In many interviews Chad Gray, Hellyeah vocalist who the song is written by and about, has said that heavy metal music has saved his life. Music is his catharsis and he uses his stories to help others not feel alone. He speaks aboimut it quite bit before singer"Hush" and "Moth" live. My life is actually horrible enough it sounds like I'm making it up when I list it all out because good GOD how can all that have happened to ONE PERSON? But it has, but that's ok- I am Still Alive- I am Still Here! :) And THAT is a GOOD thing! Some of my sexual abuse was from my step-father who gave me my last name (he adopted me)- he was my mother's second husband and he died some 15 years or so ago. Other sexual abuse was, sadly, at the hands of older boys who, at this time of my life, I can understand were sexually abused themselves (most likely) and acting out in the only ways they knew. But in the end, I am who I am because of all my life's ex[eriences. I mostly like myself :) so it's all ok. I think Hush refers to the quiet nights, and quieting to the negative inner voices through therapy and getting it out there. He did this to show those abused they are not alone.
This song was written by the band to bring attention to domestic violence and suicide. It's a powerful song and powerful video.
Not easy as a child who sees their parents as God to escape. We long for the hush of silence and peace when our world is full of secrets and chaos.
He's not saying to stay in the situation or stay silent. but not to do anything to provoke your tormentor until you can get away.
I am agreeing with everything said in the video, PLUS I was trying to give safety tips of my own.
5:10 let me be clear, the song is saying the things you have to do in this situation when you cant get out and or dont have someone to go to.

Don't think you quite understand the song. The Hush part isn't about not telling anyone. Everyone who been through this knows what it's about. I remember when my dad would start getting made my mother, brother and I would fall quickly, and just sit there hoping something else would grab his attention. You just Hush and pray.
I did not have to deal with this form of abuse when younger so I probably DID misunderstand. I'm sorry.
