Best Dropbox video by miles. I have watched so many Dropbox videos since yesterday when I attempted to download this program. Your video is excellent in making the process clear and understandable. Seems they developed this program more for getting money at every turn vs ease of use. Just my observation and opinion. I qualify this comment with a 75 year old brain that has lost its technical abilities sad to say so thank you for clarifying the operation of this app. 👍
There's a downside to the 'Online Only' storage option for Dropbox files, which is hardly ever mentioned (or mentioned at all): If you use that option (Online Only), a lot of applications on your computer can see the file of choice when browsing the Dropbox Maps, but they can't open them. Which makes them useless, unless you first make them 'Offline Available' again - all of them single and by hand. This can lead to very annoying situations that you want to avoid. I give an example: As a music composer I use a DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) to compose tracks. If I want to choose my sounds that I want to use, I open the music application browser to look into the specific sample library maps that I have put into Dropbox. To give you an idea: they all have a certain mapping type, which can only be opened by certain corresponding applications. And then the problem occurs: all sample maps are visible, but: I CAN'T open them and scroll thru the dozens of musical files in each sample map.... because the file's contents are 'Online Only'. An unworkable situation... and not only in this example. My advice: don't use the 'Online Only' option, unless you really don't have enough space on your HD's.
Hi! My name is Adele. I just saw this video and I like how you explain things. During COVID, I picked up a hobby and I have a Dropbox account...woo-hoo🎉! Here it comes...I've been too intimidated to use it. Also, I'm in my mid young sixties, so being tech savvy is not in my blood. I managed to save a few things (documents, photos) simply by just playing around by clicking on things hoping that I can always "cancel" if I don't think it's what I want to do. I mainly want to save photos of the work I'm doing, like needlework images I have as hard copies (from my photo gallery unless there's another way). I, also, want to export them into another app, Goodnotes 5. Then other times, I need to import them into Goodnotes 5 from Dropbox. However, I just don't know how to translate the information I see. Yes, I'm very new at this. Will you explain to me what to do once I'm already inside Dropbox? I'm assuming I start from "Home". Maybe you have a video on this? Please let me know if you have questions. Thank you.
Nicely presented video on how to get started with Dropbox. Could you please do videos for intermediate and advanced Dropbox users? Cover Dropbox Paper. Third party add ins. Badge? Dropbox does a poor job of explaining its products and they seem to modify them often. There is a real need for what you do so well here.
Great information on Dropbox. Very nice video/presentation. Also... I am super excited about command + T. So fun to learn some super helpful random thing. Thanks!!
Have you ever had a situation where 3 project files exist-one online (Dropbox) and the other 2 on the Mac? According to Dropbox the newer MacOS placed the offline file in the Library, so syncs were going there without me realizing it. BUT while I was working without an Internet connection, I would be working on the copy outside the Library-the one I was originally familiar with (before a new MacOS apparently changed the destination). Now, what can I do to get the two desktop files in sync? Do you think it would work if I first sync the online copy with Library copy, then second sync the online copy again but this time with the non-Library copy? Would that put all the work into one file-the online one? Then I could get rid of the non-Library copy, and let the Library copy be the only one to work with the online copy.
What if there are two local copies created for the same file online, and you aren't sure if all the edits made in either local file are synced to the online file? This has occurred for me because Apple moved the DropBox location, creating a new local copy. So sometimes I worked offline with my original copy, and sometimes I worked remotely with the online copy. I only discovered the dual local copies. Now what do I do?
I was hoping to get some help; my Mac says cannot send message your account does not have a preferred outgoing mail server. This happens when I try to send a file to someone.
I am so confused about dropbox.....I had artwork scanned and saved in dropbox.....I can't access dropbox files from my tablet......I logged onto a public computer and the first dropbox screen has me baffled.....I need to be able to upload 9 artworks onto a POD website.....I am stuck.....
I on the other hand....would advice to give some extra attention to the in this video shortly mentioned 'selective sync' option and its possibilities. It is a very useful tool, especially when multiple users on multiple computers (like in educational purposes) are using the same, centralised Dropbox account. With this function different computers (and/or users) can have access to only the selectively synced maps.
I can't tell what is better: Google Drive or Dropbox but I just both because they offer Standard option for people who just want free cloud storage and syncing without paying monthly fees and using only 20 MB of size for apps
You mentioned at beginning of this video that you will share how to upgrade it without pay extra. You didnt do it. Please let me know. Thanks for your video.
This was a very helpful tutorial. Thank you for posting. However, I'm finding that when I store a pages document on Dropbox from my Mac, and then try to open that pages document from an Android phone, I get a notification saying "Can't open {this document}. Please download an app that can open this file." I think that will be a problem when trying to use Dropbox to share files across multiple platforms. Can you help me understand if I'm doing something wrong?
That's dropbox for ya! Had it for years. Typical their guide is 5 YEARS OLD!!! So many small issues that you cannot find answers for. DB typical answers are so basic, they must use bots.
As a paying user I am SUPREMELY DISSAPOINTED in dropbox. It automatically saves everything on your hard drive that you add to dropbox. WTF!? I am not paying this service to USE MY HARD DRIVE SPACE. Seriously! What the hell! And then I have to go investigate all these menus and menus just to get the stupid thing to DO WHAT I THOUGHT IT WAS DOING. Seriously! What a SCAM!

Thank You, for graciously putting your time and showing all of us how to work Drop Box. 👏👏👏👏

Thank you for a great video on setting up Drop box. It is very thorough and easy to understand.
Thank you very much. Explanation is clear, commands are so easy to follow immediately.

This happens when I try to send a file to someone.
When I send things the people I’m sending it to don’t receive it, even though I sent it and know I’m sending it correctly what can I do to help them?
Thank you. Very helpful
I have recipients of my android dropbox files via email can't open them.😮

Thanks! I learned a lot!
great vid, but wondering if maybe i missed the trick about adding additional storage space without upgrading?
I am so confused about dropbox.....I had artwork scanned and saved in dropbox.....I can't access dropbox files from my tablet......I logged onto a public computer and the first dropbox screen has me baffled.....I need to be able to upload 9 artworks onto a POD website.....I am stuck.....

Much appreciated, thanks
You did not tell us how to turn on access to drop box. I have tried several ways without success.
You mentioned at beginning of this video that you will share how to upgrade it without pay extra. You didnt do it. Please let me know. Thanks for your video.
He did. It was where he was talking about sharing drop box with a friend. Then you get some extra storage.

Thank you. ery helpful to a novice!
You said you would tell us how to get more free storage Bruh
Dropbox is the easiest cloud service on mac. Both google cloud and icloud very bad on mac!

Am guessing this is out of date as am confused to hell.
