Yes!! I raised freshwater fish professionally in Sweden before moving to America and then turned saltwater and have never looked back.....be careful! You picked a really nice setup....have fun!
@@josephmancuso6521 depends. The salinity checker is recommended to calibrate about once a month or so for max accuracy. All the lfs I've been to sell the packets for less than $1 each. It amounts to less than what it would be to buy the calibration fluid for a refractometer
foxchase 72 thanks for that info! What are your thoughts on an Apera pc60 5 in 1? They’re like 50$ more than the Hanna but they also do pH and TDS which is nice. I just have a FOWLR tank for now but I figured it’s best to get the right equipment now for when I get some corals/gsp next month
This video came right on time! Setting up my first salt water tank not sure of the gallons yet but anywhere from 75-125. My husband is not into the hobby so it’s just me going from freshwater to saltwater.
You followed me a while back when I was doing terrarium and freshwater, I have been in the saltwater hobby for about 7 months after studying for like 12 months! I love that you guys are doing saltwater now, I’ve gotta do an update walking thru my sumped 40 breeder setup!
I grew up near the ocean, sadly I had to move away when I was 14. Every time I go to the beach/scuba diving reminds me of when I was little. Building my first reef tank has been a dream, having that little piece of the ocean at home. Great video!
It looks beautiful! I'm really interested in trying one. Not planning on having any fish but I'd love to have some decorations. Just need to do some research first because I don't really have any knowledge about these things.
Me too i have 3 freshwater tanks for 5 years and i just set up a saltwater tank like 2 weeks ago cause it takes almost 1 month for the water to get rigth but its looking nice coral growing fast and fish big and healthy
Tank looks great. You are definitely doing it right! You may want to move the skimmer into the second chamber. I feel like it will get clogged up easily in the sock. You will probably have to change air blocks less too. Along for the ride!
RODI unit is good if you have larger tank requiring more water change volume and if you have an accessible water supply. i’m also planning to do a refugium or skimmer... either/or, maybe both.
Lesson learned I bought a EXT IM Lagoon 25, do yourself a favor and get the tank with the AIO, save yourself a lot of money not having to buy a sump big return pump and an expensive skimmer. This tank looks amazing, easy to be successful without a lot of money to spend.
Looks great ! You are going to need to turn the MP10 so that the cord is pointing up. This takes stress off the cord and keeps the motor from falling off the tank. Also you might want to take a look at the Tunze 9001 DC Skimmer, it fits in the center chamber and is a proper skimmer for reefkeeping.
Nice setup. I just jumped right in to a saltwater tank myself. Quinn you should switch to Stagg so you can teach my kids 😁 I’ll help you move the tanks lol
Nice 👍 Prediction: Eventually you’ll switch out that ReefGlass skimmer for something much better like a Tunze Comline DOC skimmer. For now you might considering buying a skimmer waste collector with float switch to avoid overflows.
You have probably addressed this by now but the level sensor should not be placed in the exit chamber. If the system gets slightly clogged, and it will, the level in the last chamber will lower and definatelly it can and will overflow your tank. cheers
Hey! Nice tank! I started my waterbox 20 cube about 4 months ago as well. First time in the saltwater hobby. Been doing fresh for over 20 plus years. Right now I have 2 clowns, 2 scarlet hermits, 2 blue legged hermits, and 4 trochus snails. Corals- frogspawn, hammer, acan, gsp, purple Xenia, mushroom, fox. Very similar to yours without the fire shrimp. Are you planning to add any other fish? I really want to add a royal gramma or pink streaked wrasse, at least a green clown goby but I also want to keep bio load low. If you plan on adding a fish what would you get? Thanks and looking forward to your next update!
Thanks for watching! I might not get any more fish for awhile, but will be adding more corals soon. Down the line a bit I might add a goby, but not sure yet
Welcome to the salt life, you should buy a smart power bar, that way you can control equipment from your phone, specially when doing water changes. unless your going to go the controller route. Good luck, looks good👍✅
Did you already give out the info for your desk/stand carpenter? I’m considering a similar setup in my home office space. Your setup is great and I can’t wait to follow along.
Cool video. How quiet is the unit? And are you able to get a low flow put of the pump that comes with the unit? I was looking at getting the Peninsula 15 for my home office and doing a planted Betta tank but don't want to blast the hell of him with some water return that's too powerful.
I love both sides of the aquarium hobby. I have both fresh and salt. It’s expensive but worth it. Both are beautiful just saltwater has so much more rules and complications. It’s a big headache especially when you encounter ich... because eventually you will😂
Nice. Let me ask you, the company say, it is also possible to use the Waterbox 20 Cube as a freshwater aquarium. Is it loud? I think to use it in the room of my son. But I am not sure if it is too noisy. Thank you.
When you first added all the water to ur tank was is the water u bought from ur local pet store? And if so how do you know if the salinity would be correct?
New tank you won’t need a protein skimmer until you have a bio load! Also you’ll need to get the air bubbles smaller to catch the dissolved organic waste should skim dry
Hello and thank you for posting this video. Is it possible that you can show a video without music in the background just to see how loud or not loud the tank is when running? My spouse is concerned about the noise level. Thank you in advance
@@TOMReefer thank you! sorry for the late reply - just saw this comment. I actually learned a lot from your videos prior to the setup - you'll probably see a lot of similarities between our tanks!

Thanks! Old orchard had a great mix of salt and fresh water. Aquarium adventure has a larger selection overall, but old orchard seems to have the best saltwater
Is that CaribSea live rock? If so what package is that? Also with your protein skimmer, each time that you restart it do you have to prime it every time?
I have a question. I have the fluval flex 15 and don’t like the vibration and noise of my pump. Is your sicce super quiet ans are there any others that are just as quiet as the sicce but a little more cost efficient
Congrats on having EVERYTHING before setting up. Was gonna say you probably don't need the skimmer turned on until you add fish but it looks like you had it off in the reveal. Really love the scape too! Do you know which direction you're going with coral? Some great stores in Chicago - Tank It Easy is probably the closest to you. Looks like you're in the city. The one thing I recommend is switching out that refractometer for a Hanna salinity checker. Makes life so much easier and no guessing
