You don't realize what a difficult song this is to sing until you hear it done live! Teetering between natural and falsetto, she battles through and the crowd appreciates it!
taylor dayne is a very talented singer and she has this magical voice and lyrics that i love❤️her songs will never be forgotten in this word. since when have you been listening to Taylor's songs?
@@triplecheesemac True dat! Little did they know she could have blown their asses off their seats if she CHOSE to do so. She actually held back a lot of her vocal power because it was a soft song. Yet..at the end..she let them have a TASTE of the DAYNE, baby!
If I could go back in time, I would love to be in the audience at the Apollo, listening to young Taylor belting out those sustained notes and cheering with the audience.
Black folks ate this song up like it was candy! I remember one of my aunts would nearly collapse on the floor when this one came on the radio... *_"AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!! MY SONG!!!!"_*
I remember seeing this when it originally aired. There was some grumbling in the crowd when she walked on stage but by the time her performance had ended Taylor had completely won them over.
thanks for posting the lady in black. always wore black and always looked good in black, girl could sing too with her fine ass self. my favorite by her is still "Love Will Lead You Back."
taylor dayne is a very talented singer and she has this magical voice and lyrics that i love❤️her songs will never be forgotten in this word. since when have you been listening to Taylor's songs?
thanks for the post ! I remember this well, had it recorded on my vcr back in 88 ! loved showtime at the apollo ! taylor is one of my favorite singers , this is my favorite song from her, this live performance rocks ! I MISS THOSE DAYS ! Taylor is smokin hot and a great singer as well !
Taylor Dayne is one of the very few white female singers who can go toe to toe with the many amazing black female singers. And her Apollo performance proves how much the audience agrees.
Yes, thanks for posting this. I loved this song and so did my boyfriend at the time. She was really talented but that hair! Wow! That's all I can say. This is truly a good song though and she does it justice.
taylor dayne is a very talented singer and she has this magical voice and lyrics that i love❤️her songs will never be forgotten in this word. since when have you been listening to Taylor's songs?
80s & 90s Apollo was so tough , it was a incredible tough crowd, the most rowdiest and contentious crowd in American live entertainment . Black audience at the Apollo were musical connoisseurs who had music legends grace their stage from Lena Horn, Sammy Davis Jr. ,Tina Turner , James Brown, Aretha Franklin , Gladys Knight , Nat King Cole, Temptations , Jackson 5 , Pattie LaBelle & New Edition . That is just a few i named off memory . The fact is a white singer surviving the black music territory at the Apollo. Who been graced by legends in their youth when starting their career who came thru the Apollo such as Mariah Carey , TLC, Aliyaah , Usher , Beyonce & Destiny Child . Taylor not only surviving but thriving here with subtle clapping is a big big cosign of begrudging acceptance . She earned that victory and i hope she still holds that as a badge of honor .
I will always always love you always always yes I was there yes she pulled a Tina Marie great great great singer love love love I will always always love you always always since 1985 that's right I said 1985
Tina Marie was so talented and when we first heard her we thought she was black, but sueprise surprise she was white and we fell in love with her and her singing voice, Taylor Dane was the same she can really sing and hit those notes, plenty of white female artists that can really sing Lisa Stansfield, Barbara Stridstan ,love all these white talented female singers."
Her hair is so pretty. I like big long curly frizzed hair. There were girls at my schools in the 80’s who wore their hair like that. I graduated high school in 1992.
She did good but she was nervous in the beginning, I would be also this is the apollo. Its not a black woman's voice but just happens to be a white woman with great vocal range we have them you know also Celine Dion, Barbara Streisand and Tina Marie. I'M IMPRESSED.
IDK, did anyone realize that her performance, though amazing pipes, wasn't perfect. She was probably nervous as fuck performing in front of that Apollo crowd. She stared that crowd down like a lioness. They didn’t boo her because she kept giving 110%. White girl with pipes, it was begrudgingly accepted. No one stood and clapped and stomped their feet, but she did win them over. Amazing performance!
I was nervous while watching this, I don't even know the stage prestige it has until I looked at the comment section. I don't know but did she have cracks on her high notes or did her voice just sound as it is? I did sense she was nervous, but wow, she pulled it off👏🏻🔥 My first time watching this kind of vibe😅
@m dejesus umm yeah ok. Awesome. My comment about her was that her performance was amazing but the audience is stiff...why you had to copt and paste something from Wikipedia is beyond me🙄
What you have to understand is when the artist capivates the audience, well their captivated lol so instead of yelling and screaming, their actually trying to hear the artist but the reception at the end proves she was well received 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
She looks like she could take her man and love the daylights out of him. Like be the dominant one. LOL. I dont mean that nasty. I mean that as a compliment. If she can sing that passionate can you imagine how romantic she us with her man.
This song was released July 1988. Whitney Houston sang "I will Always Love You" in the Bodyguard three years later. Anyone else see a connection? Taylor opened the door.
One of the most underrated singers. Wonderful voice.
She did have a hell of a voice
She still does. Sounds great. They owe her
That’s Taylor Dayne. Singing “ I’ll Always Love You “, Live at the Apollo. No lip sync, no auto tune. Just raw live vocals raw talent.
You don't realize what a difficult song this is to sing until you hear it done live! Teetering between natural and falsetto, she battles through and the crowd appreciates it!

4:26-4:32 Taylor pulled a "Patti LaBelle" ("Over The Rainbow") toward the end!! Loved it!! ❤❤❤
It feels like she won them over from the second the song it started. She's really great
That crowd had no idea who they were listening to! She's amazing!
Nope...u have no idea, she is trying to survive the crowd. To have that crowd not boo u off the stage mean everything
@@triplecheesemac Only a complete idiot would boo Taylor Dayne.
@@triplecheesemac True dat! Little did they know she could have blown their asses off their seats if she CHOSE to do so. She actually held back a lot of her vocal power because it was a soft song. Yet..at the end..she let them have a TASTE of the DAYNE, baby!

no joke...at that time Showtime on Apollo would boo anybody off the stage.
I like how at 1:01 she put doubt in there minds as to her range and then proceeded to kill it
This lady rocks! ShShe's another great like Linda Ronstadt.
She is my prefer singer her is amazing I love so much ❤️❤️❤️
She really sang her bud off, 100% powerful. Agree not easy to match her voice live like this. As always tough crowd at the Apollo but she nailed big.
She was so beautiful, she had a powerful voice and today she's still a beautiful woman ❤❤❤❤
Pure sweet soul that's straight to the ❤️
80s was good!
This song reminds me of my ex husband. He's no longer around but this fabulous song still is. 😁😎😀

taylor dayne is a very talented singer and she has this magical voice and lyrics that i love❤️her songs will never be forgotten in this word. since when have you been listening to Taylor's songs?
Taylor Dayne is a True Powerhouse + Real.
She sings like she already been to heaven and back. “Apollo where, just tell me when”❤
Before she started singing she was thinking to herself "They have no idea what's about to hit them" lol.

Sketchy night for Taylor. The crowd got her through that one.
In europe taylor became a 2 hits wonder, only ''tell ir to my heart'' and "prove your love" were hits.
Whitney had this same problem when she first come out...she would be killin her performance and some of the audience would be so stiff

If you don’t bring it, you WILL be booed, and dismissed.
Just ask Lauryn Hill.

Been a huge fan since those classic MTV days. Taylor could SANG and still can. But the girl did have some chicken legs back in the day!
