- As Furniture artists we are all probably familiar with comissions. But are they worth it. for me the answer is complicated. I was asked to do one recently and it was such an interesting project I thought I would do it. The client was perfect and we understood each other perfectly. Plus how often do you get to create a DJ's Mixing desk out of a piece of furniture that will be used for a residency at
the Edinburgh Festival. Exactly.

Oh I fell in love with this one as soon as I saw this picture. 🥰 as for the talk for me as I get older my energy and my mental state are to important to me. I will stay away from anything that brings me down or stress me out. lol I pick and choose my battles wisely. Plus I feel I have put those dues in and now it’s time for me with due respect. This is beautiful piece!

This is so beautiful, Lel! Lucky DJ, that Colin! I loved the foundation colors alone, I always love your pieces from the very beginning. Also, I just saw a documentary that Europe DOES have a population of ring necked parakeets that are an established population now! So no parrots, but yes parakeets!

I think your picnic blanket color pick was perfect. I don’t think the red and blue one would have been as nice.
Yes your right, I liked it by the end I think red would have made it look very whimsical and that's not what I wanted x
Even before I watch the video…I must say I LOVE your overalls. They remind me so much of 1978 and roller skates. The ties at the shoulders are everything. You look so cute!!! I think I may have owned a pair at the time. I know I had a pink corduroy pair and I tied them at the top and then tied the ankles with matching ribbon. I haven’t thought about them in a very long time. THANKS FOR THE VINTAGE MEMORIES! Class of 86.
Ha ha oh yes I definitely remember these In the 80's I had them in pink and mint green..... But I was a slim wee thing.... Now I look like a I'm wearing a circus tent 🎪🎪🎪🎪
@@MadebyMarley yes I had a ripping hourglass figure in those days. But alas I am now built for comfort not speed. Wearing scrubs during my 30 yr work life insured that I would be more prone to pajamas in real life. I’m so happy you are feeling better.

This is a statement piece that makes such a statement that it leaves me speechless! It's like I'm at a picnic in the middle of nature without a care in the world, just feeling the soft grass and smelling the flowers and listening to the wind and the hum of a bumblee's wings. It's warm, cheerful, refeshing, and just delightful! I give it 10 thumbs ups!

I love it too Marty. When I first saw the checks only the live the other day I thought WOW isn't that different but now I know it's a picnic blanket it's even better. I reckon if it was red & white it would have been predictable and Alice in Wonderlandish. Bloody brilliant and I can't wait to see it on stage 🧡🧡🧡
Yes.... I commited to the picnik blanket but all the way through I was unsure. Until the end and your right if I had used red and white it would have taken it in a whimsical direction..

Holy cow, this is fantastic, we are at a clean out, and my husband watched it with me, on our breaks. he said to tell you '' Que te quedo muy bonito'',. you did a beautiful , LOL I think thats the translation , Gorgeous Lel, I'm glad you talked about the commission thing, I sold a french provencial dresser I had done about 3 years ago, and then the girl purchased a safe that had a side cabinet kind of hiding it for her husband, so I painted it to sort of match, she loved it, now shes waiting for me to paint a french provencial nightstand for her, this was about 2 weeks ago, we are soooo busy, I havnt even started it, she told me no hurry, but still it's stressing me out. A man want's 2 nightstands that have a wolf theme, and another lady wants a buffet type table for her T.V. she wants deers, elks, that sort of design. I told them it would have to be in the fall when things slow down a bit. Oh Lel when you have a minute , I put a video of our store up on Saturday, our neighbors 16 year old daughter worked for us, while we came to do this estate clean out. If you can watch it, if you and Martin have any advice, please let me know.

Another fabulous video thanks Lel. I live in the Australian version of the Borders - no big cities nearby etc. Do you have any tips for how to advertise your pieces to get them sold? Thanks
Hmmm if you can ship them pop them on Etsy... If that's not something you can do advertise them in the nearest big town or city. Add the delivery to the piece and deliver them.....

😂I make beaded jewelry and I do not do commissions ...learned the hard way..customers say things like "I dont like the colors". But they selected the colors...Etc
Your right, often I feel you know it's not going to be what they want as us creatives know colour and your also right they don't like the end result and then everyone feels a little upset over the process.... No need to get upset.... Just don't do them 😂😂😂😂
Hello, I love it, what paper do you print on?
I own a decoupage company so any images I can print straight onto made by marley paper, it's made on a giant roll the size of a car and shipped over to a paper mill where we store it x

I have so many questions, I am in Canada, do you have a stockist here? Have you ever thought of doing a paint class. I ask as I have a bunch of wooden items I bought for 14 dollars, one is a 4 ft tall skinny cabinet, it is all raw wood but want to make a gift for my daughter. I am nervous to get started...sigh. Also what are the paint squeeze bottles you use?
I've done commission pieces, but I don't enjoy it. I stress over making something the client hates, and then I have ruined thier piece of furniture. Not to mention I get complete creative blocks on commissions. So, made the decision to not do them. Debra Iddings in Sheridan Wyoming USA

The "Big Daddy" was copied from the VIP Brush by Paint Pixie, designed by The Turquoise Iris. Paint Pixie makes quality brushes that have been around for years, and are far superior to the copy. Just in case anyone wants to invest in a brush like you used, I've had one for four years and it's still in perfect condition because I take care of it, great for laying down paint and blending! Just an fyi...

I use Frenchic tough top coat normally or Annie Sloans clear wax. I used an outdoor varnish called ronseal for this piece x x

Love to watch how you create Marley but are you aware that your sound audio is very broken scratchy and poor quality it’s very difficult. I don’t know what has happened but I thought I’d just let you know it’s some I’ve come back four times to try and watch itbecause I wanna watch you, but the sound is really bad really bad

@@WhiteRavenBookRook hello white Raven, there is nothing wrong with the audio at our end that we can hear, and I've asked 5 or 6 people to go watch it and check it's okay.... I think the poor quality must be at your end on your technology as no one else can hear it. Considering it is so bad I think that of the lots and lots of people have commented and not a single person has said it's bad or scratchy. Our mics are of good quality and recently replaced again, but if you says it's bad then I fear and it's unfortunate for you but maybe it's your tech.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.
After all that I'm so happy you watch and it's a shame the quality was so bad.
