Doom, you can't say "maybe this will breathe new life" when they haven't actually delivered anything. 2 years on and the man leaves before we see a frame of gameplay. Devs only ever leave for one reason- they didn't like what management was asking them to do.

Man I really REALLY wish Battlefield would stop trying to shove a single player campaign down our throats.
Stick to what Battlefield is known for for since 2002 - epic multiplayer action!
The Bad Company series is an outlier in terms of a good campaign, I’ll give them that.
Dev time spent on single should be funneled into the multiplayer to make stuff less buggy on release 😎

@@cristopheralexander1583 while this is 100% true, it's also easy lay blame on outside events like the pandemic, the company trying to protect the playerbase from its own built in toxicity (no all chat? wtfffffff), the devs that made bf2/3/4 etc where all mostly gone by this point, and trying to jump on the battle royale bandwagon that everyone else has done, and done it better.
We'll never really know what happened with 2042.
But if you look at the roots of Battlefield - 1942, its expansions, 2, and 2142 - all wildly successful games - none of them had a campaign. Multiplayer only, from the ground up. Single player was against bots, so you could learn the maps at your own pace. We did NOT need a campaign to tie the multiplayer together. All the info we needed was shown on the loading screens. Easy.
Bad Company 1 & 2, solid single player, with multiplayer tacked on. And we suffered for it - we LOST features in the multiplayer, compared to BF2 & 2142. BF3 got us closer to where we started, with a slightly buggy but forgettable campaign tacked on.
BF4 got us even CLOSER to where we started, and with a hella buggy campaign tacked on - again, dev time that should've been spent on fixing the huge amount of multiplayer bugs we had on release .... and I have no comment on the V & 1 campaign, because I never played those games.

@@cristopheralexander1583BF. doesn't need a full campaign like Cod does, the War Stories on BF1 and BF5 were decent enough to get us familiar with the setting and game. I loved the BC games and BF3 campaign but BF honestly doesn't need one that long.

@@mauirixxx Let's not forget that singleplayer is tackled by separate team that has nothing to do with multiplayer. One thing that was true in BF2042 marketing - they got back to the roots of BF - no campaign - but intertwining story with multiplayer was a bad move that was proven before by first Titanfall game.
I mean some people will care and follow (I follow the story somewhat but I don't really read all playercard descriptions, story videos were sick imo) but majority of people take photos of messages on loading screen that tell parts of story and post it as toxic messages (may be too harsh of an opinion but I can't find better words for it) to team that worked on it saying "Is this supposed to mean something" or "why would I care", there is many examples of that floating around.
Thing about the singleplayer - core game needs to be solid 1st.
Hardline had a good campaign, but core game went of the path of military shooter into cops vs robbers, even though game was solid majority of players didn't like it, so the game died quicker than 2042 even though 2042 had an atrocious launch. Real shame because I actually liked BF Hardline, I'd say if it didn't have "Battlefield" brand attached to it it would do so much better.
And BF3 - Amazing core gameplay (though little rough at start) but as you said - forgettable campaign. Better to have forgettable campaign than awful core game. That's why BF3 to this day stands as a peak of Battlefield for many players.
Comment on BF1 and V campaign because I've played them. BF1 had amazing campaign, really worth playing, as for BF V only "The Last Tiger" is worth any attention as it tells amazing story of last days of WW2 from the point of view of German tank commander, other stories are forgettable.
Only invalid point you said is that dev time should be spend on handling bugs other than working on singleplayer - I know the inner workings working at a corp and my team is partially involved in game dev, team working on singleplayer has nothing to do with actual bug fixing in the core game, they just make maps and scenarios using what they got because that's their job and all they can do about bugs is to report them to team responsible, so partially they contribute to bug fixing.
Overall in the end campaign is just a nice little addon to the main game that is focused on multiplayer

People normally dont leave a studio cause the game is "complete" until the game is actually released. Depends on their contract but I'd say the franchise is in major trouble here.

As long as esg score determine the investor priority the game is doomed. I know a failing asset when I see it and EA will burn this one to the ground. bF4 fo life
