One thing about Shun that is also important to remember is that he is someone who dealt with a serious trauma from a young age, and he continued throughout his life with likely no support from a family. He made a lot of surprising moves on the show 😅 but he is working from a very unique upbringing and mindset. Great review! ❤
I watched the show because of shun , i love him so much 🤣 man is intersting and weird and that why dai loved him from day 1 ..their life wont be boring hahaha
My only problem with this show was what they actually choose to show. Seeing many BTS now, we can a smiling Shun? Talking and actually explaining his feels and why he is acting like that? And nearly seeing only the truck dates was so repetitive ; I would love to see more of them in the house. Like all these BTS of them playing in the pool? Having fun? Come on! And my favorite was def Taeheon; the fact that he tried to help everyone, mainly Shun, because he was the same before... So mature and understanding. Very happy that his coming out went smoothly with his parents, too. He deserves to be loved.
Other than The Boyfriend, I only had His Man as a reference for an achillean dating show, so I often compared the two! Right from the start, I'll say that I preferred The Boyfriend, and for these reasons: 1. The Boyfriend had a very diverse and interesting cast! Not just in looks, but personality-wise, and you can see that just by looking at Usak's drawings. 2. This is kind of random, but I hate the way His Man is color graded LOL. The show looks like unseasoned chicken-I don't know how else to explain it. On the other hand, The Boyfriend has a vivid and bright look. 3. The house in The Boyfriend is very cozy and has a lot of personality, something I don't see in His Man's houses. 4. His Man lacks interesting dynamics, in my opinion, like writing letters and calling someone for 5 minutes. I really enjoyed the truck idea in The Boyfriend; that format is common in straight dating shows I've seen, so it didn't bother me, and I think it's a really cute idea. I just wish they had more group activities because that adds to the drama LOL. 5. The Boyfriend has a panel of commentators! I love a good panel. I do think that The Boyfriend could have done some things differently, like giving them more opportunities to go on dates. Like, come on, they’re there for weeks. I was very interested in getting to know Japanese achillean men because I already had an idea of how Korean men behave, and I was so entertained and glad to see that they were much less timid than the Koreans. They say what's on their minds, they’re confrontational, so I liked that a lot. Now, about some of the contestants on the show: Alan: My fellow Brazilian king! He was a great addition to the show. At the beginning, I was afraid he would be outcasted because of his loud and bright personality, as some people may feel a bit overwhelmed by that. Romantically, I was worried about him but had no doubts that he would befriend everybody. He's such a kind human being and gives THE best advice... I would love to be his friend. Usak: Handsome man with a soft personality! I loved that for him; that contrast makes him very charming. But considering how famous he was, I was worried he wouldn't get to romance anyone, and well... that's what happened, unfortunately. Kazuto: I think that due to his boyish looks and kind face, people are really attracted to him, he was that shonen protagonist vibe/looks you know. He would be my pick as well LOL. But seriously, he's a very kind and honest person. I love how he wasn't bothered by so many people going after him, and he made sure to validate their feelings and reject them with kindness. Ryota: From the get go, I had the feeling that he would be more reserved, but I was glad to see him actively pursue Kazuto as the show went on. Shun: Look, I got really annoyed with his personality, but I respect it a lot! He's very committed to his own beliefs, values, and feelings. He's very self-aware and knows he's hard to handle. We also have to take into consideration that he had a rough childhood, and the kind of rough that not a lot of people can relate to. He's the type of person I would befriend and call out when needed LOL, but I could never date him; I do not have the patience necessary to deal with him! That dynamic with Dai? Nah bro. Dai: Dai is someone I initially judged by his looks LOL. Unfortunately, I share this prejudice with Shun, since he's all ripped and has nudes just floating around on his phone, which Shun apparently stumbled upon. I assumed he was kind of a f-boy, but I was glad that he proved me wrong and is actually a really nice and patient person.
ohhh this cast was everything. now the color grading on his man was def crunchy lol. true true this house felt more inviting. i love the idea of the truck but since they picked and choose what they showed us def felt like it was something to keep them busy. yes we need more dates! mini golf, candle making or something like that

Taeheon - I loooovvvve him! Just like you I was PERPLEXED by how no one was checking for him. Like you said I wish he had more screen time. 😭 Sometimes you’d forget he’s even there. Shun - Even though I like him, I think he’s definitely kinda toxic lol. I was glad to see him start to take accountability for his behaviors towards the end. I just hope he works through his issues a bit more. His reaction to the picture on Dai’s phone annoyed me soooooo much. Like girl you’ve only known this man for all of 5 seconds and you’re trying to make him feel bad because of a picture on his phone???!!!? He’s not even your man yet so why are you tripping so hard. His behaviors in general kinda pissed me off. Like how you gonna tell Dai you wanna just be friends but the stay layed up on him? I still love him though.😭😂 Dai - I LOOOOOVE HIM! If Shun don’t want him I’ll take him! 🙂↕️🤪 He just seems like a nice energy to be around. I couldn’t have put up with Shun’s mess like he did. I’m glad they stayed together though because I do think they’re a cute couple. Gensei - I wanna put him in my pocket he’s so endearing and adorable 🥹😊 Alan - Definitely Best Boy! He’s someone I would love to be friends with. I totally agree with you about the pacing of this show. I literally almost dropped it in the beginning because of how random it was. I actually enjoyed the panel in this show and I thought they had funny commentary. I hated the coffee truck thing 😭💀 The concept was cute I guess but I didn’t care for it. I hope they come up with something else next season.
I hear you about the panel. I kept saying "NOT EVRYTHING BEGS FOR YOUR OPINION "!!!!!! I was over it after the 1st few. The only time I enjoyed them was the reaction to the kiss. Now that was good.

I think for the panel case, we can't really do anything about it.. its pretty much a standard for all Japanese shows😅 tho I would've have loved more episode so we can see more scenes they didn't include even if it isn't that much interesting... I mean we could have a break from the drama and just see them having fun😔
I am going to drag your A S S jk lol I like the show structure it was different. Was it perfect no but I like the coffee truck because it gave them a chance to see how they interacted with other people and gave them a chance to bond. Maybe they could add more coffee trucks or activities to the show, but I thought it was a classy show. I did not miss the produced drama that American show always have. This was a wholesone dating show. A+ for a new show. Maybe things will change for the better when they get a bigger budget.
Nice review I agree with alot of your points on the show.. aesthetically pleasing but needs to improve on providing opportunies for interacfions.. a drunking party would have been very interesting.. lol Loved how soft Usak was.. Alan's energy and how precious Gensei was. Loved how kind Kazuto was.. but he mustve been exhausted from always working on the truck, cooking for them and then turning down guys left and right haha. They couldve have provided Taeheon opportunites to date as well.. very little screentime... such a waste. In the end i got tired of the entire Dai and Shun thing, good for them.
