About the song:
The song was actually released on his last album "Double Fantasy". This demo is often called "My life" because the lyrics are far different from the album version. In contrast, John sings in the demo at least 3 tones lower, which gives the song a completely different character with the lower tempo.

I could easily enjoy ten albums worth of just John and an acoustic guitar.
He was so good with chords and had such a great jangly guitar playing style.
All the extra instrumentation was just to make his music radio friendly but he was just as good like this.
Can't wait for the Lennon Estate to release a super deluxe edition of Double Fantasy. For sure they'll include this demo

This is better than the finished song ; no question
It isn’t. Lyrics and melodies don’t flow nearly as-well. A pretty demo but can’t compare to the full scale production of the finished track.

How could this be a demo of the song "(Just like) Starting Over" if it's a completely different song?
Could you tell me what are the sources that claim that this was "(Just like) Starting Over" in the beginning? Because to me it sounds like it's a completely different song, plus it's complete and a demo usually isn't.

Are you familiar with what demos are? They are EARLY takes of a song. They put them down on tape to add to it, subtract from it, etc. Molding it like clay. You can CLEARLY hear (Just Like) Starting over on this. He just had a bunch of ideas and took from it what he thought would be best for the song. Ever hear his demos for She Said, She Said or Hey Bulldog? Very different.
