Bought a stainless pro carry used in 2000 for 450 bucks. 1 failure to feed with serrated hollowpoint and one stovepipe probably because of a weak grip. Never a failure with ball ammo. The older it gets the better it shoots. Its a solid product.

I've had the Pro-carry with Crimson Trace grip as a carry gun for a long time. Mine is extremely accurate and reliable. Thousands of rounds through it. Arguably the most accurate pistol I shoot. I carry a couple of different 9mm's as well, but the Kimber is my choice for a very confident solution to a bad situation.

Regarding the polymer backstrap, if wanted, one could purchase the Kimber flaired magwell which incorporates a metal backstrap with the appropriate serations. Also available from Kimber is the Grip Safety with the memory bump. A nice piece. Very easy to install. Each comes in either blued or white metal.

I had this gun about 4 years ago in the crimson trace option. I think it's called crimson pro carry II or something like that. Had to sell it to pay for nursing school. I about cried when I had to sell that one. 😢 Well that one and my ruger Blackhawk with rosewood grips in 44 mag. Breaks my heart!

If you got your RN, you should be able to replace both. I own 2 Kimbers, a pro carry ll in 4t and a micro 9. I also sold a ruger 44, but mine is not replaceable. It was a Super Blackhawk with a case hardened frame. Rare gun.

I've had mine for a tad over a year now and it's a sweet gun. I've only put 200 rounds through it but I've had no issues at all. The trigger is amazing. I live in NY so I have to carry concealed and it is difficult come summertime but with Kimbers reputation I bought the Micro .380 Eclipse for summertime carry. Another beauty...tighter groups on the range than the PCII but a slightly stiffer trigger. Nice review.

I own SA, Kimber and Colt 1911s and enjoy them all - ALL in 45 ACP, the ONLY caliber for me. The Colt is a 5 inch Gov't series 80 and the Kimber is an Eclipse Target II, my SA Ronin is commander size and the main reason I chose it over a Kimber is the full barrel bushing rather than the paper clip for take down. Several thousand rounds down range through each pistol with factory 230 grain hardball in Kim Pro and Wilson mags. I have Crossbreed leather and it also works just fine. Thanks for your review, well done!

I have to say a SIG P365 is better. Although the 1911 gave me confidence. If I shot a threat center mass, it would be all over and problem solved within only a couple of rounds, maybe ;). Great review! Also read the comments. Guys….you can find a bad review on the internet for almost every gun! I’m not saying a lemon cant leave the factory, but I’ve seen people hate guns on the range only to find simple fixes after helping people on the range. My Example would be(yes a jam o magic kimber) him and his wife were using 1911 mags I never heard of and they bragged how the mags were 9$ a piece. Gave them my Springfield mag….gun ran great! Next I saw a person who could not run their Glock at all. I spent very little time with them correcting the problem because after watching them I saw immediately they had their elbow bent down to almost their hip and they held the gun like they were about to drop it(limp wrist) I should them how to hold it, and the Glock owned the day. My point is, yes! Lemons leave the factory. But please try many things before you give up on the gun. Be safe my fellow shooters and have a great Christmas!

The same flat base mags are 17 round in 9mm doublestack, (15 in .45acp). Maybe offer this 4" aluminum frame in single just for carry as an option, I could see that. Ill keep my Commander doublestack RIA. Beautiful gun tho.

I just wish they would offer them without schwartz safety as well. And jet the full length guide rod. I want one of these or a springfield for carry option. Ill probably be ok with the schwartz safety. For a carry gun. I carry a full size colt competition special now i have no problem with that one. But a 4 inch aluminum frame would be even better. 4 inch barrel give you a little better ballistics vs 3 inch. I had a kimber custom years ago i feel like the full length guide rod gave it problems. I may settle for LW 5INCH as well. As kimber seems to be making those pretty nice. It appears kimber has improved their reliabilty lately.

Sometimes I see all of it engraved to the left of where the slidestop comes through and sometimes the "Kimber" is on the left of the slidestop and the "Yonkers, NY USA" is to the right. And I am talking about the same "Kimber stainless pro carry ii. 45acp"

Sootch, please make more reviews of 1911 pistols. I recommend reviewing the Rock series or Tac series 1911 pistols from Rock Island Armory

One aspect I don't appreciate is the serrated trigger face. After several long days at the range, it digs into my trigger finger. Much prefer a smooth faced trigger.

45 ACP velocity does change its temperament. 800 fps is nice but going over 850 or so really increases recoil and ability to be accurate if not used to higher velocity ammo

    • @sootch00
      @sootch00  2 года назад

The Fiocchi 230 gr was going 860 fps and not bad recoil, but we used to reload 200 gr lead at 800 fps for IPSC matches and it was a soft shooter.

@@sootch00 yes you can feel a difference with bullet weight in this larger caliber. I find 230gr at over 900+ fps becomes a stout loading and not for target use.

What are your thoughts on the black oxide finish? Im reading it isnt durable whatsoever and rust prone

I'm surprised that Kimber doesn't use a fully ramped barrel with that alloy frame.

The things I don't like about my Pro Carry II is the front strap and mag. It is checkered at 30LPI but it still slick as a bald front strap. Kimber did a horrible job on the checkering. It's not sharp at all. The OEM mags are crap and would not feed the first or second rounds. Cobra Mags are awesome.

Hi, nobody uses 7 round mags in 1911 4” and 5” pistols, not for 20 years. And in 3’ 1911s no one uses 6 round mags any longer it’s 7 rounds mags. These mags use a bumper on the bottom and flush fitting mags are passé.

Well, they are way over priced. The Springfield and RI I have work perfectly. The RI ultra ms is an excellent piece IMO for EDC and practical events.

@Frank Bonazza III dude. I’ve seen them fail to get guns out the door at the factory trying to get them through test fire, wrong parts installed (mainly springs), parts break before leaving the factory, finish issues that was overlooked to get it shipped for the order (k6 royals leaving with tool marks on the top strap for example), also our morning meetings we were told “we aren’t doing anything important, just making guns” (that was to remind us to be safe). I want kimber to do good, and be good but it wasn’t for sure when I was there. I felt morally bad about some of the quality we had leaving.
