Another interpretation of the ending is that one of those two could be that thing. Childs was alone until the ending. That thing could have infected him too. 😎
I wanna see you react to Split Second from 1992
@@VyHuynh202177 I never thought of it that way that's pretty cool
Personally I never could get over the fact that MacReady gave Childs something to drink at the ending. Not after they made a point out of it that everyone took care of their own food and that we got to see Blair eating in the shed, which may or may not be the point when he got infected.
And since we actually did not see MacReady get away from the rather substantial explosion...... who knows? The thing might have gotten to him somehow before we see him at the ending.
Same with Childs. He takes the drink without hesitation.
I see a pretty good chance that both of them are actually infected.
As a matter of fact there is an alternate ending to the movie which, as far as I know, has only been shown in a TV version of the movie.
It shows the next morning with the camp in ruins and a husky coming out of the rubble and running away.
It's interesting but personally I prefer the original version where everything is left open.
After all the entire movie plays with doubt and uncertainty. So it makes a lot of sense that it ends this way as well.
I have seen this movie for the first time some time around the mid-90s I guess. It still gives me an uneasy feeling today.
It is quite awesome in my opinion.
@@TeeJayDesastron your right !
Wilford Brimley, who plays Blair, was a Marine, a rancher and a bodyguard to Mr Howard Hughes. He was one tough man. People make the mistake that overweight people can not be strong.

That was a craziest s*** ever LOL
the dog should have gotten an Academy Award for acting.
🤣🤣🤣🤣 I agree
I've said the same thing for over 30 years... The hallway scene is top notch. The trainer of that dog did a great job.
@@Fizbin1701, honestly, what do you think an actor does? It listens to its trainer (We call them directors) who's just off camera.
We know when the actor is good, because we can't tell someone is off camera barking instructions.
We know when a dog actor is good for the exact same reasons.
@@Fizbin1701 You have to admire dog talent that comes to the set with memorized lines.
@@Fizbin1701 I know you were being sarcastic, but Damn right you should have realized. The dog actor's name was Jed. Check out his bio on IMDB... Jed was born in 1977 in Bellingham, Washington, USA. He was an actor, known for White Fang (1991), The Journey of Natty Gann (1985) and Dead Kennedys: The Early Years (1987). He died in June 1995 in Acton, California, USA.
No CGI in this. 80’s special effects were the best.
You gotta love it
"What the f**k is that!" pretty much sums up the whole movie. It was a lot of fun watching that with you man.

One of the greatest movies of all time, and greatest horror ever. Not just because it has an amazing cast, script, atmosphere, etc but because of the concept. You're stuck on a desolate continent, you're battling an Intelligent enemy that you don't know if it's just trying to survive or it's malicious, it can only be killed with fire/acid...if it even just touches you you're dead, there's almost no way to tell something is an imitation, if it gets to transportation, water or civilization then it's game over not only for humans but all life on earth. Can't think of anything more frightening besides maybe entire nuclear annihilation of everything.
@BattleAngelFan definitely a crazy thing to think about. Wouldn't it be wild (in this movie universe) if they could corner this alien lifeform and lock it away in a room it cannot escape or hurt anyone and force it to try to communicate with you ? I'd have so many questions lol let's hope something doesn't exist like this out there somewhere or if it does ..it's friendly and has a conscience 😂
Agree
The practical effects here are the peak of practical special effetcs. Rob Bottin, the guy responsible for those actually got hospitalized because he was working so hard and lacked that much rest while filming. What a chad.
For anyone thinking about getting this on 4k, don`t hesitate. The Picture resolution and HDR are outstanding!
AGREE....both Childs & McCready were human and decided to die with mother nature! Great reaction video!!!
Kurt Russell's character's name is actually spelled "MacReady".
LOL, It's alright though.
I actually made the same mistake the first time that I saw the Movie.
You can't see Child's breath.
Yes you can
Carpenter said everyone infected had a white lite in their eyes.. childs had a light
only McCready had breath in the cold at thend tho
Eating while watching The Thing is not a good idea lol.
I had no idea what I was in for 😂 the worst lunch ever
Best reaction to this I've seen yet. 😅
thank you so much !!!!!!
They dont make them like this anymore. Great production value on these reviews btw.
Thanks Mark appreciate you
My man out here delivering top tier reactions with high production values. Can't beat that!
Thank you for your kind words I'm just trying to entertain an audience
to answer your question about taking a shot like that, winds in Antarctica are fierce to say the least so just taking a shot on a stationary target the size of a dog from a helicopter thats just hovering is 50/50, when you take in all the factors like the strong winds, the forward movement of the helicopter and the downward force created by the blades that the shot will immediately be affected by, plus its a moving target that's only the size of a dog, hitting a shot like that would be extremely difficult in my opinion, and I have plenty of experience shooting.
thank you !
And who is to say that the dog Was Not shot several times - bullets would not kill the Thing since it is just undifferentiated tissue. It does not have specific organs.
I've watched this movie well over 100 times and it still holds up today than the first day it came out in the theaters.
Yes it is a complete classic one of the best
Saw one where someone spotted that Childs doesn’t give off any steam when he breathes at the end, so they reckon he’s the Thing...
This is my favorite horror movie of all time. The ending is suppose to reflect the theme of the moive: Paranoia. You will never know the truth.
Best reaction to this film that I’ve seen dude. Laughed out loud several times. Well done :)
lol, thanks!
First watching: Why are they trying to kill that dog? Run dog, run!
Second watching: Kill it! Kill that dog!
Fun Fact: This is the first film to ask the age old question - Windows or Mac?
That was hilarious I felt the same way protect the dog and then oh please kill that dog
1. It's very difficult to shoot a moving target from a moving vehicle.
2. The Norwegian killed himself so the thing wouldn't get him.
3. That is a joint they're passing back and forth.
4. Not murder. Clark was attacking Mac with a scalpel. Self defense.
5. Of all the crap that happened Blair dragging Gary by the face was what took me..
6. Along with "Escape from New York" "Big Trouble in Little China" and "Tango and Cash" with Stallone would be great first time/share.
7. Goof: Blair wouldn't have had enough time to build the little spacecraft.
8. Childs was missing for a minute. The final conversation with Mac you can't see Child's breath. If he were the Thing he would want to freeze,
whoever is not the thing would freeze to death.
Best dog actor EVER. (apparently he was NOT friendly either) 👍✌
Like many diva actors 🤣
@@Dogslife_ LOL...I watched the movie with John Carpenter and Kurt Russell commentary. They said the dog was fantastic but mean as hell, only his handler could control him.
Great reaction! Fun to watch you freak out over this nasty classic.
Glad you enjoyed my pain lol
dude youre the sharpest reactor ive seen on youtube. You pick up all the nuances and small details. subbed

This movie is actually part of the Apocalypse trilogy. The movies have no connections between them but common themes. The movies are Prince of Darkness (not as timeless as the Thing but still holds up), The Thing and In the Mouth of Madness (some people hate on it because the plot gets metaphysical, but it's a good movie).
Mouth of Madness might be the best Lovecraft film ever made, without being a Lovecraft story. Plenty of nods to him in it, though. It's seemed to me like Prince of Darkness is the one that gets ignored more, though, which is too bad because it's still a solid film.
@@FailedBard I would give that honor to Annihilation 2018, as the best Lovecraftian film ever made.
@@StarryStarryNocturne I'd not heard of that one, but from a quick lookup of it, it does look interesting. Underwater is another that I haven't seen yet, but looks like it could be really good as a Lovecraftian tale.
@@FailedBard If you love Lovecraftian horror and have always wanted to see it done exceptionally well through the visual medium of film, you are going to fall head over heels for Annihilation 2018. I would recommend you first experience it on a big screen, with a darn good sound system if possible. Its also a movie that inspires multiple viewings to really absorb everything it has to offer. :)
I love that you're scolding John Carpenter the whole movie. Good stuff.
The original story belongs to John W. Campbell. The book is called Who Goes There? and was published in 1938. Carpenter followed the book pretty well but did change some things. As for the end we don't see McReady drink from the bottle nor do we see where he got the bottle from, so it could be a left over molotov cocktail and gave it to Childs to see if he would drink it. After he does drink it McReady smiles. I like to think that it was scotch, they were both human and got drunk and froze to death. I love the ambiguous ending. Great movie and story. Awesome reaction.
I do think it was scotch, but childs fucked up by drinking from the same bottle as Mac, no one human would do that. Also, if the comics are cannon, the rescue team came the morning after all this! They test Mac and Childs, Childs was infected. Also the studio made them shoot an alternate ending of what i just described. Its childs.
@ 1:06 Especially when one is a lousy shot to begin with! LOL! Since you mentioned Snake Plissken you've probably seen Escape From New York done just before The Thing. There are two more of his so-called four apocalyptic films you'll like too, "Prince of Darkness" (1987) and "They Live" (1988). The Thing was a good film alright and a remake of The Thing from Another World (1951). A few others not gory you might enjoy are "Interstellar", "The Shawshank Redemption", "The Green Mile", "Avatar". ✌️😎
Lol. You cracked me up all the way through this reaction! Subscribed. Can't wait to watch your others.
Thanks for subbing !!!!
Some of the best practical effects ever done.
John Carpenter's Film: THE THING, is an Underated Masterpiece.
My favorite sci fi horror movie. A masterpiece that was unjustly lambasted by the critics at the time of its release. I guess this is most people's favorite Carpenter movie (together with Halloween).
That was a GREAT review of The Thing! You were spot on for most of the talk going on in the theater when my friend and I went to to see it on it's release in '81. I was 10 years old, Monty and I were supposed to go see ET but his brother worked at the Cinema3 where both were playing. He snuck us in and I've been a fan of John Carpenter and horror movies in general ever since. My friend Monty had nightmares for months, but hey, to each their own. Again, great review!!!!
Well said! thank you
*dog dies in the most painful way possible* *EXTREMELY FIRE BEAT PLAYS*

it's not the greatest prequel, but if you watch "The Thing 2011" it shows the Norwegian's point of view leading up to this film. another great reaction to an amazing film! 👍
I Watch this every Halloween
that was crazy !!
@@PopcornReactions me 2
Every Halloween I watch it all year long along with Xenomorphs and Predators best aliens ever
The is an answer in the last few moments of the film to who was the thing in the end. MacReady gives Childs the bottle of whiskey, Childs takes a drink and MacReady then laughs to himself. MacReady just tested Childs, he just drank gasoline from a Molotov Cocktail. The thing pretends to be human, but doesn’t know the difference in taste between gas and booze. Remember they were destroying the entire station with Molotov Cocktails, MacReady did have whiskey with him. He laughed because he now knows Childs is the thing and they are going to freeze to death. The thing gets to freeze and survive in the end!
When Childs and MaCready were last men standing 9or sitting) at the end only MaCready had frosted breath when he spoke! Leading to the possibility that Childs is 'The Thing!' Dn Dn Dnnnnn 😂 great, high energy reaction! Love this film
Oh wow that is diabolical
This movie is so awesome. I first saw it when i was maybe 9 or so, and didnt understand it. but, the older i got, it got better and better, specially after years and years of not seeing it. its pretty intense
A horror masterpiece! Also by Carpenter, check out In the Mouth of Madness. And another film with a similar idea as The Thing (but done very differently) is "Mimic" (1997). Worth a watch!
Dude, this is one of the best reaction videos that I have ever seen. Your commentary is priceless!
Wow, thank you!
the sound effect for the two piece mac delivers is so satisfying :D
Greate reaction, i would recomend you my favorite movie of all time, Big Trouble in Little China. In my country it took a while to come to our television, so it was a afternoon classic. Kurt Russel too.
Most original horror movie ever even though it’s a remake. Most movies were throwing their monsters in scary suits, but in this one they use animatronic puppets.
GREAT Reaction Video!
GREAT Movie!
Thank you!
It’s a classic! Your reactions were awesome! Thanks for making this re-watch so much fun.
Glad you enjoyed it! thank you again
This movie didn’t gain traction until later on because everybody was hung up on E.T. Later on in life you see which one is held up through the test of time. E.T. is considered some hot garbage (by me and others) right now and this is arguably one of the greatest movies of all time!
12:57 "My face been like this the whole time." XD
😂😂
Rode my bicycle down to the theater in 1982 and loved it. I've seen it 2-3 dozen times since. Probably seen 10 or so reactions on u tube,, but yours was one of the best. Had me rolling 🤣
I'm gonna start using "Damn John Carpenter!" everytime something looks messed up or goes horribly wrong.
They actually made a Prequel (which is also called "THE THING") to this Movie back in 2011.
VERY VERY VERY Long Post below!
The Prequel also takes place in Antarctica back in 1982 and 3 days before the events of the John Carpenter Movie and it is the story of what happened at the Norwegian Base (the base where the Dog-Thing came from). The Prequel stars Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Joel Edgerton.
Now I myself actually like the 2011 Prequel although it is not anywhere even close to being as good as the John Carpenter Movie. It also has got a lot of really bad CGI in it. The reason why is because the Director of the Prequel originally did do Practical Effects when he made the Prequel (he wanted to stay true to the John Carpenter Movie when it came to Practical Effects) however, after filming on the Prequel was finished and it was close to being completed in Post-Production, The Studio saw the Movie and for some reason did not like the Practical Effects in it and so very late into Post-Production, The Studio hired the guys who did the CGI for the Movie "DISTRICT 9" to come in and cover over a majority (not all) of the Practical Effects in the Prequel which they then did. The fact that it was all done so late into Post-Production of the Prequel (basically almost at the last minute) is 1 of the main reasons why I think the CGI is so bad in the Movie.
What is even worse is that the guys who actually did the Practical Effects for the Prequel (their names are "Alec Gillis" and "Tom Woodruff Jr.") actually didn't even find out what the Studio did until they actually saw the Movie at it's Premiere.
Now I don't know if this next part is true or not but I did also hear that the Director also never knew that the Studio did that until he as well saw the Movie at it's Premiere (again, I may be wrong about that).
Still though, I myself do still like the Prequel (even with the bad CGI) and if that sort of thing (bad CGI) is not something that bothers you then you should check out the Prequel whenever you have the chance.
Again, it is not anywhere even close to being as good as the John Carpenter Movie (it does have a lot of flaws including the bad CGI so if you watch it, don't go in expecting to watch a Movie that is on the exact same level or above as the John Carpenter Movie) but I myself still like it.
Oh man! I heard about that that they went through all the trouble of doing practical effects on a John Carpenter remake just for the studio to make changes and not even have the balls to tell them so that's f***** up I think I'm going to react to the 2011 version just because of that story thank you so much
@@PopcornReactions Well the 2011 Movie is actually a Prequel, it is not a Remake.
Again, It is the story of what happened at the Norwegian Base (the base where the Dog-Thing came from).
Also, I just want to say again that I do not know if the story about the Director also not knowing is true or not. I don't know!
When it comes to all of the other things that I said (about the Studio coming in during Post-Production and having a majority (not all) of the Practical Effects in the 2011 Prequel be covered over with CGI and not telling the guys who did the Practical Effects about it) are also things that I have heard as well. I do however believe that that is true (that is just me though).
Having said that, I have actually seen photos of the Practical Effects that they did for the 2011 Prequel (which then ended up getting covered over with the bad CGI) and I do hope that at some point in the future, they will actually release a version of the 2011 Prequel that does indeed have all of the Practical Effects in it.
@@PopcornReactions Also, I won't say why but whenever you do watch the Prequel and you get to the point where the Movie ends and the Ending Credits start going.....DO NOT turn the Movie off.
Just keep watching when the Ending Credits start going.
I won't say why but there is indeed something during the Ending Credits.
Love your reactions man keep it up lol

This was based on the novel "Who Goes There?" John Campbell. 1948. Shasta Press.
"somebody get wolverine grandaddy" hahahahahhaha
lol
For another gross one from Carpenter, check out Prince of Darkness. It has Dennis Dunn and Victor Wong from Big Trouble in Little China too.
on my list thank you
This one freaked me out too, something about mixing real science and things like evil and satan and shit like that. When you mix real science and physics into a fiction its gives it more plausibility in the minds of people who don't know any better and thus makes it more frightening as a horror movie.
"Check your blood sugar. Check it often"
1:08 It is hard, I have never shot a dog sized target from a chopper, but I have shot a still paper target from a moving boat, at only 20 meters only 18 out of 25 rounds hit the target. (and I have been shooting for over 20 years) When you are in a moving helicopter and the target is moving the speed of a husky dog you have to do what's called a negative lead where you shoot behind the dog because the chopper is moving faster then the dog.
1:02 Det er ingen hund!
"Come on eyebrows!" 🤣🤣🤣
this was your best reaction yet! You make me LOL 😂
Glad you enjoyed
First theory is Childs is The Thing, notice when MacReady gives him the whiskey he drinks it without concern which makes MacReady smile or , my second theory is MacReady smiles because he's The Thing and he just infected Childs
Maybe the "whiskey" was gasoline and MacReady smiled because Childs didn't react which suggest Childs is The Thing.
@@claymccoy I'll accept that theory, I just like to think one of them is the Thing at the end lol
Best animal acting in any film ever, that I've seen.
yes!
3 cheers to the dog trainer on this movie.
Childs didn't have steam coming off his breath at the end. The Thing.
Look closer. And Bennings Thing breath was visible.
Shooting at a moving target while you’re on a platform on the move? Hard as hell. You’d need a machine-gun to even have a hope of scoring a hit.
I can only imagine how difficult that is
"wolverine's grand daddy" 🤣 New sub.
You would probably like Carpenter's 'They Live'. Roddy Piper and Keith David (Childs).
Most definitely that is on my list I can't wait to get to it
The two at the end are human.
He was lured out so the thing could get inside. He was told not to let him in. So I don't think he wouldn't have. Yet, he might have been too brave and thought he could go out and corner him.
Remember he could have killed Mac and won at the very end. He had the torch.
Yet, Mac lost the chess match. So, who knows.
I love your reaction video and the way you are overcoming the copyright bs.
It's definitely a challenge but I try to put it together the best I can appreciate you
Quintessential horror movie, should be seen by everyone and respected for what it accomplished. It schools horror movies today.
This is an absolute classic. My boy nice work
Thank you so much for the kind words!
Another amazing reaction as per usual! I really recommend the movies "We Need To Talk About Kevin" and "The Perks Of Being A Wallflower", if you haven't seen them already. I am quite a big fan of actor Ezra Miller, and they play the main role and a big side role in these two movies. We Need To Talk About Kevin is a such a disturbing yet well-directed film, and The Perks Of Being A Wallflower is such a genuinely amazing film all around, and the funny thing is and the reason i am recommending these both is because these movies both came out within the same year, yet Ezra's characters are so drastically different, it is *insane* , just these 2 movies alone display just how good Ezra Millers acting is! I'm not sure about The Perks Of Being A Wallflower, but, the full We Need To Talk About Kevin movie has been reuploaded on youtube for free by random people, with no issues, so if you do decide to react to it, you shouldn't have any copyright problems 🥰
We Need to Talk About Kevin is an awesome movie
im gona check this one out great cast
This is one of my most favorite horror films. The amount of hard work that went into it is just awesome. And it looks amazing.
Couldn't agree more!
You figure out the dog earlier than anyone. I salute you! Practically Everyone else is "don't shoot the dog a-hole!" Dumb they seem. Something obviously is wrong with damn dog.
I was just thinking for those guys to go out of their way to kill a dog for the sake of being dog haters is probably unprobable

The BEST Horror Films have that Open To Interpretation Feel; The Shinning (Was Jack a ghost the whole time, absorbed by the Hotel, or has the shinning himself) Alien (where did them come from, what are they used for, who made the eggs) As for the ending: I have always felt that Childs is a thing at the end....reasons being; When the others leave for Blair's shack he is first seen wearing a dark grey coat - as shown when he says "If I was a imitation,, a perfect imitation...", and a dark grey coat can be seen on a hook behind him. He is seen leaving (to chase Blair - he says) and seconds later, the power goes off. It is Obvious that Thing-Blair has taken the generator, but had to attack Childs to do it. A later shot, shows that the dark grey coat is missing, before the survivors blow-up the camp. After Macready blows-up Thing-Blair, Childs creeps up behind Macready, now wearing the dark grey coat and asks the telling question "You the only one who made it?" either trying to see if there are any more threats or seeing if Macready himself is now a Thing. Lastly, he fails Macready's test (hence Kurt's smirk) when he drinks from the bottle that Macready passes to him (the rule being - Prepare your own food/drink, due to infection can be passed around, if planted by a Thing) Not trying to be too meta, but the score's Heartbeat-rhythm (which telegraphs the Thing's presence, like at the beginning of the film with the Husky chase) can be heard at the closing of the film (bit like the same musical "sting" heard as Blair jumps out at Gary, is the same one heard when the Thing walks past Fukes in the Lab, earlier)
This is old by now, but in one of the remastered bluray releases they fixed the colour grading on a lot of the movie, including the ending, where you can see that he is indeed still wearing the same blue coat.
2:03 that was a grenade, not a bazooka, dude haha

Its a shame non of the guys spoke that language at the beginning, that guy tried to warn them, he said its not really a dog its some thing just imitating one, get away from it, and our guys just stand there looking stupid. I would have still thought he was nuts at that point but after seeing that melted person with two faces that would have ended it for that dog act right there if I had heard him say all that.
Yeah if anyone on the team could speak Norwegian the movie would have ended in 10 minutes
saw it on the big screen in 1982 ! the audience reaction was as good as the film ! my ex , watched it through her fingers , she covered her face , and wanted to leave , we stayed , it eventually became one of her favorite scifi horror films !
