    You're going to find this same issue even with top name brands like Mustang and Saddlemen. If you want to protect areas of contact, buy some adhesive paint protection film and cover those areas.

    • @allendevans
      @allendevans Год назад +3

      Or place felt pads (like for kitchen chair legs) on likely contact areas.
      Placing pad on the seat (plus road grit) might abrade the paint over time.
      Placing pad on the bike might leave gummy reside or discolor the paint.
      It’s black paint. Buy a sharpie marker or black nail polish. Dab on. Count to 10. Wipe off. Buff. Done. $2.79 will fix every spot the bike ever has.

  • @jasonshortphd
    @jasonshortphd 3 года назад +7

    Meh, lots of factory seats also “scratch” the paint. I have bought a couple from Triumph that they said was just normal. Once you have it on, you will never see that spot. You can add clear protection film to the bar if you really worry about it though. I have three seats for one of my bikes, each leaves there own marks where their pads sit. But I don’t see any of them, they are all under where the seats would be when on. I think the unique part here is that you can see that rail when your stock seat is off.

As a rider i didnt feel any extra confort compared to the stock, should be a little bit taller for me.. I will keep it cause we travel a lot together and everytime she seats on the stock seat she start complains after 15minutes lol.
    About this video: On my seat the tiny rubbers under the seat can adjust to dont scratch the bike but i used a bit of tape anyway and about this 3:12 mine was quite fit - the seat is completely against the fuel tank.(maybe tooo much lol).
    I will ride for few weeks and give a review as well.

    The seat does look good but I know exactly what you mean. For somebody buying it second hand, modifying it wouldn't be a big deal but buying it new, you expect better. In all the years of (many) bike parts, after market parts, customised parts etc, I believe there's only been two or so that didn't screw up something else or didn't require me to engineer solutions to problems that shouldn't have been there in the first place. Notable exception is the heel-toe shifter for the 500 made by T-Rex, that thing went on like a glove. If it had been my seat I would have whipped out the dremel and masking tape but of course I'm not as OCD about these things.
    I was thinking of getting a more comfy seat for my rebel but then on the other hand, even that wouldn't make the bike 'comfortable', it would be like polising a rusted nail. So I'll just live with the literal butthurt.
    I hope they'll get back to you for that return.

    I'm glad this, seat, topic is being discussed. I would like a seat like the step-up shown. The video has me a little confused. The review of the seat was mostly positive but it still gets a "DO NOT Buy" title. I think the paint scratching could be prevented, somehow. The gap mentioned looks the same as the OEM seat, from what I could see. I would like to know if the driver sits any higher or further back (for taller riders).

    • @LifeOfBurch
      @LifeOfBurch  3 года назад +2

      This was not meant to be a positive review. The paint scratching *could* be prevented, but for $400 it should’ve already been prevented. I wouldn’t expect to pay that kind of money for a seat that I need to modify in order to use it without causing damage. The gap is definitely larger than stock. The main concern there, which I forget if I mentioned in this video, is the gap between the seat and the frame toward the front. You can see into the under seat storage which had me concerned about water getting in. The gap between the tank and the seat is a bit unsightly, but less of an actual concern. As for seating position, there wasn’t a noticeable difference from stock. It maaaybe sat me a bit higher up, but not enough that I could say for certain.

    Wrap the frame with black viynl. I always use viynl around my tank because even stock seats will sometimes rub paint off on some models.

  • @williamcoulter5462
    @williamcoulter5462 3 года назад +1

    The damage does not tally with the marks on the seat base to me. It looks like the damage should tally with marks on the other side of that hump to give damage to the rear of the frame, the most probable culprit is the two round rubber buffers not sitting on the frame but because the seat was mounted further back ( as you said it was further back from the tank ) from where it should have been they have gone to the back of the frame instead of on top, this would have given a firm base for the passenger seat to rest on to take the weight of the passenger. The Honda passenger seat has four pads which rest on the fender, missing from this copy so I guess they meant the buffers to rest on the frame.

    • @LifeOfBurch
      @LifeOfBurch  3 года назад +1

      The damage is 100% from those marks. The entire seat pan is black, and the paint is rubbed off exactly where the damage was. The rubber feet are all seated as they’re meant to be seated, and the seat isn’t sitting any further back than it’s meant to. It’s away from the tank because they just didn’t extend the front lip of the seat far enough out. The latch, rear attachment point, and all rubber feet are exactly where they’re meant to be. That area around the frame rail just wasn’t molded properly to give enough clearance. Even if the entire seat was slid forward as you mentioned, that would cause MORE contact with the frame rail, not less. The seat would have to be further BACK to prevent the contact that happened.

    I ride a lot. around 75-90k a year depending on work. So I try a lot of seats and really love Corbin. I've had 3 Corbin seats. The first 2 were absolutely stupendous. They weren't the decked out ones, I didn't customize them at all, just clicked buy & loved them forever. When I recently bought my new Africa Twin I decided to splurge and go all out & got every option. ended up being ~800. Worst mistake of my life. The fabric color was WAY off, the diamond stitching is inconsistent and ugly, fabric was pulled so tight that it started separating, the heated seat doesn't work, the wires they sent me to connect to the battery were ~24" too short, the seat sits angled on the bike and it doesn't even latch. Messaged Corbin with pics and they basically told me to go **** myself. Incredible. So anyway don't get a Corbin. 🤣 Even if they are the most comfortable seat you can buy.

      Ideally shooting for a “dyna bro” style! I have Burly Brand stiletto shocks about to go on, Burly Brand MX style footpegs, and hoping someone will make some t-bars to bring the bars up a bit and then put a front fairing on. Just going for subtle, fun, and comfy I guess.

    Can you add rubber spaces/washers on the frame area of the seat to prevent scratches?

    • @LifeOfBurch
      @LifeOfBurch  3 года назад

      You could probably shave down the pressure points and then put 3M tape over the area to protect the frame more, but I don’t want to go that route. On a second-hand seat or a $200 seat, maybe I’d be open to it. But on a $400 that’s already damaged my bike, I’m not taking the chances. I’d rather go back to stock and wait it out for something with higher quality that still works with the backrest.

  • @leftymike8730
    @leftymike8730 3 года назад

    Is there any way to mod the seat pan to take the pressure off those areas? I know it’s not ideal but returning it seems like a huge hassle. There are also several companies who could take that seat, mold the inside, and re-upholster it to give it more of the Saddleman step-up look you are probably going for

    • @LifeOfBurch
      @LifeOfBurch  3 года назад

      I’m sure I could file down the area where the pressure points are and maybe throw some 3M tape over it, but it just wouldn’t be worth it for me. I’d maybe do it if I were 100% sold on the looks of it, but I’m not unfortunately. And losing the use of the backrest is a big deal for me because it made it sooo much easier to ride two up.
