I come back to this song year after year.
This may be the greatest midwestern anthem I've ever heard. It speaks in a simple and honest voice, so familiar that it might as well be gospel.
I know this life.
I know this despair.
I've seen these seasons pass.
Especially now they have a new album.
This is quite possibly the best song written this decade. My God, how did these guys get so awesome?
Not
This song is legit one of the WORST I have ever heard. Its almost like a bunch of untalented people made a band
@@charleslascari7191It was quite good! People throw things are like ‘song of the year/decade/etc look at where we are now!
Still winning that argument, a decade and a half later
One of the best damn American rock & roll bands of the past 20 years!
Saw/heard them playing this for the first time on 'telly here in the UK in 2006. Fell in love with them instantly and am seeing them again in a week for their annual trip to London.
There's not a damn thing wrong with straight-ahead rock and roll. And these cats do it better than just about any band alive.
I know it's quite randomly asking but do anybody know of a good site to watch new movies online ?
@Maddox Callum Flixportal =)
@Eliseo Mustafa Thank you, I signed up and it seems to work :D I appreciate it!
@Maddox Callum you are welcome =)
In the UK we had Oasis. I think you had the better deal.
How? How has this song never been NUMBER ONE! in the nation!
@Noah Naylor JFC are you deaf?
Springsteen meets Elvis Costello meets The Smithereens.....Love it
I first heard this in the Hard Rock Cafe in Manchester. It was on one of the TVs behind the bar. My date was chatting away. I turned my head to the tv, listened for the lyrics, Google’s then and found this little gem. For some reason, my date didn’t appreciate this little bit of research 🤣🤣
We heard about on NOR just after Boys and Girls in America came out, then we drove to Chicago to see them at the Metro. That was a top ten music moment, and I’ve been going to concerts since 1968z
The hold steady are good because the songs they write seem to be about themselves. They write songs that seem to be about partying in minneapolis when they were teenagers. They sound like a bunch of suburban dads trying to rekindle thier youth by making a band. Which is why they're so cool.
boys and girls in america is definitely my favorite album of the past year and definitely one of my top favorite albums ever...i really don't understand why they arent more well known either.
The drummer's wearing a Rush - Hemispheres World Tour 1978 t-shirt!!! AWESOME!
A Drummer who likes Neil Peart - who'da thought it? :)
it's so good. I saw them in concert twice. I might see em a third time.
I'd never seen the full version of this video. The higher quality one on RUclips cuts out the bit at the end with the tape, which was fucking hilarious. These guys forever. This song forever.
I will never forget the first time I heard this song, and First Night. It was on Marywood College radio station, 91.7 VMFM. And I'm still not over it.....
It's like. A perfect song.
Saw these guys a week ago in Brooklyn, and I have listened to Stay Positive and Boys and Girls in America about eighteen times each since then. I like this song so much that I get bummed out when it ends. Just awesome.
This song is like what the fuck am I listening too and it's an awe
Wish bands like this were bigger but there’s just not getting themselves out there enough. To many rock bands are content to have music as a ‘career’ instead of wanting to be the biggest bands in the world!!
because they have "enough" and are happy.
Oh man that one summer where I jammed this everywhere I went to in Oklahoma between college terms with some savings to hold me over until I went back to school and plenty of cigs
i love this song....have since day one
“She was a really cool kisser and she wasn’t all that strict of a Christian” - great line
I agree wtf great line
If Randy Newman ever fronted a band it would be THIS.....amazing stuff....
"i don't understand why we can just get these dubbed" CLASSIC!
tis song remind me of my youth i love this song
Hold Steady Forever
Perfection.
love the opening line.
I learned about this song from playing MLB 2K8 on my Wii back home in Seattle. But that was a long time ago and since then I've moved to Minnesota for college. Now I'm on Washington talking to the river. Poetic.
I must apologize. I have not even heard the name of this band before. And they are fucking awesome. Guess I have to catch up quite a bit!
FREAK YEAH!!!🖤🤟🔥
Hiya people, heres to being drunk and exhausted but being critically acclaimed and respected
This song is great and Craig is wonderful.
"Stuck Between Stations" is also a great movie!
hhehehe... the ending makes sense... could you imagine, the old recording methods, oh my... this is one of my favorites on this album :)
Cool songs cool band I want to hang out with these guys. And that other song about the cutters is even better
ahhh love this song.:) amaaazzzziiinnngg.:)
The future of rock and roll
She said "You're pretty good with words, but words won't save your life" - and they didn't, so he died.
Who Googled "John Berryman" after watching this?
I like just the way Craig Finn sings the vocals on everything with the music... is different...
How could you not? I work right on Washington, I can walk across the street and talk to the river.
Very much like a Bruce song. Excellent
WOW! People who really play instruments! Finally!
I love the reference to Jack Kerouac.
Sounds So much like Soul Asylum at the beginning of the song.
I really wish that I had heard this in my early 20s.
Excellent! Big time influenced by The Fall.
mikewofsey, I agree except I find Srpingsteen more of a celebrity than a musician now. Finn is possessed of an epic mind...for real.
Daniel Radcliffe made me come here and it's a good listen ,the music has a vibe
An MLB 2K sports game for the Wii brought me here.
Mlb 2k8🔥🔥🔥
i agree, totally justified... franz is a god among men
kinda like Bruce meets Soul Asylum
Damn, I was just going to post this thinking I had an original idea lol. Good call!
I agree! You can blame it on the music industry! They have lost touch! These guys are Springsteen, Elvis costello & Joe cocker all wrapped up in one!
Return
Absolutuely a great song, I can really connect with it. Also, what a great video it all seems to culminate in something almost better than sex
saw this band at T in the Park and they were majik
The guitar parts sounds like another song and I cannot put my finger on it. Any help? 1:36 - 2:02.
LOL
AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Soul Asylum’s “Black Gold”?
Sounds like a different mix than the album version.
It seems the future is, once again, the past.
Good song though.
Guess what? Still is a good song, in 2019!
this video is the epitome of 2006
On god the black box outside and the vibe to it
Wasn't Mr Finn originally in the replacements?
Dilweed04 no but there is an influence of the replacements on Craig.
Why do I think of Pere Ubu when I watch this?
where are y'all Criminal Minds fans at ?
Ron Placone sent me here
MLB 2k8❤️
Pfft, buck up. You can't change art because of events that happened after it. I went over that bridge shortly before that happened, and I know it could have easily been me in one of those cars, but there's no way that I feel awkward or odd about a lyric.
She was a damn good dancer, but she wasn't that great of a girlfriend 😅
Isn’t this a Bruce Springsteen song over a Tom Petty chord progression?
Elvis costello meets bruce springosteamer
So much of this band output is about drugs. I think it keeps them from being as popular as they should be. I love them though.
The band or the drugs ? 😂
Sounds like Oasis
does not sound worth remembering at all. sorry.
Awful
That singer is far too old to be doing what he is doing
But slays it
gay
i don't like these guys at all. not sure where their appeal is.
does the singer actually play guitar ever or just mime? i've seen them on tv 2 or 3 times, nothing ever seems to come out of his amp.
Horrendous
