Picked one up a few months ago. It is also handy for taking a firestick/Chromecast/apple tv too as bar apple tv most of those don't have a sign in option for hotel wifi pages.
The issues I had with MiFi was limited number of connected devices. I had one that only allowed five, which why bother if you can hotspot your phone. This will hook up a LOT more...
@@SomeGadgetGuy That is a weirdly scant amount of allowable devices. The ones I find tend to range between 10 to 32 devices, but they do get expensive though. If you're interested in looking into more mifi devices, I think you should check out the Nighthawk M6. It's a staggering $900 dollars, though, so it's right at the edge of being too expensive to be practical.
I found a standard 10,000 mah mobile battery fits perfect in the pouch. It provides about 3-4 hours of charge for the router. I use the anker brand battery.
I am currently using mine in a hotel in turkey in repeater mode. It works fantastic. I would always back up your configurations before changing the modes. I originally paid for the hotel WiFi usujg my phone. The plan was to clone the phones mac address but i made the mistake of putting the router into repeater mode before i clone the Mac address. I couldn't access the routers setting via the browser n couldn't find the Mac clone option in the app.
With Beryl on sale, it's a GREAT fight. It'll really come down to the home use and software imo. If you prefer the OpenWRT software, or if you want to mess with Asus Mesh. I think both are REALLY cool.
I have a GL.iNet Beryl AX and I bought this. As a travel router the GL.iNet wins hands down. Setting up the AX-57go is AKWARD. Changing modes or the source wireless ISP is a task that will have you pulling hair. What this is good for is an inexpensive wireless AX Media Bridge or an ASUS AI-MESH NODE. The one and some may see this as a major flaw is that it's not compatible with ASUS-MERLIN and due to the chip set used never will be.
It should. Even though the PSU that comes with it supports 5V 2A and 9V 2A. It doesn't seem to suck down that much power, though. I plugged in a USB-C voltmeter and it reports that is used 5V and .5A. So, it seems like it would be happy enough on a USB2 port on a laptop. If you have a USB-C port on your laptop, I expect it would be fine. It might need more juice if you plug in a phone to the USB 3 port.
Let me get this right: This is a WiFi router with built-in ISP but happens to be portable, right? I'm wondering how that thing can be used on the go without WAN/LAN. WiFi router always requires either standalone LAN connection set up at home or standalone 4G/5G SIM.
You can login into the router via the app or webpage and it then allows you to connect to public wifi inside the app including the sign in pages that you need to use.
Better connection between phone and computer is great but the fact remains that cell service networking still sucks in many areas if you must count on cellular data.

On the QA podcast when you refer it, i was hoping for a 4g portable router..., but great video, very explicit and with great ideas for use it. 👍

This is the exact content I needed right now!
I love reviews like these. I don't need it but when you cover every scenario it would be good for my brain goes "wellllllllll"
LOL I am kind of an enabler like that...
That's actually what happened to me. I was watching a van life use it in his van n was like I don't need it but I want it.
If you're enough of a nerd, all routers are sexy 😂
Those are the folks I LIKE to hang out with 😁

Would love to see a review this vs GL-AXT1800
I have saved this video to my Shopping playlist.
I still love my glinet routers.
Interesting. How does it compare to the gl-inet travel routers?

Could you share your phone internet to the router through usb?

Not quite, it's a bring your own internet device.

Video is not in 4k? 😮 Since when?
4K is exclusive to Patreon subscribers.
Can you set it up with an ipad?
I dont see why you couldn't? The app might look a little funny on a tablet.
@@SomeGadgetGuy I didn't know these existed until today. Trying to get as much info as I can. Thank you
It's a fun breed of mobile support kit. DEFINITELY read up on them.
How speed is it when using for downloading?
Depends on how you set it up, but over an ethernet cable I could easily max out my cable broadband.
Yes, a router can be sexy
YESSIR!
Can Nord VPN be setup with this router ?
I dont see why not?
for travel, this needs to be half the size
And yet I traveled with it, and it did great... Funny...
@@SomeGadgetGuy pretty sure it's great but for a backpack guy this is huge.
And yet, it fit in the smallest pocket in my backpack and it did great... Funny that...
