Thank you for recommending the game at the end of the video. It truly is a modern System Shock 2 yet is being underappreciated critically at the moment. Easily one of the best games I've played recently and arguably the best true immersive sim released in the past decade.
Prey 2006: First thing you see is a functional mirror.
Prey 2017: Mirrors are blurry static images.
Making a sharp, realtime mirror is actually not that easy and can introduce too much rendering time. Blurry, inaccurate ones were fine back then it seems... I can't really explain this trend too well either.
Seems like fully functional mirrors are rare in modern games.
technically its the same thing in prey 2017, you select your gender in a shot of both female and male morgan yu in the mirror.
Deferred rendering in modern games hates mirrors.

tbh all multiplatform titles should aim to optimize pc then port for consoles, it's the best way to ensure future compatibilities for consoles especially with the mid gen "update" consoles like Scorpio or ps4 pro
That is not possible it is much easyer to optimise games for consoles then for pcs.Mostly the best games comes out first on consoles and then pc.
As a PC gamer I am loving the quality content DF is putting out.
144fps on PC with midrange GPU's vs 30fps on consoles. 4K and higher on PC vs 1080p on consoles. Increased graphical details, shadows, textures and draw distance on PC.

it will cost you around $420 if you include keyboard,mouse and other peripherals.
IF your build has the budget for a 1050Ti you really should spend a bit more and get the RX 570.
~400$ for a budget pc with a 1050ti, but I'd suggest to invest 700-800$ to get a better experience.
Be careful, Adam! Ripan's PC Partpicker build is good, accept one potential problem. The MoBo is last-gen and the CPU is current gen. They may be incompatible without a BIOS update for the MoBo. And that mean's you'll need to put a last gen CPU in the Board first...
Been playing it on Xbox One S, no problems what so ever, and been having a great time with the game.

v2 controller and wired to system, noob.
Every issue I had in the game was from playing the ps4 demo and when I played the full game on PC, everything was better.

first of all i have a "v2" , secondly people should NOT, I REPEAT, SHOULD NOT, have to buy new controllers and have them plugged 24/7 to work around issues, issues the devs are aware of, issues that are their responsibility, issues they acknowledged but just didnt fix as they promised for launch.

Well so far I have seen 4 different accounts and I'm wondering if therer are even 4 different people behind them, or if it's just one guy roleplaying as different butthurt fanboys bashing eachother.
I can't speak for the other prince dizzy accounts but i only have 2 accounts my original and this one. I just started doing this because the original prince dizzy would go on every video and saying some bullshit like "really liking the console focused contant digital foundry i suspect the pc version will have lots of problems as usual" or something like that. I just started doing this to fuck with him. I normally don't even comment on a digital foundry video i stay away from that stuff. Besides just by looking at our spelling you can see we are not one person.

Great analysis per usual. All I can add is this . . . if your an old school FPS gamer and a System Shock 2 fan then Prey should be played immediately, at full price. It will be worth every penny!
This feels wrong. How come they advertise it as PS4 Pro enhanced game while it takes no real advantage of the extra hardware and produces the exact same quality and the regular PS4 ?

Nice review but saying the 1060 and 580 are "low end hardware" is, imo, not true as they are more around midrange. The 1050ti and 460-470 would have definitely been better as they are budget options.

Glad I have this game on my SSD for now. The super fast loading times are great. I would hate having to wait ~40 seconds!!
I started replaying the PC version yesterday for the first time since I discovered that all my save files for the game had vanished when I went over to Windows 11 and the weirdest and best bug happened!
I got to the part where you're about to see the message from yourself before your brother denies you access, then straight after that bit happened I went over to the locker where The Margrave(pre-order bonus shotgun) along with some other stuff is located.
I quickly took the stuff from the locker and for some reason the game decided to instantly give and install an absolute tonne of Neuromods for me the moment I grabbed the stuff, it gave me hours and hours worth of Neuromods right near the start of the game!
It's like the game was apologising for wiping my save files haha!

That's how it should always be when it comes to multiplat games. Those that pay for higher end hw should never be gimped over those that refuse to upgrade and stay with the current flow.
Whenever PC gets a bad port job, we know the devs were either being lazy or the game was designed for the console first and PC last, which makes it easier for me to drop supporting devs who go about with either of those reasons.

I was surprised at the performance of this game on pc. I still play on a an old oc Titan Black and I got close to 60fps avarage on 3440x1440 with settings to max except for shadows that I had to turn down to medium and AF to x8. There was a dip here or there for no apparant reason but overall really good. I had no room on my SSD so I had it installed on my mechanical drive, loading times are at around 15-25 seconds on area changes or first loadup and around 5-10 seconds on quickloads or respawns within the same area.
I played the ps4 demo and the input lag is so awful. I bought the pc version and it was amazing. It feels so natural
Arkane Studios didnt make Dishonored 2. If they did, it would run like a champ just like Dishonored 1 and Prey. The second game was made by a developer who used to make games for mobile.
Although this is not Prey in anyway, I really dig this game and glad that it is optimized on PC. It's hard to forgive Bethesda for fucking up Prey 2 but Arkane did a beautiful job making this game. Was not disappointed.

It also depends on the game. On ssd in my PC takes about 15 seconds to load fallout 4 at first but the witcher 3 takes only about a second when you transfer to another area. In my ps4 the witcher 3 takes about 2 minutes first load and about 30 seconds when traveling to another area. SSD on PC is worth every penny.
Not playing the game at all is even better.
The prettiest part of this game is the gold plated shotgun I got for preordering lol. With that said it's pretty insane to see my 1080 Ti only hitting 80% usage at 1440p 144fps locked with settings maxed out to the limit. Oh and running from an SSD load times never exceed 15-20 seconds. And like the reviewer said, DON'T install the latest "Game Ready" driver from Nvidia. After I updated to it I encountered tons of stutter in Prey. Rolling back to the previous driver fixed the issue completely.
obviously the pc is the way to go, but if i were to get this on console, i would get the xbox version, due to the input lag issues on the ps4
yea sucks Arkane cant do their job. Not sure why they even released on PS4 if it wasn't even going to run acceptably.
Game looks outdated, despite the Cryengine. Just using the ancient DirectX 11. There isn't much for PC gamers with a high-end graphics card, the game runs already at insane speed with a mid range graphics card...
They really didn't bother with optimisation, I'm surprised by the multiple flaws the gameconsole versions have.
Consoles are the ones who offer better gaming experience.
So.. buy now for about 38€ or wait until it's cheaper? Reading about savegame corruption and driver stuttering tends more to wait til cheaper.

This game is the reason Im upgrading to the ryzen 1600 from an i5 4690k. anyone considering an i5 for gaming: dont. people like to talk about "higher averages" on the i5s but what they dont tell you is that that means they can get 200fps looking at the sky and 30 fps during normal gameplay (like virtually all games do for me on mine.)

This is a very unfortunate thing. It says Ps4 pro enhanced on the box but the game is definitely not enhanced. Instead we are waiting for a patch which we don't know when. I bought this game to play the best way on my ps4 pro and 4k TV but now I have to wait for a patch?
This game can run smoothly on a normal pc but you didn't care to give pro owners 4k res, or better quality textures or even 60fps!
As customers who trusted in Arkane Studios and Bethesda and bought this game we deserve better and hope get a proper pro patch as soon as possible

I don't know what angers me more, that the PS4 Pro isn't supported, or that the Prey package falsely claims it is. This is just false advertisement and it sucks. Glad I decided to buy the PC version.
It says "PS4 pro ENHANCED" on the package. Enhanced means "better". Better on PS4 Pro. Which is not true.

Well when I heard of them using the Cryengine I knew this would run like shit on the Pro. I personally think they should of used the id tech 6 engine instead. The same engine as Doom IV ran on. They might of even gotten it to run at 1080 60fps. The even crazier part is Cryengine's actually more costly and really doesn't benefit consoles all to well.
Prey on PC will pretty much run on any average system. How they couldn't get this to run at 60 fps with a mix of med/high settings on the PS4 Pro is bit ridiculous.

I bought PS4 Pro and sold my PS4 and i cannot be more happier. Sure Prey may not offer that much on PS4 Pro ( maybe in the future) but man nothing beats playing 4k games on my 4k samsung TV. And yes , im fine with 30fps (coming from a PC gamer on 144hz gsync monitor)

PC is the clear winner here. But the console versions look fine if you don't compare directly to PC

Sean Robertson There is literally no difference between the PS4 and the Pro, that's called laziness. Even if the weak cpu limits it to 30fps, there should be plenty of headroom for higher resolution, which is not cpu bound.

Although this game uses the Prey name, it is NOT Prey. I wasn't going to buy it until I found out that the devs seem to be pushing the PC more than the console which is rare. I think I may pick this one up.

The XBOXONE update is at fault, I also have a lot of issues with games in any external drive, ever sense the update it messed up the games in the external drive, as Microsoft wants people to download the games again, for some reason I don't know.

I completely missed this game when it was released, I loved the dishonoured series, they remind me of the Bioshock games, but they are so underrated.
Prey looks like it’s the same, another great Arkane game that no one plays.
Maybe they don’t promote them enough, because I hadn’t even heard of this game till I was looking through gamepass. Arkane just don’t seem to get the attention that they deserve.
Mick Gordon is a very good sound designer / music composer... but for this one, he goes a bit too much on the boombastic tech/indus music... the final version muffled and a bit softer is much better ! this is when you come from DOOM to a game of cat and mouse survival :p

Loads far quicker than 44secs on my ps4 pro using an external ssd.

I'm playing on Xbox and personally I have not experienced any issues with an external drive. There could be a multitude of variables in that issue though.

So, they actually made a PC game but left out the field of view slider, depth of field and motion blur toggles. Okay. I might be interested when fully patched and lowered price.
I feel bad for the console guys stuck with the 5400rpm HDDs and slow Blu-Ray drives. They're just not optimal for gaming.
I remember after playing Dark Souls 3 on PC (installed on a Samsung 850 evo) for a few weeks, I bought it for the PS4 (disc copy) to play with some friends, and those loading times made me want to kill myself.

MarginalSC yes but the guidelines by Pony are so fucking vague that this counts as Pro support. the hardware of the pro is used, but with the same settings as base PS4 while said base PS4 already runs as good as it is able to with said settings
