    I bought a Bronze Oxide TRD OR. Honestly I wanted Celestial Silver, since it seems like every car I've owned has been silver, its just kind of my thing, but the Bronze is such an interesting color. It's dark enough to hide dirt but light enough to hide scratches, might be the best color I've ever seen for staying clean. Not to mention I've gotten comments on the color A LOT. I bought it because it's all there was to buy at the time but I'm glad I did.

    I own a detail shop. Dark colors, especially black, always show everything and are often a bit more difficult to polish than lighter colors, but I agree, the "Underground" looks really nice! In addition to the infrequency of using the clay bar, you also don't want to get into the habit of polishing too often. These newer trucks don't have a lot of clear coat on them to begin with (maybe ~2 mils) and with every polish you're removing some of it. More of a concern if you get yourself a machine polisher, but even by hand you're still removing clear coat. It's a hell of an initial investment, but it could be worthwhile for you to get a PPF wrap like XPEL, STEK, or Suntec. Just be aware that these require maintenance for best results.
    Your instincts served you well in questioning whether or not to polish those plastic flares. That's textured plastic and if you continue to polish them they will lose their appearance. Best bet is to just protect them as best as you can and if they really get beat up, replace them before trade-in or sale.
    This is one of the reasons I went with white for my 2024 OR. Of course, like you mentioned, it is a truck! It's okay to let it develop a little character.

    You just helped future Tacoma owners decide on what color to choose their future rig and also what to do or how to do it when it comes to getting rid of minor hits from off roading.
    All our past and present vehicles have been black or red so we know that darker colors will defintiely scream a little louder with scratches and dings but it is what it is. Everything is about pros and cons and if I can have my way... there will be a Lexus GX with a 5.7 L with a 6 speed manual and just half an inch lower lol. I think you're truck is as gorgeous as could be.

    I feel your pain Chloe! When my wife and I went to the Nissan dealer to buy our 1996 Maxima, there was a dark gray ("granite pearl") SE model sitting in the lot. That car really caught my eye because the color shifted depending on the angle in which the sunlight shone on the paint! The problem was, 15-minutes after I washed the car, it would already have a light layer of dust on the paint! Scratches and dents were visible from 10-feet away!
    We now own a "glacier white" Toyota RAV4!

    When I bought my 2024 TRD Off Road Premium, I also got the Toyota OEM rear differential skid plate. That being the lowest ground clearance item under the truck. Too bad about the paint issues. I wanted the same color as you but my dealer had a Blue Crush Metallic on allocation that had everything I wanted, option wise and I’m glad that I got it. I’ve had so many compliments. Especially the way it changes from a blue to dark purple hue depending on the lighting.

    During your purchase process, really thought you were going to pick the white Tacoma due to aftermarket products standout. The underground color looks great when clean 🧼 great content and you will find a happy medium.

  • @pewterngold
    @pewterngold Месяц назад +2

    The issues you’re having with keeping the underground color looking good and scratch free is exactly why I didn’t go with that color or black when I purchased my 2024 4Runner. Given where you drive your truck, you should definitely consider having it professionally detailed with a ceramic coating and a good PPF. Doing so will protect your investment long term and make it easier to keep clean and scratch feee.

  • @mikes7056
    @mikes7056 Месяц назад

    I have a 23 Corolla in Underground and I couldn't agree more with your comments Chloe! I thought it was just me but this color does seem prone to scratching easily which makes me somewhat regret this paint color choice also. I invested in professional paint correction, ceramic coating, and PPF and I am still paranoid of causing scratches in my paint finish each time I wash the car. My detailer even noted how extremely soft the paint was on my Corolla during the paint correction process. However, I personally think all new model Toyota paint finishes are suffering from major flaws such as chipping and other defects probably due to new environmental regulations in the paint formulations and overall cost cutting measures such as thinner factory paint application. It's very disappointing to say the least especially when your spending upwards of almost $50k or more for a Tacoma. I really hope this new Underground paint color will remain durable over the long term and doesn't suffer any major issues like peeling found in the Toyota white colors. I do love the color of Underground as it is a very unique paint color but if I were to do it all over again, I think I would go with silver just for the ease of maintenance and for hiding any minor blemishes, dirt, etc. of daily driving.

    Nu finish car polish does very well and its simple just like what you used , glaze on wipe off . Water repels right off after . I can see a reflection off my door even at night just from moon light . Or a porch light from 100 yards away will make it reflect anything in-between that moves . I an look at my security camera on screen and see something moving next door in my door lol . I enjoy keeping my truck clean as well . I have this massive 199 or more magic eraser pads I got off temu and that's best thing to leave no scratches and get the deep bug juice off lights . Highly suggest for tuff stuck on scrub stuff with no worry if damage cause soft

    I do Search & Rescue in Western Washington with a heavily modified 2000 Grand Cherokee, silver gray. Although a light color it too showed pinstripes prominently... until I ceramic coated it. Have some PPE too. Keeping paint clean before missions means far less pinstriping and the ones I do get come right out. My new 2024 Trailhunter is in Underground... did not have a choice at the time. I also ceramic coated it. Will see how it stands up.

    Hello Chloe. Thanks for touching on this subject. I have a 2024 Toyota 4Runner. I had nothing but issues with the Underground color since I purchased the truck brand new. It chips easily. I have so many rock chips and I only have 1,200 miles on the truck. I took it to the dealership and they will not do anything. I believe the paint is very cheap. I believe it’s where Toyota cut cost. My only option now seems like getting a wrap on the truck 🤦🏾‍♂️

    Great video Chloe. I swear I don’t know if it’s your camera settings or lighting or what or my tv 😂 but your truck looked black until you washed it. Like others have stated, I think you’d have less post trip work to do if you paint corrected, and then ppf then ceramic coat. I’d check with Toyota they may have ppf already made for hood, front bumper, front qtr, doors and bed and tailgate. Might be a cool video to have it done then test it out. I have a 23 4R TrD Or Prem with the XP Predator package and the hood is fully ppf, mirror tops and grooves behind door handles and couple other spots. But yes, it's a beautiful color and has some gloss, which is what i like. The truck is for off road adventures but still can look shinny while doimg those adventures. U can get away with a dual action polisher to remove those surface scratches with the right pads.

    Nice truck. I love my Tacoma and was going to get a 4th gen TRD Pro too but with such over inflated Toyota Tacoma prices I purchased a used C8 Corvette with 2433 miles instead and OMG I am in heaving the time of my life in it.
    Toyota has F up things bad lately and I am sure their truck sales numbers will or have gone done. Their prices have gotten to ridiculous and the reliability has goes down too. With the Tundra and Tacoma issues.
    Sry love your channel and didn’t mean to be negative but Toyota pissed me off $65k for a TRD Pro is sad. I could have gotten a Ranger Raptor for $55k

    I’ve got a 2020 4Runner TRD Pro in super white. That color has had chipping issues also. Toyota has definitely compromised on paint in the past number of years.
    I would be curious how it would hold up if you used Ethos graphene or ceramic coating. I bar clayed my 4Runner and used their Resist Graphene coating. Been over 6 months and I rarely have to wash it. And I have really no scratch marks. I occasionally take it through a car wash or if we get a hard rain all I have to do is wipe it down with some their Defy quick wash. I’ve bucket washed it I think twice since May. Most of the time a hard rain and drive and it’s clean again. Ethos is ridiculously easy to use and it just works. I have gallons of their product. And clean up after mud or dirt is super easy.
    It would be interesting to see if you detailed and prepped the Tacoma with Ethos Graphene 2.0 or Resist if those streaks would be as difficult to remove or show up at all after a wash. I’ve been treating my 4Runner since about 6 months after it was new. Took me a few months to find their product but once I did, I never buy anything else now.

Chemical guys is great for beginning but for real results on polishing you gotta up it to pro grade stuff. Sonax perfect finish is an amazing one step polish and super forgiving. Start with an iron decontamination, and then clay, and then polish. Clay bars and scrubbers do marr the paint so make sure to polish after claying. hand polishing will not do much, a machine is a much better choice

    I personaly think underground is tacoma's best color. Blue crush is a close 2nd. To darn many black red and silver cars and trucks on the road.

    IDK if it's indicative of Tacoma's move to Mexico. But my Tacoma's paint job is horrible. To the point that I am Lemon Lawing, the vehicle. I took it back to the dealership the day after I bought it. I noticed serious flaws in the paint when I washed it the day it was bought. There's debris in the paint and clearcoat. Imperfections, like cats-eyes and blotches in the celestial silver metallic paint. Not to mention, spotty clearcoating. The dealerships' service manager wanted their dealership rep to look at it. So they made me an appointment a week later. In the meantime, my rear painted fender flares got chipped up. From year old oiled and chipped roads. Which are unavoidable in my home state. To make a long story, short. The Toyota dealer rep was a jagoff. They tried a few things, like clay-barring the truck. Waxed it and polished it with a buffer. Unfortunately, they managed to make it worse. So, I took it to my buddy's high-end hotrod shop. Had his painter and detailer look at the vehicle. They mapped all the defects, did a thickness test on the paint itself, and did an acid rain test on the Tacoma. Conclusion: The vehicle needs repainted. Disassembled, stripped, prepped, and painted. The estimated cost was $23 grand. Then, I took it to two reputable autobody shops. The conclusions were the same. Only the estimates were slightly different. To date, my 24' Tacoma has been to the dealership 9Xs for cosmetic issues. I've even tried to remedy the chipping issues myself. By replacing the OEM splash guards and the tires. My bed caps are lifting off. Because Toyota used some kind of half-inch foam tape instead of 3M automotive tape. There's no lip on the composite bed to mount a tonneau cover. So they're mounted on Toyota's track for tow hooks. There's no way to sandwich the tonneau cover frame straight down. Instead, they cantilever in some goofy angle that lifts the bed caps off of the bed. IMHO, these automakers are trying to build these vehicles cheaply to make maximum profits. They skimped on the paint, clearcoat, and tried to find the cheapest materials. I had the Tacoma on my lift the other day. I found a big plastic plug right behind the passenger front tire. It is so loose it isn't even funny. It's either a drain or an electrical chase. Then, the radiator fan shroud has like an inch of play in it. The hood flutters, and so does the glove box door. The foot tread on the rear bumper slides back and forth. If you dry the grill after washing the vehicle. It sounds like an aluminum can crinkling. What a POS! It is like one of those little tike battery vehicles for kids. I can't wait to get out of this heap.....

    White and Silver are the easiest to maintain and hide scratches the best. Blueprint would have been worse than Underground.

    Have you had any issues with the truck. I am still scared to buy it due to the 4 cylinder turbo and that outlandish price is freaking nuts.
