- More than half of women killed by guns are killed by family members or intimate partners. Telina Huffman was one of these women. Her death was just one of the hundreds during a recent week.

Assault is assault. There should not be a separate court for domestic violence. Domestic violence should be treated as assault.
Agreed. Just because some kind of domestic partnership exists doesn't mean it is a different kind of violence.
Domestic violence allows you to apply for a permanent protective order with a much lower burden of proof. Regular assault is harder to prove, and can only be done so beyond a reasonable doubt in criminal Court. Domestic issues, including physical abuse and rape, also allow the officers to make an immediate arrest of the accused.
But it's not, domestic violence is much more intimate. Being assaulted by someone you love is much different then being assaulted by a stranger.
If there's psychological control or abuse... they'll eventually graduate to physical in a matter of time. Please run.

It’s not enough just there there are battered women shelters, sometimes we need someone to take us by the hand and help escort us away and to safety, sort of guidance through the legal process. It’s too dangerous and scary to just simply “leave” especially when you factor in the housing crisis and how hard it may be to get to the next place. I have been a victim and it’s hard to get out on your own, it really takes a village. We can’t be the ones to take the blame for not leaving. That is so not fair. Another thing, anyone who blames a woman for “not leaving” unless they personally offered to help get into somewhere or offered a place to stay for a while, they have no place to speak, periodt. 🙅♀️
Flip side of this is I have 3 of my friends who every night check their windows and doors then place a pistol on their bed stand and one keeps an AR under her bed. Why, they all made the mistake of dating/marrying a narcissist/sociopath. They quite literally rely on having the ability to protect them selves. We never hear those stories, only stories that get air time is when the victims die not their attackers.
We lost one of our own sheriff's officer responding to a domestic violence incident and another officer injured. The spouse and child were also shot in this 911call.

I’m from the UK and am a calm person, but over my lifetime I can think of situations (when young particularly) when I would have been in danger during domestic arguments & situations.. if access to guns is too easy, it’s then really easy to use one, in haste.. so very sad. The US is unlikely to be able to control guns, so the problems will continue. Take care all & look after your loved ones! Btw, I thought the police officer was really honest and he’s helping by speaking out - brave thing to do!

How about SHE'S JUST CRAZY!! and he's afraid to leave her and leave the kids behind we All know the law and child support favors the women!! What kind of options does a man have?? Take her to court try and get the kids! My family member has lost jobs, had to quite school because she would leave the kids home alone Or worse!! His life with her was HELL!! SHE on the other hand graduate went on to get her Masters in social work!! She tortured and emotionally abused her whole family for years!! And She know how to play the courts and Won! My family member has PTSD..

Yep. We have a serious crime problem in this country. Root causes are economic, drugs, mental illness, cultural desensitization to violence thru movies and music, and perhaps the most significant incompetent judges and DAs not putting violent criminals away for long periods of time. All these factors play a role.
Stop blaming the gun its the people who hold the guns. I was in a 11 year abusive marriage. God took care of him. Jail, prison then his life. In no time did i even think of shooting him for beating me. I got help long road to recovery but God is good. You cant get well in a sick environment.

Creating impossible situations for the public can stimulate the kind of events that ups the news ratings. Particularly during times when your outlets are despised.
The example used is of a couple hooked on meth and everyone already knew their relationship had problems with accepting the other person is a human being with their own desires and wills if most of these out comes are from these kinda relationships not news

Just horrible and senseless. Gun violence will continue until people start to value life. Life is a gift and it's precious to have Life but, people don't think so. You can make more gun laws but, it won't do much good if the person using the gun not thinking rashly about the outcome of their actions. People not thinking about what their doing instead they are running off their emotions and fear being thought of as weak so using a gun becomes their choice of power. For lot people guns makes them feel powerful and in control. Sending out prayers to all this year victims (dead or alive) and their families find hope, peace and strength to deal with their pain and suffering. 😕💔😕🙏 🙏

The blame lies completely with the person. The firearm has little to do with the murder of these people.

@@TWN321 If we keep looking to the tool as the reason for murder in the US we still will not solve the problem. The leading cause of death of black males ages of 16-40 is now homicide in the US. Taking away the guns isn't going to take away the violence. Theres a bigger societal issue at play here.
