    Thanks so much for posting this! I'm building a deck and was about to give up and just use brackets to install my knee bracing. This is just what I needed to see to figure out what I was doing wrong!

    Beautiful way to assemble that deck support. Must have required a little thought and effort to make that work. Thanks for sharing.

    Nice work. Always interesting to see the solutions people come up with such as the jack and maple wedge. Must have been satisfying when the tenon popped in. I'd be interested to see more footage of the construction.

      @Johnathan Cairo I really appreciate your reply. I found the site thru google and I'm waiting for the hacking stuff atm.
      Takes quite some time so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.

    Guess what I am building? A pergola with mortise and tenon joints in the knee braces, a.k.a. “gussets”. I am lucky though, I will be assembling it on the ground and tipping it up, so no tight fits. Also using dowels to hold the tenon in place. Good to see your stuff back. I have seen anything in a long time.

    Those are absolutely my favorite skill saws. They don't makem like that anymore. I've accumulated at least 8.

    Looks great. I didn't think maple was good for outside use. I like the technique, I'd put glue on the wedge so the wedge & brace become one.

    Not to be that guy, but that's a brace, not a gusset. If you put a metal plate over the joint where the brace meets the post and bolted it to both, that would be a gusset. Good video, though.

      Wouldn't it have been cheaper to use a smaller size lumber, since the weight & structural load of the 30feet floor/deck is now being transferred to the size reduced gusset cut-out?

    вспомнил, что укосину, надо устанавливать до того как балку опустить ...
    Пришлось изподвыподверта изловчится ... (тоже решение)

    Hmm....hearing all that cracking and snapping as you jacked up the gusset makes me wonder if more damage was done that it was worth to have a tight fitting brace??

    lower hole was how much longer than upper one, how deep is? my beam was 14x14cm.

    What's a gusset? I know mortice and tennon, but not a gusset. Shouldn't the knee brace go in before the beam goes up?

    • @SteBros
      @SteBros  4 года назад +2

      Knee braces are supports to be worn when you have pain in your knee. A gusset is a bracket strengthening an angle of a structure. lol
