      You will never “completely understand” because you are white. You can care deeply. You can inquire about what it is like. You can be told what it’s like from a million black people but you will only ever understand what they’re experiencing hypothetically. It will never be your life, your history, your family, your fear, or your sorrow. Please try not to claim you “completely understand.”

      Hey Dave, Maybe it's because you are using the term "rioting" rather than rally or rebellion. The trouble-makers who are looting are different (and separate) from the 10s of thousands who are showing unity and rallying peacfully. The violence is being perpetrated by some of the police. That's why we are here. Simply change your language and you'll be perceived more trustworthy. Just a thought.

      @Sweetness 94...that is the real issue...particularly on college campuses. Just being "White" puts us on the defensive...and THEY, including Wh.ite Left.ist's, are insulting. Jordan Peterson confronts them, and he is highly intellectual...and it is costly, emotionally to be honest, against the liberal media, large and small! Thanks.

      It’s because he’s an old white guy with a southern accent. It’s a shame, but that’s life. As a people, most of us just group people we don’t know into groups based on how they look, talk, or act and proceed with their day. It’s a shame, and I hope we as a country can move on from racism and in turn, I hope the world follows.

I know you said this is not the realm in which you work as a financial-advisor, but I think because of your willingness to discuss racism, you probably helped validate concerns your listeners in minority groups have. People who frankly don't hear this enough from their white counterparts. Additionally, while I don't believe you are someone who contributes to ignorance, this might have been the first time a white listener heard racism be discussed outside of the headlines in a thought provoking way. Dave on the other hand is the one person I believe when says he hired his team because of their talent. All you have to do is watch one of his shows. He’s strictly a numbers guy and offers concrete advice based on the numbers ppl provide him. To close this up, Dave has done more for me than any politician or corporation that put out statements of “support”. No. It's the 200+ years of oppression since this country was founded in 1776.
      If it wasn't for all of the civil rights activists for the past 200 years, you would still have slaves picking cotton, not being allowed to read books or obtain a fair education, housing discrimination, schooling discrimination, restuarant discrimination, public transportation discrimination, job discrimination etc. Oppression for over 200+ years doesn't dissapear overnight kiddo.
      Many white folks still own farm land that their great great grandfathers owned and are millionaires due to all of that inheritance which colored folks were not given the opportunity to own.
      I'll agree with you on one thing. There are more opportunities today to become wealthy than ever before in the history of humanity and people from the inner cities need to change their negative culture and outlook on life and make the best of their situations instead of always playing victim.
      In reality, growing out of the inner cities to become wealthy and successful is a lot tougher than having mommy and daddy pay for everything throughout your entire life. That's why universities are always filled with rich white kids and rich foreigners, very few minorities because they don't have 50 thousand dollars and the high schools they went to in the inner cities didn't build them up to succeed.

I've told people well why don't we just put a place to hook someone's handcuffs to the back of a squad car so that someone being detained can't run away. Then people go 'oh that's cruel you're gonna tie someone up' or 'well what if they freak out and it breaks their wrist because they did something' and it just leads to issues. I'd say just handcuff his hands behind his back and then handcuff his ankles so he can't run away and then people will say well what if he rolled out into traffic and got hit by a car then it'd be the cops fault. So what exactly is there for anyone to do? The guy did commit a crime whether you agree it was serious or not doesn't matter if we want laws we have to enforce them all. The issue first is to have others (like the police) to stop killing blacks, stopping for no reason, arresting on trumped up charges, giving jail sentences that do not fit the crime (ex: in Mississippi, they gave a lady life in prison for stealing a pack of cigarettes) but will not arrest or convict policemen who kill for no reason.

    The next step in the evolution of racial equality is to not shut down discussions that may be uncomfortable by claiming them to be motivated by racism. There is racial inequality in this country, but can't just focus on the unequal outcomes, but the reasons for them. These can be uncomfortable conversations because some of those reasons have nothing to do with racism, but with values and priorities like discipline, self-improvement, developing good life habits, self-awareness, prioritizing education, etc, etc. These principles span across race, gender and class. Yes, there is racial inequality and yes, racism does exist, but if you and everyone else can focus on just those things you can control to improve yourself and immediate community, you will find life success and the world will become a little less racist bit by bit.

    • @yazminaqua2383
      @yazminaqua2383 4 года назад +10

      Hi JoseonOne, I hope you’re well. It is definitely an uncomfortable conversation but one which is necessary like you said. I am an accomplished women of African decent and know many black people who are also high achieving. However this still has not mitigated the racial profiling and systemic oppression. Black excellence is something that has been encouraged within our community, having to go the extra mile in several aspects of life simply to be recognised and chosen over our non-black counterparts who may not be more competent. In addition, access to education varies, and in the UK for example, an Oxford graduate with a 1st is less likely to “get the job” and if they do, earn significantly less than a candidate who graduates with a lower ranking score. I’m aware that good grades does not necessarily equate to the fitness for a role, I’m simply highlighting that even when the things we can control are within our control, we are still in a larger system that if full of conscious and unconscious biases which stunt our progress. These are not excuses, but a reality that we are aware of. All the accomplishments in the world will not stop a racially-biased system from taking a reductionist approach - reducing us to the colour of our skin. Many other communities face biases, but it’s essential to always frame this within a historical context and socio-economical barriers.

    • @Alexis-wh2de
      @Alexis-wh2de 4 года назад +3

      @@yazminaqua2383 Well put. May I add: The only thing that will end the bigotry is a greater effort on behalf of everyone to show empathy and compassion. Empathy requires extending care and support to someone whose circumstances you don't understand or relate to. Compassion requires making the choice to suffer with another person and to care about their burden as if it were your own.
      Bigotry requires our reducing the complex humanity of another being to a handful of suppositions. Sadly, because this requires little effort, some find it easier to go down this path. We can have conversations about values, education, et al. But until everyone participating in the conversation abandons the easy path for one of compassion and empathy the conversation will be fruitless. We can't earn or learn our way out of a system that prejudges us; only dismantle it with compassion and empathy.

    Anthony looks so uncomfortable and hurting during this conversation. I love this team and I love Anthony, but I wonder if he wasn't saying something that he wanted to? Granted, this is also a hard and uncomfortable topic anyways. Prayers and peace for anyone needing it right now. 🙏🏻❤️🖤🤍🤎🌈🕊

      I think it's because when he speaks he has pressure on him especially being the only black guy on the panel. Even though he doesn't speak for the whole community, there are many that will be upset if they feel he squandered the opportunity to explain himself well on a huge platform. Also living in America, race is a difficult topic for people of different races to discuss.

      I felt the same way. He looks so uncomfortable and like he’s holding back. He’s in front of his boss who is a white guy and having to speak on something so sensitive.

      I think this was the time for Anthony to LISTEN. He needs to hear how Dave, etc. feels. We don’t need to hear from Anthony because this is personal for him. We should know how he feels. He’s speechless....Now that he has listened, he has insight on how they feel about this uncomfortable subject. Going forward, Dave and his guest are educated, Anthony has educated Dave how it felt to hear him use the work “Red Neck” and now the conversation has opened up a bigger issue. This is what the beginning of change looks like I believe.

    I appreciate the conversation. I hesitated in the first few minutes each time you declared things like "I don't see color" " there's no racism here," and other defensive comments. There's always color and always (unintentional) bias. I hope you continue sharing your stage with leading influencers- maybe more in the black community (not on your payroll). I love all your personalities, but there's a definite filter when you know your boss doesn't 100% understand or agree with you. 😉
    Keep using the platform!
    As I keep listening... Really appreciate John saying "the world needs less of my opinion. I need to listen."

      What most don't realize is that racism is a form of tribalism. Think about it: Our ancestors learned to survive by avoiding that which was unfamiliar and stuck to their own tribes... unfortunately, that translates to modern day racism among other prejudices. It is more ingrained in our DNA than we realize because at one point it helped our species survive.

      Yes I love your comment! Conversations with black leaders not on his payroll would’ve been amazing Anthony was def holding back. I LOVE the way he addressed Dave’s “all lives matter” remark 🙏🏾💕

      Dave got it half right. Racism is the fear of not just the unknown, but also of the other. Racism is oppression of the less enfranchised based on the color of their skin. Sounds like the original constitution.
      I wonder, how many Americans realize our very basic governing document was written specifically to be racist? Which Native people’s were present at drafting, ratification, and signing? Which African Americans were present at drafting, ratification, and signing? How can we treat anything that came from that as legitimate when these “free” populations were given zero representation at our founding? This is actually a bigger problem at the local/state level than federal. Dave obviously doesn’t and can’t have all the answers, but this is a BIG systematic issue that will be painful for all Americans in order to correct it.

    Dave Ramsey is helping me get my finances in order and I'm all the way in Kenya, Africa. I've never once focused on his color, just the profound wisdom that comes from his mind. We need to open our minds.

    I think that is the exact problem!
    When people say: If they hurt my family, if they hate my race, etc
    We need to protect HUMANS period.
    We know what's wrong; we know what's right.
    Let's protect each other!! From groups of people that wants to have humans divided so they can conquer.

      A completely cucked conversation, that's not honest at all. Imagine thinking in 2020 race is just skin deep.
