I also have to be the one piloting the buzzard case two asspipes managed to fuck up the mission at the end, by not handling the buzzard properly, it´s like the first heli you should buy in game and some idiots with level 66+ cant even ride one.
I know this comment is late but I'll submit it anyway for players who haven't done this yet. This is a quick guide for the demolitionist (my favorite and most played role). Everything is obvious until you get in the buzzard. After that, your objective may be to protect the Velum but the pilot should be able to take care of it on their own. So just ignore your objective and help your prison team instead. They face a lot of enemies and have a great chance of getting killed if they're hasty. Use your auto-aiming missiles to kill the cops inside the prison but DO NOT fly over the prison or the anti-aircraft artillery will shoot you down and you'll fail the mission. Once they're out, the cops will chase them with helicopters and cars. Shoot what you can while following the prison team. The pilot and the prison team will rendezvous at the sandy shores airfield. You must protect everyone as they board the plane. Once they're in the air, you'll just need to fly to the waypoint while avoiding the cops. When your teammates arrive to the waypoint, Rashkovsky will take control of the plane and your team will jump off and land on the shore. You'll need to be there to pick them up and fly them to the city. Mission complete!
Perfect answer however there are quite a lot of pilots I've seen who do not know how to dodge the missiles from the jets so in that case your answer would be redundant

That doesn't necessarily mean they're bad. The pilot doesn't need your help at all during this mission. In fact, shooting the jets puts the pilot in a bigger danger because they'll just keep respawning and shooting. It's the prison team that needs help because they face so many enemies and have a much bigger chance of getting killed than the pilot. They always appreciate the help and that's why I love being the demolitionist.
I think the prison inmate is the hardest. The Prison guard has all his weapons, inmate only a pistol. In the prison is the hardest to survive. The pilot is easy (unless you really cant fly at all), follow the jets around behind them, and get really high over the cove drop off point or it wont let you jump down. The demolitions can take out some of the guards at the prison and swat team showing up in cars if hes good and really help the survival of the ground team. Flying the buzzard is an art, of course.

I dont find that true at all. The demolition role can be very helpful to the ground team if he stays far enough outside of the prison (so they dont shoot rockets at him) and he can take out prison guards on the ground with his rockets and the arriving swat team making it much easier for the ground team and once the ground team is out demo man has to shoot down all the police choppers and can take out police cars making the pilot pickup easier, ..but how do you learn to fly the buzzard? THere is really no practice easily available. Here is where you can create your own mission as "Creator" and put a bunch of Buzzards on the ground and you have 2 groups of constantly spawning enemies to practice shooting at and if you add in cars, you can shoot at cars. A guy did a video on it and I did it and gained alot of Buzzard practice. I had to remap my PC controls because attack helicopters and planes need 3 hands to opperate and the keyboard uses 2 different location to fly with, but then the mouse controls shooting so i made my space bar the fire button and eliminated having to use the mouse except for switching from missles to guns and i just leave it on missles. The pilot got killed 2 times in a row on the last PB heist i played in, how dissapointing. Pilot can go thru gate at airport (at Devin Westons Hanger) and get in Vellum and wait until the countdown timer hits 5 minutes to leave (because there is still plenty of time to get to the checkpoint and it delays the launching of the jets. Then once the Vellum gets to the prison/airfield fly in a banked circle until jets show up and then follow behind the jet (they wont send more usually) and the jet will slow down to a crawl while being followed.
Happened to my team twice as well, one time case glitching screwed him (he should´ve landed the plane while the rest of the team was on parachutes), the other time one asshat decided to land the buzzard in the grassy area upward from the beach and do enough damage to fuck the buzzard for everyone. There´s no way around this, you literally need to be the one piloting the Buzzard for this heist to work and have someone somewhat skilled handling the Velum and hope the two guys left on the ground dont mess it up.
I remember playing that role and everything was fine until one of the crew landed with parachute on the helicopter's blade and died then the crew mates started insulting me and kicked me out
I did this heist yesterday a thousand times, I was the Velum Pilot because not a single human being in this game has the capability to dodge the missiles the jet keeps shooting at you, then I got the Velum and went to Sandy Shores Airfield and after the jet started chasing me, it would still take the demolition guy 50 minutes just to get the buzzard, I was wondering what was so complicated, but I just realized they just were stupid.
I did it with my fiends and we had a glitch where we lost the cops at the end of the heist, and there was no cut scene that showed them jumping out. Now we can try it again.
The cut scene where they jump out of the vellum at the end is triggered by a checkpoint. There is a yellow circle very high above the yellow dot on the map (high in the air) and as with other missions (EMF mission) if you dont go thru the yellow dot it wont trigger the cutscene and allow you to finish the mission.

I hate when you wanna get into the plane at the end of the mission as prisoner and you press triangle (on ps4) and it automaticaly walks through the rotar blades of the plane and kills itself. Like wtf so unfair
Despite this mission is one of the hardests in GTA Online, the demolition role is the easiest, the most useless thing in GTA Online probably. Because it is BEST not to shoot the jets. The Velum pilot should just go behind the first jet and keep following it till the end and he will be safe. If you shoot one jet, another will come and you have to do moves to go behind it again which has no use but risk. So what demolitioner should do is NOTHING BUT WAIT till the pickup point at the beach.
CosmicLove, the demolition role is so easy yet most of the fucking pilots cant even land it correctly or waste enough time to be caught in glitches while everyone´s on the beach already. On top of that most of the players you´ll find doing prison break are low levels that havent for the most part went beyond 1-3 bars of piloting skill, thats a bad sign. Whats easy is going as guard, case if you bought the laser weapons you can go through the cops and noose agents like a knife cutting through butter, your partner wont even need to flex kills to save you.

Once the ground team escapes from the prison, the jet that's chasing the Velum will just disappear. I just played this heist and shot down 3 jets, but the 4th one got through and shot down the Velum. Sigh.
First I did this role and thought it was kinda stupid. Drive to the prison bus in my vigilante but don’t blow it up, steal the bus, drive it all the way to sandy shores airstrip just to blow it up when I could’ve did it when I was driving up to it. Then drive a quarter of a mile to a buzzard they could’ve easily put at the airstrip.
The correct way to do the demolition role is to ignore the drunk pilots that fly those jets and instead use rockets to kill prison guards so ground team gets out fast.
+Brooke Porter Missiles will only be fired from the prison if the buzzard gets too close to the prison area. And even if missiles are fired they are trivial to dodge. Just move a bit sideways and they will harmlessly fly past you. Then back off from the danger zone and continue killing guards with your homing missiles.
@@jt263 The 2nd spawned Jet will attack the buzzard if it´s on the front, the 1st one is literally focused solely on Velum and the buzzard pilot would have to literally throw their buzzard in front of already fired missiles in order to be taken out.

Potato Battery You needed to protect the Velum for as long as it takes your two teammates in the prison to get out. Its likely that you and the other pilot got in the air pretty quickly and had to wait for a pretty long time before the rest of your team managed to get out of prison, which sounds like they were taking it slowly.

I had the same issue at the final "lose the cops/protect the velum" sequence. The velum never lost the stars although I shot down all choppers. Objective was always "protect the velum" team mate quit after an hour of flying...gah!
You just keep flying towards the coastal yellow dot drop off point. Then unless you hit the check point (the yellow circle hovering really really high over that yellow dot it will never activate the jump scene out of the plane.
tthe 1st time I played this some1 put me into the demolition role lol I was doing fine destroying enemy jets but then I thought I was supposed to land in front of the jail to pick the 2 ground team up ;p got missiled LMAO

been trying to do this heist for momths now but i've not had any luck with good teammates and i can do the mission well but all of the teammates i've gotten are bad or they've left mid-heist and there's only been one time that i've been close to finishing and it was right at the end where they regroup on the beach and get in the buzzard and 2 ppl got in and the other went afk and i accidentally sliced there head getting closer to them smh the one time and then they all left
Tugg Speedman not really effective enough to put your time into trying you might get a kill here and there but your time would be better spent taking out the jets

There is a guy who did a video on making your own "Creator" mission. its realitively easy (takes 5 min.) and you place a bunch of Buzzards on the ground and can endlessly practice shooting at ground enemies. Otherwise you can do the mission Defender (i think it opens at level 70 or if a high level picks it and plays it with you, it will always be in your missions to play : Hit "ONLINE">JOBS>PLAY JOB>ROCKSTAR CREATED>MISSIONS and pick a mission to play. In Defender you and your team get 2 Buzzards to take over to LS airport and defend a guy in a 3rd chopper from about 6 enemy attack helicopters. But...before getting to the checkpoint trigger at the airport you can roam around endlessly in LS and practice shooting at roof top airconditioners, or??? Practice the cirling strafe (hard to do) practice hold the nose down to get the missle lock on cars on the freeway without running into the freeway, etc. There are a couple other Buzzard missions like Chop-Chop but you wont get to play around in those mission.

I was the pilot, and the demo decided to steal the plane, so I came here to double check on his job.
The two prison guys were so bad they told me to use the buzzard for the prison, i quit instantly.

Once the Buzzard glitched out and the rotors stopped spinning after the cutscene and it fell into the ocean. At least the host was super chill.
This just happened to me today, after the cut scene the rotors went off, I died and we failed the mission... Was that a glitch???

It's hard being a prisoner because you only have the pistol and pick enemies' guns with limited ammo

Dumbest poor heist. Don't even know whats going on, and we have to coordinate like chickens with our heads cut off. Don't make any money either.
The heist is int hard it takes to long to clear the prison and every random i find is dumb.

@@Cosmic_Love Velum is very shitty, I cant even make the right turn and save some time going through the city buildings case the damn thing tricks me into thinking it´s going up and then suddently stops, it´s a shitty plane.

Need a buzzard to practice with
There is a guy who did a video on making your own "Creator" mission. its realitively easy (takes 5 min.) and you place a bunch of Buzzards on the ground and can endlessly practice shooting at ground enemies. Otherwise you can do the mission Defender (i think it opens at level 70 or if a high level picks it and plays it with you, it will always be in your missions to play : Hit "ONLINE">JOBS>PLAY JOB>ROCKSTAR CREATED>MISSIONS and pick a mission to play. In Defender you and your team get 2 Buzzards to take over to LS airport and defend a guy in a 3rd chopper from about 6 enemy attack helicopters. But...before getting to the checkpoint trigger at the airport you can roam around endlessly in LS and practice shooting at roof top airconditioners, or??? Practice the cirling strafe (hard to do) practice hold the nose down to get the missle lock on cars on the freeway without running into the freeway, etc. There are a couple other Buzzard missions like Chop-Chop but you wont get to play around in those mission.
