- Western "Dead Man's Walk" TV Mini Series, 1996, United States
Stars: F. Murray Abraham, Keith Carradine, Patricia Childress, Edward James Olmos, Eric Schweig, Harry Dean Stanton
In this prequel to "Lonesome Dove" based on the book by Larry McMurtry, we find a young Woodrow Call and Augustus Macrae just starting out as Texas Rangers and beginning to become men. Strong acting throughout and a crackling good story hilight this worthy sequel and it makes a fine addition to the lore that is Lonesome Dove.

BEST WESTERN SERIES EVER! ALL VERY ENTERTAINING, REALISTIC. GREAT JOB CASTING LOVE CHARACTERS. ESPECIALLY ROBERT DUVALL, KEITH CARRIDINE.
I got a few series I like like hell on wheels Texas rising rough riders into the west and Buffalo Soldier they used to make great western for tv
Biggest thumbs up ever.
I just finished the book. Thoroughly enjoyed the movie! Thanks for posting!
What I love about this is that so much of the dialogue is word for word from the book. Also, David Arquette did a masterful job of mimicking Robert Duval's performance as Gus with his hand gestures and how he waves his arm when he talks. Spot on perfect
Not even close to Duvall wtf man?
Thank you for posting...Liked and Subscribed. I don't understand why thousands have not. I'm sure many would be grateful to see Commanche Moon posted.
Ironic thing is:
Every lonesome dove movie has one line in it that’s iconic.
“I won’t tolerate rude behavior”
Miller says it in this, Jones says it, zhan says it and so does Gardner.
Thank you for sharing this movie ❤
The BEST actors, the BEST production , the BEST Western ever created,,,
Super good : gripping, as real as if I was almost there
This was great. Thank ya kindly for the upload 🤠
Always welcome! 😉
Soooo good!!! Thank you!!
You are welcome!
First time to see this movie. Thank you for bringing it to me. I look forward to seeing more of the stories this channel will bring to my home.
Been listening to the audiobook of this, it’s so good!!
Comanche moon is my favorite
"Rangering is a fine sport. But it ain't quite safe."
That was awesome 👏🏻
Thank you for sharing 🙏
After the brilliant performances in the original Lonsome Dove series, the actors playing Gus & Cpt Call fell way short in my eyes .. This could have been a much better sequel if they had cast better actors to play those 2 iconic roles ..thanks for the upload all the same..
Pretty good I’ve been meaning to watch this entire series of some point.
Thanks for sharing. Love western movies.
welcome!
There's them Green Pastures 😮
Excellent series
It is a crying shame yall gave in and started putting ads in these here movies.I always credited yall with some class.Guess I was wrong.Sad.😢
Love this!!
Great movie
It's good movie. 👍 Like it.
Wondering how many people noticed this gus shoots at a antelope but everyone says deer they even show the scouts killing a buck😂
David Arquette nailed Gus 😊
Just finished the entire series last night and figured might as well watch it now. I enjoyed the HELL out of Commanche Moon, Lonsesome Dove, and Streets of Laredo and would give them a solid 9 (with Lonesome Dove at a solid 10) but Dead Mans Walk i would give a 7.5. Nonetheless i LOVE the ending of Streets of Laredo and just seeing Call being a dad and finding some peace a great way to end the series.
Ironic thing is:

“I won’t tolerate rude behavior”
Miller says it in this, Jones says it in lonesome dove, Voight says it in Return, Urban in Comanche moon, and so does Gardner in Streets of Laredo.
Jones said it not Duvall but yes iconic line right there

Yeh I meant jones my bad
3:35:00 thru 3:35:30 BigFoot Wallace's reaction was intense.
David Arquette did a WONDERFUL job of impersonating Robert Duvall's "Agustus McCrae"!! Because he acts JUST LIKE Robert Duvall, acting like Agustus McCrae! 😂🤣👍
Got it. I think 😂
@@Doreana48501 😆👍
Wery good movie
Dead mans walk part 1,2,3
(history) By 1875 the Comanche had been defeated by the U.S. army. Some 1500 only survived.
Beware of The Dark Woman on The White Mule!!!
it is super
Brian Dennehy would have made more sense as Bigfoot Wallace.
Having just got into Lonesome Dove, this is my third after LD, RTLD & SoLR absolutely fantastic. If I'd know tho I would have watched this first to see the lads when they were younger before they came to be what they are in LD. Now just gotta watch Comanche Moon which I believe is part of the story.
Lonesome dove the outlaw year's is a good series too.
Same actor who plays Long Bill Coleman is in Comanche Moon playing the same character
I'm sure glad I was able to serve in the US military.
The story is a good one. Sadly, the revolvers are too modern for a story set in 1842. Patterson Colts would have been available in small numbers but not the 1847 Walker Colts or 1849 and 1851 pattern Colts.
Not knowledgeable enough to understand or appreciate how much does that detract watching the show is too you knowing what you shared? Was it something very obvious or did you realize it after awhile? Just curious is all. I’ve been watching Forgotten Weapons episodes and found it pretty amazing to learn about such things. Plus the various types of competitions he shows.

I've grown accustomed to it... sort of.
In this movie, because the rifles (the single shot muzzle loaders shown) appear to be time appropriate, my reaction to the pistols was more amusement than annoyance. The movies and shows that annoy me most are the ones where nearly every character has a Colt "Peacemaker" (a.k.a. Single Action Army) strapped to his hip and a Winchester 1873 (or 1892) carbine in his saddle scabbard and everyone is marveling over the power and utility of a "Henry Rifle." Most such annoying movies are set after the civil war when the Winchester and other rifles mentioned below became available.
The evolution of the what became the Winchester 1873 (the longest produced and best selling Winchester prior to the 1894 which is still being made, btw) was from Volcanic which failed and became Henry which failed and became Winchester. The Volcanic fired a bullet that had the propellant in a deep cavity at the rear of the bullet with the opening covered by some sort of priming compound, probably involving Fulminate of Mercury. It was very weak and not very reliable. The Henry began by using .44 Short Rimfire cartridges. Thse were way more reliable than the Volcanic ammo but were still pretty weak. That shortcoming was partly addressed by being able to load the gun with well over a dozen cartridges but the Henry could not compete at medium to long range with the Spencer carbine with its capacity of 7 or so .45-60 centerfire cartridges. The Henry ran out of range at about the spot where the Spencer shooter would flip up his ladder sight and start to get serious.
When Henry failed and Winchester took over, the 1866 "Yellow Boy" bronze receiver carbine had a loading gate on the right side (as do all subsequent Winchester lever guns except the 1895) and was chambered in any of several centerfire pistol calibers. Reliability, power and range went up but the receivers did not last. The Winchester 1873 was similarly chambered for pistol ammo but the receiver was far more durable hardened steel, internal improvements were made and the gun was very popular. It out-ranged the Henry .44 Short Rimfire but was still no match at range for the Spencer or Sharps.
I think part of the reason the Spencer lost out is because its tubular magazine was in its stock. To reload the weapon one had to lower the muzzle, twist and remove the spring-loaded follower rod through the butt plate to open the loading port (taking it completely out is easier with a .22 I've used with a similar arrangement), put the cartridges in, insert the follower rod and twist it to latch, lower the lever to open the action and eject the last empty, allow a new cartridge to inter, raise the lever. Now you can take aim. (Clint Eastwood's _Unforgiven_ features a Spencer Carbine owned by Morgan Freeman's character.) With a Winchester '73, you take a cartridge out of your pistol belt, push the bullet end into the loading gate and push the cartridge in until the gate will close. Repeat until the cartridge won't go all the way in. You can stop and take a shot after fully inserting any cartridge. All the required actions are simple and relatively small, performing the operation in concealment is possible.
Few American made rifles of the late 19th century matched the Sharps single shot rifle with its 1000+ yard range. It was too heavy for most shooters and only a single shot but it could drop a bull buffalo with one shot. If the shooter was steady enough, he could hit and kill a man as far as he could see him. Hits at well over 1000 yards are becoming common at the annual shooting match out west. The movie _Valdez Is Coming_ shows the only character correctly equipped to hunt men that I recall seeing in a Hollywood movie. Valdez (portrayed by Burt Lancaster) is a former Army Scout in the American Southwest who has retired to be local lawman. He gets his old gear out of a trunk and goes to battle in defense of a wronged Indian woman with his Colt pistol, side-by-side double 12 guage shotgun and his Sharps Rifle. I recommend the movie. And, of course _Quigley Down Under_ features Tom Selleck wielding a Sharps to great effect in another great movie.
Anyway, even though I really enjoy movies like _Silverado,_ the constant "ooo"-ing and "ahhh"-ing over Danny Gover's Henry rifles is a feature of the movie that I dislike. It's not so bad I don't enjoy the movie; I watch it at least once per year. It's a good, optimistic story and I enjoy it immensely. It just has that one Itty bitty problem...
Fun information. But you don't have to be such a sad sack about it.
I hate to complain, but for the sake of accuracy, Big Foot Johnson did not die by firing squad. In fact, he lived to the ripe old age of 82.
That was the other Big Foot Johnson
They are Bison not buffalo
I'm sure thankful that I could serve in the US military and not the Mexican military. Our command structure didn't aways get it right but they did not sacrifice us so foolishly. It must leave a person hollow to realize that you are nothing more to your commanders than a Humvee or a Howitzer.
Even through the internet I can smell the old, but the dumb has been a lifetime.
Squak..Go to Boston..Go to Boston..squak..
Entertaining but doesn`t keep to the history
What,, they didn't bother burying the major? Guess they figured the Comanches wouldn't mind grabbing that cool blue suit even though it's got only one arrow hole in it...
This series has similarities with the series Texas Rising

Unfortunately the cinematography and the acting are fairly poor in this adaptation. Not nearly as good as Lonesome Dove. I’m glad I read the book first because this would’ve kept me from the book.
good cast but terrible script !
Kind of stupid movie get kill for nothing 😮😮
