This is exactly what I was thinking! I just purchased a 2024 trailer and don't want to deal with the lap sealant issues from UV. I've only had it about a week but I'm going to put this stuff on top of everything to help protect the lap sealant from the Sun and adding an layer of waterproofing on top of that.
@67lnr80 is it eterna bond we're speaking of... Apologie in advance, but I'm in Canada, in a very humid climate and the winter is fast approaching... probably a month and a half from now so I don't have time to read through all the comments. Thanks for any help
Just taped my heartland toy hauler.. it’s a 2022…. Such a peace of mind. And sooner you do it once you buy your rig the better.. now when it rains, I have zero worries about leaks. Which as a full timer it’s. Amazing feeling….
Excellent video. I’ve been working as a Rv tech since retiring from carpentry. Eternabond tape is a worthy product. If I may offer a few IMO tips; clean, clean, clean, the cleaner the better. I use Oxiclean with a soft to medium bristle scrub brush. For really stubborn dirt afterwords rapid remover on a soft towel will help remove some of the chalking of the sealant making for better adhesion. If it’s several layers we use an oscillating tool with a smooth blade to shave the layers down ( the idea is to prevent damming around the penetration). Eternaclean works well just prior to installation, but, acetone on a rag works just as well. My suggestion for all corners of tape is to round the edges like you see in the ladder penetration in the video. You do this with really sharp tight bladed scissors, pull the scissors back slightly as your cutting. Tack one end of the tape down and with slight tension align while peeling back the backing tape. You don’t want to pull too hard for the tape will be under constant tension if you do and start to recoil over time. Pay attention you get one chance to put it down! Wherever it touches it calls home.😂 Great preventive maintenance work done. Water is the enemy of these campers keeping it out is essential. I’ve seen 5 year old campers that were literally sponges and once we opened walls it took days to dry out even with dehumidifiers. My advice if your not using your camper cover it to keep the water off. Even if it’s the roof and a couple of feet down the sides it will extend the life of your camper by years.
@@MichaelMaduske sorry I didn’t know, and you didn’t call! Hope you were able to correct it, they’re salvageable due to less water absorbent materials than they used in the past.
I applied Eternabond to all my roof and slide seams 12 years ago. It’s still sealed like the day I installed it. I had a leak on my slide from day one that the dealer would dump lap sealer on and it would start to leak again after 6 months. The prep was a lot of work and you have to pay attention to the install.
13 years ago while looking over failed sealant I made a choice. I stripped all the sealant....all of it right down to bare aluminium. I cleaned and prepped as needed. Down went Eternabond tape. It was a little work to prep it right but I would do it again ...if I ever need to.
This is what I think I['m going to do. The whole roof. You can get this stuff 12" wide I noticed! I have a weird roof and not alot of options and I just want to go camping! Lol
I did the roof on my last trailer 20 years ago. It's still holding up well and looks great. I ended up using Hengs on the rest of the EPDM roof, which also has worked well for over 5 years now. Prepping with acetone caused the glue under the EPDM to let go. When I do my new trailer, I will steer clear of it.
Just found your channel. It’s awesome!! Yes I taped over all my lap sealant with eternabond tape about 7 years ago and it’s been holding up just fine. We ordered a new trailer last week and this will be one of the first things I do.
You don't have to reapply lap sealant every year , I live in Florida (HOT , Rains all the time) I reapply every 5 years whether it needs it or not, no problems.
I don't understand the negative comments here. The people that love lap sealant are upset with this for some weird reason lol I guess they are the lucky few that haven't had to deal with water issues...... But for me I did on my last motorhome and it was a nightmare and I got up on the roof of my brand new camper trailer and saw the lap sealant was perfect without cracks and I thought to myself I'm going to put the internal bond over the lab sealant to protect the lapsulin from UV rays. If for some crazy reason the eternal bond fails then I have a second barrier underneath it that is basically brand new with no UV damage. And yes I know how to spell this stuff but I'm using my voice text and being lazy. On a side note this 2024 trailer that is brand new claims to have a 2-year warranty on everything and a 3-year structure warranty but when I talk to the warranty department the roof sealant aka joints and penetrations only have a 3-month warranty, that tells you how confident they are in their sealing products. They said if I put that tape on the roof it would void the warranty and I laughed at them and I said what warranty
Good tip. 👍🏼 You can see in the video I started to do this on a section around the ladder on the roof, rounding the corners. Definitely a little more work cutting but probably smart. I gave up on it after inspecting my old Eternabond patches and noticing the corners were just fine. But yeah definitely a good idea for extra protection. Thanks for watching.
I live in a temporal rainforest in Southeast Alaska called the Tongass National Rainforest; we get an average of 13 feet of rain per year. I can't wait to try this Eternabond on my RV roof; for me, water protection is THE most important thing. I live on an island so I will be spending most of my time here because putting the RV on a barge or ferry gets expensive.
I rejuvenated my 97 Tiffin Allegro EDPM rubber roof this spring, and this (using Eternabond) is very similar to what I did at each and every roof penetration point. That said, I went one step further and coated the entire roof with Henry Tropicool silicone. At 26 years old, my EDPM had seen better days. While it still had *some* life left and I have seen WAY worse roofs, I decided that it was time to not chase little leaks again. I removed ALL the old sealant/caulking, and all trim. While I left the AC, shower dome, and refer vents on, I did take the opportunity to replace the old ceiling fan vents with new MaxxAir versions....esp since this was (hopefully) the last time I'd be doing any real roof work. After installing the new vents, I used Eternabond on EVERY penetration point, including over the front/rear fiberglass cap trim pieces. Following that, I taped off where I didn't want silicone and rolled it on. After two coats, the roof looks new with Henry's lifetime warranty. If you have time and an extra $400, I highly recommend Henry Tropicool over that Eternabond.
Sounds like you’ve really bullet proofed that roof! I’ll have to look at that Tropicool, sounds interesting. Definitely appreciate you watching and your comment 👍🏼
I was literally going to ask about this. I really appreciate your comment! We just purchased our first RV, and it being a 2004, it’s due for some modernization, as well as a fresh sealing on the roof (thankfully, still no leaks). The previous owners took very good care of it, but now it’s time for a bit of refurbishing. I’ve had a hard time trying to figure out exactly what to seal it with, and was thinking I had to pick only one product, but thank you again for this!
@@HiplessDoesIt Just make sure you do do the butyl tape and eternabond BEFORE you Tropicool because they WILL NOT adhere correctly to silicone based coatings. And, for added measure, if you caulk like I did after the Tropicool (or similar), make sure you use a silicone-based caulk. The hardest part (for me) was getting under the AC units...everything else is accessible...I just didn't want to go through the pain of R&R. That part of the EDPM doesn't get any sun or much water anyway, so I think I'm safe.
Just did the eterna bond and Henry's tropical white and it came out great. Solid ruged and smooth and easy to clean. This roof is like a bathtub liner. Worth every penny. I highly recommend this. I did it with my 2017 coleman now the 2021 wildwood lite. Love it. Great security for piece of mine. When you pay $24,000 for a rv $500 is nothing. In the winter I have a cover for it. Like my father who was an aviation mechanic he taught me take care of your stuff it will take care of you.
Have a RPod which has one piece fiberglass roof that runs all the way from front to back. The point of weakness as far as water intrusions is the seams between the sidewalls and the roof. After replacing the crappy vinyl trim and the gazillion non galvanized screws that comes from the factory many in our community, including myself, cover those seams with Eternabond. Many have 5+ years on theirs with no signs of degradation.
Hey I’m thinking to do this with my sides as well. Because my fiberglass roof is like yours . You mention the screws. Does this mean you took them out and re-butyled the side trim ? ( roof - side trim channels) . And why lap sealant it then do Eterna bond tape ?
Being a roofer for 30 years when I redid my roof, I use the Eterna bond tape and then I used 100 year quad underneath all my vents and then I used metal roofing screws with the washer instead of the little jump screws they give you you’re going on seven years now and not one leak through the roof and I don’t have to get up there and replace the lamp ceiling every year either there is way better ways of doing it in the camper places doing it as fast as he can get it done
I have a skylight that just started leaking after owning new less than a year. I will be ordering that tonight and at least doing all my vents and skylights now. Thank you for the great video!
Did the front and back caps and all the vents on my 05 Jayco 5th wheel and what a difference. Like you said, even after several years it was perfect. I had gotten the idea from Ray on "Love Your RV" who did this to his Cougar 5th wheel.
Really?! It’s always been around for a long time and most RVers use it for permanent patch work but it’s great for sealing entire roofs. Thanks for watching
You can use brake clean to clean your seals before appling the tape it will not harm the seals or the roof membrane. Spray it on wipe it off your good to go.
@@timpors7480 you don’t want to use Brake cleaner or carb cleaner because it leaves behind a small amount of petroleum, what you should use in Electric Motor Cleaner, this has Zero petroleum
Due to the video getting long I cut that part out but Ross over at RV Tips n Travels in his 1 year review video around the 7:30 mark explains how he would remove it and I’d do the same. Link down below. ruclips.net/video/f4YXYYWWtbA/видео.html Plus you can search on RUclips and find other videos on removing it. 👍🏼 It will be a pain just like the lap sealant is too. Thanks for watching!
I see all these videos about resealing every year. I'm new to this and have had 2 TT in the last 2 1/2 years. I've not found one person that reseals every year. Mine is kept outside and I inspect the roof every couple of months. When and if I do see a problem I don't plan on resealing the entire roof.
Thanks for addressing the complaints about Eternabond. It makes total sense that if it's hard to remove, it's a positive that indicates longevity. If carefully prepped and applied then outlasting lap sealant should be the result.
I first used the 2 inch EternaBond tape to address a leak in our bunkroom slide. When I finally figured out the problem was on the roof of the slide, I cleaned up all the nasty looking glue that was up there. Cleaned the roof with dish soap so it was so clean I could eat off it. Then I put the EternaBond on. Stuck really nice. No leaks in that slide since. I've since used it on the edge of the roof where I discovered a tear in the roof membrane about 3 inches long. I've already decided I wanted to do this project. I bought the 3 inch EternaBond, but I also haven't started yet. Can you imagine an RV roof that's 100% EternaBond Tape? LOL
Thank you Chris! Your video convinced me, so I installed the Eternabond on my 2022 Rockwood 2608BS this weekend. I am very impressed with this product, and your instructions helped tremendously.

As long as you take your time, clean the roof, and apply this flat, it will outlast your membrane. If you get small areas of failure, you can go over it with more eternabond. Here’s our 2 year review; This is What Eternabond Tape Looks Like After 2 Years on an RV Roof ruclips.net/video/FZzLNorRAmo/видео.html
Go do this now , Why Wait ? I had Eternabond on my previous MH for 7 years. It looked as good on year 7 as the day I applied it. I done my 2021 Solitude a month after I got it. That was 2 years ago and still looks new.
Most excellent video, I have used Eternabond tape for yrs with great results, If you need to remove the tape just use a heat gun heat it slightly and pull then scrape and use acetone to remove the residue.
He even did a two year review of his roof with eterna bond and still looks good! My class C is two years old and sealant looks good but I’m leaning on eterna bond up there. I don’t see any cons with it. If you had to replace a skylight you’d still have to use a plastic scraper just to get a ton of lap sealant off so no big deal.
Yup, I saw that video. Me and him text a good bit. Your right about removing it, the lap sealant sucks just as much. Definitely recommend giving it a shot, do it right the first time, take your time and be done with it. Appreciate you taking time to watch 👍🏼
So we git hit by hail, small to size of a baseball! Crazy stuff. Our 36' is getting a new roof. Thank you for the information. I will definitely wait a bit then put this on top!! I love this stuff. Been watching your videos for a few now. Thanks for sharing all the knowledge!
I taped my roof on my RV just like you did 5 years ago and it’s still looks new. Also it protects the roof edges when I cover the trailer for the winter.
Thank for posting! I’ve had many debates about Eterna bond tape as I’m sure you have. We purchased our Pinnacle over eight years ago. I installed the tape the first week we brought it home and it still looks new. At the factory service center I asked the service manager what his thoughts were on the tape and his response was that if the service techs were building the rigs the tape would be on every one of them.
Hahaha love it!! See I knew some people loved this stuff who were techs. Most techs seem to argue against it but I think that’s because they don’t want to remove it lol Thanks for watching 👍🏼
I have yet to see anyone including techs remove all the old lap sealant when replacing let’s say a vent. They cut through the old sealant around the perimeter of the vent and install the new one and then apply lap sealant over the new flange and old sealant If there is tape it can be removed similar but new installation will be much flatter , smoother and more professional. imo.
I did mine on my 2021 Wild River. The roof was in great shape and wanted to keep it that way. After i taped everthing i plan on using Henry's tropical sealant to finish the whole roof in white. We plan on being snowbirds next winter and heading to Florida so not taking any chances. I don't want to spen fixing i want to enjoy our new camper. Great video. I watch you as well as the other person you recommend. Both of you have great videos. Also i watch Jerry also with i love rv life. Like the different approaches you 3 give. Keep up the good work. PS: On the fixures as i call them as i inspect i use 303 protectant for UV protection and seems to be working well. Also my tires they look like new. 3yrs so far. Got the idea from Jerry. I spray the tires once a month takes less then 10 minutes. All the rubber on doors slides etc. Works great.
Oh yeah. Appreciate you watching. Those are channels are very good too. Love the 303 and have been using it even before RV life started for us. Thanks for the support and again appreciate the comment 👍🏼
I’ve been wanting to do my edges before we get solar. Great tip and as an RV Technician I agree it’s a great and useful product to keep on hand for long and short term repairs.
Oh yeah. I was pretty happy with the overall outcome. Definitely just take your sweet time, it’s not very forgiving once that tape touches the roof. Lol
Thx for this video, I have an older RV and have had great success using Henry’s “Tropicool” to cover most of my Fiberglas roof, but I was curious about using this tape on many of my seams to complete the job. Many of the RV channels say not to use this, but I was wondering why not. It seems that the proper preparation is key to a successful result.
Thanks for posting. I will be doing a roof repair for a friend but will also be using Eternabond tape on my 2021 that we bought new to make sure my trailer doesn't have any issues in the future. Thanks again!
I need to redo my roof. 17 yrs old and some plywood needs replacing. When the next step comes to putting new skylight & vents back on, this tape looks like a better & easier time to seal up. If getting another 15 years out of the entire roof happens, then this less maintenance way seems like a better choice as I'll be in my 60s not wanting to be up there resealing anymore.
Wow, thank you for this excellent video. Eternabond is what I'll be using when the lap sealant on my RV is ready for replacement. My only issue is that the manufacturer gooped on so much lap sealant (I'm talking like almost an inch thick!) and left it very uneven on the top that I'm probably going to have to try to shave it down with a knife or remove most of it before I put on the Eternabond tape.
@@WhyWait I had a bad leak, I didn't have time to do anything with my rv roof this last summer, and once I got the chance we were experiencing 25-40 degree weather and heavy rain was on the forecast for the following week...I removed my old gutters and realized I've been getting somewhere damage through the screws attaching the gutter to the trailer....well the eternabond covers all that plus the edges so that problem is fixed, and then I needed something to seal my roof that could be applied in cold temperatures, which brought me to pick Henry's Tropicool, it can be applied down to 35 degrees and supposedly it only needs 15 minutes and it's rain ready haha. I applied it 3 days before it started raining in 38 degree weather, and it's now been raining heavy for a few days....not even a hint of a leak. I previously would use decor lapseal and it lasted a couple years before it started leaking...I'm confident the eternabond will last longer then my ownership of this rv.
Doing a 2007 Pioneer, Fleerwood 25RL now.... Roofs been untouched , going to wash and remove the old dicor putty.. replace with eternabond tape on both side seems and end caps as well as all the roof mounts... Then 2 coats of Henry's 887 Tropicool.... beautiful little coach just needed some TLC
I agree with the opinion that the "controversy" is mainly from the "RV Tech" side of the industry, as this indeed will result in less repeat business when properly applied. I think another critical point to make is there are many brands of "roof sealing tape" but only one Eternabond. This is where the controversy is really stemming from IMO as other roof tape is inferior. I am no RV Tech as well but rather an avid RV owner since 1988. I have used Eternabond my my last two RVs, the previous lasted 8 years with no issues then sold the RV and my current RV has it installed on ALL lap joints, vents, and other openings for the past 4 years with no known degradation.
Awesome video. I did check out your friend's video on this. I will be ordering the tape to do our RV roof. Had it in for annual maintenance and they found some cracks so they filled them for me. Now I have to wait for that to set to do the Eternabond way. Thanks again.
after just redoing the lap seal on 4 vents of my wife horse trailer I would think that the tape would be faster. I'm definitely gonna eternabond anything else I have to do.
I had a dealership void my extended warranty because i removed all the lap sealant and used Eternabond. Their reason was it was not approved by the manufacture (KZ RV)
I'm 8 months into full-time camper life. 2007 Crossroads Cruiser 32BL. A hail storm got me in April & I need to coat & seal my roof asap. My question is... Why would you cover the screws on slide out with that tape if it's so difficult to remove? What if slide-out needs work?
Those screws I’m covering are nothing more than holding that trim piece in place. Not exactly something that needs to be replaced often and if I do need to remove that trim it basically means I need to remove my whole slide wall and I have bigger problems to worry about than a little tape. Plus the tape is difficult to remove, not impossible, it just takes a little work and patience. 👍🏼
@@WhyWait 2 of my 3 slide outs are delaminating already. That's why I was curious! I'm still in the newborn stages of this lifestyle but love it so far! So, do I do tape or lap sealant 1st... then coating last?
So I've used this before on a pop-up we had and it worked great. So you partially covered the flexible trim molding that covers the screws on the top edge. I guess if that trim ever got brittle and needing replacement, you'd just cut replace and top with eterna bond. I'm so doing this in the spring,,I will sleep better knowing I don't have to get on my roof 2 or 3 times a year.
Yeah I can still get inside that trim too. I did it recently to tighten a screw down. Just popped the bottom out, tightened my screw and popped the trim back in. 👍🏼 Appreciate you watching the video.
Awesome video! I just ordered a roll to fix where my roof meets the front cap seam. I've tried lap sealant and for some reason, it never worked. First thunderstorm and we had water dripping on us while we were asleep! I did use some Flex Seal liquid sealant and it seems to be working. However, I'm going to put this on top of it to be on the safe side. Plus, it's a good idea to bring with you on a camping trip if you need it. Thanks for posting a great, informative video!!
I had a divider net for my old suv and I installed some d rings to split the camp side pf basement. This hold all my camp chairs off to one side and leaves the other side open for other stuff
Hopefully this makes sense but tape will last longer if its not overly stretched beyond its elongation threshold, thus over stressing the top white layer. Yes it is flexible for a reason, I know.
Is there a reason why you said to clean and repair the old lap sealant before applying the tape rather than just removing it completely? The reason I ask is that around my bathroom vent the lap sealant is probably several inches wide. Not sure if I'd want to just tape over it, or would it matter...
If the sealant is still good I’d keep it. I say to clean it because anywhere you apply Eternabond that area has to be properly prepped and cleaned. The sealant just acts as another barrier of protection underneath the Eternabond tape. Unless it’s flaking and peeling up from the roof it doesn’t need to be removed.
4EvaSeal tape shows superior tensile properties when compared to both the Roof Seal and RV Seal tapes. The added thickness of the backing and strength it provides is clearly indicated in the tensile property of the tape. It is 27% stronger than Eternabond Roof Seal and an amazing 124% stronger than Eternabond RV Seal.
I think my leak is at the front end marker lights on my Gulf Stream trailer. One marker light especially was not making contact with the surface wall of the trailer and the screws had actually backed out. I replaced the screws for larger size to get a more snug fit. Then used the lap sealant along the top edge of the markers. Well, I slowed the leak but still getting some to the inside of the trailer. My issue with the tape is that it wouldn’t look too nice if I used it along the top edge of the markers. What do you think?
We bought a 2019 and it’s in need of reseal I have watched these videos and they all argue back and forth so now I’m more confused than ever It’s Texas It’s blistering hot I like the thought of the tape, but it says the Henry’s doesn’t stick to the tape I ordered lap sealant and He ETS already But no tape Would it be a good idea to clean, lap seal, follow with Henry’s then tape the edges etc?
After cleaning and removing any flakey lap sealant , Can just cover the old crack lap sealant with the tape? Can I then paint on a rubberized coating over the tape? will it adhere ?
Lot of work. If the lap sealant is still sticking to the roof and not flaking off I’d just tape over it. It will still basically act as another barrier of protection.
I’m just curious, why would you need to fix the lap sealant before putting the eternabond tape on? Wouldn’t any cracks be covered by the tape? Seems redundant to me
Mainly for when the lap sealant is flaking, cracking and showing signs of peeling up from the roof. If it’s starting to come off the roof your apply tape to something that is in all reality not attached to the rv anymore. I’m sure you could get by without doing this it’s just a precaution and the way I like to do it. Thanks for watching.
PRESSING QUESTION: I have a 15 foot awning & want to seal the membrane that is just above that BUT: How do I go over the mounting hardware? Or do I need to remove the hardware send screws THROUGH the ET or just seal the hardware that attaches to sidewall & protect it better??? IDK what is best. FYI awning is brand new so won't be removing in foreseeable future.
In the beginning of the video you mention that there are perceived negatives to using Eternabond, namely the difficulty of removal and mention that the issue will be addressed later in the video, but you never do. I've applied the product on my roof a few years ago and it's been a godsend! But your thoughts on possible removal would be helpful.
Why wait? Raining now , cold , RV is at Camp park mikes away from my home? Walnuts falling on roof, dirty roof, I need a ladder , am age 78 & afraid I will fall, need a 2nd to pick me off ground or help? Is cold , I have no tape, cost $$, no roller , afraid to crawl on roof, need support or not, don’t have measurement on feet needed like how many cross seams there are , will have to drive up to measure… and did I say need a ladder & tape? 😵💫
Hopefully you don’t mind a question and some information. Question, is the eternabond or the lap sealant the “seal” for a joint or something installed? The answer is absolutely not. The seal is installed before either product can be installed. So, if you have a leak, putting a bandaid on top is just that. You have not fixed the real issue, you just covered it up.
Do you thinks it would be a good idea to put this tape on vertical wall of slide outs to cover screws, which I often heard about people putting sealant over it?
Am in this process of putting Eternabond tape down and have a question that will hopefully get answered before I finish. Haven't been able to locate information on possibly leveling one area that has ponding. Found a solution that resolves this issue on flat roof adobe type homes by putting down 505 Puddle Plaster or Henry 176 PondPatch Filler and Leveler and troweling out to be level. My first question is: can you use this on an RV roof? Henry's does talk about, it can be used over the roof membrane for maintenance or under a new roof membrane. The membrane on these roofs looks like a big sheet of eternabond. 2nd question: after putting eternabond tape down, can I go back over it with Dicor roof coating? Will it stick to eternabond?
First question: I have no clue on that stuff couldn’t tell you Second question: Yes, lots of people actually put roof sealant down along the edges of the Eternabond tape 👍🏼👍🏼
I want to use the eternabond tape on my RV. The one question I have is that I also want to paint the roof, should I paint over the eternabond tape of paint around it?
Great videos! I have a question though about the eternabond at the roof and gutter along the whole side of the rv. You only put it halfway down and not going into the gutter at all. Cant water still get into the screws if you dont seal the bottom of that removeable channel.
Thanks! Pretty unlikely as the screws are set higher up under that channel. I like the fact I can still access the screws by pulling up on the bottom of that piece and tightening a screw if needed which I did do recently on my awning track. But you could go either way with the tape 👍🏼

Wherever it touches it calls home.😂
Great preventive maintenance work done.
Great tips and advice. Appreciate you watching and thanks for the great comment. 👍🏼
Where were you before I realized my2 year old Thor (2022) was ruined due to water intrusion. 😢

Love hearing that! If you know you know, a lot of haters out there that just don’t get it. Appreciate you watching 👍🏼
I've also used eternabond tape on my vents, skylights, and antennas. It's been 4 years and holding up great.
Good deal! Glad to hear it’s been holding up for you. Appreciate you watching!
@@mocheeks709tape you NEVER have to reapply. Much better than sealant
Good practice is to cut the 90 degree corners. Round them. Roofers use this technique. The square corner can lift.
Good Video !
Nice! This should definitely help out and do the trick then. 👍🏼
@@WhyWait Tropicool was worth it in my circumstance...doing it right takes a lot of time, but the end result is a 20+ year roof. :)
Be aware that you can not walk on Henrys Tropicool when it is wet or even damp from morning dew. You will fall!
That’s awesome to hear! Never talked to anybody who didn’t like this stuff. Thanks for watching 👍🏼
Hey I’m thinking to do this with my sides as well. Because my fiberglass roof is like yours . You mention the screws. Does this mean you took them out and re-butyled the side trim ? ( roof - side trim channels) .
And why lap sealant it then do Eterna bond tape ?
Seems like a no brainer to me. Thanks for the great tip!
That’s how I feel about it. Never hear anything bad about the project from people who have done this in the past. Thanks for watching 👍🏼
Good deal. This should do the trick 👍🏼
Did the front and back caps and all the vents on my 05 Jayco 5th wheel and what a difference. Like you said, even after several years it was perfect. I had gotten the idea from Ray on "Love Your RV" who did this to his Cougar 5th wheel.
Awesome. Think I’ve heard of his channel before. Most people say they don’t regret doing this project. Appreciate you watching 👍🏼
Great video, I taped mine 4 years ago, so far so good.
Awesome to hear! Definitely appreciate you stopping by and watching 👍🏼
I like the tape. Used it a few times without any issues.
I’ve not heard of this product before. Thanks for the info.
Really?! It’s always been around for a long time and most RVers use it for permanent patch work but it’s great for sealing entire roofs. Thanks for watching
You can use brake clean to clean your seals before appling the tape it will not harm the seals or the roof membrane. Spray it on wipe it off your good to go.
Brake cleaner removes paint. If it gets on side of rv say goodbye to paint
@@timpors7480 you don’t want to use Brake cleaner or carb cleaner because it leaves behind a small amount of petroleum, what you should use in Electric Motor Cleaner, this has Zero petroleum
And eats through plastic, so if you get any on the skylight it will eat right through so don't recommend brake cleaner
You mentioned, various ways to remove the tape when you need to replace a vent or sky light cover. Do you have video on that?
Due to the video getting long I cut that part out but Ross over at RV Tips n Travels in his 1 year review video around the 7:30 mark explains how he would remove it and I’d do the same. Link down below.
ruclips.net/video/f4YXYYWWtbA/видео.html
Plus you can search on RUclips and find other videos on removing it.
Indeed 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
LOL
Sounds like it would be an expensive RV roof 😂 Definitely a project I put off for way too long. Glad I finally did it!
Thank you Chris! Your video convinced me, so I installed the Eternabond on my 2022 Rockwood 2608BS this weekend. I am very impressed with this product, and your instructions helped tremendously.

Right on 👍🏼Definitely Happy I finally got around to this. I saw the two year video after I was already editing this or I would of mentioned it.
Thanks for the input! Picking up my 2008 Bighorn Thursday. Ordering Eternabond tonight!
Go do this now , Why Wait ? I had Eternabond on my previous MH for 7 years. It looked as good on year 7 as the day I applied it. I done my 2021 Solitude a month after I got it. That was 2 years ago and still looks new.
Right on! 👍🏼 Glad to hear it’s looking good and holding up.
7 years in on my canned ham trailer-chicken coop and so happy with eterna bond. Cleaned with dawn soap water then acetone and still doesn't leak.🎉
Right on! Good stuff, I’m glad yours is holding up great. 👍🏼
Sure thing! Thanks for watching! I’m always worried about hail too. 😬😬😬
Does hail affect rubber-type roofs on RVs?
I taped my roof on my RV just like you did 5 years ago and it’s still looks new. Also it protects the roof edges when I cover the trailer for the winter.
Sweet! I’m glad it’s holding up good for you. 👍🏼
Most techs seem to argue against it but I think that’s because they don’t want to remove it lol
Thanks for watching 👍🏼
I have yet to see anyone including techs remove all the old lap sealant when replacing let’s say a vent. They cut through the old sealant around the perimeter of the vent and install the new one and then apply lap sealant over the new flange and old sealant
If there is tape it can be removed similar but new installation will be much flatter , smoother and more professional. imo.
I would recommend putting the lap sealant on the edges of your tape as I’ve seen many of the eternabond tape sides start to lift after some years
Eternabond tape, great product, I have used it for years and with no problems!
Right on! If you know you know 👍🏼
It is all about how you prep the surface. If it is clean and dry they both work great.
Yes sir!
Lol
If lap sealant is to lap edges, why put it on ? Can’t I just butyl tape, screw in and then Eternabond the surround ? I had to ask
Thanks for video and showing something that taught me how to seal and fixed leaks on campers very good appreciate
Right on. If you do this job prep is key and taking your time. Thanks for watching 👍🏼
I would like to know this question also.
Should you install over seams before applying drip rails on side of old camper?
Thanks for posting. I will be doing a roof repair for a friend but will also be using Eternabond tape on my 2021 that we bought new to make sure my trailer doesn't have any issues in the future. Thanks again!
Sure thing Ron. Just prep well, clean and take your time applying. Thanks for watching and commenting 👍🏼
I couldn’t agree more 👍🏼Good luck with the project. Just prep correctly and take your time doing this. Should last for a long time!
Another great video. I did my roof with EB four years ago, it's holding up great.
That’s great to hear! Appreciate you watching and commenting 👍🏼
Sure thing. Appreciate you checking it out. Good luck with the project. 👍🏼
Loved your video, clear and well made, it answered all my questions! Am now a subscriber.

I applied it 3 days before it started raining in 38 degree weather, and it's now been raining heavy for a few days....not even a hint of a leak. I previously would use decor lapseal and it lasted a couple years before it started leaking...I'm confident the eternabond will last longer then my ownership of this rv.

Ive even heard people running a small bead of lap sealant on the edges of the eternabond. Just bought a 2018 Forest River!
Yup. Me too. 👍🏼
You should use dicore also with the tape. Caulk all the edges of the tape and any over laps of the tape.

Just take your time and do the prep work properly. Go slow and seal it up good 👍🏼
I used VHB and eternabond tape to flat mount solar panels on my cargo trailer back in 2019. It has many uses. 👍
For sure, it’s adheres to almost any surface. Really good stuff for many applications. 👍🏼
So you didn't have to screw them in at all?
@@jjmcwill1881 Not at all. The roofing material on my cargo trailer is thin, sorta like a plastic cardboard. It's still up there with no issues.
I used it on my Solar panels and it held them to the roof of my class A
Good deal 👍🏼👍🏼
Nice 👍🏼 I agree people may not understand the high quality of this tape and when properly prepped and applied how effective it is.
Awesome video. I did check out your friend's video on this. I will be ordering the tape to do our RV roof. Had it in for annual maintenance and they found some cracks so they filled them for me. Now I have to wait for that to set to do the Eternabond way. Thanks again.
Good deal. Just take your time, prep really good and you should be all set for the life of the RV. Appreciate you watching Jim 👍🏼
after just redoing the lap seal on 4 vents of my wife horse trailer I would think that the tape would be faster. I'm definitely gonna eternabond anything else I have to do.
Good deal. I think you’ll love it.
I had a dealership void my extended warranty because i removed all the lap sealant and used Eternabond. Their reason was it was not approved by the manufacture (KZ RV)
Those warranties are pretty useless in my opinion anyways
Thanks for the video, made me think about how I use both. Im still in the camp of both has its place. Great ideas and thoughts.... thanks.
Definitely 👍🏼 Best if both worlds right. Thanks for watching 😃
I know it would be expensive, But could you do the entire roof? and not just around the vents and edges?
Expensive and probably a nightmare to do and would look pretty bad. But hey 🤷🏻♂️
Now do a video on what roof coating to use. Such as Henry’s Tropi cool.
Might have to look into that. 👍🏼
Glad it helped! You really can’t beat this stuff. Appreciate you watching. Stayed tuned for an updated video on it coming out soon.
I had a divider net for my old suv and I installed some d rings to split the camp side pf basement. This hold all my camp chairs off to one side and leaves the other side open for other stuff
Nice idea 👍🏼 Thanks for watching.
Hopefully this makes sense but tape will last longer if its not overly stretched beyond its elongation threshold, thus over stressing the top white layer. Yes it is flexible for a reason, I know.
That makes perfect sense, I always try to avoid overstretching the tape, you really don’t have to stretch it at all when applying it.
Can you do a roof coating over the tape?
I can’t speak on that. I’ve never used it and really don’t know anything about it. Sorry
Great video brother!! We are about to do this same project!!
Appreciate that. Just clean well and take your time 👍🏼
I've never heard of this product before but definitely intrigued. Will definitely be ordering some! Thanks for the video.
Oh yeah, even if you don’t do what I did it’s great to have a roll on hand for emergencies. Thanks for watching 👍🏼
I gotta tell ya, Eternabond is Amazing stuff! Lol I would cover my whole roof in it and just clean it here and there if I could.
Right! Still been happy with my project almost a year later 👍🏼
I will be doing this project soon !
Good deal. Just make sure you prep well and take your time. 👍🏼
i need to replace my sealant, can i just remove the old sealant, clean the surface and install the eternabond tape instead of the sealant?
Eternacoat and Gaco make great silicone coati gs but I’m going to try some of the tape you talk about 💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽
Team Eternabond all the way!
Yeah buddy 👍🏼
I think my leak is at the front end marker lights on my Gulf Stream trailer. One marker light especially was not making contact with the surface wall of the trailer and the screws had actually backed out. I replaced the screws for larger size to get a more snug fit. Then used the lap sealant along the top edge of the markers. Well, I slowed the leak but still getting some to the inside of the trailer. My issue with the tape is that it wouldn’t look too nice if I used it along the top edge of the markers. What do you think?
Probably not leaking at the markers and yes it would look crappy with the tape. Chasing down where a leak is really coming from is a nightmare!
Awesome! Gonna get right on it for sure! Definitely the edges like you showed!! Thank you!!!!!!!
Sure thing. Just take your time, go slowly and do the proper prep. 👍🏼
We bought a 2019 and it’s in need of reseal I have watched these videos and they all argue back and forth so now I’m more confused than ever
It’s Texas It’s blistering hot I like the thought of the tape, but it says the Henry’s doesn’t stick to the tape
I ordered lap sealant and He ETS already
But no tape Would it be a good idea to clean, lap seal, follow with Henry’s then tape the edges etc?
After cleaning and removing any flakey lap sealant , Can just cover the old crack lap sealant with the tape? Can I then paint on a rubberized coating over the tape? will it adhere ?
When applying it to the side part of your trailer did you put the tape over the entire trim piece that sits above the gutter?
No I came half way down on that trim piece. There are screws under there I can still access if need by popping the bottom part up if needed.
So my question is is it not better to remove the lap sealant and then apply tape
Lot of work. If the lap sealant is still sticking to the roof and not flaking off I’d just tape over it. It will still basically act as another barrier of protection.
I really want to get up on the roof and do mine, but its currently 95-100 degrees outside.
A bit hot for sure. This project cost me a pretty good sun burn on my back hahaha. You might want to wait for cooler weather. Thanks for watching 👍🏼
This is what I want to know too!!
This is a better way to go. Ordering today! Thank you!!
Right on. Just take your time and prep correctly 👍🏼
If your putting a case of lapsealant on your roof every year, you got other issues. Lol
The tape is great, when used properly. Nice vid.
This is true! Lol but I will say the stuff doesn’t go far. Thanks for watching 👍🏼
I'm going to put dicor coating on roof. Should I do that first then add the tape?
😵💫
All Sounds like a good reason “to wait”
Hopefully you don’t mind a question and some information. Question, is the eternabond or the lap sealant the “seal” for a joint or something installed? The answer is absolutely not. The seal is installed before either product can be installed. So, if you have a leak, putting a bandaid on top is just that. You have not fixed the real issue, you just covered it up.
My slide out has some black tape on the long side. Should I remove this before adding the Eternabond?
Without seeing or really knowing what you’re talking about I couldn’t say. Sorry.
How much would be needed for Coleman Lantern 17B travel trailer? 2" or 4"?
Can’t say really. I’d go with the 4 inch wide though to get a good coverage over the lap sealant
Do you thinks it would be a good idea to put this tape on vertical wall of slide outs to cover screws, which I often heard about people putting sealant over it?
@@simoncarrier9320 it probably wouldn’t look too good to be honest and I suppose the sticky tape edge could catch the seals/wipes sometimes.
First question: I have no clue on that stuff couldn’t tell you
Second question: Yes, lots of people actually put roof sealant down along the edges of the Eternabond tape
👍🏼👍🏼
