Damn dude, thats a lot of work to replace a pickguard. Bet that new trem makes a world of difference. Nice work brother.

Thanks, mate :) I was expecting a straight swap when I ordered the stuff, LOL. You are right though, Wombat, the trem does make a big difference.

Hi. How is the quality of the wood in the body and the weight of the guitar?

I'm about to start on a Gilmourcaster, making it from a cheap strat I found in a pawnshop. I've been looking for something with a rosewood board because that's what was on the real thing "back in the day". I was going to go with the Vanson pickguard, but I have decided to just use the existing one as a template to make my own from thin ply and paint it with the same black paint I'm refinishing the body with.

If you are a guitar tinkerer. Then its always a good idea to drop one or drops super glue in all the small screw holes for the scratchplate etc. It strengthens the treads for the screws.

I've just bought the HB ST-70 Black Paisley and it has the Wilkinson Trem for as standard. Might be easier to mod that to a Gilmour tribute for anyone looking to mod

Good work. And you have a guitar ala David Gilmour for $ 4 million! I suppose it should have been like that ;-) ...

Sorry to see the trem i sugested was needing to have a hole redrilled. but glad to see it was only that. But hope it did make a big diffrence as you said below. also interesting look with the all black pickguard. :)

Hi Tezza, single ply PG is what Thomann list in their specs, but it comes with 3 ply (black white black). It's supposed to be a rough copy of this: www.thomann.de/intl/au/fender_david_gilmour_nos.htm?ref=search_prv_13 hence the "DG" in its name.

I realize that this video was a few years ago, but my 57DG came with a 1-ply black guard. So maybe they got a lot of calls on it.
Anyway, I’m looking at a trem upgrade as well as pickups. I’m thinking DiMarzio Area 58s in The neck and middle with a 61 in the bridge.
      Any other ideas?

hi, in case you read my question, I have a harley ST62 and has Rosewell pickups and it does sound kind of similar to the 57 with rosewell, any idea if the rosewell pickups may be different from the ST57 and ST62 ? any idea ? my point is if I buy a ST57 and it sounds the same I will be very frustated

Hi Ricardo, I really can't help as I only have the one HB Strat type guitar. Does it not say on the Thomann website, the model of pickups in the different guitars?

Nicely done man, I'm wondering if I'd be able to fit that trem in my Squier FMT 🤔

    • @650thunderbird
      @650thunderbird  7 лет назад

Good question. I think the Squier bodies are thinner than a normal Fender, so that's something to consider as well.

650Thunderbird right, they usually use the 'shorty' tremolos. But I this one's body is the same as a traditional american strat. It has the same concept 2 point tremolo as well. I'll have to see 🤔

Yes. Leo's fault! He was NOT a guitarist! The only instrument he played was saxophone.
His initial stuff up, perpetuated designatory stuff ups throughout space/time!
Damn you C.L . Fender, DAMN you to HELL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
