As a boy growing up in the 60’s and 70’s, watched Paul whenever and what ever he appeared on. Had no idea he was gay, nor did my parents who emigrated from Denmark 🇩🇰 in the early 50’s. If we had known he was gay, it would have made no difference. My parents taught us that everyone deserves respect until they show you that they don’t deserve it. Forcing us to accept his private life by blowing whistles, marching and yelling. Painting sidewalks, buildings and streets, that would have changed all our minds. Paul never did that. Great entertainer and Hollywood personality. Miss him and his wonderful sense of humor.
Gay, straight, black, white, red or green, he was loved and respected as a wonderful comedian and I miss him. Instead of constantly saying he was gay why not say a much loved, phenomenal, actor?????
He was a classic..awesome comedic talent. They left out his hilarious reoccurrence on I Dream Of Jeannie. Unfortunately, he and many others were fighting their demons in the entertainment industry. Good coverage.
I totally loved Paul on Hollywood Squares. He was so comic with all the things he come off with. I know he could get my Grandad laughing so hard he spill some of popcorn on the floor that he was eating at the time. 🙂 I also liked his appearances on Bewitch. It is a shame that drinking, drugs, and sex destroyed his life, like it sadly does for so many people. Even with his being gay it didn't stop him from being well liked on Hollywood Squares and many are bound to knew his sexuality. Others like Robert Reed and singers like Elton John had success during that time period and they too were gay.
Many, if not most, comedians suffer from it. As well as a relentless need to be/feel loved, wanted & accepted. They usually have low self esteem, hidden well under the laughs. I used to book a couple comedy clubs in the early-mid 80s in Upstate NY. Spent a good deal of time in the city @ Caroline’s & Catch, scouting who I could/would book Upstate for a weekend. I had 3, usually. The opener, middle ma/woman & the main act. I met & booked several powerhouses, before they were regular household names. And a few who were on the cusp of superstardom. Even the superstars had anxiety issues. If they felt they didn’t “ kill” on stage, they were hell to deal with, off. Little wonder why so many are alcohol & drug laden. I wish he had a good partner, someone who could have given him the love and support we all need. Maybe the right man could have helped "ease his troubled mind", perhaps preventing him from seeking relief from drugs and alcohol. I married my best friend, and sometimes I think his love is the only reason I'm still alive.
I enjoyed him in the Glass Bottom Boat with Doris Day. But I think one of the best things about Paul Lynde were the imitations done of him and Rich Little had him down pat.
Paul was a great teacher. Sadly, many adults deny talent, promote ignorant fear, and fail to recognize the complexity of many celebrities. Privacy, exposure, and stalking anybody within extortion promotes incredulous perfection and kills loved ones. My family remains sponsors and collectors of art. We all adored Paul and appreciate every performer who dares to reach past local praise. MT Vernon, Toledo, Cincinnati, and Columbus frequently traveled to NY, LA, and TN before Branson. He was simply amazing.,always. His light a shone through him for “so many others”. He was brilliant when that didn’t count for much.. It wasn’t really a “ secret talent”. We all knew, right. He just missed that audience by a decade or two. )
Such a sad story, I just have always loved him & wished his life could of been freer for him. He made so many people happy, I just wish he could have been happy his self!!! 🌼
@@michaelsix9684 Yes, it’s a common trait most share. Quite unfortunate. His anxieties were compounded by his sexuality, which, at the time , was not as fluid as it is today. I’m sure it would have helped somewhat, but don’t know how much of the big, internal picture, it would have changed. Just sad, all around.
Yes, he was indeed a funny guy. He’d be like 98 now. I’m sorry he was so emotionally tortured. Unfortunately, not an uncommon trait for many comics. :\
I loved him on Hollywood Squares, I dream of Jeannie, and Bewitched. Never crossed my mind that he was gay. Not only did I not think of homosexuality but wasn’t real aware of it. I just loved his zaniness and mannerisms.
Although Paul was known for cruelty when drunk a young teenage female fan went to her library looking up info on Paul in 1975-6? She found his agents phone number but it was actually Paul’s home number. He promised to meet up in nyc with her and her father for 5 minutes and an autograph. They ended up enjoying 2 hours of conversation and this teenage female fan got his home address, was called by Paul every holiday time until his death and she wrote a biography. So he couldn’t be that bad of a guy
5:48 - On "Bewitched," it was never, ever stated, inferred, or implied that the character of Uncle Arthur was a homosexual. Don't mislabel things simply because it's what YOU want to believe. That was a different time period, and homosexuality was not accepted the way it is today.
The character Uncle Arthur was only, "gay", because Paul was playing him as such. The character itself was asexual. No way Bewitched would touch that subject being a family comedy.
No one really knows. If he already had a heart condition the drug could have contributed to his death. I dearly adored Paul Lynde, especially on game shows. He was so very very funny. RIP Paul. We miss you.
I am most familiar with Paul Lynde when he was on Hollywood Squares. He had a quick wit when answering the questions. My favorite was when Peter Marshall, the host of Hollywood Squares, asked Paul, "How many men are on a hockey team?" And Paul quipped, "About half." But what was interesting was when he answered the question seriously, he guessed the right answer, "Six." Paul was not only witty, but intelligent and very articulate.
I loved him as Uncle Arthur. He wasn't in enough episodes I think. I wish he had more time and also I wish he could've been comfortable to come out. I think that would've helped his mental health.
As Uncle Author he was an outrageous source of annoyance for Mr. Stevens. So was Samantha’s mom…. He must have truly loved his wife to put up with her relatives…. And don’t forget about Dr. Bombay! Paul was one funny guy, but he had his demons…. RIP Paul Lynde
Lynde was great. But people born after, say, 1970, have no idea how naive Americans were. My family loved: "The Paul Lynde Show" in 71, an attempt to turn him into MTM or Newhart. Nice try. He had a wife and a daughter and a son-in-law "HOweee". None of us thought he was gay, we barely knew what gay meant, we thought he was a funny, funny heterosexual. A much more neurotic Newhart. The show was funny. It didn't quite make it, like "He & She" a great loss to the world. Then Paul became a little more open with his sexuality and we eventually figured out what was going on. But trust me, America was oblivious for most of his brilliant but uneven career.
I remember him from Hollywood Squares. I was pretty little but old enough to realize he made my Grandma laugh. Big tummy laughs. She didn't smile or laugh on the norm. Then I got to love him on Bewitched. Again with the laughs from my Grandma. We all laughed because my mom was Elizabeth Montgomery 's doppleganger.
So many people don't remember Paul Lynde because they're too young, but the one thing nearly everyone remembers is his voice over as Templeton the rat in Charlotte's Web. I loved him as Dr. Dudley on the Munsters. Out of respect for this iconic figure, I have developed a pretty good imitation of Mr. Lynde.
I loved his quips on "Hollywood Squares" and mainly became familiar with him as Uncle Arthur on "Bewitched" besides seeing him in "Bye Bye Birdie" singing "Kids"
This is bull, Paul had a weight problems and took drugs to control it and it just caught up with him. sadly. I loved and adored his mean self. Rest in peace dear.
He's allegedly a distant cousin of mine (according to our family tree). He grew up in a town not far from my own. I always loved watching him on Bewitched and Hollywood Squares when I was a little kid.
My favorite was bewitched, and the Hollywood squares. He was a genius kept you in stitches. He was a natural funny man. I would laugh before anything came out his mouth. He's still missed after all these years.
I didn't really care for Paul Lynd that much. Nothing to do with his sexual preferences. I just found him loud and obnoxious. If that was his character than he played it very well. I was young when he was on and had no idea of his so many vices. I can only wish him well in the afterlife. As an animal lover I can feel for his loss of a beloved pet.
I'm in the UK and I can't say I'd ever heard of Paul Lynde until fairly recently and that's because of the infamous KISS Halloween show. However, I do remember Penelope Pitstop and he was the voice of the Hooded Claw.
Peter Marshall, Paul, when a man falls overboard, you yell man overboard, what do you yell when a woman falls overboard? Paul, full speed ahead!! I had a friend who knew Paul, who lived next door to Jean Peters, the ex Mrs. Howard Hughes who wanted no part of her new neighbor. Paul had gotten sober, very funny man. Rest In Peace.

Thanks for watching! We're so glad you enjoyed this video. What other types of videos would you like to see?
He was simply amazing.,always. His light a shone through him for
“so many others”. He was brilliant when that didn’t count for much.. It wasn’t really a “ secret talent”. We all knew, right. He just missed that audience by a decade or two.
)
Such a sad story, I just have always loved him & wished his life could of been freer for him. He made so many people happy, I just wish he could have been happy his self!!! 🌼
comedians often are very unhappy away from the stage
@@michaelsix9684 Yes, it’s a common trait most share.
Quite unfortunate.
His anxieties were compounded by his sexuality, which, at the time , was not as fluid as it is today.
I’m sure it would have helped somewhat, but don’t know how much of the big, internal picture, it would have changed.
Just sad, all around.
He Was A Great Actor And Funny As Heck We Need Paul More Than Ever RIP
May Paul find peace. What other types of videos would you like to see?
Drinking caused his heart to become enlarged and it became harder to breathe for him. It was this enlarged heart to cause his death.
My parents and my brothers and I never failed to watch the Paul Lynde Show. He was a great entertainer. I still miss him.
Yes, he was indeed a funny guy.
He’d be like 98 now.
I’m sorry he was so emotionally tortured.
Unfortunately, not an uncommon trait for many comics. :\
He was great in Bye Bye Birdie.
Dick Van Dyke and ann-margret were also in the movie. From Ms. Harper Stacey.
His best one liner was"don't drink my mad dog 2020",and"full speed ahead".😂😂😂
Funny man, extraordinary timing of jokes & innuendo.
Well said! We're so glad you enjoyed this video. What other types of videos would you like to see?
He was best on Hollywood Squares.
My favorite role of Paul Lynde was when he played Templeton the rat in Charlotte's Web
Uncle Arthur had a girlfriend who dumped him because she didn't have a sense of humor.
Character wasn't gay. Just a jocker.
Oh that's adorable.. the entire show is about being closeted queer.
His Facial Expressions were the Best!!!
Definitely! Thank you for watching our content. Be on the lookout for our next video!
Paul Lynne was one of kind.
No one really knows. If he already had a heart condition the drug could have contributed to his death. I dearly adored Paul Lynde, especially on game shows. He was so very very funny. RIP Paul. We miss you.
My favorite Paul Lynde role was the father in Bye Byte Birdie
He was NOT portrayed as gay on Bewitched! How dare you make up that bs?
I am most familiar with Paul Lynde when he was on Hollywood Squares. He had a quick wit when answering the questions. My favorite was when Peter Marshall, the host of Hollywood Squares, asked Paul, "How many men are on a hockey team?" And Paul quipped, "About half." But what was interesting was when he answered the question seriously, he guessed the right answer, "Six." Paul was not only witty, but intelligent and very articulate.
I liked Uncle Arthur when he played Templeton in the Charlotte's Web when he was singing that song
I loved him as Uncle Arthur. He wasn't in enough episodes I think. I wish he had more time and also I wish he could've been comfortable to come out. I think that would've helped his mental health.
My favorite character by Paul Lynnd was the MUNSTERS doctor.
Paul Lynde was very unique. There will never be another.
I always liked Paul Lynde. He was a great actor and comedian
We agree! What is your favorite Paul Lynde role?
@@FactsVerseMy favorite role of Paul Lynde was when he was on Bewitched.Loved him on Hollywood Squares also
None of the men on Bewitched were masculine. Lynde never acted like a homosexual on it.
I absolutely loved him. He was so funny!
We definitely agree. Paul will be sorely missed 😥
Love ❤️ Paul Lynde..Hysterical all the time...I did like the Paul Lynde show..it was hysterical...R.I.P. Paul Lynde...
May Paul find peace 😢
I will definitely always remember Paul Lynde as Uncle Arthur. Funny 🤣 as Hell.
Paul was hilarious, no matter if it was on Hollywood Squares or on Bewitched. Loved him!!
One of Paul's most iconic roles. Thank you for watching our content. Be on the lookout for our next video!
Paul Lynne was so funny, that episode that he played the doctor on the Munsters was the funniest, you can watch it on RUclips.
Thank you for the suggestion, we'll look for it. . What other types of videos would you like to see?
The way he talked funny Af 🤣.
The only head scratcher was why the Hell his escort left him to die? He could have called for a ambulance but he chickened out.
Yep, rumors abound that he was getting “serviced” almost all the time by the same escort!!
Seth MacFarlane 's Roger is the inspiration for Paul Lynde
So many people don't remember Paul Lynde because they're too young, but the one thing nearly everyone remembers is his voice over as Templeton the rat in Charlotte's Web. I loved him as Dr. Dudley on the Munsters. Out of respect for this iconic figure, I have developed a pretty good imitation of Mr. Lynde.
Roger on American Dad.
I loved his quips on "Hollywood Squares" and mainly became familiar with him as Uncle Arthur on "Bewitched" besides seeing him in "Bye Bye Birdie" singing "Kids"
I never saw an episode of Bewitched where Uncle Arthur was said to be gay… where did that come from?
This is bull, Paul had a weight problems and took drugs to control it and it just caught up with him. sadly. I loved and adored his mean self. Rest in peace dear.
He's allegedly a distant cousin of mine (according to our family tree). He grew up in a town not far from my own. I always loved watching him on Bewitched and Hollywood Squares when I was a little kid.
My favorite was bewitched, and the Hollywood squares. He was a genius kept you in stitches. He was a natural funny man. I would laugh before anything came out his mouth. He's still missed after all these years.
Mmmm he was an interesting Actor, but his death was a mystery
I didn't really care for Paul Lynd that much. Nothing to do with his sexual preferences. I just found him loud and obnoxious. If that was his character than he played it very well. I was young when he was on and had no idea of his so many vices. I can only wish him well in the afterlife. As an animal lover I can feel for his loss of a beloved pet.
He was the JACK of all trades!!! He was a superstar little did he know!!!
You are missed uncle Arthur.
Good souls are so hard to loose and your bare a very good person to me.
May God be kind and love you.
🦉
Thank you for your heartwarming message to Paul. May he find peace 🙏
well, he smoked and drank like crazy so .... case closed.
I LOVED Paul Lynde but really, hard for be to believe someone could watch him and not think he was gay...
HE WAS SO GREAT
We agree! What is your favorite Paul Lynde role?
I liked him on Bewitched and on Hollywood Squares. I watched both shows regularly!
I Remember first seeing paul on Bewhiched he was my first Favorite Comedian. Every show or movie he was in he was Hularious!!🤣😄😁
