Al White and Norm Gibbs, the two Jive speaking passengers, wrote their own lines and also coached Barbara Billingsley on her lines. They remained friends for years afterward.

Nielsen is forever Frank Drebin in the Police Squad/Naked Gun series and Bridges for the Hot Shots series. 2) That Robert Stack, at 61, did his own stunts during the fight scene.
So the older lady that speaks Jive to the 2 African American gentlemen on the plane was Barbara Billingsley who played June Cleaver (the Beaver's mom) on Leave it to Beaver. It was kinda a little chuckle since you had the mom from a late 50's sitcom that was an all white cast communicating on screen to a demographic that was never featured on the show that she became famous for. It's easy for it to get forgotten about now.
No, it wasn't that she simply was unexpected - the movie simply could not have picked a more perfect person for that scene. June Cleaver was always dressed up while doing her household chores, with an iconic pearl necklace - who dresses up to clean house? She was completely unflappable in the perfect vanilla-world of the post-War suburbs. Many women grew to hate her character as she symbolized the unattainable role model for all women at the time.
I can't find anyone on RUclips who has reacted to 'Bedazzled' with Brendan Fraser and Elizabeth Hurley. It's one of my favorite movies and Brendan Fraser is trending again!
Yes, they were playing "Stayin' Alive" at a higher pitch - technically, at a faster *speed* which, on those old tape recorders, would consequently change the pitch. Good ear! Most people don't notice that.
Airplane 2 is actually good, its not as great as the original but its definitely worth watching if you liked this one. Has all the same actors in it, its pretty good.
1980 was a great year for comedies. Airplane, The Blues Brothers, Used Cars, Caddyshack and Cheech and Chong’s Next Movie. Check out whatever ones you haven’t seen.🤣
The Blues Brothers is the only movie I've seen on a nearly weekly basis for MONTHS when it first came out. Have the unrated version of it in my library.
In Zucker, Abrahams, Zucker movies you have to watch them more than once. There's always something going on in the backgrounds. Even in the end credits you have to watch all the way through.
I’ve seen this film hundreds of times and i still find things I never noticed before. I just noticed now that the overhead compartments are more like they are on a train where it’s not a compartment but spaces to put small bags, jackets and stuff. I never noticed that before. Always something. New to catch that was just a throwaway gag.
I can't believe it... of all the Airplane reaction vids I've seen so far, I think you're the only one to not only recognize Love Boat's cruise director, but ALSO the Captain's daughter! Awesome 😂
This film is so perfectly silly, it never gets old. The sequel's not bad, it's just more of the same and doesn't hit as well as the first. But a fun watch none the less. For me, this is what a good parody film ought to be: It should be funny even without getting all the references. The jokes and slapstick stand on their own. Loved revisiting this with you 😁
Your laugh is the best thing about your reactions in my opinion and this delivered!!! There is an end credit scene... The guy is still sitting in the cab, looks at his watch and says "Well, I'll give him another 20 minutes, but that's it!!!"... LOL
Prior to "Airplane" and the "Naked Gun" series of TV and feature films, Leslie Nielsen was known for dramas and crime shows, as well as "Tammy and the Bachelor" with leading lady Debbie Reynolds (Carrie Fisher's mother). The "Tammy " franchise had a few different actresses in the lead role including 60's ingenue Sandra Dee and later, Debbie Watson.
The movie is a parody - of an older type of movie they don't make much anymore... Air Disaster films. During the 60's and 70's, Air Disaster movies were all of the place on TV and in theaters, kind of piggybacking on the Natural Disaster films of the time. Most of these movies they were *packed* with celebrities - think Love Boat, but on an airplane and it's gonna crash/blow up, etc. This movie is a parody of most of the elements of a movie called "Zero Hour". Other noteable versions of the actual air disaster films would be "Airport '77" or "SST Deathflight". And some of the natural disaster ones of note would be "Earthquake" and "Meteor"
If you look on RUclips, there is a post that shows scene-by-scene match between Zero Hour and Airplane - makes it a lot funnier when you see some of the things they were trying to spoof.
"Can you fly this plane, and land it?" "Surely you can't be serious." "I am serious... and don't call me Shirley." Classic comedy. Laugh a minute and very quotable. Fun Fact: In a 2008 interview, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar told the story of being on a European flight and asked to sit in an empty seat in the cockpit during takeoff so the crew could say they flew with Roger Murdoch. White-Red Zone Fact: Regarding the argument between announcers concerning the white and red zones at the airport, the producers hired the same voice artists who had made the real-world announcements at Los Angeles International Airport. At the real airport, the white zone is for loading and unloading of passengers only, and there's no stopping in the red zone (except for transit buses). They were also married to each other in real life. Casting Choice Fact: Jim Abrahams, David Zucker, and Jerry Zucker chose actors such as Robert Stack, Lloyd Bridges, Peter Graves, and Leslie Nielsen because of their reputation for playing no-nonsense characters. Until this film, these actors had not done comedy, so their "straight-arrow" personas and line delivery made the satire in the movie all the more poignant and funny. Bridges was initially reluctant to take his role in the movie, but his sons persuaded him to do it.
Prior to Airplane, Lloyd Bridges, Peter Graves, Robert Stack and Leslie Nielsen were all dramatic actors. This was their first comedy. “Airplane! (alternatively titled Flying High!)[5] is a 1980 American parody film written and directed by the brothers David and Jerry Zucker, and Jim Abrahams in their directorial debuts,[6] and produced by Jon Davison. It stars Robert Hays and Julie Hagerty and features Leslie Nielsen, Robert Stack, Lloyd Bridges, Peter Graves, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, and Lorna Patterson.[6] It is a parody of the disaster film genre, particularly the 1957 Paramount film Zero Hour!, from which it borrows its plot and central characters,[7] also drawing many elements from Airport 1975 and other films in the Airport series. It is known for its use of surreal humor and fast-paced slapstick comedy, including visual and verbal puns, gags, running jokes, and obscure humor.”

Five years before the movie, a food poisoning incident occurred on a Japan Airlines flight. Nearly 200 people got sick from contaminated omelets. Fortunately, the pilots were already close to the destination and were able to make an emergency landing. It was by pure luck that the pilots didn’t eat the omelets. Their biological clocks were still on Alaska time and they had ordered steak dinners instead. The incident resulted in a recommendation that pilots and passengers be served different meals.
Classic for sure. So many jokes in this movie. Every time you laugh you end up missing 5 other jokes. Leslie Nelson was the best in all the parody movies.
So great to have a reactor who gets the old jokes! I thought for sure you were gonna leave in "Win one for the Zipper!" No one gets that one anymore. Great Job even if the editing was a bit aggressive.
Top Secret by the same ppl right after this is funny. Stars a new Val Kilmer. Airplane 2 is not the same producers/writer/director. It’s ok for some of the jokes, but it’s like watching fans try to do Airplane jokes.
1:10 one pilot said in a reaction video that while it hasn’t happened in real life, some pilots have admitted to getting pretty close to recreating that type of accident.
1. I guess I picked the wrong week to stop watching "first time reaction" Airplane clips. 2. Little things to look for: Ted was in the Air Force but at the bar he's wearing a Navy Lt. Uniform. One of the fish was a freshwater catfish. Captain Kramer steps out of a mirror before leaving for the airport. The woman with the horse in bed is the creepy Captain Oveur's wife. She is also hitting on Captain Kramer. It's a jet but the background noise is of a prop plane. 3. Otto/Auto pilot has his own web page on IMDB 4. Elaine has permission to sit on MY face.😍😋 5. This is a movie you must watch more than once to catch little things. 6. IMVHO Airplane II is better. Destination moon. I saw it first. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
I think the sequel to Airplane is quite good, but what is less often mentioned is its predecessor in this genre, namely "The Big Bus " (1976), which is also quite successful and offers the same kind of humor.
I used to have The Big Bus. I can't find it anymore. I saw it on television long before Airplane! came out. I don't think it's a matter of remembering so much as not even knowing it existed. I loved Ruth Gordon in it. " You eat one lousy foot, they call you a cannibal. "
May I suggest the film "Top Secret"? Also a parody, but this time of war/spy thrillers. One thing to be clear about, though, is that it's very unclear when the movie is supposedly taking place. As long as you're not expecting it to be historically accurate (as in 'rock and roll' while the Nazi's are around), you'll be fine, and it's as funny as this. Plus it has at least one big name in it. After _that,_ I would suggest "Spaceballs". You seem like you might be familiar with all the movies it makes reference to (and it's a _lot_ of movies). Several big names in there. Rick Moranis, John Candy, Bill Pullman, Joan Rivers, other's I can't remember off the top of my head.
I’ve said it before but you have the most infectious laugh, and I absolutely love it! I’m so happy you enjoyed this movie, even though it’s quite dated with some of the jokes, our generation gets it.

I've always felt like Barbara Billingsley in the jive-talking grandma role is one of the most inspired casting choices ever. Absolutely perfect.
She was taught by those two guys as well on the talk.
Those two guys wrote all of the jive lines.

Kat Reacts did it. Fraser is excellent in it but it’s still barely worth a bag of popcorn. Fraser and Pesci are phenomenal in With Honors.

There’s another same after the closing credits. In fact the closing credits are worth reading because they contain additional comedy.
OMG someone finally recognized Jimmy Walker!
IKR? So far this is the only reaction vid that called it.
The guy who played Captain Kramer was Robert Stack. He hosted the show "Unsolved Mysteries".
Robert Stack who played Rex Kramer was also the host of unsolved mysteries.
And he played Special Agent Eliot Ness in "The Untouchables" in the sixties.
2:08 That IS Jimmy Walker Kid Dynomite himself 😀 About everybody in the theater recognized him in 1980.
JJ from Goodtimes was in this movie for a brief moment. DYNOMITE!!!
Airplane 2 is actually good, its not as great as the original but its definitely worth watching if you liked this one. Has all the same actors in it, its pretty good.
