Thank you for the review. Because of this video I decided I had to sub you. I have been looking for a good plier for grommets.

this is very helpful. I've always used the hammer-in kind but have been curious about the reliability of the pliers. nice to see them in action. :)

I like my Prym pliers so much I have two, so I don't have to switch inserts. I use a different brand, stronger eyelets than the prym ones, works fine.
I also cut my holes much smaller and use fraycheck . I love fraycheck too :) Especially as I love Chinese brocades.
I also love my Prym awl, which reverses in it's handle for storage/travel, and the very expensive (€6), but very slick and sharp seam ripper.
And the Prym bias tape makers.... come to think of it, I have quite a few Prym tools...

Do plastic and metal work in these Prymm Vario Grommet Setting Pliers. I think I just had my question answered. I previous comment said they used kam snaps in this tool and those are all plastic, right? So confused. Never used any of these products before.

I buy my eyelets from a shoemaker supply wholesale shop in the Netherlands, They don't come with washers, but I always use lacing bones. But I think a professional should use washers. They are much stronger, they are long, enough for several layers coutil and the lacing bone, and they come in several colors. I use a flat disc, if I use the prym ''ring'' bit, they come out with a bit of a rim which can look nice too.

Ok ! thanks a lot for that ^^ I don't have too many problems with it being too loud, I still live at my parents in the countryside so there is no real risk ^^
Then I'll continue with the hammer method, and keep using Prym's grommets, they're really the best !

So far, i've only used the setter that come in the kit (the plastic one) with a hammer... should i really buy pliers or is it almost the same? I mean is there a true difference (is it less tiring? are the grommets more "secure"? ) between using the hammer method and those type of pliers? I must say hammer is getting me arm aches every time so... lol

I believe the factory is in Malaysia by the way, based on some, errr, documents I've seen and handled (the more you know, working in a rather "important" law firm around her) :P

Lucy, I'm looking up Prym and seeing Dritz associated with them. So is Dritz the same thing? I'm trying to find a kit to buy on Amazon and I'm ending up confused :(

    • @LucysCorsetry

I do think that one company bought out the other company. From what I have tried, both make good products, although I'm not completely sure if all of their tools are compatible (for instance, I don't know if you can use Dritz grommets with Prym pliers) - so just in case, if you buy a setter and grommets, make sure either they both say Dritz or they both say Prym.

Lucy, I bought a set of dies for the Homepro setter, unfortunately neither the Homepro LR or the Homepro 2 hand tool is available. Can you help me see if the Homepro dies fit into the Prym hand tool please? I paid a lot for the tipping dies so I really want to use them for tipping bones and was hoping they fit into the Prym slot for the dies. Thanks in advance.

+SuperModerngranny Unfortunately the Prym pliers have a much smaller hole for their own dies, they're not interchangeable. Have you looked on Ebay for a gently used Homepro?

Yes I have. They don't ship overseas due to the weight. I'm still on the look out.

Have you used the We R memory keepers ¨Crop a Dile¨ pliers? my mum bought them for me at a fabric store but idk if they would work for corset making... (sorry I've been asking you stuff on such old videos xD)

Why does nobody who demonstrates these, show clearly what side of the washers is supposed to be pressed with the pliers and which side goes on the fabric?

    • @shaminnaicker7637
      @shaminnaicker7637 2 года назад +1

I was wondering the same thing. I finally figured it out. On the Prym washers, feel the edge of the washer. The inner diameter on one side feels sharp. The other side is smooth. The sharp side faces your fabric. I wasted so many eyelets because this really makes a difference. Hope it helps.
