Thanks! Finally someone addressing this. I’m struggling with weight regain in perimenopause. I was sleeved 4 yrs ago and this year gained almost all my weight back. Cant seem to lose even a pound now. The more I look into the reasons why, I’m realizing it’s the hormonal shifts. No one seems to have an answer on how or what to do to restart loss. This area of Bariatrics is a void in terms of research.

I feel you - it absolutely is. The best evidence we have at the moment is what we do in the general population unfortunately. Finding a good health professional that can help you manage from a medical poinbt of view as well as a dietitian and psych to help with the mental and behaviour side of things is super important so you have the support you need.

It had not occurred to me to wait to have my sleeve surgery until after menopause. I was in perimenopause when I had gastric sleeve surgery in Oct 2020. I haven't lost as much weight as I thought I would. My menopause symptoms have gotten worse, and I've realized I haven't lost any more weight , even though I go to the gym 5 days a week and track everything I eat. I'm so frustrated and wondering if I should have waited until I was done going through this to have surgery. 51 now , sleeved 3 years ago

Thank you Zoe for touching on this topic. I’m 2 years post op and have put a few kilos on over the last 6 months. I never thought of being affected by menopause with my sleeve so thank you. I’m 56 and been in menopause for 5 years.

I am 52, had gastric sleeve surgery almost 4yrs ago, found out 2 years ago i was right smack dab in the throws of menopause. I did not experience any of the usual side effects except dry patches of skin on my thighs. Then a few months ago I resumed sexual activity after not being active for 3 yrs only to discover it was quite a painful experience. A visit to my doctor I was diagnosed with atrophy and prescribed Estradiol pessaries. Then the shock of putting on 8 kgs in 2 months has been very difficult to swallow. How do i get this weight off ??

I am near the age of menopause (50). I only have 60 pounds to lose. I have sleep apnea and hypertension. I am trying to decide between getting the sleeve or just doing hormone replacement therapy to lose the unwanted weight. What do you think?. Just asking for your opinion. Thanks

Hi Erica, unfortunately I can’t tell you what to do here as I am not a doctor and don’t have access to all of your medical records etc. I strongly recommend researching the sleeve so you have a good understanding of what life is like post op and discussing the options with your medical team. Best of luck!
