📽 📽 IN THIS WEEK'S VIDEO: Colonel EH Taylor Small Batch (100 proof, $50-150) vs Cooper's Craft Barrel Reserve (100 proof, $33)
We put this matchup into our head-to-head pool because EH Taylor is becoming increasingly harder to find, while Cooper's Craft Barrel Reserve shares a similar fruit-forward profile, is much easier to find, is more inexpensive, and doesn't get marked up like EH Taylor so often does. We wanted to see if EH Taylor stood head and shoulders above the competition when comparing completely double blind.

While I like BT products, particularly Eagle Rare, I'm tired of the allocated marketing approach. If I see a Buffalo Trace on the shelf, I may buy it but I won't search for it. Coopers Craft, however, I love as a daily pour and will always try to keep one in reserve. Then again, anything from Old Forrester/Brown Forman is just fine with me. Interesting comparison.
Awesome review! Always keeping it real and fighting the FOMO!
I always compare OF100 ($26) to CC100 ($32), but now I'll need to compare to EHT ($45) to see how they compare from a different distillery. Thanks for the great content!
Good timing for me to watch this video. I picked up a Cooper’s Craft last week and just was able to find my first bottle of EH Taylor small batch at MSRP yesterday! Love your blind reviews.
They're fun to compare! Cheers and thanks for watching (and for the kind words) Dave!
Love to hear what you thought about the Cooper's Craft. I let the store clerk talk me into the Henry McKenna Bottled in Bond after having finished a bottle of the Cooper's Craft. Not only did I not think the McKenna was worth the $70, I actually prefer the Cooper's Craft, which I bought another bottle of (along with a bottle of Eagle Rare that they happened to get in while I was there).
Great video. I love when hyped bottles turn out to be just ok. Also, a connection, my best friend has Addison’s.
Yes pretzel nachos will be happening asap!!! Erin thank you for changing my life and showing me the way... FYI you need to try the soda a little bit of each atleast just once...
Great ‘allocated vs available’ example. At least for some. Coopers Craft is not found locally for me, but friends have helped me get some.
Welcome to Stuff and Dessert where we discuss the pros and cons of banana pudding then we kick it up a notch with a Strawberry Shortcake where the shortcake is made from ground Nilla Wafer flour! Great video, it sounded like the dessert or candy round for sure. I see Cooper's Craft a lot (for $40) and have always remained on the fence about it. The regular Cooper's Craft is available in a Snak-Pak so I may try that first.
Love this comparison! Pretzel nachos! These are the gems we get on the out takes!
Come for the whiskey content, stay for the college level snack advice 😂
Finally I have Josh asking what Planet, Erin is from,...Welcome to the Dark Side, my friend!!! LOL Great review guys, I'll be open I have had a bottle of the E.H. Taylor and found it decent, but not exceptional. Never even seen a Cooper's Craft bottle where I shop, so have no comment on it. The Taylor's was $100.00 Canadian limit 1 bottle per customer. Looking forward to the next review, and more hints as to where Erin the Alien is from!!
As a kid, we have all tried chewing the fun dip stick at least once
Walk into any liquor store in California and EHTaylor SB, BiB, SB are $200, $250, $300 respectively. When I think of highly allocated bottles that's impossible to find, EHT is very much one of the poster children.
The ONLY time I've ever seen EHT at msrp is when Costco sells it and I've never seen them in my store ever.
California is the land of EHT SmB at retail. They are at bevmo and total wine almost once a month for $45ish. SiB and BP are difficult to find at a retail.
@@thewhiskeyschoppe4999 You’re right, but you’re giving away the keys to the kingdom 🤫 . Steady hunting in CA will net you EHT at retail.
@@thewhiskeyschoppe4999 Yeaahh. requires hunting, tracking shipments, and the like. I've gone into my local TW's and Bevmo's regularly all throughout 2020 and 2021 (not less than once a month) and I've never seen any version EHT sitting on a shelf.
I suppose I should have added that more specifically but I just shortened that to "impossible to find"
I've over 200 bottles at this point (half mini's) and there are plenty of readily available drams that are absolute gems without "the hunt". I just can't be bothered.
@@eviltrain24 How do people track shipments? Never had to do any of that for EHT SmB in CA, but if it came down to it, I’d track shipments for something like Stagg Jr.
@@eviltrain24 everyone has their thresholds for effort. I hunt 2 days week where I go to 2 stores during my lunch break.
I've had Cooper's Craft Barrel Reserve on my hunt list for a few years and have yet to see it in the wild. I'm in SC, but always hit stores when I travel to GA/NC/TN and still no luck...
Ooh, great match up! I love EH T, but CC 100 is so good, great price and obtainable. I'll have to follow que and do a side-by-side...
This was rad. I'd say you should add secondary to your prices
Spree and pretzels! LOL
Cooper's Craft is one of my current favorites. I heard good things on WhiskeyTube about it and hunted it down online since it isn't distributed locally, and so glad I bought 2 bottles! At 30 bucks its a real hitter that I'm going to keep around for a while. Thanks for the comparison to EHT Small Batch - I can't get ANY EHT in my area, so knowing how a current favorite stacks up against it is good news!
I had one of those exact Strawberry Shortcake figurines that I chewed the feet off of as a young child because it smelled so good.
OMG, she likes the white stick. How did you not crack up, Josh! 🤣
It was an admittedly big miss on a "that's what she said" opportunity 😂
Loved the bloopers! As soon as Erin put in all those sprees in her mouth I immediately thought.. that's going to be a LOT of candy to chew lol. And agreed..pretzels get all up in my teeth lol
I always ate Sprees mixed up. But very great comparison.
Interesting comparo. I love both of these and blinded them. CC has a cantaloupe taste and EH T has a grape taste for me. I spotted them immediately. For me, EH T had a better nose.
Found my bottle of EH Taylor hidden on the bottom shelf for $45....was the only bottle in the store.... To me its like cherry pie and vanilla ice cream.... Pretty simple, but tasty.
EHT SmB is one of my favorites and I can get it every few months @ SRP. Cooper’s Craft isn’t available in my market. Would be great if it was though.
Love EH Taylor small batch but it's definitely hard to find (and never at MSRP). I have tried Coopers Craft on several occasions, and for some reason I pick up a coffee note on the finish that I don't enjoy. Great blind!
Interesting on the coffee note! We'll have to retry with that in mind (although we do adore coffee so it may endear it all the more to us).
Found some Cooper's Craft in South Dakota while on vacation with wifey. Tried it loved it got it for $26 here in Colorado harder to find and find it for $30
While not the profile we gravitate toward to very often in our free time, it's easy to see why it's such a crowd favorite!
Gotta love asking Siri for medical advice 😂
"Things NOT To Do 101" 😂
Living in CA and happen to be fortunate enough to have found enough EHT at MSRP to build up a stash, so that’s what I drink. Can’t get Coopers Craft out here, but I keep a bottle of the CC 100pf reserve at my parents’ house in FL. Honestly can’t say I miss the CC, has too much charred oak flavor to me.
Hey Jon nice input on the matter. I am kind of curious about the CC. Might you know the barrel char level they are doing the CC in? I am interested in possibly giving CC a whirl.
Huge fan of Coopers 100. Lots of citrus, but I also get a heavy char flavor that I don’t find in any other bourbon in its price point. Drinks like a toasted barrel to me.
Come for the reviews ... stay for the philosophical pretzel discussion ... and pretzel nacho recipe ;-)
Putting the "stuff" in Stuff & Whiskey. 😂 Cheers and thanks for watching Matthew!
Big fan of Cooper’s Craft - sitting on the shelf pretty much everywhere here in Seattle. For me it competes well with OF1910. I find the flavor experience of 1910 to be a bit “closed” and “tight”, where CC has similar flavors but is more open and accessible, if that makes sense. Also, I get a lot of bananas foster with CC nose and palate. Never seen a bottle of Taylor in the wild at any price.
Great comment Neil! We're big 1910 fans. We'd describe 1910 as dense and flavorful, but can see how some may interpret it as closed and tight. CC is certainly more "airy" if not a bit thin for our preferences usually, which we could absolutely see being called open and accessible. We're thankful most markets have both to choose from. Cheers!
@Josh - Thought I saw some divorce papers in your future if you did not come up with the correct answer to Erin's, "Wait...you mixed Fun Dip Flavors?!?!" LOL ;) This was a intriguing match up as most of these are. Fun watch..cheers!
Those bottles for me are the same price $33. However, coopers is on every shelf in town and EHT small batch is only at that price a few times a year when it pops up in Costco. As you said run across town or you missed it. Other than that when I find it it's $56. Great blind guys.
Eating starchy foods like pretzels while drinking really amps up the sweetness of the bourbon in my opinion. Also when eating deserts.
Interesting. If anything we find that it just resets our palates back to zero (pretzels, crackers, etc). Definitely agree with desserts paired with bourbon though. One of our favorites is chocolate and bourbon.
WHISKEY CHEERS 😎😎😎😎
OMG, I'm a subscriber after BLOOPERS!!! hahahah ----- I am you y'all, IF you cant pick a bottle off the shelf when you want it, I don't need it.... TBS, I would pick a bottle of EH Taylor almost at any price if I found it...
0:01: "I must have clicked on the wrong channel...."
😂 😂
It would be nice if you put the actual bottles out on the table once you reveal them. Seeing the actual bottle makes it easier to find when looking in the stores.
That would be nice, Tony, but sometimes these matchups go into our pool months in advance and the bottle is long gone by the time the head-to-head pops up randomly (some matchups have even been in the pool for over a year). We always take pictures of the actual bottles for the thumbnail though for folks to reference. Cheers and thanks for watching!
So I got a bottle of EH Taylor SB from West End Discount Liquors & Wines out your way when I was out there bc it's hard to find in CT where I am. And I'm not actually in love with it like I thought I would be. It's only just ok like you both thought. For the price point I would rather grav something I can find on the regular.
Hopefully West End took care of you. They're usually pretty good about not being too unreasonable.
EH Taylor Small Batch in California is now ranging from $100-$200. Hard pass! You’re really not missing out on anything special, people. Great review guys! As always. Cheers!
This is due large in part by consumers hyping the BT line up. It's insane when I hear people paying anywhere from $20-$40 dollars over msrp. Perfect example of that is Eagle Rare. People are paying $70.00 for a 750ml when it is a $35.00 bottle. It's okay though. I am nobody to tell people what to spend their money on. But just a hint to others here who are in the "hunting game" for Eagle Rare. Knob Creek 9 year is a solid alternative which you can always find and is priced around $35.00.
I paid $16 for a coppers in North Dakota but I usually see it around $30 and I’ve paid $90 for eh Taylor just to have it. But totally agree both are good but not even in my top 5
I'm in west Michigan and I've never seen a bottle of Coopers Craft. Is it distributed nationwide?
No, but if your state allows mail-order liquor, you can find it online.
Distribution, as it seems with so many things, is spotty.
Last time I saw EH Taylor in my area it was priced at $160...so not worth it at that price.
Easy to find here in florida
If I didn’t have a connection and only pay 35 for EH I’m in the same boat. If I had to pay 50+ I don’t think I would get it. It’s a great 35 dollar bottle.
Not sure how CC doesn't get two thumbs up on consumer. At 30 bucks it's a great buy
Great value for sure, but just not quite our preferred flavor profile.
Coopers Craft is really good for the price. It’s a nice simple drink.
It's amazing the pours it'll go toe to toe with. Brown Forman is doing great things with that product line!
#fightthefomo Josh! 😆
I for one would love to see this bell curve with all of your scores plotted on the graph!
Lastly the cut with what I think were sprees was fantastic. Love how Erin was so hesitant and Josh just threw them all back! Haha!!
Ok actually my last comment, 😆! I agree with Josh don’t Google symptoms, because it will just tell you you are dying.
The problem with Cooper's Craft is that it's availability is limited. Have yet to see it show up in Illinois. Definitely not in the Chicago metro area.
Hopefully they continue to expand their reach sooner rather than later
Exactly. I had to order CC on-line as I couldn’t find in Illinois.
@davevogelsang6791 you ordered from out of state? I thought it's illegal to ship liquor into Illinois.
I have never seen Coopers Craft In my part of Illinois. In fact I asked our 2 biggest retailers if they could special order me a bottle. They both checked with their distributor's and we're told it's unavailable in our market . 🥃😭
Hopefully Brown Forman continues to increase distribution
Binny's I imagine. When I asked about Cooper's Craft there, the guy got me all excited when he told me they have it. He comes back with a bottle of Coppercraft. 🙄🤬
@@xiamengbaby yes was one of the stores . They also early times bottled in bond is allocated and they only get a few bottles every month or two. E.T.B.B. is like Weller special reserve in my neck of the woods.🥃🤔
@7:16 🤣😂
😂 😂
My grandma made THE BEST banana pudding.
Turns out it's a slippery slope 😬
In Chicagoland EH is a myth and Coopers is NOT in out market. To bad for us.
Sounds like Old Fo 100 to the rescue! Or for a similar pricepoint, we both prefer Old Forester Statesman to either of these even though it does give up a few proof points.
@@stuffandwhiskey Thanks for the suggestions.
Yeah yeah, $50. LOL
E.h Taylor is a hard pass as I don't like any buffalo trace products. It is also £100 in the UK so could buy two bottles of rare breed.
