Okay I looked this up, and apparently Brominated vegetable oil used to be an ingredient, but was removed in 2014. However, in 1977 the FDA reconsidered the substance’s safety to be safe if used “on an interim basis”, provided it is kept under amounts of 15 parts per million. Fortunately, most beverages that contain this ingredient use even less at around 8 parts per million. And both PepsiCo and CocaCola removed this ingredient in 2014. Hope this helps. 👍
So like the ice cream thing wjere the sugar will kill you faster and folks panic at the sound of it but the risk compared to other ingredients is minimal? Sounds about right lol
@@jonahf.277 oh you mean like the fact that the FDA has a tolerance limit for animal feces in food? Sorry but the American food industry is pure bs. It shouldn't contain ANY of those. And i would definitely not trust anything that tells you different. Greetings from a food inspector in Germany
Japan making stuff illegal for preservatives is wild, they have some of the craziest preservatives that are banned in most countries. Big part of vending machine culture.
Japan has had one of the healthiest populations in the world for decades. Always ranked among the top in terms of life expectancy for decades. The US is never up there. Much of what is banned in the US is due to lobbying and funded "research" by big corporations.
@anthonylam8411 I think it has more to do with 2 factors: First, these are largely newly allowed things in Japan (last decade or so) there hasn't begun to be a significant health impact but many of the preservatives allowed have been definitely shown to be carcinogenic in the long term. Second, Japan has a culture of not letting people eat to much, or get really fat. There is so much research that shows your body's ability to process toxins, free-radicals, and carcinogens is significantly improved by not being obese. It can be true that obesity is the #1 health concern in the US, and at the same time, the preservatives and coloring common in much of Japan's new vending machine foods are carcinogenic and unhealthy. Both can be true.
@Bombsuitsandkilts MSG is one of those additives that has been around for decades that, although not banned in the US, has always had a bad rep in the West. There has been numerous research "proving the toxicity" of MSG since the 60s in the US. People in Japan consume MSG as an additive in small doses daily and have been doing so for almost a century.
@Bombsuitsandkilts Also, Japan's vending machine culture is not new. It's been around for many decades. If the additives do, in fact, have carcinogenic properties more so than what is allowed in the US, then we should look at the data on cancer rates. Look it up. All these go to show, it's not that the Japanese are crazy and consume toxic additives and therefore have more occurrences of cancer or a higher mortality rate. It's cultural. That's what needs to be looked at in the US, instead of banning things that are safe in small doses and allow you to live largely disease free until you're 95.
Yet they aren't there up the list of cancer and obesity. Most of the high cases are depressioninstead. Maybe we haven't look it up further. And the vending machine culture is so old we can already see the effects of it through numbers of health cases for preservatives
Those first two food in Canada are made differently, cost more and people here complain about the price difference. I point out that it's often cheap in the US because they don't restrict ingredients that cause health problems.
Correct. That was in 1990 and 1991 and then they banned it in 1992. The consuming of it is not illegal but the selling of it is. If you consume it, it is highly advisable to throw it away in a tissue or better yet in the same wrapper. I buy chewing gums from Malaysia and the Black Market and sell them here.
Brominated vegetable oil is no longer present in Mountain Dew. It was used to stabilize the citrus flavoring of sodas and prevent it from separating out. Also, BHT is a preservative that is safe in low concentrations - as it is used in various food and cosmetic products. To be clear, there are plenty of chemicals that the EU bans but US allows, and still more that the US bans but EU allows. Food/cosmetic fearmongering is not cool.
Mountain Dew DOESN’T contain BVO (brominated vegetable oil) anymore. It was removed in 2019 by Pepsi Co. Although, that was the reason the other countries banned it in the past.
As a singaporean, you got the gum theory wrong. You can still eat gum, but you cannot spit it, if you do you might get fined a large sum of money. You also cannot sell gum. 100% illegal
Correction everything except: Certain cheeses Kinder eggs Haggis, if it's made the traditional way(in a sheeps lungs) Fresh black pudding Farm-raised salmon
Bromine is literally toxic but the FDA approved brominated vegetable oil, just to make drinks cloudy to suspend coloring; the red 40 and yellow 5 that is also carcinogenic and banned elsewhere.
note: chewing gum isn’t completely illegal in singapore, only the buying and selling of chewing gum is! you can buy it from another country, bring it back, and even give some to your friend (for free, that is) and that isn’t against the law :D

Mountain dew isnt illegal here in Sweden. You can find it in evrey store
different recipe
Kinda like Fanta, the recipe is completely changed to allow it to be sold.
Ja en till svensk
Ja
Nope, I lived on Sweden my whole life and never seen a single mountain drew.
@Bombsuitsandkilts
MSG is one of those additives that has been around for decades that, although not banned in the US, has always had a bad rep in the West. There has been numerous research "proving the toxicity" of MSG since the 60s in the US.
People in Japan consume MSG as an additive in small doses daily and have been doing so for almost a century.
@Bombsuitsandkilts
Also, Japan's vending machine culture is not new.
Currently its legal to chew gum in Singapore but you must dispose it responsibly. However, selling gum in the country is prohibited. 🇸🇬

About to write this comment. Good thing I found it
True can confirm
i heard in singapore , chewing gum was banned due to it being stuck being train doors, shutting down the whole train system.
@@iMoreno thanks for confirming!
@@iMorenocorrecto you can consume it, it’s just that you can’t sell it
@@Gravy2006 if I'm not wrong you also cannot but it here
As a Singaporean, it’s only illegal to sell or buy
yeah it can be brought in from outside
As a European(I'm from the UK) we don't have frosted flakes it's self but we have frosted bars so frosted flakes with honey and milk there so good 🤤
Got a friend who drinks Mountain Dew almost daily, sometimes he can’t remember the losses he had in video games and he still thinks I made those up XD
i love how he just gives up and proceeds to cut out half of cancer😭😭
Brominated vegetable oil is no longer present in Mountain Dew. It was used to stabilize the citrus flavoring of sodas and prevent it from separating out. Also, BHT is a preservative that is safe in low concentrations - as it is used in various food and cosmetic products.
To be clear, there are plenty of chemicals that the EU bans but US allows, and still more that the US bans but EU allows.
Food/cosmetic fearmongering is not cool.
Here in Sweden MTN Dew isn’t even banned
No, I didn't know that. Weird how Mt. Dew is still in every grocerys shelf here in Europe.
He probably meant that the american one is banned, since they have different ingredients.
It's been changed obviously
They change the recipe for the European market
The original mountain dew from the USA is banned. Here in Europe it's an altered recipe.
Mountain Dew DOESN’T contain BVO (brominated vegetable oil) anymore. It was removed in 2019 by Pepsi Co. Although, that was the reason the other countries banned it in the past.
also now it's not banned in japan
@@ГригорийВовненко-и3й that'd be why like in Europe Japan likely has the name on it as "mountain dew" instead of "mtn dew".

As a singaporean, you got the gum theory wrong. You can still eat gum, but you cannot spit it, if you do you might get fined a large sum of money. You also cannot sell gum. 100% illegal

What about kinder eggs?
The Breaking bad joke with the Bromine 💀
Bromine is literally toxic but the FDA approved brominated vegetable oil, just to make drinks cloudy to suspend coloring; the red 40 and yellow 5 that is also carcinogenic and banned elsewhere.
note: chewing gum isn’t completely illegal in singapore, only the buying and selling of chewing gum is! you can buy it from another country, bring it back, and even give some to your friend (for free, that is) and that isn’t against the law :D
Actually, it’s not illegal to chew gum here in Singapore, it’s illegal to sell it.
You dont eat mountain dew,you drink it
Bro i swear in every college in France there’s chewing gum under every single table and even the CHAIRS😭

Mountain Dew doesn’t contain Bromine anymore. Mountain Dew removed brominated vegetable oil a couple of years ago in 2022.

We do actually have kellogs here jn europe but the product is still called different for example: frosted flakes is frosties in my country
"Butalytine whatever. I didn't study law for 4 years for going back to this."
It's the ingredients were banned not the food and beverage itself except for chewing gum which is illegal in Singapore.
IT'S NOT, THE SELLING OF BUBBLE GUM IS, NOT EATING THE PRODUCT
"Mountain Dew is banned in Europe" excuse me? I'm from Romania and here you can find Mountain Dew in every glosery shop
