I'm really impressed with the locking rear diff. Most manufacturers would have given it some useless Rock and Dirt mode and called it good.
Is it really a real rear diff lock though? Looking at Ford's website and going through a build for '24, what I see advertised is a Electronic Limited Slip Diff, is that what that button turns on and off? If there really is a real electronic rear diff locker, I don't see it mentioned on their website.
😂 Major mistake guys. You should’ve tried Ford Trail control on which is equivalent to crawl control by Toyota. I use it all the time in greasy situations rock crawling and on Sand dunes, it works like a charm. and I agree the tires are not that great.
My 03 expedition XLT is lifted 3in with 285/70R17 mud claws and has gone through and over almost all the trails I've been on in and around Idaho
Did you try it with traction control on at any point? Iv watched tfl do this with Toyotas many times which essentially shuts off A-trac which is needed for this kinda situation.
Kind of painful to watch. But tires can make a huge difference, and if you're paying the timberland price...it should include better tires.
They did this same hill in the expy limited trim easy, crazy how tires can affect performance so much.
I have an 03 expedition Eddie Bauer edition. It came with 4 high and 4 low 4 auto. Has the tow hooks all around but they are black. I’ve taken her on the beach a lot. Thought about getting the timberline to be better sooted for mild off roading. I’m not too happy with the motor in mine. 5.4L triton motor has some known issues. I did add Falken wildpeak AT3 tires. They’ve been great
I took the oem tires off mines and put on wild peaks. Thing is unstoppable
Boom!
Seems like you WANT the traction control on if you want the maximum slow speed torque shifting.
You turn the TC off if you WANT wheelspin.
But I dont know the details of Fords system.
I'm really surprised! but I've gotta say, that hill looks very different than it did 2 years ago
That is no joke!
How does Sequoia Trd pro do
That episode is also live now
Should have used rock crawl. Sand and mud and ruts allows more wheel spin.
Rock crawl is not a drive mode on timberline. But we hear you.
Anyone else wondering why the front 2 wheels are not spinning at all in the first of offroading to get over that little hill?
Lift and better tires and better drivers would change things. But for that money idk. Also it’s a long wheel base and they tend not to do as well as shorter ones
The last expedition TFL tested last year didn't do very well. 4wd overheated and stopped working. This 9ne has a pretty crappy traction control system. That front tire wasnt getting any power.
That was years ago. They retested the same one and and then a Timberline and they both did amazing.

Kinda like a package of bologna that reads “all beef” 😂
Is it really the tire? Need to show with other tire for proof. Big Fail for the Timberline.
Yes, check out our other expedition hill test.
What’s the depreciation value after a decade compared to Toyota or Honda?
really bad off-road drivers and bad off-road system and tires....
That's mini van is not for off-road. 😅
BLAME the tires???? NO WAY
Got to hold down the traction control button down for 10 second and turn that horrible altrac system off
With Fords on slow hill crawls like this, you want to leave the traction control on.
To back my claim on this, watch the last clip at timestamp 3:13 in my Expedition off-roading video.
It's on worn street tires and I didn't do any left-foot-braking. All I did was hold the throttle pedal steady.
So the rear diff lock did nothing? Ford has a dud here. Timberline is basically an appearance package at this point. I’d stick with the regular 4x4 model and avoid the challenging stuff.
Yea, it locked the two rear tires together, neither of which were grabbing any traction.
You can literally hear them just going over the terrain, not trying at all.
A locking diff and low range is not "basically an appearance package" lol.
@@LookingRound I saw no proof on this video that both rear tires were spinning together. I will immediately agree with you if you can refer me to a point in the video which proves both tires were spinning together. There are other videos that show that the system overheats and doesn’t work properly.
Driver error. With me behind the wheel I would go down that road no problem.
No front Difl-ock = 👎
I wish this car have a boeing 737 engine!
No real expedition then😄
P r o m o s m 😋
Shitty tires are shitty tires
No, need a Seqouia Trd Pro! 😂
Facts, for offroad the sequoia w8ns hands down. Swapping back to a solid acle made a big difference in articulation.
Oh boy, stay tuned, that’s next in the edit queue.
The Seqouia TRD was not any better on the same hill!
@@Jackmerius_Tacktheretrix Ummm NO, you are wrong! The Toyota was not any better on the same hill
You got off road modes but you ruin them by turning the TC off, what a useless test.
We tried it in both modes, not all cuts made the episode due to repetitiveness.
Tfl does this same thing with Toyotas all the time. Shuts off traction control and wonders why it won’t transfer power in the front.
Bump the brakes and the front would have locked up.
