Tbh...every villager got a downgrade. I'm tired of having the same conversation over and over with every villager type. I wish they'd stop adding new villagers and start giving each a district personality and dialogue, like in the gamecube version. (Yes, I am THAT person who can't let the classic go). I just want a villager to be mean to me honestly lmfao
There need to be more shops. We should be able to build an Observatory for Celeste and put it somewhere on the island. Same goes for a cafe and other things.
they added the art exhibit to the museum as an afterthought so i really don’t see why they wouldn’t be able to include an observatory for celeste somehow
I think they should add a city type thing like in City Folk with all the shops just so people who spent a long time on making their islands perfect don't have to completely change the layout to include things like a cafe or observatory.
I feel like rover is the MOST downgraded character in acnh, he went from being the first character you saw in new leaf, to being restricted to 1 DAY IN A WHOLE YEAR!!! He could be in a future cafe update, where he could appear once in a while to give you travel diys or give you a task to do for furniture!
That’s fair. I mostly wanted to stick to characters that you still see often though , since otherwise the list would have a bunch of one-off characters like Rover, Reese, etc.
I feel like Isabelle has been downgraded in New Horizons because she really took the spotlight in New Leaf and Tom Nook didn’t do as much. So it’s understandable is having her not do as much. Hopefully in the future, she can mention if a special character is on the island or come out of Residents Services more for future holidays.
Also in New Leaf there was a event in February which was Groundhog Day. So maybe Resetti and Don can run this event for like a February update but I’m not sure.
She can be less of importance while not being annoying. You already have to wait forever for the game to boot up and then for the announcements to boot up, only for her to tell useless stuff. I just find it ironic, because everyone loved Isabelle, the kind hearted workaholic. Everyone thought she deserved her vacation. Now she's got her vacation and she feels like a new character because her personality is flipped once you get past "sweetness".

But the many things it's lacking that were there in other games just doesn't make it good. And I personally don't want to update my game every month or so to get things that should be there from the beginning anyway.

Then also wait for updates to get smth that makes the game more exciting for a few days. Seriously. And the "little things" aren't anything to look forward to since, like I said, they should have been in the game anyway. Yes, the updates have some newER features that haven't been in previous games(such as new furniture or fences) but it's rlly nothing more than having the special holiday occasions back.

That’s because, there is a set time, let’s say it’s 1 minute. You take 30 seconds to log off, it them will take another 30 seconds to load when you go back on. If you don’t want to wait next time, take longer exiting the game.
You should also add all the characters who were literally replaced by furniture items or become temporary visitors. Cyrus and Reese? Replaced along with their shop 'Re-Tail' by DIY tables. Harriet? Replaced along with her shop 'Shampoodle' by mirrors. The pelicans who ran the post office? Replaced by the small post box inside the airport. And now, Leif and Kicks don't even have their own shops. And judging by the datamine, Brewster won't be having his cafe either. Plenty of interesting special characters and buildings missing. It's funny and sad because this game emphasises on terraforming, but lacks furniture variety and special buildings. This game feels more like an island decorator instead of an island life simulator.
Every one need a to understand to stop comparing them. They r not the same GAME. New leaf was all at once with its game and new horizons has a 3 yr plan...like the idea or not . But they approached this game differently. So u can't compare them until new horizons is complete . It's not currently.

I think that you should be able to change what music plays on your island..for example by talking to Isabelle, you could change the Acnh 9pm tune to the 9pm tune from new leaf, or city folk,etc.
I kinda wish that there was a mute button for the background music so that you can place radios and such around your island and still hear that but not have the background music interfere. It can be pretty annoying depending what mood you're looking for on your island.
We need villager upgrade because my villagers sound like broken records rather than real friends who love to talk to you, visit you, send letters to you and have them simply hang out. Edit: More conversations! More info in the morning announcements like “I bet the meteor shower tonight will look great with friends! I love watching meteor showers with my family and friends!”
I agree with this 100%! The villagers say the same thing over and over. No more charming conversations like Wild World nor New Leaf...im still hoping they improve the conversations but I honestly doubt it. Its fucking Nintendo...

Then we could have Phyllis deliver mail and leak island gossip. You could also have left messages for people who have visited with your Visitor Pass etc with Pelly/Pete...this would have been so cute.

i think celeste should visit on the first of every month (meteor shower or not) so you can make new constellations that appear every so often throughout the month! it’d add more diversity to her speech because (possibly) whenever she shows on a meteor night she can chat about the stars and your new constellations!
I honestly think one of the biggest flaws when it comes to New horizons is the lack of personality and dialogue to play 'safe'. too many attention on details, effects and seasons made the other way around when it came to that and it really makes me sad as it gets really boring sometimes
This entire video speaks deeply to my heart. I love NH. I have played it for a very unhealthy 1000h by now. However, I'm so sad by how so many legacy characters were left by the wayside. There's always hope of their return but the wedding event with Cyrus and Reese barely did them justice. I loved how many non-villager characters New Leaf had and while I don't mind Gulliver and Gullivarrr that much, I'm so sad about Resetti. He is not even visible and can't be called to Harv... whose island I mainly use for planning out rooms. And to throw "Goodbye Parties" for villagers who move out. I'm also really sad about how many characters were lost due to the Dodos and a postcard stand. A lot of quality of life updates sadly came at the cost of beloved characters.
I’m honestly not a big fan of this game compared to New Leaf. It just feels empty. I know they’ll keep adding updates for holidays and stuff, but if they’re like anything we’ve gotten so far (Bunny Day) I’m not looking forward to it. I’m just not a fan of the updates in general. Most of them have just added stuff that was in previous games. If it’s NEW Horizons then the stuff it should be adding should be NEW.
BMoney8600 Yeah, I don’t know if it’s the nostalgia talking, but it just doesn’t feel the same. The bigger focus on customization instead of the life sim aspect kinda kills it for me tbh.
Honestly, seeing how the updates are and how good the fall update looks is giving me hope. I honestly think this is going to be the best Animal Crossing. Getting back into it after a while, I’m really enjoying myself. My villagers seem to have new dialogue as well.
I personally prefer Gulliver & Celeste in this game. I didn't like having to look up the answers for Gulliver in New Leaf (yes, I am that uncultured), and this is the first game where I actually give a crap about Celeste at all because I want those DIYs. I also enjoy that she tells about the Zodiac signs if you bring her the items/fragments relating to them; much, MUCH more interesting than standing around the museum. I feel Leif has been done dirty. He used to have his own shop and now he's a random visitor, whaaaat? I kinda feel similar about Label, too. But Isabelle and Resetti do have to be the most painful downgrades. Listening to Isabelle add insult to the no-announcements injury every day with her repetitive dialog is really making me dislike her...I don't wanna dislike her.

@@Kazoo_Itchy if you want a good example of why people fell for her as a character, look up the fan song "turning over a new leaf". That aspect of someone making the town function whenever you're gone, along with cute moments used to show game progress (like seeing her fall asleep unlocked the option to build the dream suite), really cemented her as an endearing character.
Some characters I think were downgraded are Wisp He used to have such a fun role taking the form of other characters and being able to bring villagers into your town, now he’s just an annoying side quest Lloid Since tortimer island was removed Lloid only has one role which is unfortunately his least interesting role, being a donations box However I do actually really like Harv’s Island more than most people, the wedding event is one of my favourites, it’s a great way to create fun screenshots, especially when you bring villagers and NPCs into it, and you can get them to do exactly what you want so you don’t have to worry about them walking away like you would when taking photos on your island, but mainly a lot of people have created animal crossing mini movies with harvs island which are very entertaining and cool to watch, so overall I definately think it’s a good feature
I don't use Harv's island much but it's a fun feature. I honestly would have preferred Harv's island being done by a different NPC and keep Harv with the RVs. Why? I was really hopping he'd come back with the RVs and we could rent one. And also be able to see Random NPCs in his campsite
I think the most disappointing one not on this list is Reese and Cyrus. I mean I did enjoy the wedding event in June. I thought it was cute how you took wedding photos of them for their anniversary, and I loved the wedding items you got from Cyrus in exchange for the heart crystals that Reese rewarded you with for taking the photos, but I would have rather had Re-Tail back. It felt more convenient having two stores to sell things at, plus if you were still playing the game at 10 PM after Nook's Cranny was closed, Re-Tail was still open for that hour. I liked being able to sell items there and see villagers buy them. It was also convenient having Cyrus re-paint various furniture items (which you can't even do with the customization kits for most of them) and make clam shell music boxes (something I'm surprised hasn't been brought back as a DIY recipe since with the giant clams and K.K. Slider albums, the materials are there and all that's missing is the DIY recipe.)
Dr. Shrunk and Harriet (I honestly have no idea how or if they can bring anything to New Horizons) Also literally nobody talks about them, but I would like to see Booker and Copper return; I miss lost and found, and them telling me what's going on
Harriet got replaced by a mirror.. I never played any AC games that came before Pocket Camp and New Horizons (since those are the only 2 I have ever access to). But I'd love to go to the salon and get my hair done (and edit my character).
Reese and Cyrus also had a HUGE downgrade. In New Leaf, they ran Re-Tail and you could customize items. However, in New Horizons... they are just used for Wedding Season, which the event itself is boring and repetitive. BUT, the reason could be because of the ability to craft things. They could at least also have a better role in the game.
Rover also had a downgrade because in the older games, he would be the one you first meet. But in New Horizons, he is seen only one time, and that is on May Day. Nintendo could at least try and fix that.
I loved Re-tail as I could sell my unwanted items for more money and I could get the piece of furniture from my villagers house that I couldn't seem to find, I wish it was still in the game.
I feel like Celeste did get a slight upgrade, instead of just being in a museum and doing nothing in New Leaf, now she walks around your island and gives you recipes for astrology inspired furniture. It's not as good as she used to have in games before, but at least it's an upgrade from New Leaf

Its sad to see some absolutely beloved characters lose their worth, I hope Nintendo can pull it back in the next year or so. New horizons has so much potential to be even better. But Nintendo has yet to give us any of the big features we really want.
They did Mr Ressetti so dirty Sure, everybody else was ruined or straight up removed, but Ressetti LOST HIS JOB AND WAS SENTENCED TO A HELICOPTER And to make it worse, nobody ever USES the feature! There’s also Rover, Capn’, Kicks, Lief, Brewster, The Pelicans, Harriet, Dr Shrunk, Lyle, Katrina, Sable, Joan, Phineas, and Even Redd! It’s so disappointing to see these characters lack in personality, appearance, and existence in the game itself. The worst part is that Nintendo doesn’t plan to do anything for these characters either.
I've only used it when my drift was severe, like 6 times. Who the hell thought the rescue service was a good idea, people with short attention spans or users with badly drifting Joy-cons?
Okay, look. I love Isabelle to pieces. I think she's the most cutest, friendliest, helpful and hardworking character of the Animal Crossing franchise, and honestly, without her, our towns in New Leaf would be a fucking train wreck. But if I could say one thing that's been bothering me about her in New Horizons is saying the same shit over and over again when there is no news during the broadcast. Like, come on. No one cares that you cares that you finished a crossword puzzle, that you found your favorite sock behind your washer, etc. Like, if she was saying those things once and said new things during the broadcast when there isn't any announcements, that would be much better and less annoying. Also, I have Pros and Cons of New Horizons, and one my biggest cons are the villagers lacking personality and repeating the same dialogue everyday. Like, come on, Nintendo! If you had your villagers with great and funny personality in your past AC games, why not put it in this one? Now, I think one reason is why Nintendo did this is probably because they were worried that kids might get upset when their favorite villager gets angry at them and says hurtful things. That I can understand because I would honestly feel the same way. But, why do you have to suck out their entire personalities because of that? But who knows, maybe in future updates they will bring back personalities for the villagers and non-resident animal characters. I still love New Horizons a lot, and I think I got a lot done in it than I have with New Leaf, but I would love it a lot more if they could maybe bring more life and personalities into their characters just like from their past games.
I would be fine with isabelle telling us things we don’t care about if it was like once every few days and if it didn’t repeat. That way I would probably find it much cuter than having to read something over and over every damn day

Gulliver was always such a delight in New Leaf. Something about his questions testing your real-world geography skills was really fun, and he was probably one of my favorite special characters in the game. In New Horizons though... yeah, his minigame is an absolute chore to me. Not even kidding, there are times where I just... left him on the beach without talking to him. Like, all he wants you to do is slowly walk up and down the beach looking for communicator parts, which I personally find pretty boring. And Gullivarr is just... basically that but in the water. Woo.
Villagers convos and personalities have been downgraded Furniture has been downgraded. Thousands less items in this game than others means nearly every dream island I visit is similar Villager houses all contain the same furniture for the most part, and some are almost empty Only 4 fruits in this game Villagers are way less interactive and will spout the same exact lines every single time you speak to them Villagers talking non stop about tourneys, HHA visits, etc. Game is a literal bore for me. Its basically just a villager collector with no substance.
When I first got ACNH, my first reaction? “Woah. Is this what I paid for?” The music was changed horribly. I still highly prefer the soothing and relaxing rain ambience for New Leaf. And the Town Hall music for NH? Freaking. Scary. The villagers didn’t have the same spark as last time. It’s like, “Dom. My dude. I love you in all your glory, but I do not give a **** that your sitting down in such a obvious spot.
I love how everyone who played new leaf was like: “omg Isabelle works so hard, she deserves a break 🥺🥺” ACNH: *Isabelle is on vacation Players: “WTF why is she useless now, I hate her 😒”

I really miss the variety of shops and businesses, just having the main shop and the clothing shop feels a bit flat when compared to the variety we’ve had in previous versions of the game.

He still yells at you. If you reset or forget to save the game a certain amount of times hes still himself. In new leaf i mean. Though after you make him raise his blood pressure you have to see his brother or cousin Don. Yeah he and Don are nicer as you said. With Sonny (Chubby mole ressetti) hes nicer only if you visit him.

It’s so sad but this time around all the characters bore me including NPC’s, I try enjoy the dialogue sometimes then it’s so repetitive and i get so bored so i just zoom around avoiding everyone
CRYING I miss new leaf...I am actually going to invest in a new 3ds and a new copy of the game, plus all of the online features are still up and running.
I still have my Nintendo DS and I had animal crossing since 2014 its a really good game I haven't played it since 2015. Reason? I lost the game card. RIP
I think Kicks is downgraded, I mean in city folk i'm pretty sure he was homeless. Then in New leaf he got his own show! Now in new horizons he is a vendor at a booth. Mabel did the same thing early on in the game and I thought that the same would happen to kicks.... but oh was I wrong!
It would be great if Isabelle told us who the special visitior is on our island during her morning announcement. That way you would know to look out for them 😄
New leaf: Isabelle is super helpful, the best character, and the game would be unplayable without her New horizons: ughhhhhh where are all the USEFUL features? And NO I do NOT care about a new episode of a show you like
Honestly the villagers have the most downgrade. I know they weren’t included but it’s sad on how much the dialogue has change. I love lazies and currently have three but it feels like every time I just get an echo of conversation from them
I feel like Celeste has been on a slow downgrade since Wild World/City Folk, she used to have her own little observatory where you could make constellations and see them in your town's sky as well as being able to see a friend's constellations if you went to their town, then in New Leaf she sold items on the 2nd floor of the museum and helped you build exhibits. Now all she does is walk around during a meteor shower to give you a DIY recipe...
At this point I would've wanted to build an observatory, a cafe, re-tail, police station and club lol but I have no space for all of these stores anymore
That's why I think they should give you an option to buy another island for a "city" area- the police station would probably have to be on the main island or on a dock nearby, but many other things would be nice. I have a whole bunch of things I wish for. This game was a huge let down for me in all honesty and it's only about customization, not the life simulator it is. It's like we're on our own on our islands and don't have friends there because they just repeat the same things. I think a few food places would be nice for another island thing, because then our villagers could have favorites and we could possibly go on mini quests to get them some food and either grow closer or apart from them depending on what we got!
But Celeste also gives you trivia about the star fragments when you show them to her. I think that's really cute. You just have to talk to her again after getting the diy.
I feel so conflicted about new horizons. I'm happy and I love the graphics, crafting, terraforming and all the customization options But they all but erased the village's personalities and dialogue and I have this feeling that the game's characteristic charm is absent because of it
Well, looks like Isabelle received a huge buff in the 2.0 update. Not only can she do ordinances, but her announcements are no longer bad. Now, if there is no news on holiday events or camps, she will instead tell you which special NPC has arrived on your island. You no longer have to check yourself on who has arrived and no longer have to hear Isabelle talk about her socks for the millionth time. I think it's safe to say she is helpful now.
I don't see the fuss, when I played Wild World I was pretty young and yet I never felt like Resetti was scary or anything, annoying at most for all he said, but I ended up liking to see him sometimes. Brewster *sighs* I miss him, I also wish Celeste could get the observatory back .
I feel like kicks has become so EXTREMELY boring. He used to be on of my favorites because of his origins but know there is absolutely Nothing interesting about him. Same with Leif who IS my favorite ac character
I miss brewster and making constellations :( I loved the idea of creating drawings in the sky... And brewster was a nice pigeon and Celeste deserves her observatory back! As a kid I hated Mr resetti, but now I miss him... He was funny and taught me to always save the game hahaha
I feel like I'm the only one who misses Jack. I loved his role in New leaf and I found it super fun! But I'm scared for the October update I feel as if his character might be ruined...
I'm surprised I never see anyone else mention it but I think Sable got a massive downgrade in personality. Everyone loved Sable in the old games because you had to work hard to get her to come out her shyness and open up to you and when she did, you wanted to keep talking to her because it was interesting hearing about her past and she had lots of interesting stories and these stories could be happy and cute or genuinely sad and heartfelt depending on what mood she was in and gave us such an insight into her character. Now however, as with all the New Horizons characters, she's just happy all the time. She has very few interesting stories and mostly just says the same thing over and over. She no longer has any real character and I only talk to her everyday out of obligation. Truly sad though because she was such a brilliant character before and now she just feels like a robot.
5:29 I have to disagree with this one I think its very important and used a lot for other people a bunch of people use this to make sense and mini movies and use it to show of a mod for a villager they made etc but it's definitely not as used for everyone but still useful for those that do Edit: oh and also Brewster is back as well as the other missing ones 🥳
Harvey’s cabin is honestly been a disappointment aside from the wedding part. They need regular photo events there. Isabell I definitely agree with, like please give the girl at least a weather report, as for some of the others I hope the bring them back or give them some new roles as the updates come in
We all know Gulliver was at his worst in Pocket Camp. If you don't know, he washes up onto the island, asking for directions on where to go, but in order to go, you have to give him 10 pieces of furniture in order to I guess fuel the boat. So he's taking our valuable furniture and burning it to develop fuel. Then, after the next day, he will give you a gift. It isn't a cool treasure from an international country. It's A PIECE OF CANDY. Also: I wish that Isabelle would tell you who the visitor of the day was. I know that isn't much, but it would help a lot. I would always have to run around to find them.
Reece and Cyrus I loved going to re tail in new leaf and I was extremely disappointed when I realised they were only coming back for a wedding even that I only did once or twice
I never really liked Isabelle. She came into the series WELL into the softening of the series. As such, she never did much of anything but be a cinnamon roll. Cinnamon rolls are great, but I just never really got attached to her.
Resetti should've been in charge of construction work like building/demolishing bridges and inclines or moving buildings. You would still talk to Tom Nook to start the projects but he then calls up Resetti to plan out the details. And maybe Resetti shows up the next morning like "Hey, check out the new thing we finished!".

I MISS THE OBSERVATORY so much !!! Honestly was my favourite part of wild world, I feel like she should have a permanent spot in the museum in the observatory where u can get more info about star fragments, create constellations and give u info on upcoming meteor showers (as I always get stressed about missing them!)
Loved this video! I'm really missing Reese and Cyrus, and think that even their same roles from new leaf would be really welcome, or at the least Reese running an auction area, while Cyrus can customize 'uncustomizables', and make larger furniture like in Pocket Camp? Not to mention NPCs that haven't made it yet, or have become visitors as opposed to shop owners. Honestly I miss having all the NPCs/shops on my island all the time the most :(
i dont wanna say i hate the game but i almost do. new horizons just feels watered down, theres nothing to do, the characters are just kinda there and you cant really talk to them more, and everything is so repetitive. i wish there could be some more personality to the game :(
I think Isabelle should only do the morning announcement IF there’s actually something to announce. So if there wasn’t any news, you’d just immediately start the game without having to hear about her damn personal life
Random thought, what if Isabelle had dialogue for the island visitors. At least that would broaden what she says....so, if she doesn't have any news, she could say.... Daisy Mae or Saharah: "I did see a merchant wandering around the island. They might have something interesting to buy." Leif, Kicks or Mabel (initially): "I saw someone in the plaza. It looked like they had a stall there - I wonder what's for sale?" Label: "I saw somebody in the plaza. She was talking about fashion...I'm curious to know what she wants." Gulliver or Gullivarrr: "I heard reports of someone laying on the beach. I hope they're alright. The beach wouldn't be my first choice to take a nap." Redd: "I heard reports that a strange boat is docked at the Northern side of the island. Be careful...it could be a trap." C.J. or Flick: "I saw someone wandering around the island. He seemed to be most fascinated in the local fauna. I don't blame him - the wildlife is spectacular." K.K.: "Is anyone planning on attending K.K. Slider's concert on the plaza tonight? I feel like rover is the MOST downgraded character in acnh, he went from being the first character you saw in new leaf, to being restricted to 1 DAY IN A WHOLE YEAR!!! He could be in a future cafe update, where he could appear once in a while to give you travel diys or give you a task to do for furniture!
That’s fair. I mostly wanted to stick to characters that you still see often though , since otherwise the list would have a bunch of one-off characters like Rover, Reese, etc.

I loved how in City Folk Rover would be the one to greet you and get you into the game(like Isabelle in New Leaf). He’s always been my favorite NPC
I feel like Isabelle has been downgraded in New Horizons because she really took the spotlight in New Leaf and Tom Nook didn’t do as much. So it’s understandable is having her not do as much.
Hopefully in the future, she can mention if a special character is on the island or come out of Residents Services more for future holidays.
Yup. A downgraded Isabelle was a sacrifice I was willing to make for an upgraded Nook. It’s unfortunate, but I’ve learned to accept it.
Also in New Leaf there was a event in February which was Groundhog Day. So maybe Resetti and Don can run this event for like a February update but I’m not sure.
She can be less of importance while not being annoying. You already have to wait forever for the game to boot up and then for the announcements to boot up, only for her to tell useless stuff.
I just find it ironic, because everyone loved Isabelle, the kind hearted workaholic. Everyone thought she deserved her vacation. Now she's got her vacation and she feels like a new character because her personality is flipped once you get past "sweetness".

But the many things it's lacking that were there in other games just doesn't make it good. That’s because, there is a set time, let’s say it’s 1 minute. You take 30 seconds to log off, it them will take another 30 seconds to load when you go back on. If you don’t want to wait next time, take longer exiting the game.
You should also add all the characters who were literally replaced by furniture items or become temporary visitors.
Cyrus and Reese? Replaced along with their shop 'Re-Tail' by DIY tables. Harriet? Replaced along with her shop 'Shampoodle' by mirrors. The pelicans who ran the post office? Replaced by the small post box inside the airport.
And now, Leif and Kicks don't even have their own shops. And judging by the datamine, Brewster won't be having his cafe either.
Plenty of interesting special characters and buildings missing. It's funny and sad because this game emphasises on terraforming, but lacks furniture variety and special buildings.
This game feels more like an island decorator instead of an island life simulator.

I think that you should be able to change what music plays on your island..for example by talking to Isabelle, you could change the Acnh 9pm tune to the 9pm tune from new leaf, or city folk,etc.

I kinda wish that there was a mute button for the background music so that you can place radios and such around your island and still hear that but not have the background music interfere. It can be pretty annoying depending what mood you're looking for on your island.
We need villager upgrade because my villagers sound like broken records rather than real friends who love to talk to you, visit you, send letters to you and have them simply hang out.

i think celeste should visit on the first of every month (meteor shower or not) so you can make new constellations that appear every so often throughout the month! it’d add more diversity to her speech because (possibly) whenever she shows on a meteor night she can chat about the stars and your new constellations!

I honestly think one of the biggest flaws when it comes to New horizons is the lack of personality and dialogue to play 'safe'. too many attention on details, effects and seasons made the other way around when it came to that and it really makes me sad as it gets really boring sometimes
This entire video speaks deeply to my heart. I love NH. I have played it for a very unhealthy 1000h by now. However, I'm so sad by how so many legacy characters were left by the wayside. There's always hope of their return but the wedding event with Cyrus and Reese barely did them justice. I loved how many non-villager characters New Leaf had and while I don't mind Gulliver and Gullivarrr that much, I'm so sad about Resetti. He is not even visible and can't be called to Harv... whose island I mainly use for planning out rooms. And to throw "Goodbye Parties" for villagers who move out. I'm also really sad about how many characters were lost due to the Dodos and a postcard stand. A lot of quality of life updates sadly came at the cost of beloved characters.
I’m honestly not a big fan of this game compared to New Leaf. It just feels empty. I know they’ll keep adding updates for holidays and stuff, but if they’re like anything we’ve gotten so far (Bunny Day) I’m not looking forward to it. I’m just not a fan of the updates in general. Most of them have just added stuff that was in previous games. If it’s NEW Horizons then the stuff it should be adding should be NEW.
Sadly I feel the same way. I still play New Horizons but I’m just bummed out that the game feels so empty.

Honestly, seeing how the updates are and how good the fall update looks is giving me hope. I honestly think this is going to be the best Animal Crossing. Getting back into it after a while, I’m really enjoying myself. My villagers seem to have new dialogue as well.

I personally prefer Gulliver & Celeste in this game. I didn't like having to look up the answers for Gulliver in New Leaf (yes, I am that uncultured), and this is the first game where I actually give a crap about Celeste at all because I want those DIYs. I also enjoy that she tells about the Zodiac signs if you bring her the items/fragments relating to them; much, MUCH more interesting than standing around the museum.
I feel Leif has been done dirty. He used to have his own shop and now he's a random visitor, whaaaat? I kinda feel similar about Label, too. But Isabelle and Resetti do have to be the most painful downgrades. Listening to Isabelle add insult to the no-announcements injury every day with her repetitive dialog is really making me dislike her...I don't wanna dislike her.

That aspect of someone making the town function whenever you're gone, along with cute moments used to show game progress (like seeing her fall asleep unlocked the option to build the dream suite), really cemented her as an endearing character.

He used to have such a fun role taking the form of other characters and being able to bring villagers into your town, now he’s just an annoying side quest

Since tortimer island was removed Lloid only has one role which is unfortunately his least interesting role, being a donations box
However I do actually really like Harv’s Island more than most people, the wedding event is one of my favourites, it’s a great way to create fun screenshots, especially when you bring villagers and NPCs into it, and you can get them to do exactly what you want so you don’t have to worry about them walking away like you would when taking photos on your island, but mainly a lot of people have created animal crossing mini movies with harvs island which are very entertaining and cool to watch, so overall I definately think it’s a good feature

I was really hopping he'd come back with the RVs and we could rent one. And also be able to see Random NPCs in his campsite
I think the most disappointing one not on this list is Reese and Cyrus. I mean I did enjoy the wedding event in June. I thought it was cute how you took wedding photos of them for their anniversary, and I loved the wedding items you got from Cyrus in exchange for the heart crystals that Reese rewarded you with for taking the photos, but I would have rather had Re-Tail back. It felt more convenient having two stores to sell things at, plus if you were still playing the game at 10 PM after Nook's Cranny was closed, Re-Tail was still open for that hour. I liked being able to sell items there and see villagers buy them. It was also convenient having Cyrus re-paint various furniture items (which you can't even do with the customization kits for most of them) and make clam shell music boxes (something I'm surprised hasn't been brought back as a DIY recipe since with the giant clams and K.K. Slider albums, the materials are there and all that's missing is the DIY recipe.)
Dr. Shrunk and Harriet (I honestly have no idea how or if they can bring anything to New Horizons)

Reese and Cyrus also had a HUGE downgrade. In New Leaf, they ran Re-Tail and you could customize items. However, in New Horizons... they are just used for Wedding Season, which the event itself is boring and repetitive.
BUT, the reason could be because of the ability to craft things. They could at least also have a better role in the game.
Rover also had a downgrade because in the older games, he would be the one you first meet. But in New Horizons, he is seen only one time, and that is on May Day.
Nintendo could at least try and fix that.

I feel like Celeste did get a slight upgrade, instead of just being in a museum and doing nothing in New Leaf, now she walks around your island and gives you recipes for astrology inspired furniture. It's not as good as she used to have in games before, but at least it's an upgrade from New Leaf

Its sad to see some absolutely beloved characters lose their worth, I hope Nintendo can pull it back in the next year or so. New horizons has so much potential to be even better. But Nintendo has yet to give us any of the big features we really want.

It’s so disappointing to see these characters lack in personality, appearance, and existence in the game itself. The worst part is that Nintendo doesn’t plan to do anything for these characters either.
I’ve only ever used the damn feature once in my 300 hours of play time when I got stuck while terraforming. Smh.

I think she's the most cutest, friendliest, helpful and hardworking character of the Animal Crossing franchise, and honestly, without her, our towns in New Leaf would be a fucking train wreck. No one cares that you cares that you finished a crossword puzzle, that you found your favorite sock behind your washer, etc. Like, if she was saying those things once and said new things during the broadcast when there isn't any announcements, that would be much better and less annoying.
Also, I have Pros and Cons of New Horizons, and one my biggest cons are the villagers lacking personality and repeating the same dialogue everyday. Like, come on, Nintendo! If you had your villagers with great and funny personality in your past AC games, why not put it in this one? Now, I think one reason is why Nintendo did this is probably because they were worried that kids might get upset when their favorite villager gets angry at them and says hurtful things. That I can understand because I would honestly feel the same way. But, why do you have to suck out their entire personalities because of that? But who knows, maybe in future updates they will bring back personalities for the villagers and non-resident animal characters.
I still love New Horizons a lot, and I think I got a lot done in it than I have with New Leaf, but I would love it a lot more if they could maybe bring more life and personalities into their characters just like from their past games.
I would be fine with isabelle telling us things we don’t care about if it was like once every few days and if it didn’t repeat. That way I would probably find it much cuter than having to read something over and over every damn day

Gulliver was always such a delight in New Leaf. Something about his questions testing your real-world geography skills was really fun, and he was probably one of my favorite special characters in the game.
In New Horizons though... yeah, his minigame is an absolute chore to me. Not even kidding, there are times where I just... left him on the beach without talking to him. Like, all he wants you to do is slowly walk up and down the beach looking for communicator parts, which I personally find pretty boring.
And Gullivarr is just... basically that but in the water. Woo.

Villagers convos and personalities have been downgraded
Furniture has been downgraded. Thousands less items in this game than others means nearly every dream island I visit is similar
Villager houses all contain the same furniture for the most part, and some are almost empty
Only 4 fruits in this game
Villagers are way less interactive and will spout the same exact lines every single time you speak to them
Villagers talking non stop about tourneys, HHA visits, etc.
Game is a literal bore for me. Its basically just a villager collector with no substance.
There do 6 fruits tho including coconuts. Tbh i don't mind since we have more flower options

I really miss the variety of shops and businesses, just having the main shop and the clothing shop feels a bit flat when compared to the variety we’ve had in previous versions of the game.

He still yells at you. If you reset or forget to save the game a certain amount of times hes still himself. In new leaf i mean. Though after you make him raise his blood pressure you have to see his brother or cousin Don. Yeah he and Don are nicer as you said. With Sonny (Chubby mole ressetti) hes nicer only if you visit him.

It’s so sad but this time around all the characters bore me including NPC’s, I try enjoy the dialogue sometimes then it’s so repetitive and i get so bored so i just zoom around avoiding everyone
CRYING I miss new leaf...I am actually going to invest in a new 3ds and a new copy of the game, plus all of the online features are still up and running.

I think Kicks is downgraded, I mean in city folk i'm pretty sure he was homeless. Then in New leaf he got his own show! Now in new horizons he is a vendor at a booth. Mabel did the same thing early on in the game and I thought that the same would happen to kicks.... but oh was I wrong!
It would be great if Isabelle told us who the special visitior is on our island during her morning announcement. That way you would know to look out for them 😄
New leaf: Isabelle is super helpful, the best character, and the game would be unplayable without her
New horizons: ughhhhhh where are all the USEFUL features? And NO I do NOT care about a new episode of a show you like
Honestly the villagers have the most downgrade. I know they weren’t included but it’s sad on how much the dialogue has change. I love lazies and currently have three but it feels like every time I just get an echo of conversation from them
I feel like Celeste has been on a slow downgrade since Wild World/City Folk, she used to have her own little observatory where you could make constellations and see them in your town's sky as well as being able to see a friend's constellations if you went to their town, then in New Leaf she sold items on the 2nd floor of the museum and helped you build exhibits. Now all she does is walk around during a meteor shower to give you a DIY recipe...

At this point I would've wanted to build an observatory, a cafe, re-tail, police station and club lol but I have no space for all of these stores anymore
That's why I think they should give you an option to buy another island for a "city" area- the police station would probably have to be on the main island or on a dock nearby, but many other things would be nice. I have a whole bunch of things I wish for. This game was a huge let down for me in all honesty and it's only about customization, not the life simulator it is. It's like we're on our own on our islands and don't have friends there because they just repeat the same things. I think a few food places would be nice for another island thing, because then our villagers could have favorites and we could possibly go on mini quests to get them some food and either grow closer or apart from them depending on what we got!
But Celeste also gives you trivia about the star fragments when you show them to her. I think that's really cute. You just have to talk to her again after getting the diy.

I feel so conflicted about new horizons. I'm happy and I love the graphics, crafting, terraforming and all the customization options
But they all but erased the village's personalities and dialogue and I have this feeling that the game's characteristic charm is absent because of it
I remember playing City Folk and I didnt save in purpose so I could see him scream a new line everyday, until Don said he had an attack or something
Well, looks like Isabelle received a huge buff in the 2.0 update. Not only can she do ordinances, but her announcements are no longer bad. Now, if there is no news on holiday events or camps, she will instead tell you which special NPC has arrived on your island. You no longer have to check yourself on who has arrived and no longer have to hear Isabelle talk about her socks for the millionth time. I think it's safe to say she is helpful now.
I don't see the fuss, when I played Wild World I was pretty young and yet I never felt like Resetti was scary or anything, annoying at most for all he said, but I ended up liking to see him sometimes. Brewster *sighs* I miss him, I also wish Celeste could get the observatory back .

Each character is bland. It’s just a happy smiling face. No personality like being mean, cocky, or even a jokester.
If I would have a happy face, or a blank canvas, I will choose the canvas, because at least any face can be painted here.

I'm surprised I never see anyone else mention it but I think Sable got a massive downgrade in personality.
Everyone loved Sable in the old games because you had to work hard to get her to come out her shyness and open up to you and when she did, you wanted to keep talking to her because it was interesting hearing about her past and she had lots of interesting stories and these stories could be happy and cute or genuinely sad and heartfelt depending on what mood she was in and gave us such an insight into her character.
Now however, as with all the New Horizons characters, she's just happy all the time. She has very few interesting stories and mostly just says the same thing over and over. She no longer has any real character and I only talk to her everyday out of obligation. Truly sad though because she was such a brilliant character before and now she just feels like a robot.

5:29 I have to disagree with this one I think its very important and used a lot for other people a bunch of people use this to make sense and mini movies and use it to show of a mod for a villager they made etc but it's definitely not as used for everyone but still useful for those that do

Harvey’s cabin is honestly been a disappointment aside from the wedding part. They need regular photo events there. Isabell I definitely agree with, like please give the girl at least a weather report, as for some of the others I hope the bring them back or give them some new roles as the updates come in

We all know Gulliver was at his worst in Pocket Camp. If you don't know, he washes up onto the island, asking for directions on where to go, but in order to go, you have to give him 10 pieces of furniture in order to I guess fuel the boat. So he's taking our valuable furniture and burning it to develop fuel. Then, after the next day, he will give you a gift. It isn't a cool treasure from an international country. It's A PIECE OF CANDY.
Also: I wish that Isabelle would tell you who the visitor of the day was. I know that isn't much, but it would help a lot. I would always have to run around to find them.
Reece and Cyrus I loved going to re tail in new leaf and I was extremely disappointed when I realised they were only coming back for a wedding even that I only did once or twice
I never really liked Isabelle. She came into the series WELL into the softening of the series. As such, she never did much of anything but be a cinnamon roll. Cinnamon rolls are great, but I just never really got attached to her.
Resetti should've been in charge of construction work like building/demolishing bridges and inclines or moving buildings.
You would still talk to Tom Nook to start the projects but he then calls up Resetti to plan out the details.
And maybe Resetti shows up the next morning like "Hey, check out the new thing we finished!".
The fact after 2.0 Harvey’s upgrade is 10x better lol

I MISS THE OBSERVATORY so much !!! Honestly was my favourite part of wild world, I feel like she should have a permanent spot in the museum in the observatory where u can get more info about star fragments, create constellations and give u info on upcoming meteor showers (as I always get stressed about missing them!)
Loved this video! I'm really missing Reese and Cyrus, and think that even their same roles from new leaf would be really welcome, or at the least Reese running an auction area, while Cyrus can customize 'uncustomizables', and make larger furniture like in Pocket Camp? Not to mention NPCs that haven't made it yet, or have become visitors as opposed to shop owners. Honestly I miss having all the NPCs/shops on my island all the time the most :(

I think Isabelle should only do the morning announcement IF there’s actually something to announce. So if there wasn’t any news, you’d just immediately start the game without having to hear about her damn personal life
