I first saw Dr. Phibes Rise Again while I was in college. A local station used to show the two Dr. Phibes movies back to back on a show called Scream Theatre beginning at 1:00 AM. My impression of the film was that Dr. Phibes making up excuses to kill people as he went along, unlike the first movie or Theatre of Blood.
I just watched both the first and second; didn’t enjoy “Rises again” as much as the first…. What an experience watching the abominable dr phibes for the first time! A legitimate cult horror classic .
I love Dr. Phibes, but being that I am a professional makeup artist, I can't get past the ridiculous makeup that they had in the film. It was as bad as the worst Halloween mask that you can find .
@@princeeverlove I work in the industry so I know that quality is and has always been a consideration which can ruin an otherwise good film. It's WHY they pay me, and not some kid off of the street. The makeup person did a terrible job on this, while if they hired someone else for the same exact money, and the same exact time, it would be 100% better. And also, NO film is guaranteed to make money, especially B grade horror films, of which I have worked on dozens of that very type.
@@princeeverlove What WASN'T a consideration was the overall intelligence of the audience. Having Fruit bats, supposedly eating someone requires mental deficiency.

Ah, yes!
Vulnavia is spellbinding! Such a beautiful, mysterious character.
Phibes I & II are still two of my top 5 favs. I like I a bit more but II has my favorite line: "What kind of fiend are you? ONE WHO WINS!"
Because Phibes only ever won. I have been DYING for a reboot or continuation of some sort. A sardonic supervillain who was unstoppable.
Both Phibes films and Theater of Blood are my favorite Horror movies of all time, Vincent Price and creative kills!
Kim Newman is delightful and fun to listen to... always.
Kim Newman is brilliant. Much respect.
Being a published horror author and lifelong horror fan, I always enjoy seeing Kim. He has contributed so much to the genre. www.alantoner.com

fascinating character - mr newman
Note: British film ratings are NOT like American film ratings. An X Certificate is equal to an R Rating and not an X/NC-17 Rating.

close your eyes and it could be Mark Kermode.. 👀
Why does he always dress like he just came back in time from the old west...
Phonotical What do you mean, "like"?
The real question ask, would be why ALL grown men dress like little boys all of the time?
Yawn. Superficial comments.
@@davidsmith5523 yawn, superficial human.
@Phonotical actually there's no such thing.

what the hell are you talking about?
@@PolytronikDigital The cheap makeup on Vincent Price in the films,,, Are you slow?
Budget, Time Restraints...it was guaranteed to make money, so quality in makeup was not a consideration
