I bought a 24' Tacoma Limited. I'm not a fan! I'm probably going to dump it this spring for another 2.7 Ecoboost XLT. I'd rather get a lesser option pickup truck. Then, play with these disposable trucks that consumers have to turn to the aftermarket to make a decent vehicle. I'm seriously thinking about restomoding an old truck. I think I'd be better off than buy this new junk.....
At least ford has a v6 2.7. This one is the 4 cylinder in a Camry or civic 😅
Question what about the four cylinder in the Colorado they drink a lot of gas too.
Where is the rest of the engine haha. Same power as my Frontier 😂
I said the same thing and we get better miles per gallon then this Chevy lol
Your frontier doesn't come close to the torque.
@ it does the job I need it to do
@@robertchapman4488Yes, but it doesn't need that much torque. The MPG is awful, for a 4 cylinder
@@canolocotvExactly
was it me or were those front upper control arm scary thin
The uppes are just locators for the upper balls, the lowers do all the lifting and weight bearing --- torsion bars, ya know.
I just bought a 2025 Silverado V8 the salesmen and other reps at the dealer were trying to sell me hard on the custom four cylinder lol. They were touting that the 4 cylinder was the way everyone was going to buy in the future lol. I looked at both sales price, it didnt make sense for me to downgrade lol
Smart I know someone who sold their 2.7 Silverado after less than one year / 12,000 miles and the dealer was offering him $26k for trade in. He paid $50k. V8 hold their values better coz no one wanna get a 4 banger in a used market.
Gm should have came out with a 6 cylinder twin turbo like ford 2.7 or ram 3.0 i6
I know some one who’s neighbors cousin…………
Can't believe they are still using the old interior on these.
Cheaped out at GM, couldnt even put the normal Silverado lights on the front. It doesn't look like a Silverado. They shouldn't of called that cheap looking four banger a Silverado. V-8 Silverados are the best looking and the best performing full sized trucks.
Neighbor has one with 2.7. Wicked fast. ,nope not stock. New turbo straight pipe, not loud . So far no problems
“Wicked fast” eh? I’ll guarantee you my stock Mazda will smoke it on any 1/4 mile in the country.
The 2.7 has better pickup than the 5.3 I was surprised
Better throttle response also
Better payload to
Has anyone threw a bigger aftermarket turbo on one of these yet?
The 5.3 gets better gas mileage 😂. But I just got a 2.7T F150. Great mpgs, but I think I'll go back to a V8 in a couple years.
16 around town, 17 on the highway? I think you need to go back and check your numbers..
If I order a Chevy Silverado trail boss I will put a big screen and 360 camera on it
4 banger sounds like crap. I sure hope they bring back a 5.3 with no crappy afm. Real reason I have not purchase a new GM product. My Last Yukon went thru 2 motors by 200k.
I think big trucks need a V8 it makes sense
At the very least it should be a twin turbo V6. The V8 is the way to go. The price tag on this thing is so crazy. 51K for a pretty basic truck with a 4 cylinder. Wow.
yup, not a fan of the 4cyl turbos. in any trucks really. including mid size trucks. I got a 23' Nissan Frontier Pro4X, love it. NA V6. Its been great
I will not be in the market for anything newer than 2005, as that is my self-imposed cutoff point. Parts are available and still exist on a lot of the new GM lineup and the computers are all very communicative - at least to me.
I looked for and found a pair of 2005 GM SLE Crew Cabs, Z71, G80, 5.3, 1500 4WD Shortbed trucks - a 43K miles GMC Sierra (Black) and a 68K miles Chevy Silverado (Red) - added tonneaus, rail tubes, custom BOSS Entertainment heads, Rancho 5000-Series shocks, HANKOOK DynaPro tires including the spares, GMRS and 40Ch Am/USB/LSB radios, easy-drop tailgate assists and I get 15MPG Town- 21MPG Hwy in all the creature comfort I could ask for.
I paid cash - so, no payments and seriousky lowered insurance rates for their age and low mileage.
For right around $30K - I have two GM trucks in very close to pristine condition - which, frankly, will outlive me and my wife.
4 cylinders sound so fey and a turbo is going to eat them up a lot earlier than a naturally asperated engine under all conditions.
Just like a bon fire put a fan on it it burns hot but it burns out quick turbos on small engines he’ll no
That’s deep bro!
The 4 might get better mileage than the 5.3 in town.
17 mpg highway? This is 2024 not 2004. Has auto 4WD?
I thought they we’re eliminating the 4 cylinder from the full-size lineup. Guess not.
Used 2.7's for sale all over the place.
Bull shit!
Chevrolet needs to make the 5.3 a little louder it’s too quiet
Nice truck....but FAR from $54k nice.
Yes more like 40-44k
MPG you said is totally wrong 18city/22 highway also more play load capacity with the 2.7 by a significant amount (around 200-225lbs more). The 2.7 has been in Chevy for almost 7 years and the 4yrs in this high output model with good reliability (the 5.3 is destroying lifters with it cylinder deactivation system). I think you have some of the best walkthroughs of trucks in RUclips but in this case maybe do some more research before you comment on how bad it is.
That truck needs at least the 5.3 v8
Man that engine sound is rough on a big truck
4 cylinder gets better around town mileage. V8 gets better highway mileage
You can hear the absolute disappointment in Ben’s voice lol
I must be one boring basic person because this truck has enough on the inside for me. Every time I've driven a luxury type car I never used any of the luxury gadgets.
Sounds horrible. Love my 24 with its 5.3.
Sounds like a lawnmower...
Chevys trim tier system makes no sense.
Why does your thumnail on this look like you are depressed 😂😂
No wonder with this truck and it's 4 cylinder engine
@Blue-moon12 not a reason to be depressed.
What horrible MPG
I averaged 20 with all types of driving, jump straight on the highway you'll get 24 to 25 MPG
I’d be okay with it if it were reliable, but I’ve heard bad things.
They don't have near the problems as the two GM v8s. I don't know what you're reading they've had nothing but problems with the two v8s since 2011. I work for a parts store we sell more 5.3 l than any other engine. They're always going bad.
You heard wrong. They have been around since 2019 with very few problems.
Base trim with a 4 banger for $53k, good lord.
Full Size and 4 cyls do not mix well on the same sentence
Trailboss=v8
Trail trainee =4cyl
A 4cyl with GMs problematic 8spd (where there’s a class action lawsuit) is quite the pairing… Sign me up….not
They're re did the 8 speed band fixed the problems in this truck
It's 2025 and chevy is still scamming with the tiny screen and the fact that every truck doesn't come keyless entry button on at least the front handles. You should not have to opt for an LT to get the larger screen, this should not be an option, get with the times. There are 30k cars that have larger screens than this. I feel that at this point every truck should have the 13" screen. Cut the crap chevy. And it's not like these trail boss custom are cheap, I'm sure the sticker on this is over 50.
yeah it's so dumb putting a smaller engine with a turbo in a truck trying to move around the same amount of weight a V8 normally would. of course you're gonna use more gas. that's what the dumb government we have now decided...
Your statement is dumb!
This is Slower than a Ford F 150
@Bullseye1539lol, no
4 cylinder 🤣😂🤣
This is not practical
Nice truck with a garbage engine
Naw it’s only nice looking 👀 imagine if you went to a strip club 😂
At elevation, the TurboMax is punchy off the line, I think more punch than the v8. It also gets better mpg overall (barely). Most folks forget, the TurboMax is the bottom engine replacement for GM and most importantly, it helps GM fleet mpg so they can keep the v8.
