    20 years ago I was a kitchen designer and introduced to Miele dishwashers for the first time - having one in our showroom. I was skeptical of how much better the $2,000 dishwasher could possibly be over your standard dishwasher. Well, we had a party one night that consisted of a pan of lasagna. We ate 95% of it and put the pan/leftover in the refrigerator over night.
    The next day, I realized I needed to clean this pan that still had an overwhelming amount of cold, rock hard lasagna residue. I didn't bother to scrape it into the garbage. I didn't bother to pre rinse or soak. I just put the filthy cold pan encrusted with hard, baked on lasagna residue+ into the Miele dishwasher. Put the tab in. Closed it. Started it....
    I came back a couple hours later and it was like a Houdini magic trick. The pan AND the inside of the dishwasher was sparking clean, dry, and not a hint there was ever lasagna! I was sold on them!

      It was the same, with my old 1987 Miele, but it has stopped doing that, a couple of years ago. It still washes most dishes clean, but the days, of using it like a trashbin are unfortunately over. The washpump is slowly starting to wear out.

    Great video. I have this dishwasher and I bought this direct from Miele, as I live in the same town as uk headquarters (and factory outlet). Current UK price is £659 for cleansteel. What I wanted to say though is about Miele delivery and installation. If they cannot fit aqua stop through gap, and make it connect, they will not connect it. They will either leave you to connect, or take the machine back. They are not specialist plumbers, and as such the only tool they came with was a flat head screwdriver for the jubilee clip. Luckily, it was just able to be connected, but others should be aware. For note on the outlet, I managed to pick up the clean steel model, in a grade B3, for £329.50, including delivery, install and old appliance disposal.

    My dishwasher and load it how I like is a sentence I couldn’t agree more with than I already do. In my words your dishwasher your right to load your way. I bet some would complain how I load mine but like you I will load it my way regardless of who thinks otherwise.

    Found this video because I've just ordered one and checking it out. I used to sell this sort of stuff, and have had a Miele washing machine for years but had a Bosch dishwasher. After fifteen years it is getting a bit tired hence ordering this Miele.
    A couple of points re the aquastop. First check which way up they have to be. Several high end manufacturers fit these safety devices but often they can be fitted vertically as you have it or horizontally with the lumpy bit hanging down but they must not be fitted with the lumpy bit on top. Check the instructions carefully. RE the extension pipe an alternative is to buy a self tapping tap. You bolt it over the cold water pipe and then screw the fitting in and it cuts a hole in the pipe. You don't even have to turn the water supply off. In your situation it looked like there would be plenty of space on your cold water pipe to fit one of these taps and you wouldn't then need the extension pipe.
    The aquastop BTW cannot be built into the machine. It is designed to cut the water supply in case of any leak, even if the hose was accidentally cut. If the aquastop was in the machine it wouldn't be able to cut the supply to the hose.
    Another excellent feature Miele dishwashers have, and I checked this model still has it, is that when you remove the filter (at 6 min 20 seconds) you can see the bit sticking out on the left which is the non return valve. That is held in with a clip and can be removed easily by hand giving you access to the valve and the water pump blades, which means if any blockage happens and the machine isn't draining you can unblock it yourself in minutes.
    All I have to do now is wait for mine to arrive....

    very interesting demo. Being from the US we don't get some of the same features on any dishwashers like the auto settings or the salt containers. and one of the things we have here by building code is that all dishwashers are hooked to hot water inlets only. but props to a machine that kicks our crappy equipment's butts!

    Great vid, but I hope you don't mind me adding a couple of points that might interest people looking to buy one of these:
    1) It's worth knowing (especially if self-installing) that the machine has to be calibrated to your area's water hardness when installing. (If you set the hardness to below a certain setting, it actually deactivates the salt warning light. You can also deactivate the rinse aid warning light if you don't want to use rinse aid.) The hardness can be looked up on your local water board's website, and then there's a special combination of buttons (described in the user manual) to set the water softener accordingly.
    2) Another feature that seems to get overlooked is that (again, with a special combination of buttons you'll find in the instructions) you can programme set the machine to always "remember" the last programme you used, instead of always reverting to ECO when you switch on. I only mention this because I've seen a few complaints on internet forums about the machine reverting to default every time you switch on, so a lot of people might not be aware of this feature.

    A very helpful video re the Miele G4203 SC Active Dishwasher we are considering purchasing. Miele is one of the few remaining dishwasher companies still in private hands in Germany. We have been advised to purchase the German built and assembled model rather than the model assembled in Czechoslovakia of German components. Any comments or advice most welcomed.

    Great video. I appreciated watching how you load the dishwasher to see what I've been doing wrong! I'm truly amazed at how clean everything was! I wondered if this was possible, actually. My 4 year old Kenmore is useless. I thought it was down to how I loaded it, but based on what I just saw on your video I realize that in fact it's my machine, not me. The cutlery is all full of water marks, and some food debris. Bowls will not get clean no matter where they are placed. Pots and pans, forget about it. Glasses covered in water marks. So yeah, I'm getting rid of it. However, I just looked up what your machine would cost here in Canada and it's $1300!

  • @fauguy23

    In the US. Had a Miele for 8 years (stainless front) and a few months ago the motor died. Would be $1000 for parts & labor. Ended up replacing it with a newer Miele. It no longer has the aqua stop solenoid on the end of the water hose. All G6000 models now use a regular metal braided hose. The solenoid valve is now inside of the unit.

    • @Salmagundiii
      @Salmagundiii 6 лет назад +1

      Yes, I got the entry level one (G4228) and it had a regular hose. Which is good because I would have had a bear of a time fitting that boxy thing through.

    AFAIK, the aqua-stop control has a housing box that can be gently pried apart, which reduces its bulk during installation. Obviously, it's meant to have that beige/grey housing outside during normal operation, but if the saw hole for the cabinetry seems too small to pass the device through, it may be worth trying the trick above. Often, the reduction in size is just enough to pass the control through - leaving the power cord & inlet hose till later - which can save having to hack another hole, or enlarge the existing hole.
    The guy who installed my Miele dw did that it worked a treat and saved him time & effort!

    Nice video. Just one thing, ALWAYS fill the salt container. That machine has a built in water softener, that's what the salt is for. It's used to flush out the resin chamber during it's regeneration cycle. The salt doesn't soften the water, the water is soften by being passed through resin in the softener. Failing to add salt will produce poor results and eventually lead to needing the softener to be replaced.

    Useful video, thanks. I've just replaced my G5500 with this one, and I miss the "rinse & hold" function. The G5500 has a 40 deg cycle, and when you press turbo is just rinses it for 12 minutes. Is there any way to program any of the programs to do this? What would you suggest?

  • @kokkieamiga
    @kokkieamiga Год назад

    I'm pretty sure, that the dishes seen in this video, still will get out perfectly clean, when selecting the 50C+turbo program. It still washes at a longer amount of time than with my very old G522 from 1987 with this program, instead of the 1 hour program with mine. I think it is quite rediculous to have an intensive program of 70 degrees, which actually takes 2,5 hours to finish the program. That's quite a loss of time, in case you need less time, for reusing your stuff, especially, when having guests over at parties. It possibly costs more electricity too. When I ever need to buy a new dishwasher, I will examine the possible programs, and decide on that, what to buy. On the other hand, I have used several more modern dishwashers while on vacation in apartments, and they all have quite the same programs, as shown in this video. That is quite a pity. But understandable too, as all dishwasher-manufacturers, want to sell their stuff, so they need to have something to fight to keep their prominent status on the market. Especially with brands like Miele, Bosch, Siemens. So it is us, the customers, who must pay the price for their wars. 😅

    • @spencerwilton5831
      @spencerwilton5831 4 года назад

      muzzgit You should not use PTFE tape on compression fittings, including appliance hoses. The seal is made by a rubber washer being compressed between two surfaces, not by watertight threads. PTFE tape may mask a leaking washer, or may cause unintentional overtightening. Hand tight is all that is required.

    Thank you for this video. It is so helpful! We have a model similar to this (4227SCU) coming at the end of this week. I also notice that we have the same Denby Linen dishes that you have. I am curious about loading the bowls. I notice that you have the wide flat pasta bowls - we have those too. We like to use them for big dinner salads. When you load those bowls, do you load them on every tine, or do you find that skipping a tine is necessary for the water to reach the inside of the bowls?

    • @ibaisaic
      @ibaisaic  7 лет назад +2

      I tend to cram as much into the dishwasher as I can fit and only on a few occasions have I had to rewash anything, but that may be more to do with my choice of detergent than the machine itself. I normally leave a bigger gap between the pasta bowls than the dinner plates to ensure the water gets to them. Everyone's dishes are different and it may take you a few loads before you work out what should go where for best results.

    The on/off button on my Miele G 4203 is slightly pushed inwards/deeper in the main body than the other buttons. It works perfectly for now but I am not shure how it's longevity will be. Should I ask for a replacement or a 70 £ discount?

    • @ibaisaic
      @ibaisaic  8 лет назад

      It's unlikely Miele will replace the dishwasher or give you a discount. They will probably arrange for an engineer to come out and look at it.

      ibaisaic I got those offers from my local technology store. It wasn't only the button which was faulty, but also the sideplade which had a small dent from shipping. Really nice of them but I don't know which offer to choose. I don't mind the dent because it will not be visible when it's installed.

    Hi Roger I am thinking about buying this, after a year of ownership, if you had the option would you still buy this or something else?

    • @ibaisaic
      @ibaisaic  7 лет назад +1

      I probably wouldn't buy this particular model, but I would go for another Miele. I bought this for just over £300 which is a very good price, but it seems to have gone up somewhat since then. I love the cutlery tray and would always look for a dishwasher with that feature, but I think I would spend a bit more and get a quieter machine with a few more refinements.

    • @Salamanda68
      @Salamanda68 7 лет назад +1

      Thanks Roger, I will continue looking. I also want the cutlery tray rather than the basket..basket is such a faff and takes up far too much room. Think it will be either a Miele or Bosch., at the moment I have a counter top dishwasher which is good but just too small as you can imagine!

      They dry well on the 50 and 75 degree washes but on eco there may be a bit of water left if you take them out straight away. This dishwasher is discontinued now anyway, so I can’t comment on the newer models. This one is nearly six years old and it still works fine.

    Our fully integrated Miele dishwasher stopped working and Miele wanted almost 1k to fix it. I expect that the machine should
    last a lot longer. The reputation and quality for lasting 20 years is obviously false advertising and a bunch of baloney. You can’t get any deals on new machines and only Miele can fix them at absorbent prices. Very unhappy with their product and attitude
