10:38 "Air-powered vertical monorail looks too intense for me."
LOL
10:38 Finally, a transport ride with some intensity.
Cursed
One thing to also consider is that with its amazingly high stats, it makes for a great park value booster.
Completely forgot to mention it, but you're entirely right!
Love the Park Value Bomb!! Thanks again for that one, Marcel
10:38 Ah yes, my favourite ride, the Extreme Subway
It's almost a tradition now to have the cursed park at the end of the video.
@@JohnnyCasey Cursed parks are the best parks
aka. the london aboveground
10:00 The requirement for the APVC to be a complete circuit was dropped from OpenRCT2 for parity with RCT1. Which means that that design will also work nicely in RCT1.
I like how the air powered vertical coaster makes a better reverse freefall coaster than the actual reverse freefall coaster does.
When I built coasters of this type when I was playing the game as a kid the guests never wanted to ride it, I was confused at the time, but now I know that the vertical g’s were probably extremely high
You will inevitably hit the soft-penalty zone on this ride where the negative vertical Gs are exceeding the point where they give more excitement. The only way to avoid it is to simply not have it crest the hill and make it function like a vertical freefall coaster.
Oh, I forgot to mention, it is really easy to hit the intensity only increase region on the vertical hill (to the point that it is sometimes not worth avoiding it, just being aware of it), and difficult to avoid lateral G penalties on the turns (which you almost always want to avoid.)
I think we all had that issue as a kid. I remember making some awesome wooden coasters and I had no idea you needed to bank curves.
Either that or extreme negative Gs or more likely extreme laterals
10:15 "[...] it only works if you use Open RCT2, which most of you probably are tho".
Here I am sitting, having watched hours of content of your channel, watching every new video when it comes out and never in my life, have I touched or even seen RCT2 in real.
I just really enjoy listening to you talk about it.
Same here haha, used to play RCT3 when i was younger though
I love how Marcel's voice has got more peppy over time :)
As most people have noticed, it uses the same tower structure as the Launched Freefall tower. I didn't know till this past week that these are both based on S&S ride models.
And both use the same compressed air launch technology
I squealed with delight when you mentioned the real-world counterpart! I understand that this was a more special case and don't expect it in every video but I absolutely would love to see any notable (such as a world-record as you did) real-world parallels in any future video. Or perhaps a separate shorts series or one long video showcasing some of the existing examples of in-game rides.
And of course your voice is as pleasing and affable as always. Dropped right on my way to work and I finished the video as I parked. Perfect way to start the he shift! Thank you.

this is a Marcel Vos quality level video that I've watched at least 4 times explaining almost every real life inspiration
I agree. I'd love to see comparisons with real world coasters that the game is based on
ElToroRyan is the best 'real-world' equivalent to Marcel ..dude does technical/operations and historical deep dives on particular rides/parks and includes tons of great real-world footage
I wanted to comment the same thing! Please Marcel it would be amazing
@@joyoustye2326 JNattyBoi has some videos comparing coasters from the RCT series to real life counterparts
The huge monorail train on the air track had me dead
I just LMAO with that scene 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
FYI, Do-Dodonpa's acceleration is equal to about 3.2Gs.
Which is equivalent to a Space Shuttle launch for 1.6 seconds
The last design (just half a spike) also works in RCT1. Not letting it work in RCT2 or Classic is an annoying change.
TBH, I think it's kinda cheating because there already is the freefall coaster, which basicly does that, but not as good.
So allowing the air powered coaster to not complete a circuit, makes the freefall coaster completley useless...
@@Robbedem except the air powered coaster is unlocked way later than the reverse freefall usually though, so at least the latter has that advantage
@@Robbedem Yeah, I like how the air powered vertical coaster makes a better reverse freefall than the reverse freefall does.
For that last design with only half the vertical spike, it should be noted that this is possible to build in Vanilla RCT1 (which is actually where I first discovered it.) Funny enough, it's a SIGNIFICANTLY more efficient design than the Reverse Free Fall Coaster. Also, if you extend the launch a bit further, you can get a rather rare combination of EIN stats:
(Very high)
(High)
(High)
Marcel i just found your channel 2 weeks ago but I've already watched every one of them and now I'm on the newest releases! :D you make it fun to play rct2 again, these videos are so helpful, I put them on in the background while doing scenarios. Thank you for everything you do!
The only reason you also want as high excitement as possible on the air powered vertical coaster is that intensity has a practical cap of 10 over which you get a penalty and almost no guests will ride the ride. Hence, to get more money, just up the next best choice: Excitement!
I wish there were more piece types available, even if those pieces weren't used in real life coasters, it would extend the rollercoaster fantasy elements of the game
@0:38 it's also the coaster that sometimes fractures the bones of the riders :)
True story
That scene for the end card is absolutely brilliant
I have to thank you Marcel for making the game fun again for me - the little corkscrew coasters were a total game changer - thank you once again!
Been watching your videos for a 8-12 months now and I love them. I’m more a casual player and I’ve learned a lot from you.
Before I saw your vids I knew nothing about OpenRCT2. Thanks man. It’s changed my life and the way I play RCT.
I want to see you make the biggest and most beautiful/aesthetically pleasing versions you can of each coaster type
Love this coaster type. I got to ride one once and it was something else!
I haven't played RCT in probably 10 years, but I cant help but watch all your videos
I really like your videos. When I got notified I thought - I'l grab beer and watch something worth this evening :D
Always a joy when you upload ❤
The favorite coaster type of most in the thoosie community.
AiRtImE bRo !
What the heck is going on with those air-powered monorail cars in the outro?! 😆
just noticed: your channel has nearly 100.000 subscribers. WoW 😯 keep it up Marcel 😄❤
that park during the end screen though. some interesting cars on some of those rides
How high do you have to build the other coaster types before the cost will surpass the building cost of this one?
I just love these videos!!
Finally something of worth to watch.
"If you remove the brakes the right time shortens." -Marcel Vox
The air powered coaster can also be used as a reverse free fall coaster with a higher capacity.
6:08, hmmm, if a guest who prefers less intense rides (pref intensity
@Peters6221 ah that's very true, good call
Do you know if this ride has a higher breakdown tendency than other coasters, even if set to the maximum inspection wait time of 10 minutes? Because the real life coaster model this is based on was notoriously unreliable, at least in the U.S. when one was built at Kings Dominion.
This is true! I rode King Da Ka, which has this general design, some years ago and I remember waiting over an hour after the park closed, because I was in line when it broke down at night.
9:40 this reminds me of those intamin first generation freefall towers, like Cedar Point used to have
I absolutly love the coaster at 6:15.
I just wanna point out that since you don't have any support cost, you can stack the design you show at 8:50 pretty efficiently for an ultra high density park.
Thanks Marcel
In Vanilla RCT2, you can also build a shuttle coaster design where there's a large hill right after the station that the train doesn't make, then the same thing on the other end of the station. You just need to connect the two hills with some dummy track, so the game doesn't complain.
and whit a random glitch, remove the dummy track (Need 2 helixes in a row and a piece under the 1st helix (or whatever else that work) underneat the dummy track)
The Tower of Terror in Dreamworld, Australia launches people at 160kph and I've been on it, it's really cool. I'd love to try the Dodonpa
Edit: it's design is like the one way launched coaster at the end of this video, it doesn't loop lol
And you can get some of the most ultra extreme intensity ratings if you build an air powered vertical coaster if you build with unbanked turns
lol dat laatste shot met die monorails
Marcel Vos the Boss!
can we get either stand up twister or the twister coaster next, please and thank you, love your channel by the way, never miss a video
brakes lower the throughput... but increase the realism. sometimes, it's not about optimizing and you just want a park that looks nice - that's fair, too.
There we go
Request: your Top 10 Best rides!
If I'm not mistaken, you can also open incomplete designs in the original RCT1.
I play the mobile version of RCT2 and love it although it can be annoying selecting things precisely
You can make straight banked pieces, I think it looks better for small oval shaped coasters.
RIP Dododonpa
Marcel you should try completing urban jungle only building in the massive skyscraper at the middle of the park or do it like in the crazy castle vid where you made it all plain
It would be nice if it had some more elements, maybe take some inspiration from rides like MaxxForce for new pieces
0:42 0-180 km/h over 1.6 seconds is an acceleration of 31.25 m/s^2 (3.19g of acceleration).
The full circuit requirement also wasn't present in RCT1, which is why OpenRCT2 has the option as well.
That design at the end, before the hacked one looks like something I’ve built.
before watching this vid i noticed my air powered vertical coaster in gemini city had red negative vertical Gs so I tried to diagnose it using the debugging menu, noticed it's at the top sections of every spike except for the really tall one that it barely makes it over, and tried to fix it by reducing the launch speed and raising/lowering said problematic spikes. After a while I just gave up and left it with worse stats than before i tried to improve it :p
What if somebody built a coaster that is like this but it goes down at a 90 degree angle, does a side-angle tophat, causing the riders to hang upside down after going around the bend? Would they grey out?
Dododonpa is such a good name
How did I know your advice would be to throw all forms of safety to the wind. Very on brand
I can't get any of the ride tracks he makes uploaded onto my version OpenRCT2 :( I've tried looking at reddit and stuff for help, but no such luck. Does anyone have any advice, or maybe instructions on how he built them?
The Last design (Powered Launch) also works in basic RCT 1 (Loopy Landscapes), no idea why it got changed in RCT 2 and onwards though.
Btw. did i miss the stats requirements?
He did mention it, briefly - drop height of 25m. Cuts excitement in 4 if failed, does not change intensity or nausea.
The train looks like a rollerskate.
Please please please do an overview of the inverted coaster. I like it, but it has no air time bonus, very high intensity and linking two small loops seems impossible. Getting a savable inverted coaster coaster with an excitement of 10 (no water or underground bonus and no other ride interaction bonus) seems impossible.
You indeed cannot interlock two inverted loops, as Marcel explains in his interlocking loops video.
I like how the last design is just a glorified reverse freefall coaster
One thing I've always wondered, would it be possible to make an OpenRCT2 mod that automatically sets all ticket prices to the highest guests will pay for (including updating them when circumstances change)?
That's literally the plugin I mentioned! openrct2plugins.org/plugin/MDEwOlJlcG9zaXRvcnkyNjc3NjU4NTM=/openrct2-ride-price-manager
@@MarcelVos Great!
9:54
The requirement of being a complete circuit is also not in vanilla RCT1
Is there a plugin that tweaks ride prices to be optimal at any given time?
Sounds like itd be a bitch to code but MAN would that be useful
Yes. Been a while since I used it, but it exists.
Ride price manager.
I use it all the time. Allows me to focus on building nice rides, and still get money without micromanaging.
I still feel t should have had more that one possible top piece; the one we have that goes straight forward, one that goes to the side creating a u-turn, and one that makes a corner.
I recommend using a giant U instead of a single side.
Station brake failures have claimed the lives of MANY of my peeps over the years
I don’t even play the game tbh I just watch to listen to you talk
6:00 This ride is fine for Gentle Glen!
Yeah that design works if you guests are a bit happy, but it's a terrible ride so you're much better off using something else. Any reasonable Air Powered Coaster design is too intense.
@@MarcelVos Exactly!
Does referbing the RC reset the timer on the age? So could you continually just keep referbing it as the age gets to 5 months?
Yes, but i think it costs as much as it would to delete it and rebuild it (so, new price minus whatever demolishing the old one is worth). Its basically saving you doing those steps.
Could you have multiple trains on a launched coaster if you had multiple stations?
That depends on what you mean by a "launched coaster". A coaster in continuous circuit mode that uses booster pieces rather than a lift hill is effectively a launched coaster that can run multiple trains and have multiple stations. A coaster in reverse-incline or powered launch mode can only have one station, meanwhile, but the LIM coaster in powered launch block-sectioned mode can run multiple trains.
can you please do a video on how to set prices on food/drink stores
Already did that.
What track pieces does this rollercoaster feature? Is it good for scenarios with lots of uneven terrain?
Just the station, straight, medium turns with optional banking, large flat-to-vertical and vice versa pieces, vertical, and the top hat.
This is just so intimidating to watch. I would never ride one in real life.
It should have twisted track pieces like Kingda Ka
Man I wish Hypersonic XLC was still a thing.
At the last 30s monorail with air powered track looks super weird
What the monorail 😂😂😂 water you tryna do, imitate The Beast? LUL
Everytime you say "soft guest cap" I imagine a piece of clothing
10:19 curious to see the stats of this beauty
10:38 - Im still not sure if its cursed or not.
But requires half of your total guests just to fill it up...
Die 400 € mögen nett wirken, aber wie viel zahlst du in 30 Jahren?
Da wird dir in einigen Jahren aber ganz schön schwindelig.
i’m always scared to put this one in my park because of how intense it looks😭the poor little peeps will get whiplash at the top
"Air Powered Vertical Launch Coaster looks too intense for me" ..!
The OPness of the RMC Hybrid in Open makes the Thrust Air/Air Powered coaster feel rather useless
6:34 you call it a bug. How do we know it is a bug? I mean I agree, this update does make sense. But does it mean that Chris Sawyer intended it that way, but forgot to implement it properly? Or is it that the OpenRCT community came to this conclusion independently?
It was simply noticed that while in OpenRCT2 the excitement was divided by 2, in vanilla and Classic it was being divided by 4. It's not the only stat penalty that's harsher than a division by 2, so it's 99% likely that the division by 4 was intended.
@@MarcelVos Ok, that reasoning makes sense. Bedankt.
I cant make this micro coaster anymore by build half up lift then drop back to station it not let me test ride say coaster not finish build
shameful!
It saddens me that it doesn’t have a loop. The IRL equivalent had a loop.
Ah yes, a ride that is the Strongest Shape, several of them in fact. No wonder the ticket price is so high...
9:37 Sad reverse freefall noises. Nothing like seeing the other kid only half ass his own potential and still be better than you at the only thing you can do.
How did they realize that the excitement rating was supposed to be divided by 4 instead of 2?
When I made my video about the most overpowered coaster design someone in the comments told me. When I started writing this video I realized that bug wasn't fixed yet so I made a bug report and it was fixed within 24 hours.
@@MarcelVos - Oh! I’ll have to find that comment to see what they discovered then. (I.E. Dev comments, game versions, etc.)
@@Davtwan it's not particularly complicated. I stated the penalty divided the Ex by 2, someone noticed that in their game without OpenRCT2 it was divided by 4, and they told me.
The devs did check the original assembly code to confirm, but that's not how it was discovered.
@@MarcelVos - Simple as that? Fair enough. Thanks!
I’m guessing the Air Powered Coaster was a expansion pack addition & they tried to make it exploit-proof.
There are no brakes on the air powered vertical coaster train
>Ends the video with an air powered monorail (?????)
Air powered roller coaster more like over powered roller coaster HAHA ITS FUNNY CUZ ITS TRUE!!
