Mars was my favorite mission from ME3. It had the perfect mood. You leave the chaos of Earth, everyone pissed off and feeling helpless from the safety of the Normandy's hangar. That sense of isolated safety while you know Earth and the solar system and soon the whole Galaxy is overrun with reapers. Then you get to Mars, not yet touched by the reapers. Racing against the approaching storm, against Cerberus, and against the reapers finding the archives. It's hard to put into words but the feeling and mood of Mars was just immaculate
plus you get to watch Ashley get bodied. Instant dopamine
You nailed the description of this level. You feel the race against time. All of that buildup from ME 1 & 2... Up until their arrival on Earth, you had only known what the Reapers could do in theory. This level is a necessary palate cleanse; but, in many ways, it's no less intense. This music really adds to that tension.

Writing this in quarantine, 2020. In a couple of hours, ME3 will be installed, & Shepard will be back in service. It's been too long.
Next time use the ALOT high resolution textures pack. Loved replaying the entire trilogy with them.
Man...this is one of the only video game series that got me emotional at the end.

Really throws me back to ME1's primarily synth soundtrack
"Now, this is the plan: Get your ass to Mars."
The thing I like about this soundtrack is how ME3 is stating "No more fun." ME3 is a game about betrayal, about how Cerberus that you thought were, if not nice with aliens, preoccupied with the welfare of humans decided to turn against them, and act in a way that favors the reapers. Yet there is the ambiguity that they're doing this for a reason we have yet the foresight to understand, or sheer indoctrination ? The music captures the darkness of such interrogation. When you start your first mission on ME3, this is the message that is sent. ME1 was about marveling about the universe, ME2 was about the epicness of the adventure you were living.... ME3, and this soundtrack made it very clear was about one thing : "It's time to pay."

I love this track. It's just so...
I can still remember the first time I played through Mass Effect 3 so clearly. The shit with the reapers hits the fan on Earth so fast and then you get to Mars and you think this might be a place you can catch your breath a little bit.... nope. Cerberus is already there, trying to destroy the only chance you have to fix this mess.
By the time I got to Mars I was so incredibly sucked in. I paused the game to start upgrading my squad and ended up listening to this loop for... quite a while.
I can't look at Mars anymore without this song popping up in my head.

I'm not gonna lie the most nostalgic one for me was Virmire from Mass Effect 1. I really want to be back on that beautiful beach again with the waves the rocks the crabs the trees.

Yesss! Thank you so much for making this! This track is seriously one of my favorites of all three games. I think it captures the feeling of the beginning of ME3 so well. It's suspenseful and mysterious and purposeful, and you can feel how much is on the line with this first mission after leaving Earth. The perfect marriage of orchestral instrumentation and synth. Ugh, so good. Gives me chills!

Remaster is on its way, Mass Effect Legendary Edition is so what I needed right now for this ongoing pandemic.
I need new ME game, not the same game in a new cover...if i want better graphics i can just download graphic mod, that improves textures tenfold and be done with it...because that is exactly what those remasters are going to do and nothing else...
Now that rover is on the Mars, we all know what to play as our theme.
I am using this as background music to study. I don't know about you guys but I need music to study, something about actual real life background noise distracts me. Video game music has this exact mindset as game developers want you to focus on the game.

The sight of those dust storms on the horizon during the linear Mars missions is still 10 times more impactful than the lacklustre empty open world of the later ME game.

Achingly dark, beautiful...ominous. Just tugs at your heart strings, your soul. Awakens emotions deep inside you didn't realize you had. My ex would listen to this often, he loved the calm. I'll always remember us two holding hands in the car, driving down the highway in the dark, surrounded by these spacy sci fi vibes. Just so perfect

The first Red Faction too. You could slip this anywhere into those old games and no one would tell. It has such an "Ultor" vibe to it I wanna see a Red Faction 1 reboot with Mass Effect graphics!

Best track in ME3. Personally the original Mass Effect had the best soundtrack. 2 and 3 just never reached that same bar for me. But this track is glorious.
I hope they play this when the first human walks on the surface of Mars. Maybe their parents or grandparents were fans of Mass Effect?

reminescent of "The Vindicator" movie from 1986 or "Robocop" movies. I probably took about an hour(or more) of exploring every nook and crannie to solve the Mars mission. I wanted all the goodies and exp for my vidnicator Shep and his team.

Hmmm... interesting. It may have to do with ME3 being a bit more action-oriented, the music is still great and I sort of get why the music isn't as memorable as ME1. I also think the first game in a series always has a much larger impact on your memory than the second or third, so the nostalgia factor definitely plays a role too. It's probably why they reused a lot of the ME1 and ME2 tracks in the third game.

Now that's something I didn't know happened. After reading it seemed like he wanted to part ways and work with other clients. Obviously we all know it was the evil corporation EA's doing!

leaving earth is amazing but it doesn't have the same feeling as the me1 soundtrack, it's an orchestral piece while me1 soundtrack it's more electronic/synth
I forgot how amazing this track was. This is the beginning of the game and soooo much happens after this. Wish you could take the Mako and drive around Mars before and during the storm.

Goddamn this game, I love this game so much. I really wish the pacing in ME3 was a lot slower, and had a heavier emphasis on exploration.
But that would be different game though! They tried that shit with Andromeda and look how that turned out! I don’t trust Bioware with exploration focused open world games anymore! DAI and MEA proved they don’t know how to craft the world with vast open areas with lots of interesting things to do in it, other than little fetch quests here and there! They are clueless as far as exploration part is concerned! Only Bethesda, Obsidian and Rockstar know how to fill their open worlds with little details and points of interest, that makes these open worlds worth exploring! Bioware doesn’t!…

Mass effect 3 had such an incredible opening, even better than mass effect 2. It’s just a shame that the story got bogged down in this shitty Cerberus plot and Kai Leng, not to mention the star child
I don't think they knew what to do with the plot after me1. ME2 was a great game, but its story was more of a spin off. almost nothing in that game moved the overarching story along from me1 to me3. then me3 was due, and they had so much to tell. ME3's plot was such a heaping pile of shit. with an ending that will go down in gamer history for being so shitty.
its honestly crazy. like they discovered reapers in me1. thousands of people fought and died against an actual reaper while defending the citadel. Then for some bullshit reason, they go back to the 'no one believes shepard subplot.' This plot made sense during me1, but was fucking stupid to hold onto in me2. Anyways, my point is the story of me2 wasn't great either
@@jonannon4672 don't disagree with any of that. I really loved Mass Effect 2, but the council using hand gestures with a sense of satire when discussing Reapers was just bizarre. It made zero sense and smacked of lazy writing. I really don't like to criticise on the whole because I adored these games, especially the first and second instalments. It's such a shame what started out as an epic series when out with a whimper.
If you would dive reaaally deep into the lore like me, you would see that trilogy make actually sense. Stupid council was supposed to show you how diplomacy is stupid in game. Because "Daamn bureaucrats!" - Bailey

The combat on me3 was the best in the trilogy, the writing was engaging, it had the best character moments in the trilogy, and the citadel dlc is one of the best dlcs of all time. I said what I said about the ending because thats what most people point to when they said me3 sucked when they just mean the ending.

"the writing was engaging," The writing and plot are the biggest problems imo. You start off under house arrest, and your shepard is buddy buddy with some random dude called James. But if you want to know more, you'll just have to read the manga. (Not joking. You need to read a comic to get more context)
You then, after two full games, are told within the first 2 hours, "the mcguffin is on mars. They discovered more rooms in the library or whatever. Go get it". Its lazy. Anyone who says it is not lazy has very low standards. They had the entirety of ME2 to lead into it, but no. They wanted ME3 to be the best place in the trilogy to start playing. (They said that. Not me) So many issues stem from ME2 not being a proper sequel and ultimately accomplishing nothing for the overall plot. Its not ME3s fault. Honestly it should have been a quadrilogy. Perhaps then they wouldnt have had to do some of the retcons to story elements, such as the genophage and what it actually did to the Krogans.

It even tried to tell you who your shepard was with those weird dream sequences. They went from "this is your shepard" to "you're playing a guy named shepard". I really didnt appreciate the pivot to this direction. Then you get little things with regard to game design such as the reduction in 1 on 1 conversations using the dialogue wheel and instead turning into a "click the npc and stand around while your shepard and the npc have a chat". That was a big step back in my eyes. But hey. To each their own. (I will admit I'm irrationally salty they didnt get the original Mordin VA back. I think he was doing voices for The Old Republic at the time, so they didnt ask him)

Partly their fault, partly EA's fault. Overall I felt the experience of the trilogy was a bit flaccid and definitely could have been better had they taken a few other directions with regard to the narrative.

Im happy you enjoyed ME3 and can either overlook the flaws, or simply don't see them. But the game - to me - is nowhere near as good as the music. Even years later I will listen to the soundtrack of ME1,2,3, but I probably won't touch the series again personally.
