    Current job is a parcel shelf cover (I won’t bore you with why) I’m making it out of cf 'cos I like working with it and sometimes it’s the most suitable media. When it’s finished it will be covered in vinyl but it will the right shape, stable and light.

    Yeah that's some close looking to the real 3K weave pattern , but depending on the film companies you can shop around to what comes the closest .Liquid concept did their homework , asking for samples before ordering a batch .

    Considering dipped for instrument panel on boat as real carbon fiber can not be back lit. How does the dipped hold up outdoors ?? All gauge & switch lettering will be laser cut & labels etched.

    The differennce its the weight. Because the shape it doeant matter because you can basicaly use any carbon fibber pattern in the hidro dipping and with a good pollish you cant see the difference only in weight

      Hydrodipping uses pva with carbon fiber design that is liquified once an activator is sprayed. Once you dip the part the print embeds itself into the paint and then you apply a clear coat for protection. It is not a carbon fiber cloth or vinyl.

    Bryan, this video is the most recent I could find. Perhaps you can help me with some information please.
    I have been studying everything I can, from many different sources, concerning hydro graphics. Your videos are very informative and about the only ones I refer to.
    Until I found out about hydro graphics, I really thought I would be consigned to existing on a little over $700 a month from SSI disability.
    I'm 53 and was disabled from an accident three years back resulting in a Traumatic Brain Injury and nerve damage in my neck and back. I can't work like I use to. I have sold all my work tools to try and move forward into hydro graphics. I really believe I can make this happen. It's very trying, although, if it were easy, everyone would do it. To add to the difficulties, the new spray gun like Tekna Prolite I ordered was stolen DURING shipping. LMAO, other than the filing of the claim against FedEx that most likely won't go anywhere, what else could I do but laugh? Oh, don't get me wrong, I was exceedingly pissed.
    I don't have quality equipment, I am trying to work to that. I am using a Porter-Cable, 1.4 tip spray gun loaned to me, for my activator, with poor results. I spent an hour and a half dialing it in where the fan is at approx 5 to 6 inches long with an elliptical consistent shape at a horizontal and vertical spray angle from 6 to 7 inches away from board.
    I am using carbon fiber film from OHW, using k2 super-brew activator on water temp of 87 degrees.
    The first dip, the film only glassed in the center in a soda bottle shape. The next 4 attempts the film would only partially glass. The margin of the film would be hazy even after I resprayed activator on the film again.
    My water level in my tank is about 6 or so inches below the top. My baffle boards cause a box like border around my film. I thought maybe that was causing the inconsistent "glassing" of my film. Only thing is I removed the two end baffles to give a closer spraying only to receive the same partial glassing.
    I have a computer store that wants me to work on several of their computer towers, I just need to get past this.
    I am working with hand crafted equipment, a rock garden "in ground pond" for a tank and alternative tools. Even so, I have always worked. Being on SSI does not have to be definite now. My biggest motivation, aside from getting this started, is building something that I can share and leave to my daughter Anna.
    Thank you for your patience in reviewing my comment/request.

      From reading I would say you either need to drop your gun down closer to the water to spray more activator or do more passes with the gun to get more activator on the film. If the film is not glassing out, then you need more activator. Also on your fan, you want to try to keep it wide open if possible.

      @dozercorbin2694 4 года назад

      @@LiquidConceptsUSA Thanks for your response. I had been messaging on k2forums and was advised to turn my nozzle pressure down to 10psi. The thought was that I was spraying to much pressure and the activator was "bouncing off the water surface" and not getting into contact with the film. Sure enough, I dropped the pressure to 10 psi and in one pass the film glassed out beautiful. My speed curve dip was significantly better. I used an extra computer tower panel to practice my dip on. Turn out horrible. I used OHW white paint, gave double the dry time. Then when I laid out my film, I didn't check my pressure and began spraying, I knew immediately I had a problem because of the "spittle like spray around my fan area. It still glassed and I dipped. I came out with film runny and drooping. AND the OHW paint even was running off the panel!!
      Thanks for your advice. Anything you can think of concerning this new issue? LOL

    On a cloudy day/ indirect light, hydro dipped looks passable on car exteriors, but once that light pings it, it aint got chance against the real thing.
    On interior trim/ panels, because they're so close to you, its too obvious, but I guess its better than typical dull black plastic.
    Although the difference is substantial, in this video, lighting and cameras make the difference l between 2 loll greater than it really is.
    I aint knocking hydro dipping carbon effect. Its just an observation from experience. On my car I have parts that are genuine carbon, hydro dipped and wrapped. For parts with simple geometry wrap is a better option than dipping.
    5D carbon wraps look passable, even in the sun, but to pull off the effect, the wrap is 3-4 times thicker than standard car wrap. Its thickness means it wont conform to intricate parts and when overstretched, it loses the effect. Hydro dipping would be best for these.

      CF weighs less and looks nicer

    • @LiquidConceptsUSA
      @LiquidConceptsUSA  Год назад

      As llon mentioned real carbon fiber weighs less. This method gives you a similar look to real carbon if you do want to spend the money for real carbon or if the pieces you want are not offered in real carbon. It will never be REAL carbon but it is a good option if you fit into one of those options above. This video mainly tries to show you the difference in how real and dipped carbon look.

    • @blanchedlion4681

      @@you5711search for any video about hydrocarbon dipping and you will see what it is. It's a pattern that lays on top of a water bath and the part is dipped in it. The pattern transfers to the part that is dipped.
      Once it dries, it is then sprayed with a clear coat.

    Real CF is far superior to dip. The biggest difference is not in the look but in the price. I have a F******* replica kit car. We’ve calculated the cost of the dipped parts at over £100,000 if they had been genuine F******* parts. The second is the strength of CF. I do make my own CF parts but due to my technical limitations they aren’t complex parts.
