I would add another point that really works for me
    11) FINISH YOUR ART PIECES: don't abandon your projects or work forever on a single one, give them some form of closure, and be consistent, finish your current project before starting another one. If you feel you have a lot of ideas, tackle them one by one, if you are working on a project and you think you have the best idea ever, just make a quick sketch and notes, then return and finish your current project. This forces you to go through all stages of the process.
Think about music, if you learn only the intros of songs or the solos you're missing everything else, and play a complete song is as satisfying as finishing an art piece.

10:09 oof this part kind of hurts, in the past 2 years i've been drawing fanart for my followers bc i'm afraid i'll lose them, and that kind of led me to a really bad anxiety and eventually made me hate my own art. currently, since my passion to draw is coming back, i'm trying to find confidence to post my art online again

Did you start learning art to be enslaved by the requests of other people? You probably didnt. Draw what makes you happy, what you crave the most, because that will fuel your passion for drawing and in consecuence make you a better artist. Even the best artists, who do regular commisions and have drawing as their job, they all have some separate time to draw what they like, to draw something that they love.

yeah in art school the emphasis was childrens cartoons, so I learned how to draw 3.5 head proportions when all I wanted to do was young adult ultra violence fanatsy and sci fi. After graduation I spent like 3 years trying to pass myself off as a childrens animator, but recruiters always saw right through that facade, lol. Im drawing my own comics now, not really sure if art will ever be a career, but fortunately I have information tech skills to make $ with.

One thing I recently learned and started to use maybe a week or so ago that I wish I knew earlier: If you feel like you can’t draw every single day, which is understandable, have a paper/sketchbook where you draw at least one thing every day. I like to draw just a simple face, maybe at some angle, but just something. It doesn’t even have to be anything specific: maybe just some doodle, weird pattern, it’s up to you! This helps me keep up the motivation to draw

indeed it is a golden tip, especially the one about " if your last year art sucks compared to what you can do now, you are doing fantastic" that really gave me a confidence boost, my skills over time in 1 year basically skyrocketed a bit as i did a leap towards the better by using just 2 arts for referance that learnt me about the importance of curves and stuff, referance really helps, thank you marc, you are awsome

A tip I've found helps is to also look and follow artists whose work is not really your cup of tea, because you look at it more objectively rather than because you like the aesthetic and I think having that balance is important and you'll learn a lot even from art you don't necessarily enjoy.

This was such an inspiring video. I've been trying to pick up 3D modelling for a while now. I've done a few beginner's courses, as well as made a few simple objects based on references, but, like you said, I find myself getting discouraged by learning new things that open the floodgates to even more things I still need to learn. I haven't opened blender in a few months now because I was getting so discouraged by the massive gap between where I wanted to be, and where I am. Your comments about having the right mindset, self-awareness, and keeping expectations in check are exactly what I needed to hear. I'm going to open blender again tomorrow with a fresh mindset. Thank you, really.

It was your comment about burnout and art not being fun was the driving moment that made me realize where I was in my art. Best wishes and I look forward to gleaning more insight from your videos.

Another one is to learn the terms and definitions of the fundamentals and elements of art. If you have a hard time understanding and breaking down how artist created their piece. You're going to have a even harder time trying to recreate or even copy. So learn the basics and create a mindset of constant growth and learning. Because whatever stagnates dies so keep moving and keep working.

I am not in this business I am just watching because it is interesting and the drawing is interesting. I do want to point out that at point 3 you make it seem like mindset is mostly dependent on upbringing and that if you didn't get that from your upbringing it is pretty much game over, that is how your words come across. While I agree that a lot of our personality is a result of our upbringing. I can't stand behind the notion that it remains fixed, especially not something as malleable as mindset or identity. Yes, some things do remain fixed like IQ but that is mostly genetic. However, things like identity and mindset are just clumps of memory creating your paradigm of the world and are highly malleable with the right techniques. This is a whole domain of study. I have changed my mindset and identity numerous times throughout my life, I wasn't born wealthy or in an ambitious family yet I managed to deliberately change my mindset, now I own a profitable eCommerce company and I am big into self-development. Changing your mindset and identity is the lowest hanging fruit for success and manageable by most people with a normal functioning brain.

I don’t know... maybe give it another listen? All I said is what you start with is not the same, but the good news is that you can change your mindset with practice. That’s what’s interesting about it, and the only reason I brought it up as a way to quickly improve 🙂

sometimes i will draw for an hour everyday for two weeks straight but i always end up stoping for long periods of time but the interest to draw never goes away. for this reason i never seem to get better but im okay with being a mediocre artist besides its not like i want build a career out of so whatever. the most important part is having fun right?

Thanks for this video. God damn did I need it. I am guilty of many things said in this video (eg. not using reference, not practicing enough etc.) These are some very useful tips. I think if I stick to them and actually try, I'll see improvement over time. Thanks :)

I’ve been drawing so much from reference that now it’s hard not to... I’m not sure what’s next.

To be honest, back to my teenage years, I was so harsh on myself, like I would just get so frustrated at myself for not having a result that I was expecting in my head, so I would just cry and rip the paper and call myself useless. It was just a big mess for me to find the right way to improve myself, unfortunately, back then the internet was not that open than now, so it was kinda hard to find anything that would help me. My parents weren't really encouraging me or never say their point of view, what I would always get was "Mmm"/"Cool". My grandmother was so picky and was forcing me to be the next Leonardo Da Vinci fuck sake. And well, my older sister once said about my drawing I worked really hard on that "it's just a piece of paper", I remember getting very heartbroken and I just stopped drawing, even though it was just a sentence, it just ruined me. I don't think I fully abandoned drawing back then, I would still doodle something in my school notebook.
Right now I'm actually thanking myself for finally accepting any mistake or I would look at my old drawings with a smile on my face, because the results I have now are because of these old drawings, I don't really say "my old drawings suck" because they helped me somehow, so I still appreciate them. I really feel more comfortable after finally figuring out my own style, my own vision. Something unexplainable happened to me that now I never feel jealous about someone's art or else, I instead just observe them, I don't really care what people think of my art, as long as they don't insult me or else. Of course, it makes me happy when people actually love my drawings and think that I actually know what I'm doing. The last one year I don't know what happened but I improved drastically and I didn't really do much or maybe I just didn't notice, but now I have almost no difficulty at drawing. Everything just improved out of nowhere. It's crazy. Maybe my brain just realized something lol
P.S. I love the video and I'll try my best! Thank you!

The comprehension of all art is in the drawing of a single line.

I think the art I made last week sucks compared to today, so I guess I'm making progress even if I don't notice it
