24:04 That Pharros Lockstone does indeed do something, it's one of the few "trap" devices in the game. You see that slot in the wall beside it? If you're a good little hollow, you stand in front of the device and wait for the illusory wall to start glowing. If you do, a saw blade comes out of that slot and hits you. That's about it.
If one thing can be said to the benefit of DS2 in terms of SL1 runs, is there are a lot of items that give stat boosts. Like, a LOT of items, more than any of the others if I remember right
ds2 has like 3x the amount of stat boosting items that the other games do. there is consumables for every damage stat, rings for every stat (except adp), and a lot more
I know this is an old comment but there is an Adp ring, it's called simpleton's ring, it makes your rolls invisible, but, more importantly, gives a whopping +5 adp
The main pain with this run A: No adaptability (horrendous healing) B: No adaptability (No dodge I-frames) C: NO ADAPTABILITY. (Edit) Holy COW this video was 2 months ago!? ..Damn Time flies

IMO the best way to deal with the Frigid Outskirts is to use either the Greatclub + stone ring or just the Old Knight Hammer (no stone ring needed). With that you can just stunlock the horses to death with the heavy attack.
In case it helps for future videos, you can play offline by having your firewall block specifically dark souls 2, or just killing your internet connection completely of course. I preferred the firewall method so I didn't have to mess with my internet every time I started up.

I’m currently doing my first ever sl1 runs of all the souls games, I’m about to finish up ds1….not looking forward to this one but I’ve made up my mind that I’m doing it lol
I really enjoy watching Dark Souls 2 content, more than I like playing it (I kinda enjoy playing it as well, but watching it sure is sweet for some reason... The lack of content of it around sure is a shame), Very glad you're doing it. Also, man, I really feel Scholar of First sin makes the game worse, so really, my condolences playing it on lvl 1.
Ds2 was pain, especially since I also decided to only use fists weapons, meaning I COULDNT WIELD THE CAESTUS UNTIL I GOT TO BRUME TOWER (needed the strength ring)! Yes, I could have two handed one caestus, but that looks silly, the only real way is to duel wield them (fashion is more important), and I could have used the conquerors seal, but didn't feel like farming 50 awestones (which I eventually did have to do for Burnt Ivory King and Lud and Zallen). Pain, pure pain.
What people forget about Dark Souls 2 are two things. One most if it's Problems (Hitboxes, etc.) are also present in other games and second, it has a NG+ that actually changes the game apart from enemies doing more damage and having more health. It is perfect. No, not by a long shot. But for me it stands one the same pedastal as Dark Souls 1 and 3. Slightly under Bloodborne, Elden Ring and Sekiro.
I absolutely LOVE that NG+ changes things, I know it's much extra work (or can be) but it really is something that should be considered if a game has NG+ Also agreed the other games also have bad hitboxes, but I feel like in DS2 they are at the worst. I'm not necessarily bagging on it here, but it's definitely the game I went "no, I call BS game" the most lol
The rest of the games have hitbox issues the difference lies with the fact that ds2 also has stats that affects your of all things so your rolls start up horrible So bad hitboxes mixed with the fact that you need a stat to roll properly makes ds2 stay above the rest by a very substantial large margin And while the Ng+ stuff is nice a lot of people will try ds2 once and never again because of all the bull this game has a game has to captivate people with their first playtrough in order to keep them there. And ds2 is by far the roughest first playtrough anyone can have in a fromsoft game
honestly dark souls 2 is my favorite of the dark souls games to play casually. Other than the adaptability stat, I have no major complaints about the gameplay or features.
I have a couple issues with some hit boxes being wildly off, but I agree. It's a great game and an overall great experience, I wish people didn't jump on the DS2 bad bandwagon
I'm impressed on how you managed to get invaded in SL1... My run took about 60h and half of them I was online and never got invaded. Also, you played much better than me, I got A LOT of deaths in the SL1.
i did a DS3 SL1 run ... was fun. but DS3 has consistent s. i cant imagine how infuriating this must have been you might also enjoy the "all stats at 1" run by Press Continue :) its basically a SL -46 run
@@DoomWolfOfficial i just watched the video again and noticed something: you can actually take the iron key even if the fire is still burning, you just need to be quick ;) also: you can play ds2 offline, just go into your firewall settings and block ds2 from accessing the internet. i do that with all fromsoft titles since i dont like the online aspect either. when there is no internet access ds2 wont go into the long connection loop either
@@xXRunDeathXx about the iron key, true, but mah progression! Lol And about DS2 offline, also true! But if you're on steam like me you can also just go offline in steam lol
Tbh, i never use the ring of binding. I would if they had made it do something else. Maybe let you keep a certain percentage of souls on death, hence "binding" the souls to you, or maybe every 100 kills or something like that acts to reduce 1 level of hollowing. You know, something to help reduce resource loss/consumption.
I'm enjoying this one. When I first played this game I started as the cleric so I had the mace early and stuck with it for the whole game I think, don't think I ever changed it. So it's interesting to see it's the weapon you wanted starting out.
I don’t if people know this or not but when you reach the stairs before sir alonne all the enemies stop chasing you because they physically can’t go down the stair but will still shoot arrows the only enemy you have to kill is the fat lizard blocking the way down
it didn't happen in my recording (it was back when I played the DLC the first time) but I have a vivid memory of thinking I was safe at the bottom of the stairs (near the fog wall) only to get stabbed in the back, so, idk my friend, maybe it was a fever dream lmao
Theres a few things I don't like about DS2, but one of the ones I didn't notice until playing through all of them is that in DS2 it feels like the bars hardly change when you put points in vigour and endurance, and honestly I hated that. I was so unsatisfying to level it up only to see my health bar look basically the same at 40 vigour as it did at 10. The only saving grace was how utterly broken the Flynn ring is, combined with how early you can get it. Seriously that ring was just THE most broken thing in the game, especially when paired with RoB +1 or 2, any tiny weapon instantly did ridiculous damage.
First time I got invaded I was helping the family with cleaning up. When I got back someone was throwing some weapon degrading probably poo cost me 20k to fix all my broken gear. That was my last time I’ll play ds2
I've played them all and enjoyed them but for me, maybe it was the time in my life I played it but Darksouls 1 was.... poignant. It had a beauty to it which I can't describe. Bleak. Lonely. Difficult. Striving only to strive more. In the end, for all the struggle there was no "winning" per se. The game/story (such as it was) was poetic.
that's a great summery of it my friend, and I felt the same way. The first time I ever played ds1 I remember feeling ...alone, and like I was part of a world that was long dead. like I was exploring the aftermath of some great shattering (hello elden ring lol). I don't know, but it was definitely enchanting in a dark way, and I loved it
@@DoomWolfOfficial You're kind to say so. I can relate to your description. I didn't get that feeling in DS2 or 3. Elden Ring just didn't speak to me. Played about half of it and quit. I tried Sekura but didn't like it at all. Played about a third of it. Maybe a quarter? DS1 really, really touched my soul. I played through it from the beginning (not NG+) many times. I have returned to it repeatedly over the years. The fighting mechanics of DS2 etal may be superior to DS1 but all of the DS games taken as a general mechanic were so very superior to any game I played before or since, everything was ruined for me. I was a huge fan of Skyrim before I played Darksouls. Went back to Skyrim... ruined for me.
Man, I say this every time I comment on your videos but your SoulsBorneKiroRing runs are awesome, no super pro at it, right to the point without being boring, and great comedic time
Ever tried getting into the fallout or resident evil series, maybe even tried to think of different ways of trying to beat sekiro, like instead of just using thrust attacks, you can use normal attacks but you cannot dodge, sure its not as hard as the thrust only no dodging challenge you did, but its good to have different variants considering sekiro is a game where you may not beat the game in all the ways like in every other souls game, but different variants on their own is fine, even if you have already done it before, it can still be fun. Oh wait, you are not the person who did the thrust only challenge, oh well, you can still try no dodging sekiro challenge
Lmao, Baron did thrust only. But anyway, I would like to do more sekiro videos, but as you said the game doesn't lend itself to a lot of options. Still I have a couple ideas planned
This is a little late, but if you are ever playing ds2 and want it to be offline what you need to do is just disconnect from your internet and launch ds2 while disconnected. That will start it in offline mode and after that you can turn back on your internet and still have videos or other things going on in the background.

I know a few people that absolutely LOVE it. I love the asymmetrical nature of it, but I just don't like playing against other people. The only game I pvp in is smash bros lol

Needless to say, my experience eating that burger was likely far more enjoyable than your experience in the Frigid Outskirts 😂
41:36 i first tried them on my first playthrough and they're not specifically hard but the duo u were talking about...OH BOY
Yeah I see people complain about them but throne duo never gave me issues, not even in the upcoming run where they had the biggest chance to lol
I knew you referenced jk leeds bc you added puns in left and right.
What can I say, the master of puns has influenced me lol
This was my first souls game and despite the hate I love it
It really is good and doesn't deserve the hate it gets
iirc only NPCs that actually have an invasion popup have a timer - NPCs that are technically ‘already there’ aren’t invaders
Fair, not something I would have encountered being perpetually offline lmao
I’m currently doing my first ever sl1 runs of all the souls games, I’m about to finish up ds1….not looking forward to this one but I’ve made up my mind that I’m doing it lol
that's fair, DS2 is just..its long, and the bosses aren't the hardest but at base ADP it's not fun lol
Ds2 is a video game in the souls franchise and that is all I will say on the topic
I agree
I really enjoy watching Dark Souls 2 content, more than I like playing it (I kinda enjoy playing it as well, but watching it sure is sweet for some reason... The lack of content of it around sure is a shame), Very glad you're doing it. Also, man, I really feel Scholar of First sin makes the game worse, so really, my condolences playing it on lvl 1.
Thanks glad you enjoy the video :)
Dark souls 2 saved my cat yesterday, thank you Dark souls 2.
This is the power of Dark souls 2, I hope your cat is okay!
how
I appreciate your mdb reference... nice. Great video.
glad people still get it haha
I love those kinds of videos, lucky to get that gem recommended!
Well I am glad you enjoyed it my friend :)
The noble's slender sword is the best weapon in Elden ring
its not bad thats for sure haha
Ds2 was pain, especially since I also decided to only use fists weapons, meaning I COULDNT WIELD THE CAESTUS UNTIL I GOT TO BRUME TOWER (needed the strength ring)! Yes, I could have two handed one caestus, but that looks silly, the only real way is to duel wield them (fashion is more important), and I could have used the conquerors seal, but didn't feel like farming 50 awestones (which I eventually did have to do for Burnt Ivory King and Lud and Zallen). Pain, pure pain.
That does sound rough! And agreed, fashion above functionality
I absolutely LOVE that NG+ changes things, I know it's much extra work (or can be) but it really is something that should be considered if a game has NG+
Also agreed the other games also have bad hitboxes, but I feel like in DS2 they are at the worst. I'm not necessarily bagging on it here, but it's definitely the game I went "no, I call BS game" the most lol
The rest of the games have hitbox issues the difference lies with the fact that ds2 also has stats that affects your of all things so your rolls start up horrible
So bad hitboxes mixed with the fact that you need a stat to roll properly makes ds2 stay above the rest by a very substantial large margin
And while the Ng+ stuff is nice a lot of people will try ds2 once and never again because of all the bull this game has a game has to captivate people with their first playtrough in order to keep them there.
And ds2 is by far the roughest first playtrough anyone can have in a fromsoft game
what i cant forget about ds2 is the horrible ganky enemy placement of SOFT
honestly dark souls 2 is my favorite of the dark souls games to play casually.
I'll trade you, I don't want to be invaded ever lol
@@DoomWolfOfficial well I despise PvP too so... xD
But I play offline mostly because the bloodstains sometimes annoy me
i love listening your videos while i drive to college, keep posting :)
I'm glad my friend :)
Love ds2 so happy you made a video over it! (Amazing vid btw)
DS2 is a great game, I wish more people would give it a chance!
Love your videos. I cant stop laughing. And i always learn something new. So thanks for that.
I'm glad you like them :)
Great job!
Thanks my friend :)
i did a DS3 SL1 run ... was fun.
but DS3 has consistent s. i cant imagine how infuriating this must have been
you might also enjoy the "all stats at 1" run by Press Continue :) its basically a SL -46 run
I've seen his video over it, it looks...quiet painful lol
@@DoomWolfOfficial i just watched the video again and noticed something: you can actually take the iron key even if the fire is still burning, you just need to be quick ;)
also: you can play ds2 offline, just go into your firewall settings and block ds2 from accessing the internet. i do that with all fromsoft titles since i dont like the online aspect either.
when there is no internet access ds2 wont go into the long connection loop either
@@xXRunDeathXx about the iron key, true, but mah progression! Lol
And about DS2 offline, also true!
I just never use effigies so it's the way out of being half dead for me lpl
I'm playing dark souls 2 for the first time and this video makes me feel like I can do it thank and keep up the great work
I believe in you my friend!
that ranged vendrick attack is actually only around a 5% chance! it's never happened in any of my games p cool to see :^)
I must be lucky then, iirc he did it twice but I only showed it once haha
Next One "can you beat DS2 without sitting at the bonefires"
If we are talking about classics challenge runs this Is perfect
yeahhhhh I don't mind not having those rings lmao
I'm enjoying this one. When I first played this game I started as the cleric so I had the mace early and stuck with it for the whole game I think, don't think I ever changed it. So it's interesting to see it's the weapon you wanted starting out.
The mace is strong, I just hate that range haha
Seriously that ring was just THE most broken thing in the game, especially when paired with RoB +1 or 2, any tiny weapon instantly did ridiculous damage.
yeah, playing through it again I also noticed at one point the bars don't look like they move much haha
First time I got invaded I was helping the family with cleaning up. When I got back someone was throwing some weapon degrading probably poo cost me 20k to fix all my broken gear. That was my last time I’ll play ds2
Oof that's unfortunate my friend, could have been the start of your DS2 villain arc lol
Gank squad on my SL1 playthrough gave me a cerebral hemorrhage (I hadn’t known about the ledge strat)
They were absolutely doing the same to me, honestly I don't want to ever fight them normally again lol
The one time a sponsor is actually interesting to me and I miss the sale by a mile 😐
Btw the content is awesome doom!
Sorry you missed the sale my friend D: and thanks for the kind words :)
Went back to Skyrim... ruined for me.
that was brutal. just so you know you missed a bonfire in the room with the spikes in the sunken king dlc
Not surprised lol every time I beat the game and look at the bonfire list and see several that I missed I just go "where???" haha
Man, I say this every time I comment on your videos but your SoulsBorneKiroRing runs are awesome, no super pro at it, right to the point without being boring, and great comedic time
I'm glad you enjoy the videos my friend :)
I just recently finished DS1-3 at SL1 and overall DS2 was probably the hardest but Soul of cinder was the hardest overall
I wonder if DS2 was because of ADP haha
I remember getting to the iron King when I was 12 years old at level 1 (I had no clue how to level up)
That's impressive though!
Iv platinum Elden ring so Iv gotta pick up the other fromsoft games at some point
So I guess you could say the will cost me extra
lmao, great one ;)
His intro is basically: hello everyone today im selling my soul to dark souls 2
isn't that what we all do when we play DS2? lmao
This is a little late, but if you are ever playing ds2 and want it to be offline what you need to do is just disconnect from your internet and launch ds2 while disconnected. That will start it in offline mode and after that you can turn back on your internet and still have videos or other things going on in the background.
hey thanks for the tip! I actually know you can do this (either by hard disconnecting the internet, or by steam to offline mode) i'm just lazy :P lol
You can use the ice rapier with a good combination of rings and armors, just enough to use it
Didn't that drop and I used it in this one? Or was that the other DS2 video I did lol
@@DoomWolfOfficial yeah you did use it, but I writed this before you did and didn't deleted it because im dumb
I’m drunk af but this is based, love you, it’s my favourite game!
DS2 is a great game, wish people would give it a chance instead of just thinking it's bad
also I hope you drink lots of water my friend! gotta avoid that hangover!
"knight zoolander" is an extraordinarily good joke and you deserve to feel proud of it 10/10
Thanks, I thought it was a funny joke lol
Good shit bro. Just subbed. Thanks for the content.
Glad you liked the video my friend :)
Sir alonne the attack you were struggling with I found out you can just walk back right and he will miss as long as you not super close to him
but...but he lunges at you to get super close to you lol
I've actually been a player to be summoned by looking glass knight and was really awesome!
I bet it would be cool to be summoned for it, never cool to be the one against it though haha
@@DoomWolfOfficial yeah it was cool, you have to invade at the central castle bonfire after twin dragonriders
@@DoomWolfOfficial Oh it definitely wasn't cool for the player fighting the boss cause I used to be decent at PVP HA, no mercy
14:48 "first up is everyone's favorite arachnid, Rachnera. If you got that reference, welcome fellow degenerate" I tip my hat to you, my fellow degenerate
m'degenerate lol
Interesting. I finally got myself laptop back and second game on my list is ds2 and a lot of yt creators posting this game as well. Nice run, I wouldn't want to do this game sl1.
Edit: first game was tales of berseria and I still have 8 achievements to 100% it... And they're just grind ones.
I don't blame you not wanting to do this at SL1 lol, i've never played any of the tales of games, would you recommend them?
so many people have a "i dont pvp" mindset with souls and its interesting to see considering one of the main draws for me to the original dark souls was its pvp.
I know a few people that absolutely LOVE it.
I love the asymmetrical nature of it, but I just don't like playing against other people. The only game I pvp in is smash bros lol
DS2 had it's faults, but at least magic worked and it had the best implimentation of the power stance mechanic ever done.
the sword Blue Flame also helps XD
Magic worked, I think you mean magic not broken lol
There's no way in hell, that I would ever do this challenge 😅 that being said, you have my true respect 😅
Don't recommend it lol, or rather, don't recommend the DLC, base game wasn't so bad
Smooth video, well presented. Cheers from Germany
Thanks my friend, glad you enjoyed it :)
Not gonna lie, you got me with the subscribe button.
Glad you liked that bit :)
I just beat ds2 for the first time a few days ago
It's not as bad as people say, is it?
It's a great game, isn't it!
Ninja gaiden 3 razors edge ultimate ninja mode literally broke me ❤️
That's...fair lol
Moom look, doom is back and he's posting
haha, hope you enjoyed it :)
U deserve more bru u care abt your subs a lot u should have 1million
Thanks for the kind words my friend :) I'm just glad people enjoy the videos haha
1:40 wow playing dark souls 1 before doing this challenge and forgot how to jump in ds2😂
It happens to the best of us lol
@@DoomWolfOfficial me finish ds3 without upgrading weapons and every boss I defeat with weapon than I can't use the weapon forever and no armor
