I find it easiest to pin the train while the bride stands in the gown, while it is on a dressform, or while it is hanging at a height that approximates the bride's height.
I love this. Learned this in high school Home Ec and use it often. Works beautifully but I also clip them if I need to separate layers for bustling. I also use this chain for bustle hoops when possible.

You suggesting adding more tacks than first bought is a great extra.

Fantastic tutorial! Question for you tho: My first “chain” always ends up with a little bit of thread before it becomes a chain. It’s like the first chain just doesn’t get tightened enough at first. How can I do this so the chain starts right at the fabric? TIA!

I put it where ever it is needed. If it lands on seams, that's a bonus! I'm definitely going to sew it with the layers pulled flat, not puckered. I def won't tear the tulle. Lol & I can stitch loosely to give it wiggle room.

Can you show us how do you lay dress out to hem when all you need is to hem front and not the train. Do you cut while it’s hanging or I just don’t get it. I have a dress to hem front only and the top layer is 198 inches from side seam to side seam. Less on 2 and 3 layer. But omg I’m going to trim 1 1/2 inches directly on front and go to each side seam down to nothing. There’s so much fabric how do you lay it out to trim the hem?
Yes, just trim them off. I do warn brides, though... the eyelash is technically considered desirable. If you hate it, you hate it, but just know you are kinda downgrading your lace when you trim it off. The lace supervisors in the skybox will judge you. Lol

Have you found tho that these tacks hinder the train when bustling? I will sometimes clip the side seam tacks simply because the bustle looks so much more cohesive when pulled up. I will also sometimes clip the back center tack if I'm separating the bustle into two separate points. (Under satin, top lace) But I have used clear plastic snaps instead of tacks so they can unsnap and bustle 😊😊😊
How can I attach a wrist loop to my train? My train comes to a point so I feel a bustle will look very odd, and the lace and front are one appliqué so I can’t have it taken up or hemmed so I need to carry that excess length. After chain tacking the seams will it be easy to add a wrist loop?
The long, pointed trains are usually getting two traditional bustles, stacked onto each other. It evens up the look of the train. I don't have a video on wrist bustles. They are very much out of favor right now. By receptions time, you are essentially hooking some very filthy material to your wrist & taking people out with it when you hug them. Eitger that, or you have to walk around not using that hand. Either way, brides agree it looks very pretty, but the practicality side of it is just not there.
No, we never use weights. You have to let the dress out. When it is too tight, presents horizontal wrinkles, & doesn't drape, the hips need to be let out.
No. The upholstery thread is pretty slick. I link to it in the description & on my website. It is my fave kind. It twists much less than other brands I have tried. It also has much less drag than, say, its cotton rivals.
Does the tacking affect how the bustle? I have a difficult time getting the bustle to drape nicely. Sometimes I’ve replaced the tacks with small clear snaps, but that’s a lot of trouble.

When I clip them for a multi-layered bustle, I try to replace them with clear snaps so that the train can still be stabilized while down.

You just have to push it all the way down with your nail. Anchor your fabric to something really well. That helps too-- if it's not bouncing around.
Do you have a way to remove a glued lace applicea from the train before you tack layers.

Yes, just tack the satin layer intermittently.
