This guy is the real deal. He released this song in prison, and by the time he got out, the song was charting everywhere.
Snow's also been perma-banned from both the US and Japan. Dude was a legit gangster, with most of his family being mobsters, while he was out boosting - apparently his mom once came to visit him, two of his cousins, and his dad in jail, at the same time.
This is about as legit gangsta as you can get as a Canadian.
💯
Ahh, fellow Canadian here, thanks for this, I didn’t know about the family but I knew he was fascinated with the gangster lifestyle. Now it al makes sense. I didn’t think he himself was really hard core. I stand corrected, I m even more interested in learning about the life in his neighborhood back then. I was told it was North York amongst Irish Canadians and then Jamaicans started settling in the area and he developed a love of reggae (also rock)
Either way, definitely prefer Canadian gangsters 😉
Thanks for the background info!
Irish connections
Oh yeah it’s early 90s! “Informer” is based on a real-life incident in which Snow was charged with two counts of attempted murder. However, those charges were later reduced to aggravated assault, and finally he was acquitted altogether.
And “a licky boom boom down” basically means he will hit down the “informer”
Yes, this, so much this. Every reaction vid to Snow I see, someone's gotta tell people the dudes Canadian and he's rapping like he's Jamaican. I'm from the same area as Snow.
He says "a licky boom-boom dem" (not "down"), which means that the informers are ass-kissers.
At least that’s what I learned online! Lol!
dont he is a racist
He grew up in a Jamacian neighborhood in Toronto. People hated on him for rippin the culture, but he had real cosigns. He lives in Jamaca now..
😎 ******NOTHING BREAKS STEREOTYPES, LIKE A WHITE, CANADIAN, REGGAE, HIP HOP, RAPPER****** 😎
shud hear Jimmy Carey's version called imposter 🤯
I think Matisyahu might have something to say about that.... LuLz
@@vkdeen7570 I wouldn't watch that because Snow wasn't an imposter, so no way I would watch another artist accusing him of that.
@@vkdeen7570 that that sh*t was hella wack
this black racist does
FYI, Snow grew up in a small city in Canada where a lot of Jamaicans lived. Those were his friends.
Toronto
Didn’t know Toronto was a small city ? 😂 He grew up in Allenbury government housing right behind Fairview Mall and the song is about him going to jail after being charged with attempted murder for a stabbing !!!!
@@miro1998It wasn't Toronto then. He lived in North York, which was fairly small in the 80s & 90s. I know, because I lived in Etobicoke.
an irish-canadian who rap in jamaican patois 😎
Beastie Boys walked, so Snow could run, so Eminem could Fly.. LOL
Uv miss mr VIP..😂

Thank you.
Watching "first time" reaction videos for this song has been my new fav thing for the last 7 days.
"Licky boom boom dem", means to 'take care' of an informer. This song was a true life incident for Snow. Liar sent him to prison for a while, case was lowered and finally dropped. I was wondering, if the guy being put in his cell at the end of the video was pretending to be 'the informer' and that is why Snow was smiling.....time to licky boom boom dem!!! -- MC Shan is also a good rapper. I think Snow is AWESOME.
If you look at the words to the song he's saying Lick you Boom Boom Down. Something got lost in translation between people thinking he was a white guy from Jamaica to actually being a white guy from Canada with mad skills.
@@dawnprice6914 According to Urban Dictionary, it is Dem, not Down, and that's what I hear 3/4 of the time. I think it's both but mostly Dem, as in Them.
He talking about shooting the rat
@@dawnprice6914 a lot of times the words that are written down like for CD booklets, web pages, youtube and stuff are written down by ear. So "official" lyrics are not always accurate.
I'm a white Canadian dude from Ontario, and I can sing this entire song. You should check out his other tracks like Legal, Runway, Lonely Monday Morning, Anything For You, and my favorite Snow song SHAME, featuring Mykal Rose.
You got it though, it's from the early 90s. I'm 34 now and have been listening to this song since it came out. Snow's from Toronto, Ontario.
This song was also sampled for Daddy Yankee's Con Calma
🇨🇦 snow was 🔥
Facts Im a white kid who grew up in rexdale in the 90s this was the song nahh meann
It's French with Jamaican
@@ghostvon4349 no it isn't lmao
I was 11 wen this came out loved this song… went number one back then for a few weeks , best decade of all time , informer 🙏💪
documentary, Snow says the line implies fisticuffs-“'A licky boom-boom down' means, like, I'll hit down the informer; I'll knock the informer out” Snow did jail time for boosting cars
Lady with the red dress on is my favorite Snow song. Informer was fire when it dropped
I owned this album on cassette. Lonely Monday Morning is the same story, but different groove.
Love that song. ❤️.
I wish more reactors would react to the REST of this album.
I was 18 when this song came out and it was everywhere! Nobody believed he was White guy from Canada that was singing Reggae and speaking Patois.....such a club and dancing jam in the day
Snow is Canadian (as am I) and I remember when this song came out. It was a HUGE hit. He grew up in Toronto and those in his neighobourhood were all from the islands (specifically Jamaica) so it's in his blood. The song is about “Informer” basically as an insult against those who he claimed “snitched on” him, which led to him doing an eight-month bid in the maximum-security Toronto East Detention Center. Owing to this, the hook of the track is based on Snow physically threatening the “informer” who got him locked down.
Snow "Runway"...Nuff Said
Don't forget a more recent track of his, SHAME featuring Mykal Rose
i agree ... snow on runway is very dangerous..
I miss the 90s 😢
A Lickey is a hit or punch. He is threatening to beat the informer up. It's a mix of Patois and chatter rhyme.
Given Snow's rep, it's a believable threat too. Man's beaten up a lot of people in his day and survived to joke about it.
SNOW is also an acronym, i forget what it means but i saw an interveiw with one of his Jamaican homeboys and bruh laid it out...
he's speaking jamaican patois
America had vanilla ice who was a pretend gangster but canada had snow and believe me he was a real gangster😂😂😂
They portrayed and made fun of him like he was another Vanilla Ice but he’s for real. His music was pretty legit and his later stuff was embraced by the reggae scene in Jamaica
I was young when this came out, but I've never seen the video. I always liked it.
Snow is the white guy and the black dude who rapped is MC Shan (A real Hip Hop Legend/GOAT). He was rapping on the track because he put Snow on and was co-signing him. MC Shan gave the greenlight and Snow blew up. I remember when this dropped like it was yesterday. I was 11 years old, I'm 40 year old now as I type this, lol. This song was a hit, he had another jawn too called 'Lonely Lonely Monday Morning' or something like that, but that was dope too.
Dude I remember to I'm 42 lol he met shan in Jamaican queens in New York if I remember correctly. I believe it was like 93 or 94 when this dropped
A leaky boom boom down means the informer got smoked.
This song was #1 on billboard
this was in 1992 , i was 17 and this was a hit..
Hes talkin about puttin down the snitch that ratted to the cops on a murder. He got locked up for it and he was serving time when this vid came out. First time he saw the vid was in jail bruh. He grew up in Toronto in the jamaican housing projects, Snow was really bout that life bruh. And yeah this was the 90s.
Dope As Shit ✌🏼
Snow is the white rapper. MC Shan is featured on this. MC Shan was very unappreciated rapper from the late 80s early 90s.
Who unappreciated Shan?? That’s The Godfather of queens hiphop
Facts at this time the west was making hella noise
I cant speak any language but English i understand everything hes saying most be because i was born in 88 and my brothers would listen to this in like 90s 95
Hello from Cody Wyoming! You're awesome keep it up🤠
This is the final boss for english students.
He's my favourite Spanish rapper
Lol
I’m dead 😂
Lol not Spanish haha
Por supuesto
He's Canadian
You've read the feedback about 90's verification, as well as, have looked up Snow's lyrics by now. I am a fan of his first album which this song is on. Maybe you should check his other video, "Girl, I've Been Hurt". Snow had great vocal ability back then, along with great choice of song theme variety on his first album to attract numerous fans of multiple genres. Although, now, I think that it might have been a small fault which kept him to 1 hit album. He could have stuck with Reggae fusion/hip-hop/dance throughout the first album to get the fans & followers. Then, in following albums, chose split the song genres (to point out his vocal ability, writing talent, along with mentality & personality), I believe he might have had a longer on-going, active career, as well as more hits. He has stated about keeping active for other musicians! Among everything, on RUclips & elsewhere, we all see that Snow has endless fans.
30 years old!
Snow is more gangster than all the kids these days. When this video came out, he watched it in prison first time for attempted murder
The good old days
I think it came out 1993, and he's from Toronto Canada. ❤️
This song was fire 🔥 when it dropped in ‘92
King bee. Back by dope demand
Old skool classic
Original Raggamuffin style
Speak in patua or patois jamaican
The craziest part is kinda that at this time were going crazy with parental advisory stickers on albums and boycotting artists for f the police and cop killer..and he dropped this on their heads and know body even knew.
hella 90's early 90's to be specific. "take the man to city then imma stomach stab somewhere down the lane, i licky boom boom down". it's about killing informers (ops, snitches etc). fucking insane for something that most people think is a booty reggae jam. which it also is cos it bops hard.
Ha my mam played me this in 1993. Loved it, came out about the same time as "Lets talk about Sex baby" 😂
30 years later both are classic
Very catchy
Song summary for those who don't speak Patois:
1. A police informer snitched on Daddy Snow to the 5-0 for allegedly stabbing a man down the lane.
2. Police violently arrested and violated him in prison but allowed one phone call which he used to call his love Tammy, who came and bailed him out.
3. When you hear Daddy Snow, you think he come from Jamaica, but he was brought up in poverty in a ghetto at Toronto, Canada. His friends were pure Black people.
Snow put in work on the streets before this.
They call him snow cuz he's white AF and white Canadian but he grew up in the Jamaican slums in Edmonton Canada and he's very well accepted in the Jamaican community
He didn't live in Edmonton. He grew up in Toronto (as stated in the song).

Absolutely from the 90's. Saw the debut of this video. I think 96 it was or 94.
"born and a raised in a Ca na da" "I blickey boom boom down"
He's speaking English but it's Jamaican island slang like Rastafarian
Patois, it would be patois
Rastafarian = Rasta for I(Rasta for me) and is more of a religion/movement and not a language.
No its French Jamaican.
Jamaican patois,
@@1983spuds it's French American Jamaican

Early 90s
Yep only on the nineties they button up the shirt all the way
He is speaking Patois. Jamaican slang. He grew up in a primarily Jamaican neighborhood in Toronto Canada.
This sing was about snitching by his boy. Lick your boom boom down is shooting the dude for snitching on him. Snow was about that life. No fake at all

This song was released in 1993
Snow is the whites guy, Sham was the black guy.
In this you made statements about questioning lyrics while attracted to the music. Understandable. You're among the +95% of us who said the same thing the first time hearing this song. One hit wonder. Hes singing in Jamaican
Not a one hit wonder. Girl I've Been Hurt charted 19th on the Billboard Top 100. He had several others chart in Canada. I remember Lady With The Red Dress On getting significant radio airtime.
He’s speaking English🤣
