      Yes it is an Abt System.
      Very high maintenance as there is a higher tolerance to maintain a consistent level between the rail head surface and the root of the locomotive Abt sprockets.

    This is a RACK (ABT = Roman Abt patent of 1882) loco, are you planning to reopen a Rack section ?

    • @paulusintas8627
      @paulusintas8627  Год назад +1

      Hi there, we have 4 of the original 5 ABT locos that ran the line up until its closure in 1963. (1,2,3 &5)
      The railway was fully rebuilt and reopened in 2003. The steam rack section is of course the main draw card which has operated since the railways reopening up until June this year. With our longer winter shutdown period almost over, we will start operating some short runs on the non rack sections, as heavy work carried out by contractors is continuing on our many of our 39 bridges. (new transoms and rail being put down currently)

      The green 'Drewry' diesel is one of two original locos that operated on the Mt Lyell railway from 1953 to 1963.
      The D class are for the most part identical to the ex Tasmanian Government Railways V class & similar to the British Rail Class 04 shunter.

      Queenstown New Zealand is a beautiful place. Queenstown Tasmania...well Google Earth it and see for yourself.. Touring New Zealand both North and South Island is 1000 times more interesting than Tasmania. No comparison.
      NZ has that wonderful indigenous cultural connection and diversity. Tasmania indigenous history, very appalling shameful sorry affair.
      NZ, Great rail system. Smart concepts like the Blenheim Wine Station.
      Tasmania South West Coast is World Heritage unique rain forest difficult access except fit bush walker. Same with exploring along the west coast.
      North East Tasmania in way of Mount William National Park, about 500 feet high ,(not 9000 ft ), Mount Cameron subtle but great views of Bass Strait Islands, beautiful. New Zealand has fantastic commute and tour passenger trains, Tasmania nothing, just a bus. (well more than one)
      Great heritage conservation in NZ. New Zealand has great railtrails, Tasmania is still fighting amongst themselves to develop one after 30 years of being introduced in the State of Victoria.
      Launceston is a stronger anesthetic than Pentothal.
      Tasmania demolished 95% of railway heritage infrastructure and stations, buildings etc. Oh ,Tasmania has a lavender farm!?

      @@paulusintas8627 The railway continues to run at a loss. The Tasmanian Auditor General Report

    • @paulusintas8627
      @paulusintas8627  Год назад +8

      @rsinclair6560 We are a government asset. Respectfully, I believe you maybe missing the bigger picture here :) The railway may run at a loss, however the tourists that come to this wonderful region spend their money on other attractions and support small business. During our maintenance/shut-down period, businesses that normally rely on the tourism that the railway draws to the region have taken quite a hit financially.
      The good news is that we will be back better than ever .. very soon! :)

      @rsinclair6560 Год назад

      @@paulusintas8627 1983 Government commissioned Commercial economic business viability study report concluded that no economic advantage to reconstruct this railway after it was dismantled in 1963. After the gun buy back after the Port Arthur tragedy, the report ignored.
      The predicted cost versus revenue interpolate to current times to continue to predict an operation going broke. You cannot increase passenger carrying capacity like Puffing Billy.
      It was suppose to give jobs when mines closed redundant miners as they in the 1990',s on the West Coast. 90% employees are not from the State. There has been no Net External Revenue either direct or indirect since the railway was rebuilt, shut down when Federal Hotels walked away. The track condition needs constant disproportionate maintenance relative to length.. Locomotives design (two engine in one extremely high maintenance and initial laying of used rail and sleepers was appalling engineering. It is funded $ 16 million over four years and by tax payers with no economic benefit. The Auditor General Treasury Department asks WHY?
      If this railway was successful it would be self sustaining making a profit requiring not one dollar from the tax payer. Money could be spent on better things.
