Kringle is eaten around Christmas and in my family it is common to bring them to parties as a dish. My favourite flavor is apple. The filling is very similar to apple pie. My family eats them as a dessert, not so much as breakfast.
Kringle is actually the word for the pretzel shape, but is also used in these large Danishes. We don't have pecans so it would normally be with remonce(a sugar and butter filling) or custard and with raisins or maybe toasted chopped almonds inside.s And some of them also have sugar and chopped almonds on top instead of the frosting( those are the best in my opinion) Not all Kringle is the same as the puff pastry version., some are yeast raised and traditionally they are proofing packed in a cloth and suspended in a bucket of cold water while they are proofing Velbekomme would be the Danish word for Bon appetite and is used both before a meal and also when someone says: tak for mad (thank you for the food) to the cook after the meal has been eaten
+SugarCharmShop same, you'd have kringle with some kind of surgar, chopped hazelnuts and almonds on top, not pecans. usually the filling isn't like that too
+SugarCharmShop True, but that's because this is a Danish-American adaptation of a kringle. In Wisconsin (and also Seattle, Washington), it's fairly common to mix nuts of some kind into the remonce filling for a kringle, or even raisins or other chopped fruits.
Who could give her a thumbsdown!?I am always watching these videos and getting insperation to cook and expand my taste buds! For instance I ran to my local Asian market to get ingredients for Mochi and a Grass jelly drink that I tweeted about earlier today.I don't know,I just find her a very sweet, cool, person and her videos make me so happy! Thanks Emmy!
Right?? I ordered flour off of amazon for the mochi. I live in Arizona and spent a 110 degree day making it. Probably not the best idea I ever had but I sure had fun and ohhhh what a mess!!!!!!
I've lived in WI my entire life, have eaten many a kringle & have yet to get tired of them. They are delish & even better when they are fresh from the bakery. Cheese and raspberry are my favorites.
I grew up on these and they are to die for and pecan is the best. This is the only place to get an authentic Danish Kringle. I love them and want one right now. My mom grew up in Racine, Ws. :)
I love your blog's! I always watch all the way to the end because I love your goofiness! Your always informative without being boring! You make my day!
Thx Emmy. I'll share with all my danish friends(country men) and I'm sure they will love the way you handle the tasting of one of our most loved treats.
Okay, so I am Danish and I am a baker in training and work in a bakery in my hometown, and I know that Christian Olesen is probably Danish or of Danish descent, but first of all (I paused the video and read what was on the back) it does not take 3 days to make the pastry, so either they use false marketing or they take ridiculously long to make it and the only nuts we use (as topping) is either hazelnut flakes og almond flakes with pearl sugar and that is only if we don't put icing on top, and that you there is not a kringle, a kringle is shaped like a pretzel, although it looked like they had achieved the flakyness of the pastry, it's just a shame you couldn't have it fresh, when it is fresh the top layer of the pastry is crunchy and when you take a bite the flakes fly everywhere, and you have it all over you face, you have to try it fresh some time, and hopefully in Denmark if you ever decide to travel here 😊
Is the danish one the same that can be bought here in norway? Cause these doesn't look antthing like the one in the video, but these are amazing! And even better fresh, mmm!
I live in Racine, Wi and cannot believe you were able to get it where you are! It is truly the best Wisconsin treat and by far the best Kringle in the country. Glad you were able to enjoy it!
I would definitely call this a Americanized version of the danish kringle. We don't really use Pecans here in Denmark, but there are different variations of krigler. They usually consist of Danish pastry dough filled with either Marzipan or Remonce (A sugar, butter and flour filling) and then nuts, raisins or fruits, etc. The most famous one is probably the Borgmester Kringle (Mayor's Kringle) which has a remonce filling with chopped almonds or the Julekringle (Christmas Kringle) which has a Marzipan filling with raisins, chopped almonds (and sometimes dried and candied lemon peel.) Also the shape is usually more like the american pretzel shape or just an long square shape. :) But every family has their way of doing it. lol PS. Shields up!
I live about 3 hrs from Racine and enjoy kringle for a special sunday due to them being so rich and consumed instantly XD My favorite is the raspberry and goes well with a nice cup of hot beverage.
Just had the almond version of this, and they are so tasty. I would love to hear/see that good ole Emmy magic applied to a popular version of this recipe. Thanks for the peaceful and pleasing channel!
This episode made me so happy! Every time my dad and i make a trip up to Racine or anywhere in WI really we always stop for Kringle on the way home as a tradition.
So fun to watch this. I grew up in Minnesota just 45min from the Wisconsin border, and my dad was born and raised in Wisconsin so I grew up on Kringle!! The apple is probably my favorite!
I never tought that i will be happy while watching videos like this. And by that, i mean videos where other people are trying some food... But thanks to you Emy, i started to like videos like this so much and i'm actually very happy whenever i see that you have uploaded something... Kisses from Serbia!😄
I don't know why I enjoy watching other ppl taste food lol and Emmy nails it with the descriptions each time. so I can imagine it perfectly. luckily she can't see me drooling cause that looked good.
I'm Polish and Danish, but I've never had this before! It looks so good. After a quick Google search I found out "Enjoy your meal" in Danish is velbekomme. Velbemomme, Emmy!
I'm so glad you got to try a Kringle! They are so delicious and my family has them for breakfast on Christmas morning. It is a pretty sweet tradition 😀
"shields up!" bwahahaha... I LOVE your videos so much. Such a nice contrast to the over-reaction a lot of popular youtubers has to tasting new foods. I find watching your videos so relaxing and wish you had millions more subscribers. Thank you for making these videos for us to enjoy.
Hello Emmy, greetings from Ireland! I just wanted to let you know that I find your videos so charming and great! I have a severe anxiety disorder and I always always find your vids soothing when I have an attack. [Also I share your appreciation of good graphic design on food!] Keep up the great work! xx
I’m from a couple hours south east of Chicago and my dad would bring one of these home every month when he’d come home from business meetings/trips. The raspberry, almond, and blueberry are the best! Bless the Midwest
Thank you, Emmy! I grew up in Kenosha, WI, which is just a town over from Racine, and we had Kringles at every occasion. It wasn't a celebration without one. You really brought back some lovely memories for me. :) If you do get a recipe for this, please share! I don't live anywhere near WI now and you can't find them where I live now, so it would really be fantastic to be able to make one for my family.
This was super cool to see!! I grew up in Racine (now live about an hour away) and my mom and I would go to O&H every Wednesday after school to pick up a treat! Hope you enjoyed and greetings from WI!!
You picked a good brand! With 3 days of prep and 18 layers of buttered pastry before the filling . Plus shipping and the generous size, you got one of the best for that awesome low price!!
I'm from Racine and I never knew Kringle was so special until invent off to college and met people who have never heard of one! My fave is iced cherry!!
I've made these before... lots of different rolling and shaping styles depending on where they are being made. It takes a long time to make and a lot of butter so seven dollars doesn't surprise me. Delicious
I live in Kenosha County in Wisconsin and can get Kringle right at the bakery. They never disappoint! And you chose the perfect flavor for your first one, but my family also like the cream cheese and apricot varieties. Some folks here debate whether O&H or Lehman's have the best but both are great. As far as feeding an army...my son and husband will eat the entire Kringle if I don't freeze half for another day. Love your videos. 😊
I love Kringle! We keep them in the front of my work(Walmart) and they always sell so quick! I actually never heard of Kringle until I moved to Wisconsin, haha.
Hey I'm from Racine WI, where they make those kringles. Glad you liked it. I have them all the time. You can't go to a party without there being one there lol. They have many different flavors.
Every year my grandfather sends my family either a pecan or raspberry Kringle for us to eat on Christmas morning. It's become a tradition. Raspberry is my favorite, if you enjoy them you should give that flavor a try.
Sheilds up! Emmy is going to start hosting Reading Rainbow! And who wouldn't be soothed by having Emmy read to them? Kringles are delicious and are very common in the Midwest, especially the Upper Midwest and of course other areas with significant Scandinavian populations. My understanding from all the food shows and reading I consume is that it is speculated that most of those laminated doughs in Scandinavian and French pasty came from Vienna. And they possibly came to Austria from lands further to the east. I think a "Danish" in Denmark is called something like a "Vienna".
+YamisGuardianAngelx2 i love danish pastry so fucking much! im in Danmark in summerholdidays often (im from Germany) and i always eat so much bc ist all so good!
Hi Emmy, I am Roger, and I used to work at O+H Danish Bakery, a long time ago, I also worked at another bakery, Larsen Bakery, also in Racine,Wi. along side with my twin brother Ron, who has since passed away 7 yrs. ago, we both were 18 when we started working at Larsen, I am 58 now so 40 yrs. ago we made Kringle and other pasteries, it was very hard work and long hours, during the holidays we would work 16 hrs. a day, I don't know if you noticed how flaky the kringle is, but that is from rolling out the dough and putting in about 15 lbs. of lard in the middle, fold over the edges and rolling it out again to about a 5 ft. square, then fold it to a three fold, turn it horizontally then do the same process again for four folds, then divide the dough into 4 pieces pan it put it in the freezer for 24 hrs. the next day 1 pan of dough went into an automatic roller to which we rolled it to about 25 ft. long, then cut it into rectangles 6x10, then put those pieces into the auto roller and rolled them to 3 ft. long, laid those pieces on the work bench and put in the fillings, fold over the edges, shaped them into an oval shape, and put them on a baking pan, we then let the dough rise a little, and then put them into a hot steam room to finish the "proofing" of the dough, then it was time to go into the oven, we did this for 6 days a week, making Danish is a hard job, I quit doing it because the money wasn't there, the owners are the ones making the "dough", my twin stuck with it and went to school and became a pastry chef, he married and opened his own bakery up in Michigan, but sadly he passed away from a heart attack while he slept, I miss him and making kringles it was also a fun and interesting job, you can order kringle online and have it shipped to you also, my favorite was blueberry! it was nice chatting with you. if you need more info, I'm on facebook, Roger Pietsch
How to say 'bon appétit' in Danish is 'Velbekomme'. You've truly gotten hands on a real Danish Kringle - YUM!! Hope you liked it, Emmy! :-) . Hugs from a Danish viewer!
Danish Kringle (proncounsed Kreng-le) is usually formed like a figure 8 with the ends forming a little V shape on one side. We here in Denmark say Vel bekomme (roughly pronounced vell-bekommeh) meaning bon appetit. Vel bekomme litterally means: may you feel well after eating this.
I have not had kringle in a long time! I'm not from Racine, but some of my cousins are, and one of them would always bring kringle with him when he came to visit family! It's so delicious! *drools*
oh.. Reminds me of my grandmom.. she always makes this amazing cinnamon creamy kringle and homemade ryebread made with homemade sourdough.. Nom Nom.. Grandmothers are just great at making delicious food.. And yes im from Denmark too. 😊
Racine has several bakeries that make Kringles. The almond ones are my favorite. They don't usually have almond pieces in them - it's more of an almond paste.
My grandmother always made the best Kringle! :) I have her old handwritten recipe, but I've never gotten around to making it myself yet.. But now I want to give it a go.. ;)
hi emmy!! me and my 3 year old daughter watch all your videos! ! we are also from New England! My daughter was just saying "mommy can we watch emmy??? and she also every time she gets ready to eat, says what you say! it's the cutest thing! you have a 3 year old super fan!
I grew up eating these. My mom would even make them and house would smell soooo good. Instead of always using pecans she would use apple, blueberry, or cherry in the middle.
No, it doesn't take 3 days to make pastry nor 18 layers of folding and rolling dough. But the one in Wisconsin seems to fo so. However, the layers are almost parchment thin, something I wouldn't be able to handle except in very small portions. At home these foreign treats are a ball to make on a cloudy, chilly day indoors. Baking, they fill the house with devine aromas, except for cheese making! Making foods from around the world is whati love to do, especially for potlucks and parties. There are more than a lifetime of incredible recipes from around the world that are waiting to be made and shared.😃😋❤
Ooo, we'll have to see if our TJ's has them! My husband and his boss are both from Wisconsin, boss is from Racine! He had one of these shipped out from WI a few years back, and it was delicious! We then found one in Solvang CA for the office to eat. TJs is much easier to get to, though.
I love the way you pronounce kringle, it's cute xP The name has nothing to do with why it's called danish. In Danish, danish is called 'wienerbrød'. I'd say 'kringle' *very loosely* translates into 'pretzel', as pretzels are called 'salt kringler' (salt pretzels) in Danish, and kringle is also the shape of a pretzel. I guess I'd translate 'bon appetit' into 'velbekomme' c:
If you want to create a great Christmas tradition your kids will always remember have a Kringle for Christmas morning- everyone can get in a few bites and a sip of coffee or hot chocolate while opening gifts.
It looks delicious, but here in Denmark we would never use pecans in kringle. Istead som butter/sugar filling (remonce) but it's also very common with som sort of custard inside. We top it with icing or sugar and chopped almonds. It looks delicious though! :)
I went to college right next to Racine. I recently moved to Missouri and freaked out when I saw kringle in trader joe's! it seems like such a Wisconsin exclusive thing
Since Bon appetit is an Italian word, some in Denmark use it. But we usually say “Velbekomme” and sometimes if you have finished a meal you say “Tak for mad” and it means thanks for the food, and someone would say “Velbekomme”
Hi Emmy :) I really enjoy your videos. The first time that I watched one, it was when you did Emmy eats Venezuela, which is where i come from, so this would be my first comment. This week I came up with an idea for your videos, Campbell's soup, I know there are a lot but a few ones would be great.
WIIIIIIIISSSSCOOOOONNNSSSIIIINNN!!!! My grandparents are from Racine. These things are like my childhood. I've never seen kringle outside of Wisconsin.
That looks so good, I love flakey pastries like that and I love pecans, too. Might have to see if I can find one around here. Thanks for the suggestion, Emmy. :D
They are so good! We are hooked! Get them at Trader Joe's when they have them because when you order them on the website they are $19.99 plus $9.99 shipping! Eeeeek! Just pre-ordered the 6 month Kringle of the Month Club for my mom for Mother's Day. Enjoy!
We usually say 'Velbekomme' as a replacement for 'God appetit' which is Bon appetit directly translated :D Also 'Kringler' are one of the oldies when it comes to danish pastry. An oldie but a goodie, especially if it's made with almonds on top and a marzipan remonce(sugar and butter/margarine mixture) :O
I know this video is super old, but I had to comment as I'm actually from Racine and this bakery was right down the road when I lived there! O&H Kringles (yep, it's pronounced O and H not just "oh" :) ) are amazing and we always have one (or several) for any special occasion. The general favorite of my family is the pecan, but it's always been too much sweet for me, I much prefer the Cherry flavor which has more tartness, while you still get the sweetness from the icing! :D really glad you liked it! I would have been so sad to see it get a bad review.
We don't have pecans so it would normally be with remonce(a sugar and butter filling) or custard and with raisins or maybe toasted chopped almonds inside.s And some of them also have sugar and chopped almonds on top instead of the frosting( those are the best in my opinion)
Not all Kringle is the same as the puff pastry version., some are yeast raised and traditionally they are proofing packed in a cloth and suspended in a bucket of cold water while they are proofing
Velbekomme would be the Danish word for Bon appetite and is used both before a meal and also when someone says: tak for mad (thank you for the food) to the cook after the meal has been eaten
Bon appétit from France. It looks so goood *0*
Mm... almond pastry... sounds great.
in Germany Kringel is a word for circle, e.g. Donuts
I love the way you describe things!!
I'm Danish, but I've never had or seen a Danish pastry with pecans ^^''
+SugarCharmShop me too!! hihi.
so do you know Victoria Flamel?^^
+SugarCharmShop same, you'd have kringle with some kind of surgar, chopped hazelnuts and almonds on top, not pecans. usually the filling isn't like that too
+SugarCharmShop True, but that's because this is a Danish-American adaptation of a kringle. In Wisconsin (and also Seattle, Washington), it's fairly common to mix nuts of some kind into the remonce filling for a kringle, or even raisins or other chopped fruits.
Me2 - Jeg er også daansk!
It's great hearing from all you Racine, WI folks! 👋
+emmymadeinjapan Nyd dit måltid according to google translate
+emmymadeinjapan I'm JUST south of there in Kenosha! DANISH KRINGLE IS A MUST HAVE!
+Michael Short not quite.. If it should be totalt correct, bon appetit means "velbekomme" in Danish :-)
+Julie Jakobsen totally* stupid Danish autocorrect ;)
emmy its a huge anus!!!!!:):):):):):):)):)

Danish and Norwegian kringle, same ting ! You must be talking about the smaller kringle .
its probably pecans because its america

I grew up with this Kringle. My nana would gift our family one every Christmas, and they bring back so many memories

I love how at the very end of all of your videos you have a little funny silly part.I love you 💖💖
Oh wonderful! My grandparents are from Racine, WI and we would get Kringle every time we'd visit them My Grandpa Bob especially loves them. :)
I am from Racine, WI and I grew up eating this almost every Sunday! Pecan is my favorite and the most classic flavor but there are so many flavors!

I'm from Racine and I never knew Kringle was so special until invent off to college and met people who have never heard of one! My fave is iced cherry!!
Kringle is pretty popular is Wisconsin! Many schools or clubs sell them for fundraisers as well!
There's a berry Kringle trader joes sell during the spring, not sure if they have it anymore but they usually stock it at the beginning of May.
In Danish, the equivalent of 'Bon Appétit' would be 'Velbekomme' :) that's Danish kringle looks delicious, I've never had one before!
Ha, sounds like your welcoming food.
I've made these before... lots of different rolling and shaping styles depending on where they are being made. It takes a long time to make and a lot of butter so seven dollars doesn't surprise me. Delicious

My goodness that looks delicious! I want that and a cup of tea!
I love that you tasted it because our state dessert (Wisconsin) is actually the Kringle. 😁
I love those!!! I live in Milwaukee so I never thought it would be weird for someone to not have it.
I have this in my freezer now! Thanks for posting this. Gonna defrost it for breakfast tomorrow! Can't wait!
The traditional Danish Kringle is with raisins and some form of butter stuff called remonce in Danish... It is normally sugar, margarine and cinnamon.

I just started watching your vids today, you're super awesome!😄😄😃😃
*drools*
Bahahaha.... I wonder how many people got the " I'm Geordi" bit...:-)
Thank you for yet another highly entertaining video, Emmy!
oh.. Reminds me of my grandmom.. she always makes this amazing cinnamon creamy kringle and homemade ryebread made with homemade sourdough.. Nom Nom.. Grandmothers are just great at making delicious food.. And yes im from Denmark too. 😊
I'm from Milwaukee and Racine is just 30 to 40 minutes away! Love Kringle especially the apple one!
Racine has several bakeries that make Kringles. The almond ones are my favorite. They don't usually have almond pieces in them - it's more of an almond paste.
I live right by O & H and the Kringle is a must at holiday get togethers. So delicious. My favorite is the raspberry one. :)
Yum! My brother brings these to our Christmas from Wisconsin. So good!
My grandmother always made the best Kringle! :) I have her old handwritten recipe, but I've never gotten around to making it myself yet.. But now I want to give it a go.. ;)
Can you share? I'm looking for an authentic recipe
hi emmy!! me and my 3 year old daughter watch all your videos! ! we are also from New England! My daughter was just saying "mommy can we watch emmy??? and she also every time she gets ready to eat, says what you say! it's the cutest thing! you have a 3 year old super fan!
I saw this just yesterday and was really curious about it, thanks for the vid
Kringles all the way! Living only a couple minutes from Racine, I can tell you they are amazing fresh! You definitely picked the best flavor too!
I grew up eating these. My mom would even make them and house would smell soooo good. Instead of always using pecans she would use apple, blueberry, or cherry in the middle.
I love Kringle! That is the same one I order one every year for the holidays all the way from Racine WI! Pecan is my favorite flavor.
Loved it when my dad would come home from business trips around the Midwest and brought these home 😍
Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaas Emmy! I'm so jealous of you, it looks so good!
Looks delicious, and being a Dane myself, I honestly wish they sold kringler with pecans here in Denmark. They sounds amazing~
I love the way you pronounce kringle, it's cute xP
The name has nothing to do with why it's called danish.
If you want to create a great Christmas tradition your kids will always remember have a Kringle for Christmas morning-
everyone can get in a few bites and a sip of coffee or hot chocolate while opening gifts.
Yeeessssss my family is from there, been eating it pretty much every holiday since I was a kid
That looks so good, I love flakey pastries like that and I love pecans, too. Might have to see if I can find one around here. Thanks for the suggestion, Emmy. :D
Had my first bite today 😋 & fell in ❤️.... Delicious!
They are so good! We are hooked! Get them at Trader Joe's when they have them because when you order them on the website they are $19.99 plus $9.99 shipping! Eeeeek! Just pre-ordered the 6 month Kringle of the Month Club for my mom for Mother's Day. Enjoy!
You're so adorable Emmy, I watch your videos and they cheer me up........
I grew up in Wisconsin, very close to Racine and I always remember having one of these in my house!
bon appetit is " God appetit " in danish also im glad u trying some danish treats as well
We usually say 'Velbekomme' as a replacement for 'God appetit' which is Bon appetit directly translated :D Also 'Kringler' are one of the oldies when it comes to danish pastry.
They are so good!
Every time I get a notification on other channels I ignore it but when a notification from you I go straight to RUclips
it is 8 am in Malaysia . a nice day to start with your video emmy . love from malaysia ♡
