    I am running a 3600 with this board and it works great. Boosts to 4,2 ghz all core no problem and can stay there forever without throttling ever. You only need to make sure that you have high amounts of airflow, for example a mesh case (e.g. NR600) with 2 or 3 case fans, since that will pull down temps by a lot, especially with a mATX board like this, where the components are so cramped together. I would recommend this board for budget builds that don't want to upgrade much in the future
    PS: I bought the board because of your review, so thanks a lot for this vid!

    Excellent video. I am considering buying a PC with this motherboard and then upgrading the CPU to a 5000 series CPU. As the 5800x is only £0 more than the 5600x in my region I was also concerned about the vrm. Based on your benchmarking I may comprimise with the 5700x as it only has a 65w tdp compared to the 105w of the 5800x.

    I have this board currently with a R5 1600 AF at 4ghz overclock and don't experience any thermal throttling at all, which is to be expected as per your video, though I do also have a 60mm fan resting on top of my CPU cooler pointed towards the VRM's as I also sensed they could well be a limiting factor with OC/high core count CPU, I plan to upgrade to 3800 after Ryzen 4000 series and will monitor how they hold up at that point before deciding whether to upgrade or not

      Enio Apolinario This board can handle the 3700X for sure, since up to 85W it works perfectly. I can test other boards that I have here but since I’ve already done the Tomahawk and the Taichi there aren’t much left, testing the Crossairs is pointless since they are monsters. Maybe I will try to find a budget X570

  • @benfurtado101

    Great video! As a computer technician as well, I also think the safest and best processor for the B450M-A Pro Max is the 3700X, although the bios that comes with the board overvolts it by mistake, I fixed the Vcore and SOC manually with stable 4Ghz all cores and got 10280 on 3DMark processor points. It is pulling nearly 110W in stress tests and around 85W usage average(the CPU). So the AMD TDP reference is just symbolic.

    Hi. Very informative and well done video. I have been looking for a video like this for a long time. I am considering buying B450M PRO-VDH Max Motherboard and Ryzen 5 1600 AF CPU. I read that B450M PRO-VDH Max has better VRM heatsink than for example B450M-A PRO Max or B450M PRO-M2 Max. I would like to upgrade to ryzen 7 3700x or 3800x in a couple of years. Do you think that B450M PRO-VDH Max motherboard's VRM will handle 3rd gen Ryzen 7 CPUs? Maybe you could test this motherboard as it is also a budget micro ATX motherboard but with a little bit better VRM heatsink. I just don't want to spend more than 80 euros for a motherboard right now for 1600 AF build, but I would like to upgrade my CPU in the future. Looking forward to your reply!

    Do you think the MSI B450-a pro max (not the micro atx) should handle the 3950X similar to the Tomahawk Max? I ask only because it looks like the VRM section is similar. I think the Tomahawk has a bit larger heat sink but otherwise I think they are similar.

    • @HardwareNumb3rs
      @HardwareNumb3rs  4 года назад +1

      Maybe, but is a big risk, if you need a 3950X for multithreading I wouldn’t go cheap on motherboard, an entry level X470/570 is by far a better choice, driving a motherboard to the limit is risky, it may work fine for years or start a nasty troubled relationship 😁

      @@HardwareNumb3rs Ok much appreciated it :) Was curious for down the road. I have the board an its got a 3600X on it which is of course no problem for it, but I thought for later if I saw a second hand chip for cheap ;)

    • @HardwareNumb3rs
      @HardwareNumb3rs  4 года назад

      svtcontour if you don’t need much cores you may look for a 6/8 core Zen3 as an upgrade (if the board will have the updated bios) or if you game only a 3950X won’t be better than yours, if you don’t have 3600/3733 capable ram (and do manual tuning) this will be something you should looking after to get a good performance bump 🙂

I have a Ryzen 5 3600 and 16GB of 3200MHz Ram, I'll be doing some video editing (nothing crazy, 1080p is enough good to me) do you think it will hold up well or do I have to engineer some kind of heatsink to throw in there before doing any kind of demanding task?
