I like this video a lot because it's a good example of a product NOT to buy. It was tested, compared, and honestly reviewed. "If every product is good then none are." This one has its uses but for painting plastic models there are far better and cheaper options as shown in the video.
i thought it was an interesting product, might be expensive but you get a lot. the durability and how it looked under a clear coat was some of the best ive seen.
The beauty of a comprehensive review like this is that it allows us to factor in our own specific needs, and decide to buy or not based on real criteria. In the end, if you had a large coverage project to do, we can use one large bottle or several smaller ones... then factor in the actual finish needs.
I'm wondering something... I used to work in the auto body business and working with 2K paints, and we never left the clear as is after spraying. We always had to cut and buff it before giving the car back. So, could you try buffing the 2K clear over that Eastwood chrome to see if the mirror finish comes back? I bet the unpolished finish of the clear is diffusing the reflection in the same way that a sun-burnt and flat clear over a red car makes it look pink, and then you buff it and it looks glossy red again...
in all fairness though, an HVLP gun sprays such a wide pattern that orange peel is far more likely than an airbrush. I am not sure that wet sanding would improve it in any meaningful way
Thanks Robert, you save us all a ton of time and money testing all these paints out for us and giving your honest reviews. This one looks like it would only be good for something like a Mandalorian helmet that needed to be scratch resistant. You make the Alclad look so easy, I never have good luck with it, and it always turns to silver metallic on me, or I get striping really bad.
The ultralumen is $60, not $30. I just ordered some yesterday. I was impressed with the results you got during your test. Looking forward to trying it out. Hope to get it soon, but I'm betting it will be delayed with the snow/ice storm we are getting here in MO.
@@grooveholmes79 exactly. I have tried it and was disappointed. I intended to use it for fishing lures, and even though I do apply a thick layer of clear coat on top of paint, it's still no good: if anything at all touches the painted surface, it leaves a mark. waste of money for me, but maybe it has some uses. maybe good if left as is without touching it with any stencils or other stuff. have yet to see if it keeps its reflective properties under clear coat.
Thanks for a nice informational video Robert an it really doesn't look that good an thanks for the time an effort you invest into making are videos I appreciate them very much 👍🏻👍🏻
Nice review! My guess, because it's Eastwood, it probably will be pretty durable by itself over the black 2K. I think that it must have some similar solvent components to the 2k and that why the clear over the top messed with the chrome effect and with it over the black it absorbs into the top layer of the black. I'm sure for models and even RC bodies if you want a straight chrome it would be good, but it doesn't have the flexibility of other products for doing multi layer finishes. Well, it's always good to know, because sometimes you can find a hidden gem. Take care!
I bought some of your 2k black, specifically to use with the Ultralumen. It was out of stock for the longest time, but I caught it in stock and ordered it. I have it in-hand and ready to try. I hope it works!
Great video, it for sure has it's place unfortunately not for me. Thank you as always my friend and look forward to the next video. Everyone keep yourselves and love ones safe and healthy and remember to SMILE 😊God Bless 🙏 Love me some Iron Maiden 🤘
Great video! Having my own chrome issues. Getting black chrome using alclad black gloss base. Using alclad klear is making it foggy after. Might try this combo and the other alclad clear coat.
Also... thank you for all the valuable time and effort you put into educating us ,so that we don't have to waste so much money trying things out. Much appreciated.
what kind of 2k black are you spraying for the eastwood. i am looking for strength and resilience aspects. i do automotive recon and this could help me fix some grills and mirror caps possibly scratched interior parts on cars. thank you for posting you videos. they are always very helpful.
Have you ever sampled some of the bulk automotive clear urethanes out there? I was looking at some of your 2k gloss and hardeners, among others when you can find them in stock, but was considering buying some large containers and just filling dropper bottles for ease of use. One particular one I'm thinking of getting is by Restoration Shop that's $50 for a quart kit.
I remember at one point these bottles use to be like 40 something dollars and you could only get them on alliexpress I dont know how they ended up 80$😂
Something doesn't add up here. . you said that the Alclad did work over Tamiya under 2k on the spoon but not over the exact same substrate on the tin lid. That's apples to apples.. The clear doesn't know what's under it. How can the tin be rejecting the chrome coat and the plastic accepting it. they're sealed no?. !? Also, for the Eastwood, If the 2k black urethane works then so should the 2k clear urethane, if they're both fully cured, because other than the pigment, they're the same thing. ' Did I follow this correctly??
I had never heard the term 2K until very recently, could you possibly do a video at some point explaining the process involved in using 2K finishes? Or if you already have, point me to it?
@ Oh I just thought that maybe you would practice saying it correctly since it comes up so often. But hey if you don’t care or just can’t say it correctly then it’s no skin off my nose. I like your reviews by the way. Alumimum is just distracting. 10,001.

I’m curious about spraying the Eastwood chrome over Alclad gloss black base
Thanks for the hard work you do to keep us informed and educated.
Alclad is KING when is comes to accessible spray on chrome. I’m dying to try Ultralumen but it’s very pricey.
Glad you take the time to inform us about different products. Thanks, I appreciate your efforts.

So.. retry with an airbrush? The buff it?
I think it's time for a major chrome test for the categories of most chrome like durable without a gloss, most chrome like with a 2k gloss.

I use the Molotow liquid chrome through an airbrush and also in their paint pens. Works great and decent availability here.
its not durable though
I hand brush Quick Shine over my Militia pens and it does not fade. It locks in the shine.

maybe I just need to stick with regular metallics and relax. true mirror isn't all that important in my case after all.
@@grooveholmes79 true - but I’m using it on display models so that is not so vital.
I hope you enjoy your vacation Frank .the weather is great now

And the money he spends. Not just time & effort.

Great review! I just recently tried Revell chrome spray and I’m literally blown away!
That ultra lumen is amazing.
I wonder what it would look like with Eastwood 12452ZA | Liquid Chrome Clear, and will it work with other chrome paints
Eastwood being an automotive body work company I can see how it would only work well on 2K.
Great video, it for sure has it's place unfortunately not for me. Thank you as always my friend and look forward to the next video. Everyone keep yourselves and love ones safe and healthy and remember to SMILE 😊God Bless 🙏
Love me some Iron Maiden
🤘
Where to get the 2 K gloss Black?? I checked Gundam Pros and the website has only a title page and no links.
Dear Mr. Excellents your videos, I am writing from Argentina. Check the tamiya 2k black is acrylic or solvent. Thank you
Great video! Having my own chrome issues. Getting black chrome using alclad black gloss base.
Using alclad klear is making it foggy after. Might try this combo and the other alclad clear coat.
Awesome looking chrome, however, very limited if it only works over 2k black paint!
Hey Barb, I bought your collab airbrush, any chance you can do a video how to do a deep clean for your airbrush?
I could. I was but I saw another RUclipsr who broke it down and thought he did a good job at it
@barbatosrex9473 Roger that. Time to lurk for it. Thanks!
If ya get chance, would you mind trying the chrome test on a clear plastic like us rc guy's have to paint from the inside?
Also... thank you for all the valuable time and effort you put into educating us ,so that we don't have to waste so much money trying things out.
Much appreciated.
Thanks Rex! Chrome is pricey. 😎👍
How about brushing on the Eastwood Liquid Chrome? I would've liked to have seen how it would look if it were brushed on.
I tried that before. It doesn't work at all, looks like water with silver sparkles in it
Thanks for the reply. I was just wondering because some metallic paints like Testors Silver enamel works best when brushed on rather than sprayed on.
Could you respray on top of the 2k gloss for a better result ?
I love your new colors, I Picked up the salmon, blue and Black Iron. I would love a darker red though. If they have one.
Thanks for the video!
Have you tried the "chrome" nail polishes, uv cured plus powder?
Creos has released a new mirror silver, I wonder if you can review it
Aqueous fine silver or something else?
@ Not an aqueous base, but acrysion base is required. Seems quite unique
Hey Rex, I like those lucky cat bottle ca[ covers. Those 3D printed? Where you get those?
it's designed for automotive, thus its carrier will be a solvent (that reactivates Tamiya)
I wonder if using a smaller needle would make any difference.
Does needle size matters?

Very very good 💯😊
Hey Barbatos, what's your favorite chrome paint to use on rims?
1/24 scale car kits? Black Chrome by Alclad or SMS Hyperchrome Warm
Thanks sir!
did you spray aclad on the 2k Gloss?
Still gotta give it to green stuff world airbrush chrome it's amazing ......
Is there a way you could start putting your videos into Playlist categories?
I'm very curious to see what those pastel colors look like over Chrome.
Back To DaBenchhh!!!
Canadian Amazon doesn’t Even have it. Ultralume too they don’t have it
Good video. That paint is too rich for me tho. Have a good week.
How tough is it, as in cleaning, rubbing etc.? Thanks
I thought it was pretty durable after it has dried for a couple days

Yes of course, I bought a quart of 2K Gloss at my local Auto Paint Supply store. I use it all the time
Alclad 2 chrome is the best.
Proof why ALCLAD/A-STAND will always be the GOAT
Супер ! С Новым Годом !
As soon as I saw that it was made by Eastwood, I knew it would be a hit and a miss
Thank you Robert for testing this Eastwood Chrome product, at $80 to +$90 a bottle w/sh&h, you just saved a number of people some money.
Uschi Chrome Powder you need ;)
I remember at one point these bottles use to be like 40 something dollars and you could only get them on alliexpress I dont know how they ended up 80$😂

I had never heard the term 2K until very recently, could you possibly do a video at some point explaining the process involved in using 2K finishes? Or if you already have, point me to it?
It's two parts the color and a hardener why they use k I don't know
😊👍
Your metal canning lid will have a lacquer coating over the steel.
I don't think I would buy that brand name an for 80 bucks give or take I definitely wouldn't buy
Aluminum not alumimum. 🙂
Is it? You're not the first one to tell me that. You're the 10,000th person to tell me

Where do they get off charging 80 bucks for 8oz of chrome paint??? Is it made from UFO scraps? Good grief!
First
It sucks
love the vid not impressed with that product
Pardon me,but what is this 2K you keep talking about?
2K refers to an automotive grade catalyzed Urethane paint or clearcoat.
